As he stood with cheering students, Osunsami told anchor Charlie Gibson:
Charlie, I've watched a number of students here call their parents, call their fathers, their brothers and sisters. I received a text from a friend of mine who said black Americans everywhere should thank the country.
From a personal note, as a kid, I grew up in a neighborhood that was mostly black and my father used to tell us that there's no way this country would elect a black President. Well, this evening, the country has proved my old man wrong -- and we're the better for it.

November 5, 2008 - 00:59 ET by bmovies"The election of a black president is all this election has ever been about for most "liberals"."
It reminds me of the election of the first black Mayor for New York City, Mayor David Dinkins. In the last years of the Ed Koch administration, racial tensions were at an all time high. The liberal voters thought that if they elected a black mayor, racial harmony would result. Of course, under Dinkins, racial tensions went up even higher. The racial arsonists in the city were given free reign to do as they pleased and Dinkins handcuffed the police, ordering them to do nothing.
The voters threw Dinkins out after only one term, replacing him with Rudy Giuliani
Can they finally stop
November 5, 2008 - 02:42 ET by bpjamCan they finally stop acting like they living in some other country now? Can they start paying taxes and get jobs? Can you stop whining about 'whitey' and 'the man' and stop calling anyone a racist who points out who much violence there is in inner city schools or how much more likely black men are to be killed by other black men?
You got your Messiah. Because he was black. Not experienced, not because of some agenda, because he was black. Now you can just shut the F up about all this racism because it was all in your head in the first place. Retards all over the country wanted their feel good moment and they voted for the guy who made up his resume.
If we are going to have to pay higher taxes and have a massive increase in the size of government, at least we can get their ridiculous racist boogeyman off our backs once and for all. If you get arrested for a crime, it's probably because YOU COMMITTED A CRIME and not because you are black.
They will still blame
November 5, 2008 - 09:41 ET by mattmThey will still blame Whitey. If they were not wired this way, they never would have voted for the Punk.

November 5, 2008 - 23:56 ET by soulpileObviously this reporter blames a certain set of the population- not his father, though!
What kind of father tells his child they can't do anything because of how they look? Way to further race relations, there! To take it one step further, guess who really furthered relations? Obama's white grandparents. Obviously, they never told him he couldn't become president.
It's about race.
November 5, 2008 - 00:55 ET by attorneygirlIt's always been about race.
Now we'll all be in slavery--to a dictatorship.
I cannot now say God Bless America. Not with a Marxist as President. Not with idiots, morons, and sycophants praying to their savior Obama. He is a racist. He has pitted classes against each other.
I will now raise my rates, stop giving to charity, and will not tip any longer. I will fire employees, stop paying benefits, and stop giving my household help Christmas bonuses.
Let the government do it for me.
Bah Humbug.
I'm pulling in and becoming scrooge because the government will be taking my money. Assholes. Now everyone will see what Obama-economics really is.
And I worked my ass off to start my own business. I ate tuna (still do) and still drive an old car so that I can save money for my old age.
Screw that, right?
I will never, ever support a Democrat, a liberal, or this pseudo-president Marxist Obama.
Never.
We have experienced a coup today. And Communism won.
I will now become more self-centered than ever before.

You can be sure that I'm
November 5, 2008 - 02:51 ET by bpjamYou can be sure that I'm not going out of my way to give away anything I don't have to in the near future. I'll be looking to deduct away every possible taxable dollar and I'll cutting back on charities, restaurants and for sure I'm not putting any more money at risk to start any more ventures which would require employees. Hell no.
I'm going to hunker down and try to wait out the Obama recession (don't kid yourself, he has been in charge of the US Senate for the last 11 months). And if anybody asks me for money, I'll tell them to go ask Obama since he has all my extra change.
Which industry should I be looking to get into in the next four years? Name one which should be successful under an Obama regime? (Other than government employment). I'm looking - since the US Senate outlawed by last industry. But I don't see where the growth is going to be coming from outside of the union mob/government. Even the 'alternative energy' is mostly a boondoggle like corn ethanol and too whimsical to build a career around.
Maybe you know what will be going up in a world turned marxist?

Mitt Romney anyone? He will be great in an economic crisis then, which we're bound to be in, since Obama will raise taxes, thereby eliminating jobs. Not that he understood that.
America has forgotten about its troops, 9/11, universal health care, abortion, gun control and a myriad of other issues. God help us.

America is better off
November 5, 2008 - 01:06 ET by GregEYes, America is better off because Obama won, because (and I'm being serious), had he lost we'd be looking at riots in places all across the United States due to the perceived "injustice."
Rodney King outcome, OJ verdict cheered by many, Michael Jackson verdict cheered by many. Had there been the Obama loss "injustice" to absolutely dwarf all of these, America would be a very ugly place right now and for the next many days and who knows how long due to many many people who would literally be unable to control themselves, and the mainstream media would have fed it. I can't even imagine such a situation, yet I believe it would have been.
Plain and simple, and I stand by that.
small potatoes

