Time Mag: Obama a 'Prince' Like Jesus Born of 'Imagination, History and Hope'

Photo of Brent Baker.

Warning its readers to “be prepared to gag,” the “Scrapbook” page of this week's Weekly Standard magazine recited “some of the worst over-the-top reactions to The One's ascendance,” starting with Time's Nancy Gibbs who opened this week's cover story by comparing Obama with Jesus: “Some princes are born in palaces. Some are born in mangers. But a few are born in the imagination, out of scraps of history and hope...” In the November 17 issue, she heralded (citing his full name) the greater meaning of Obama's victory:

Barack Hussein Obama did not win because of the color of his skin. Nor did he win in spite of it. He won because at a very dangerous moment in the life of a still young country, more people than have ever spoken before came together to try to save it. And that was a victory all its own.

She gushed over how “an election in one of the world's oldest democracies looked like the kind they hold in brand-new ones, when citizens finally come out and dance, a purple-thumb day, a velvet revolution.”

Gibbs also trumpeted:

He let loose a deep blue wave that washed well past the coasts and the college towns, into the South through Virginia and Florida, the Mountain West with Colorado and New Mexico, into the Ohio Valley and the Midwestern battlegrounds: you could almost walk from Maine to Minnesota without getting your feet wet in a red state. After months of mapmaking all the roads to 270, Obama tore right past with ease. The victory poured down the ballot, bringing along a larger Democratic majority in both houses...

Online, the story is headlined “How Obama Rewrote the Book.” The actual November 17 edition of the magazine doesn't have that headline and instead just has an Obama quote by a big smiling photo of him from election night: “This Is Our Time.”

Her entire lead paragraph:

Some princes are born in palaces. Some are born in mangers. But a few are born in the imagination, out of scraps of history and hope. Barack Obama never talks about how people see him: I'm not the one making history, he said every chance he got. You are. Yet as he looked out Tuesday night through the bulletproof glass, in a park named for a Civil War general, he had to see the truth on people's faces. We are the ones we've been waiting for, he liked to say, but people were waiting for him, waiting for someone to finish what a King began.

Back in 2003, Gibbs asked Hillary Clinton: “Is the 'vast, right-wing conspiracy' bigger than you thought?” The June 9, 2003 MRC CyberAlert recounted:

An actual question from Time magazine's Nancy Gibbs to Hillary Clinton in an interview for this week's issue which accompanies the magazine's cover story excerpt of her new book: “Is the 'vast, right-wing conspiracy' bigger than you thought when you brought that term into our vocabulary?”

So much for any notion that maybe the VRWC doesn't exist or that Hillary might owe an apology to those she smeared with the charge when the Lewinsky story turned out to be true.

But that wasn't the only question from Gibbs which presumed conservatives were in the wrong. Gibbs wondered: “In the book you have a lot to say about forgiveness. Have you forgiven Ken Starr?”

And before asking about letting a President run for a third term and if she plans to make a presidential run, Gibbs queried: “Would you call Bush a radical?”

The second entry in the November 17 Weekly Standard's “The Courtier Chronicles” (registered users) came from former New York Times reporter E.J. Dionne Jr. in his Washington Post column the day after the election:

Yes, it is time to hope again.

Time to hope that the era of racial backlash and wedge politics is over. Time to imagine that the patriotism of dissenters will no longer be questioned and that the world will no longer be divided between 'values voters' and those with no moral compass. Time to expect that an ideological label will no longer be enough to disqualify a politician.

Above all, it is time to celebrate the country's wholehearted embrace of democracy, reflected in the intense engagement of Americans in this campaign and the outpouring to the polls all over the nation. For years, we have spoken of bringing free elections to the rest of the world even as we cynically mocked our own ways of conducting politics. Yesterday, we chose to practice what we have been preaching....

The more and more blasphemous they get, the easier it will be for conservatives to win seats in the next elections.  Vomit-inducing as it is, just remember that all these Obama worshippers are crapping in their own drinking water.

It will end badly for them.  I hope the old media goes bankrupt before the government has a chance to write the bailout check for them, too.

What do you know?

It turns out that our supposedly atheistic media are really religious nuts...

Yes...they found religion

Yes...they found religion in the Obama Cult.

And for those who have railed against christians because they were "offended", they are oblivious when they offend in a like manner.

According to CNN, 121,068,715 people voted four years ago. This year, 123,894,846 voted, an increase of 2,826,131. However, this year there's about 12 million more people in the US. (293,655,404 in 2004, 305,627,178 now.) The actual percentage is impossible to determine since the census isn't exact to either election day, but it's close enough. All things considered, the vote percentage is probably less this year than 2004.

