MSNBC: Obama-Biden 'a Very Powerful Combination'

MSNBC went live shortly before 1 AM EDT, with David Shuster anchoring, to announce that Senator Joe Biden is Barack Obama's pick for Vice President, and Shuster was joined via phone over the next hour by NBC News political director Chuck Todd, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and Howard Fineman of Newsweek. One word I didn't hear in that hour or the next as MSNBC remained live until 3 AM (CNN and FNC went to re-runs at 2 AM): liberal. In MSNBC's 2 AM hour, Joan Walsh of Salon.com touted Biden as a “working class hero.”

Olbermann hailed the “very powerful combination” of Obama and Biden based on joining Obama's “vision” of restoring America's image in the world and Biden's selfless “fervor to do good” enabled by his “18,000 good ideas” to achieve Obama's noble goal.

At about 1:35 AM EDT Friday night/Saturday morning, Olbermann proposed:

The international experience comes from a fervor to do good and to come to a consensus and present America's best foot forward. I can't imagine that there's any, that there's any wedge on this subject that can be driven between these two men because the one is saying “I have a vision of what I want to have America look like internationally” and how he can restore the envy that we used to have, the positive envy we used to have. And the other man is saying, “listen, you want to do that, I've got 18,000 good ideas. Here's where they might fit in and you're welcome to all of them. All I want to do is see it happen.” That's a very powerful combination. If you've got a Vice President who looks like he can do something and doesn't want anything more than to see it done, that seems to be a pretty good starting point.

Went to Wal-Mart at 1 AM to

Went to Wal-Mart at 1 AM to get a gallon of milk and saw this plastered across the still-lit TV screen inside the closed bank from the cashier line while I was paying. The channel was actually CNN, but in big letters at the bottom of the screen were the words "OBAMA PICKS BIDEN" accompanied with enthusiastic-looking reporters talking with one another.

I hope Newsbusters is recording the duration (in minutes, hours, etc.) and tone of the coverage of this so they can compare it to the tone and amount of coverage that McCain receives when he announces his running mate pick.

"My morality is your morality."

...and pigs fly, Keithamphetimine!

MSNBC must be isolated from the rest of the world. A cone of silence is surely placed around Olbermann's brain and Shuster's (insert vulgar naughty bit here). They are the only ones happy about Odumba's pick for VP.

Drill ANWAR

AP not happy with Biden

They are the only ones happy about Odumba's pick for VP.

The AP sure isn't sharing much happiness.

So if someone agrees that

So if someone agrees that life begins at conception, then votes to allow that life to be taken, doesn't that make them a self-professed murderer?

The JOE-BAMA

The JOE-BAMA Ticket!

McCain landslide?

More like: The Obama-Biden

More like: The Obama-Biden Laden ticket.

This is the same Biden who

This is the same Biden who said Obama wasn't experienced enough to be President, right?  The same one who voted FOR the war in Iraq?

Nice work, Barry.

OK, this is seriously freaky!

OK, this is seriously freaky!

I tried to do a Google search on "Biden: Obama not ready"

Here is the page that came up.

But every one of the links I clicked on came up empty!

Someone else please try....I am beginning to think I either have a serious case of Nanites, or there is a conspiracy here!

Mb,

I just tried the first two, and they opened fine for me. Of course, many of them are "Obama (not) ready" to pick running mate, or "Obama picks Biden" and stuff of that ilk.

You're right: the first one

You're right: the first one goes to a bunch of new links about Obama picking Biden.

The next 3 go

HERE HERE and HERE

Maybe one of the NB staff could investigate this?

When you are a left-wing

When you are a left-wing nut like Olbermann on a left-wing network like MSNBC and the majority of your viewers are left of center you are expected to make bias comments such as: ”and how he can restore the envy that we used to have, the positive envy we used to have.”

I’m hoping that John McCain sheds the maverick side of his personality if only to choose Mitt Romney, who I believe is the best choice as his running mate.
---------------------------------------------------------

"If the Republicans can subtly portray Obama as an affirmative-action nominee, McCain could well be our next President.” ~ Jeremy Mayer, NY Daily News

KOS-NBC

Rush Fan,

You are right about BathTubBoy & MSNBC being biased to the extreme lefties in this country. They would say Obama/Stalin would be a winning ticket as well. I will say any ticket without Hillary is stupid, but he'll pick some other schuck, & IF McCain does'nt goof up his VP pick, he should we able to thump the Chicago activist who can't produce a valid birth certificate.

"...it's still We The People, Right?"  Megadeth

Richardson rejected for VP because of name?

Apparently Bill Richardson was going to be the choice!