The riots would have been a very small price to pay in comparison with what Obama and the congressional democrats are going to do to us now.
Sure I understand what
November 5, 2008 - 01:11 ET by GregESure I understand what you're saying. I was just making the point. It could never be proven and always denied by those who would want to deny it, but I'll always believe, unfortunately, that people going absolutely bonkers is what would have occurred. And it would have been clearly a racial divide, just as those 3 examples were that I mentioned.
The MSM are happy tonight,
November 5, 2008 - 01:06 ET by d1carterThe MSM are happy tonight, but I do believe this was the year that "journalism" died. I know that I will not watch "big media" again. The American people deserve better.
So many people get their
November 5, 2008 - 01:16 ET by GregESo many people get their queues from the big media. How it can die, I don't know. I know what you're saying, but I don't really know how the big media can ever be coralled into again being anything near objective. America will suffer for it.
And after Obama's speech tonight and his talking about coming together for common causes, and seeing the absolute worshippers at his feet in Chicago, now I see the Fairness Doctrine as more of a possibility than ever, because the conservative voice will be advertised as a divisive voice, moreso than ever, and the Fairness Doctrine promoted as a way to prevent such divisiveness that is keeping us from coming together. (or so they will say). Be very afraid. Free speech could be trumped in order to make sure that "coming together" isn't interfered with.
New theme
November 5, 2008 - 01:13 ET by misterbillSung to the tune "Maria" from West Side Story
The most beautiful sound I ever heard:
Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama . . .
All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word . .
Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama . . .
Obama!
I've just elected a man named Obama,
I'll never pay for gas,
mortgages are in the past
And suddenly that name
Will never be the same
To me.
Obama!
I've just picked a guy named Obama,
And suddenly I've found
How wonderful a sound
Can be!
Obama!
Say it loud and spread the wealth,
Say it soft and it's free care for health.
Say you stand with the Democratic donkey,
Now we'll put it to the honky,
I haven't lost my way,
All the others will have to pay
Obama,
I'll never stop saying Obama!
The most beautiful sound I ever heard.
Obama..........
Maybe...

November 5, 2008 - 01:32 ET by iveseenitallEveryone in America soon will be choking---on taxes, on job losses, on another 9-11, on loss of basic rights , on affirmative action, on the "fairness" doctrine, on an Isreal-Arab war, on defeat in Iraq, on inflation, on another Depression and more.. You asked for it America--now you've got it.

November 5, 2008 - 04:55 ET by Mystapitt...but Dinkins won 2 terms even defeating Rudy once. Things may need to get worse before they get better. However, I wish him success. I hope he suprises us and keeps us safe.
Mystapitt
November 5, 2008 - 06:23 ET by easygoerDinkins was a one term mayor 1990-94. He beat Rudy in 1989. Things were so bad four years later, he lost the rematch in 1993. Bottom line: Dinkins was a complete disaster. He loved his tennis, though.

Not a big deal
November 5, 2008 - 08:06 ET by KillgraveI don't fault the guy for choking up. It's an emotional moment. And I don't begrudge black people for getting excited about this event, even though, frankly, it's an illusion. Bambi is half-white, was raised white, and the brown in him is mostly Arabic (slave-traders, not slaves).
So I think we should give people expressing positive feelings a pass. It's the idiots who are gloating, who are "sore winners", that we should give the horns.
agree - People connected with Obama on an emotional level
November 5, 2008 - 08:41 ET by mom_roxI see this as the Jackie Robinson moment of the U.S. executive branch. As much as people voted for Obama because of his race, I can only HOPE that in the future, people will be more color-blind.
It will be interesting to see how the MSM reports any Obama criticism. Obviously they have a stake in Obama's success. Will they allow a dialogue on any criticisms or simply 'attack the messenger' as being racist?
The Axis of Taxes: Obama, Pelosi and Reid (source unknown)
Why, that can't be right, can it?
November 5, 2008 - 09:16 ET by gordonIts not about race, its never been about race.
What total baloney. It has been about race from the day Obama announced his intention to run for President. Anyone who thinks differently is either an idiot or completely deluded. To those people who think that in four years this will all be just a bad dream, I will remind you of something. Every time a majority of people in a Democracy realize that they can vote themselves money, that country is finished. In four years, there will be more of those people than there are right now. This will only get worse. Eventually, liberals run out of other people's money to spend. When that happens, there will be a reckoning the likes of which this country has not seen since the Civil War.
Not a problem
November 5, 2008 - 10:43 ET by Meredith1966I don't mind Steve Osunsami or Juan Williams getting emotional about Senator Obama's election to the presidency. I saw Juan's reaction, and I understood it. I saw Jesse Jackson with tears rolling down his cheeks; as much as I can't stand ol' Jesse, I felt good for him and for people like him (John Lewis, Andrew Young, others) who were the foot soldiers of the civil rights movement all those years ago, who put up with being jailed for wanting to eat lunch at the same counter or drink from the same water fountain as white people. Good for them, good all black people in America, and good for all of us as Americans that men and women of Jackson's generation and older lived to see a black person elected President of the United States.
Having said all that, I think the obvious lesson of Obama's election is that the civil rights movement as espoused by Jackson and others is now complete. We should now fully be a nation where laws are color-blind; we are, all of us, equal in the eyes of the law. To my feeble mind, that means no more Affirmative Action set-asides in contracting or school admissions, no more desegregation orders, no more hate crime laws, no more reliance on the crutch of racism to explain or justify your plight in life. We are, all of us, responsible for our actions as individuals--that's what Obama's election means to me.
YOU ALL MAKE ME SICK

Understandable emotions...
November 5, 2008 - 20:04 ET by RR GOPBut don't folks seem to ignore the fact that the vast majority of the people that voted for Dear Leader where not African-American?
Amazing how such things always come down to a personal level, the hell with the country and common sense. The guy lives in a mansion and wants nothing to do with them beyond their vote. Sure, having a minority president is good and American, but voting for a guy just because he's black is backwards and racist.
Does this mean white folks should get a tingle up their leg if a white man is once again elected president of Zimbabwe or South Africa?
One of the 24% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 89% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.