Again, Obama won in a year when the odds have never been stacked against Republicans so badly. And yet, fewer people voted in the general election.

The numbers aren't there. The explosion of liberal worship has no basis. They think he's the messiah, but where are the miracles?

Wait until Americans find out that Obama just got four years of protection and can't be voted off the island.

Does this idea of a political civil service organization built around youth involvement not sound like the Red Guard to anyone but me?

And the Hitler Youth.

Wolfrem

I don't think so because the Fascist supported the industrialist that supported the state. This is Marxism - the distruction of capitalism in the name of a select group of people's idea of fairness.
The Red Guard were youth that took from the capital class to give to those they deemed more worthy. Sometimes it was the less fortunate but usually it was to the treasury for use by the state for personal or political reasons.

You're right, Agnostic, I

You're right, Agnostic, I agree.  Regardless of the ideology, however, I was merely pointing out the similarity of the establishment of both groups.

Wolfrem, my apologies

My apologies, I did realize your point but have recently been listening and reading about many arguments that compare Capitalism to Fascism. It has recently become important to me that the differences between the various idealogies remain clear. Conservatives have been repeatedly attacked as Fascist for their support of responsible Nationalism and the support of entrepreneurship. The use of this attack has kept many on the defensive when they should have been attacking the failed idea of socialism.

Jesus can forget about His second return. Obama is our saviour now according to the press. He can do no wrong.

  Amazing.  Simply

Amazing.  Simply amazing.  These obama worshipers don't even talk like mature adults.  I wouldn't even say things like that about Reagan and he would think we were daffy to do so.

So I'm guess that you

So I'm guess that you haven't yet seen Jon Meacham's claim that Obama is Reaganesque????

This is absurd

We've officially reached a new low and I think it's going to get worse.

She's right about one thing: he is born of imagination, mostly his and their own.

I can never recall a weaker resume or background of a presidential candidate getting less scrutiny than this President-elect's.  Yet, when Sarah Palin was nominated, reporters were salivating and jumping on the first plane to Alaska.

But to compare this man to Jesus is insulting.  He sat in a "church" where the Lord was blasphemed by his own pastor and has the audicity to call himself a follower of Christ.  If a conservative candidate who was a devout Christian heard those sermons, the MSM would  have run those clips night and day.

If racial backlash is over, then let us end affirmative action.  It's time to move past hiring quotas.

It's truly astonishing the blatant hypocrisy of the press, but I am not truly surprised.  Hopefully in two or four years,  the public will realize that it made the wrong "change" and vote once again to restore true hope to this great nation and not just someone who came from absolutely nowhere.

Tom

Not just insulting, but

Not just insulting, but sacrilegious.

Bumper sticker

Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw on the way home last night,  'Jesus was a liberal Jew'.

I googled this sticker saying and apparently it has been around awhile, nothing new. But I was astounded and this topic sure fit in with that crap.

Wot a barrel of cow paddies.

  Wow that saying is 180

Wow that saying is 180 degrees out of sync.  Actually Jesus is more comparable to Conservatives.  If Jesus were to paraphrase Reagan he would have put it:  "The Temple is not the solution to our problem, the Temple is the problem".

Veteran's Day 2008

History will record that the American Soldier and those American Soldiers who have fallen, rank in the greatest humans who have ever lived on this planet.

The American Soldier have freed millions in bondage and defended the freedom of America with willingness of the ultimate sacrifice.

The Fallen American Soldier is someone who walked the hero's path. Someone who walked into the heart of darkness for Duty, Honor and Country.

The American Soldier waits for the day that they have lived for and trained for their entire life - to defend until death, their families and America, its citizens and freedom.

The American soldier is the fiercest Warrior ever in history, because their mission is the defense of family, neighbors, America and freedom.

The families of the American Soldier, while their faces beamed with pride, their hearts were filled with anxiety and tears as they watched their American Soldier leave to defend them and this Great Country.

Families and neighbors look with horror as the military vehicle stops in front of the home of the American Soldier, to inform them of the ultimate sacrifice of their hero.

No honor can be too great; every tribute is too small for the Fallen American Soldier and their families.

God Bless the American Soldier and their families on this Veteran's Day!

RG

Very nice sentiment, I agree completely.

What a sop.

Anyone have an extra drool bucket?

Just a Bunch of CRAP!

Barack Obama has done nothing special!  He has been annointed a Saint for doing nothing but race-baiting and riding Affirmative Action his whole life!

These vile creatures called Democrats have turned the words of JFK and MLK on their heads by electing this Empty Black Suit!