But Obama's arty-farty Design Team rejected him because his surname is ten letters long, and OBAMA/RICHARDSON wouldn't haven't fitted well on a bumper sticker.

So it came down to Biden and Kaine for one very simple reason. The number of letters in their names: FIVE.

The shortest first name was going to be the decider but then they realized that both Tim and Joe are THREE letters, and Joseph and Timothy are both SIX.

So in the end Obama said screw it and tossed a coin. Biden won.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

Geez, Jackson, I didn't

Geez, Jackson, I didn't know picking your VP was so scientific!

How many letters in douche?

Obama is so far above us,

Obama is so far above us, he thinks of everything. Numerology, astrology, and other words ending with ology.

Though OBAMA/DOUCHE08 does have a certain ring.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

Scatology

Don't forget Scatology.

Are we allowed to make fun

Are we allowed to make fun of Biden?

Did I mention he's got an ordinary name and he's white?

Or is that Racism By Proxy, whereby an attack on Biden is the same as an attack on Obama because he's black?

Things Biden and Obama share:

#1. They both have white grandmothers.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

As well as they both are:

As well as they both are: ARE TICK U LIT.. AND CLEAN. (I think)

USA -- and haven't they both plagiarized speeches by other politicians?

Biden -- Neil Kinnock

Obama - Devall Patrick

So now we have three things they share!

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

We have these idiots to run

We have these idiots to run against and here we have Mc Cain...ugh..

Yes! It's Biden! GOP Triumph Guaranteed!

Obama could not have picked a better candidate to lose with than Joe Biden.

Let's start a countdown: How many days till Joe insults a minority demographic?

I say 21.

Biden's been ordered to

Biden's been ordered to report for surgery Monday morning to have his mouth fitted with a 5-second delay and a remote shut-off implant.

But, motherbelt, will that

But, motherbelt, will that have some negative reaction to his doll hair implants? :-)

It's been interesting to see Shelly O out of the spotlight for so long, but how can Barry keep a media whore so in love with his own voice like Biden out for any amount of time?

Obama-Biden Laden 'a Very

Wasn't it the brilliant foreign policy expert Joe Biden

who wanted to divide Iraq into 3 countries not long ago?  This harebrained scheme would have created a true catastrophe as the US tried to mediate internal borders amongst the three major groups.

Obama bin Biden...Osama bin Laden...heh heh

Obama bin Biden...Osama bin Laden...heh heh...it's all yours.

The answer to terrorism IS war. Next Please!

So, in the end, Obama

So, in the end, Obama picked the guy who's been around the longest.

So much for "change."

Oh. my. God. The two of them won't be able to fit their heads in the same room.

Well, I've said before, Biden will be worth it, just for the entertainment value.

Oh, and watch for Biden's "shoot from the lip" style to be renamed "refreshing candor."

If he's smart, he'll just shut up and let Olbermann just keep putting words in his mouth.

Here's that word again

I heard a pundit on Gretha say that Biden brought "gravitas" to the ticket. To me that is saying that Obama doesn't have it. I am so sick of that word I could scream. To me Obama is gravy toss.

"Refeshing candor?" Did that come from Matthews of Olberman?

If pro is the opposite of con what is the opposite of progress? Congress!

Refreshing Candor

Biden is the king of Monday Morning Quarterbacking. He switched positions on Iraq ONLY after the fact and then tried to claim that he was always for that position - that he thought of it before anyone else (and everyone that dsagreed with him was dumb).

NB should track his statememts on the Iraq War, what he said, how he stated it, and when he made them - partcularly on issues like the surge or that we will need to divide Iraq in 3 because the civil war cannot be won.

Gat, check out OntheIssues.

Joe Biden on the Issues

Some examples from the section - Joe Biden on War & Peace:

Partitioning Iraq is inevitable, as shown by history. (Apr 2007)

US worse off than before Saddam because US lost credibility. (Apr 2007)

Start to draw down troops immediately and all out by '08. (Jun 2007)

We can't just pull out; one year to remove 160,000 troops. (Jul 2007)

Leaving Iraq will cause generation-long regional war. (Aug 2007)

Changed mind on Iraq pullout, not about political solution. (Sep 2007)

Patraeus report is wrong strategy; draw down troops now. (Sep 2007)

Accept NIE conclusion that Iran stopped nukes in 2003. (Dec 2007)

Perfect

This needs to find its way into commercials to run during the Dem Convention.

The guy has an obnoxious habit of treating people like village idiots when they do not agree with him even though he held the same view 5 minutes ago. Conversely he should be treated like a village idiot for holding the views you listed.

This guy is just plain

This guy is just plain obnoxious! If Obama wanted to usher in "a new kind of politics" this ain't the way to do it!