JFK: "Ask not what your Country can do for your, ask what you can do for your Country!"

BHO: "I want your vote, what can your country do for you?"

MLK: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a
nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of
their character
.

BHO: "Pick me because of my Color, not based on my Character!"

Trust me, We will rue the day this Empty Black Suit became the "Chosen One".

The bigger they are, the harder they fall

Yep they sure have.

Funny enough, I can't remember if it was on this board or another; but Obama after his first press conference had this "OH CRAP" look after they did the security briefing. He even dismissed a simple "yes/no" question if he was going to raise taxes! Bad deal, Obama.

Clinton lied about taxes, I don't think Obama has the collateral or the glibness of a first-time pass that Clinton had, plus an economy boom.

Due to the interia of the American system, I don't think he'll be able to pull off a totaliatrian rule like Stalin or Hitler. Oh, I'm sure he'll try and it's our job as voters to get on his butt for EVERY LITTLE THING AND MORE like they did Bush--only we have the facts on our side.

Due to political expediency and the current nature they either will be so arrogant as to run their socialist policies and piss people off, rip themselves apart as soon as the honeymoon period is over(Trotsky and Stalin, and remember Barack and Michelle are both black and Pelosi, Ried, and Schumer are white and the last two are men--inject that with militant feminism and black separatism and it's UGLY), and/or be forced to govern from the center. I heard he's scaling back his promises of closing Gitmo as well as leaving Iraq.

I'm sure things will get hairy as the ugliness and hypocrisy of black racism comes to the media attention and really piss off John the Voter and the media will only cover so much for him before they look at their own whorish natures and go with public sentiment.

We have our guns still. The sales of guns increased by quite a lot after his election. Also, I spoke to a soldier and their obligation is to the Constitution and protecting America first--they will only put up with so much and even though he's their Commander in Chief and are not obligated to do anything unlawful at all according to their code. They won't stand for it. Sure, some may be deployed but Obama will have to or yet violate their code and they are under no obligation to follow him if he does.

Be ever vigilant and informative, guys. It's all what we can do. Don't let Obama get away with anything.

He will then be exposed as an incompetent leader and it's his and his party's own doing.

“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.” ~ Winston Churchill

Barack Hussein Obama did

Barack Hussein Obama did not win because of the color of his skin. Nor did he win in spite of it.

First of all, I think if everyone (including the liberal media) were honest, we would admit that Obama did indeed win because of his skin color.  (If he had been a white guy, Hillary would be pres. elect right now.)

He won because at a very dangerous moment in the life of a still young country, more people than have ever spoken before came together to try to save it. And that was a victory all its own.

This theory was debunked by KC Mulville in above post, but also I would add that the African American turnout was heavy due to a very clever grassroots campaign by the Obama people (and Acorn).  Are there any stats on the African Am. turnout compared to "04?  I would be eager to hear those statistics.

Not really as complicated as that. Black turnout was heavier because they had a black democrat candidate to vote for. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Are there any
stats on the African Am. turnout compared to "04?  I would be eager to
hear those statistics."

Yes. There was a 1% increase over 2004, 14% vs 13%, or 13% vs 12%, one of the two, but don't remember which.  Of those that voted, Obama received 97% of the vote; in 2004, Kerry received about 86% I think.

Thanks to Obama

Thanks to Obama, record number of African-Americans turned out to vote in California -- Prop 8 (Amendment define marriage) passed.

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.

Barack Obama is a Human

Barack Obama and his followers and worshipers exemplify the old adage:

"The less you know and understand the more things seem plausible".

When we humans are faced with overwhelming problems as Barack Obama is facing, at best we humans will turn to our basic beliefs, basic values and understanding.

Obama was mentored in his formative teen age years, by Frank Marshall Davis an avowed Communist and member of Communist Party USA.

Obama said he chose his friends carefully "Marxist Professors".

Obama has spent most of his adult life in a circle of Marxist and radical friends who hate America.

Many hope that Obama will change himself and NOT go in the direction that he has spent his life learning and associating with.

That is possible but certainly not normal human behavior.

Only an act of God keeps anyone from not following the life, thoughts and direction that they have already chosen or are familiar with.

Barack Obama is a human even though many of his followers believe he is the Messiah.

Obama fawning

Hopefully EJ will be there" when the patriotism of dissenters will no longer be questioned" when the Fairness Doctrine vote comes up. You think he will? What exactly, is the"moral compass" of a Marxist?  100million plus dead in the 20th century provides some proof, doesn't it? I  guess Obama is a "savior" to those who can't think beyond the manufactured image making of Axelrod and Lakoff.