If Obama thinks people saw him as arrogant before, wait until they get a hefty dose of him AND Biden. It will be the "arrogance squared" ticket!

Also, notice how this was a "brilliant move" by Obama, to shore up his weak points, but George Bush was just showing how pathetic he was by picking a strong VP candidate.

BTW....Biden is only 5 years younger than McCain.

I agree MB - Biden is one of THE most obnoxious politicians

when the media were predicting him, I thought they had to be wrong. This shows how completely bogus Obama's claim of "Change" is. I can't believe how nasty Biden was to Roberts and Alito.

I didn't know that he was only 5 years younger than McCain. That's great because it will take the age thing off the table.

He fits

right in with Obama then. Barak's comments about "ignorant people" who don't know that inflating your tires fully gives better gas mileage, "angry people" clutching bibles and guns etc.....

This should be like watching a ping pong match to see who scores the most inane remarks. They both act like they have all the answers all of the time. I know that it takes a huge Ego to drive a potential presidential candidate, but really.......

What I especially liked in

the most recent McCain ad was the arrogant, head held high, nose in the air, smug look on the face of Barack Obama when Biden said in the Democrat debate that he stood by his earlier statement that BO wasn't fit to be president!  They should run that one every hour on the hour!

I guess this goes to show you that vetting a vice president requires more than a former president's daughter or a former Justice Dept. staff who made such an illustrious decision as to send Elian Gonsales back to Cuba!

What a disaster...and I couldn't be happier!  Can't wait to hear Rush on Monday!!

CC... What a

Btw, thanks for the post you left at my Shy forum :)

Yeah, don't you know? O-Force One is too "nuanced" to be full of "gravitas".

But he "hope"s to "change" his ticket with the Biden VP pick.

There's four words right there that you, I, and I think much of the country are sick of to the point of screaming.

For REAL Change

MB, this should be fun to watch...

MB, this should be fun to watch. Biden can't and won't keep his mouth shut --so much the better. It's just a shame that we have come to this.

Is it possible that Obama

Is it possible that Obama held off the announcement until late Friday night so that the Sunday talk shows will be all about this instead of THIS ?

Mother

You maybe right. I thought about there being no Rush, Sean, Boortz or other conservative talk shows on to give their opinions. Who is going to report on the Obama/Acorn connection except maybe Fox and the talking heads on the radio. Sure not going to hear it from the MSM.

Just thought of something else. The U of IL is going to release the papers of the Annenberg Challenge-the Obama-Ayers stuff. Most of the media is already in Denver or going there so who is going to start going through this stuff?

If pro is the opposite of con what is the opposite of progress? Congress!

thanks for the link, mb

Sometimes I wonder if our country can survive the total corruption that IS the DEMOCRAT Party!

I will bet my last nickel there will be NO mention of the ILLEGAL activities of the Obama campaign and ACORN / CSI whatever!

Hillary

What is important to know is that Hillary's camp made sure to say that she was not even vetted for VP, which means "no votes for you" Obama from Hillary's most ardent supporters.

Obama............

.....could have picked the tooth fairy as a running mate, and the msm would still declare it a "very powerful combination."

Biden voted to authorize the Iraq war, oops.

Dumb and Dumber

Sure makes for an easy slogan doesn't it?

Love that Biden is on tape affirming his statement that Barack isn't ready to be President!

Now we've got the ticket that can and will be beaten in November!

Hey Obama! We don't need your stinkin CHANGE!

Chas

Shouldn't it be Dumber and Dumb? I think Obama is dumber than a hack saw blade. Biden is only dumb as a rock.

If pro is the opposite of con what is the opposite of progress? Congress!

Dumber and Dumbest!

Either way you play it, the Democrats have picked the TWO Dumbest Liberals they could possibly run for P & VP.

good thing is Biden has a long track record of stupid comments and consistently being on the WRONG side of an important issue!

If the MSM would do their damn job and assess these two FAIRLY, there wouldn't be a snowball's chance in HELL that these bozo's would get elected!

But of course, that's not going to happen and the twisted logic of why Joe Biden is GOOD for the ticket is already being puked in the MSM.

Hey Barack, we don't need your Stinkin CHANGE!

hey

no Southerner on the Democratic ticket = lost election!

has a Democrat been elected in the 20th century with no Southerner on the ticket?

I think only Wilson was.

I think only Wilson was. Every other Dem prez from the 20th century had a Southerner on at least their first term win.

#1 Lib Picks #3 Lib to Be His Number Two

Senator Barack Obama, the Senate's most liberal voter for 2007 has picked Senator Joe Biden, the Senate's third-most liberal voter as his running mate just in time for the Democratic National Lovefest in Denver on Monday.

Biden brings his vote for the Iraq war, his vote for NAFTA, continued support for the PATRIOT Act, continued sanctions on Cuba, and other parts of his record as the sixth longest serving Senator to the ticket of Change.

Senator Biden, who has always wanted to be Vice President is known for being a very loyal man, and is predicted to stand by Senator Obama to the fullest degree. He is expected to bring in the
Indian vote, a demographic lacking in support for the Obama campaign

The #2 most Liberal Senator, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island was sleeping in and not available for comment.

Hard to imagine a better

Hard to imagine a better choice (for our side). Now if McCain would only make an intelligent choice.

“it is not the role of this Court to pronounce the Second Amendment extinct.” - Justice Antonin Scalia

What do you say, Ben

will you go along with Sarah Palin?  I think it would be a magic ticket!

This Sen. McCain's election to loose

Regardless what the MSM says, Obama-Biden is a more liberal ticket than even McGovern-Shriver in '72.  If Sen. McCain is smart and chooses a conservative to balance his ticket, he'll win this thing.  Probabaly with 55% of the vote.  If he chooses Sec. Ridge or Sen Leiberman, not so much.

I'm still hoping for Gov. Romney or Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska.  But after what I witnessed at my caucus in January, the evangelicals won't vote for Mr. Romney strictly because he's a Mormon. (Idiots)  Gov. Palin has the conservative credibility, the brains, and the talent to take over should the unthinkable occur.  Also, she's HOT!

"Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain." Official Motto of the State of Iowa

IB - I still think McCain is highly disadvantaged

because of the huge fundraising difference and the extreme media bias. Plus, Obama is cute and young and so many people vote on looks and personality and don't even know the issues.

I like Romney and Palin as choices. The only thing that could make me not vote for McCain is if he picked a pro-abortion candidate. Even then, I couldn't just automatically say no way because our national security is at risk. If he does pick a pro-choice candidate, I hope it's Lieberman because then it will be clear that it isn't a Republican ticket.

My wish is that McCain picks

a CONSERVATIVE female as his running mate.  If Governor Palin is his choice, I'm okay with it!  Her credentials are FAR SUPERIOR to those of the Democrat vice presidential candidate!

dee bunk - she is also cute and young!!!

Cape

Cape,

There may be no bigger fan of Governor Palin around here than I, but I'm not so sure I want her (nor Jindal, Kasich, Watts, Steele, or Romney) on the ticket with McCain.

Problem is, if the ticket wins, McCain is still the one setting policy.

"They're both doofuses!" --Mark Levin (speaking of Obama and McCain)

I just want him to

select a CONSERVATIVE!!!  And I think she might be the answer...and, as sitting vice president, we might just have a female president in 4 years if McCain serves only one term.  Wouldn't that send HRC into spasms?!?!

Cape

Cape, funny you should mention that! :-)

Mark Levin was saying that's the only reason he can see for voting for McCain, to position a solid Conservative for 2012 or 2016.

(I'm still on the fence for that idea)

EDIT: and I would love to see a Hillary - Palin debate . . . Sarah would demolish Hillary. ;-)

Hey Dee...

Gov. Sarah Palin is the best choice. Pro-Life and a good conservative. L'man  would kill his chance. I agree with you 100%!

"Nuke 'em 'til they... oh hell, just shoot 'em!"

Interesting...

I think it very interesting that Obama announced his VP selection in the dead of night.

To me, that says it all.

Biden

How about "Barry-O & Uncle Joe - '08"

BTW - you all realize that the "n" in "Biden" is silent, right?

Think about it.

I don't know if I should

I don't know if I should "Bide" my time, or "Stal" for more time. I should ask my Uncle Joe....

OBORTION'S VEEP

Joe Biden - "change we can believe in" -- so much for that slogan!

Obortion could've picked OJ Simpson and the MSM would suddenly gush over that wisdom.

Biden brings "experience" to "balance out the ticket" - why would a "messiah" need "balance" - ? I thought Obortion's teleprompter rhetoric was enough. Especially in those dumb "red states".....

Hey, has anyone else noticed

Hey, has anyone else noticed the usual cast of whining liberals have not contributed to this post of 50-plus comments? Could it be even they cannot believe what an awful choice this is by their lord and savior?

I think they are re-making

I think they are re-making their bumper stickers to read:

No Change...    No Hope..

Did anyone else catch

the Chosen One mentioning how wonderful it was that Biden had raised his family and NEVER moved to Washington?  WOW!  What a great resume builder that one is...exactly how long is his commute from Delaware??????  Guess that's why he didn't pick Pelosi or someone else on the left coast...they moved to Washington!
