McClellan's First Stop on Cable: MSNBC's Far-Left 'Countdown'

Photo of Brent Baker.

Demonstrating that he certainly has come full circle from Bush-advocate to Bush-basher, Scott McClellan has agreed to give his first cable television news interview, on Thursday night, to the most vitriolic left-wing host: Bush-hater Keith Olbermann. McClellan went with MSNBC over CNN, where he is scheduled to appear Friday on The Situation Room. His fist television appearance will be Thursday morning on NBC's Today show. Maybe Countdown came as part of the deal with NBC?

Olbermann announced on his Wednesday night show:

We will have the first cable interview with Scott McClellan, now scheduled for tomorrow night. Scott McClellan, at this desk with me, tomorrow night. And I can't imagine which of us is more surprised by that eventuality.

Oh, my. I'm sure Mr.

Oh, my. I'm sure Mr. Olbermann is in front of the mirror even now, practicing his look of grave concern.

On Friday night, his entire show will probably be one long "Special Comment."

...definitely an occasion

...definitely an occasion for the special fancy drool-bucket and formal straight jacket...

So, why is a guy

So, why is a guy (McClellan) who, despite his criticism, says he still respects Bush willing to go on a program hosted by a man who is patient zero of the Bush Derangement Syndrome?

Somebody or something got to McClellan.

This is Good Marketing

SMG et al,

This is good marketing for Scott's book. He's not going to go on Fox to sell this nonsense, because FNC viewers won't buy it.

This is smart for him. He probably has some clause in his contract that gives him a bonus if sales exceed a certain number, and Olbermann's viewers are the perfect demographic. Next we'll probably see Scott posting at Daily Kos and Huffington Post.

This is all about money, and Scott is selling his product wisely. ns

Wisely?

Noel,

I agree with you that he is marketing his book to the crowd that it seems to be written for, and that it sure appears to be about the money.

I wonder what happened for him to sell his soul and any honor or integrity he may have once had.

Just for the money?

Sad choice.

One last line, Noel

The lowest circle of hell is reserved for betrayers.

Viper

Viper,

Scott's about to get rich. Very rich. Will he be the first to sell his soul -- or his friends down the river -- for cash?

Certainly not. The sad part is that nine years ago, the press were at least honest about what Stephanopoulos was doing. Heck, he's turned his betrayal into quite a career.

By contrast, the same media members that excoriated Stephanopoulos's behavior are applauding McClellan's. If only there were some in their field willing to point out the hypocrisy. ns

Do you think that's all

Do you think that's all because of bias, Noel?

Bal

B,

Do you have a better explanation? Please tell us why media excoriated Stephanopoulos this way in 1999, but are applauding McClellan now for doing exactly the same thing.

Have a better reason? We're all ears. ns

Assuming that those labels

Assuming that those labels are accurate (I'm not sure that they are), those who applaud do so because this is a guy front and center for a lot of controversies and burning questions that people would love some insight into.

By the time George's book came out, were there any burning questions left to get the scoop on?

balboa - plenty of burning questions on the table

balboa - I can't help but jump in here (got to hurry as the steaks are on the grill for my daughter and myself, but there were indeed plenty of burning questions on the table - in fact, from the left:

Kosovo - According to the Hague, the genocide you sold your war on, did not actually exist. The 100's of thousands to 150,000 estimates ended up being 5-6,000.

Kosovo - Why did you fire Gen. Wes Clark?

Kosovo - Why did you focus on bombing civilian infrastructure?

Afghanistan - Why did you look  the other way as the Taliban took over this once proud country by force, genocide, torture, and suppression of basic human rights?

The economy and the budget surplus - When your little bubble that all is based upon collapses, what are you going to tell the millions of Americans that loose their jobs, their life savings, their children's college education funds, their health insurance; when the projected budget surpluses turn into massive deficits (when a $trillion dissappears), what do you say?

- California energy crisis - Oh right, you said next to nothing, left that to Bush to clean up after you and your Enron buddies left town.

- James Raidy? Charlie Trie? the Lums? John Chung? All would be convicted - not a soul in the media would ask you a thing?

- HIV/Aids in Africa? David Corn summed it up, did he not? Too little, too late - How many times is Bill Clinton going to apologize to Africa? Millions more will die because you did not have the courage to simply lead, like President Bush did.

- Rwanda - The media never really asked you about it did they?

- And after you went to Africa and said "Never Again." What happenned Bill Clinton? Civil war and genocide and millions of refugees in teh DR Congo, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, etc. Perhaps 5-6 million lives were lost, and the MSM marched forward with the shallow promise of "Never Again." Actually it meant, "Again and Again," and we won't talk about it again.

Steaks done. nite.

Cheers to Gary!

Great points as always.

bal, do you imagine that he

bal, do you imagine that he "finally" had to unburden his conscience, or felt like he "had a duty" to tell the story?

What a joke.

From what we've heard so far, it's just more of what some others have been saying: we now think Bush lied in order to attack Iraq and that Cheney and Libby are at fault for Valerie Plame.

Only he's going to make a ton of money on the theory, and get lots of props from the MSM to boot.

Down the river...

Noel,

I'm sure that he will make a lot of money from this book and I know that he is far from the first to sell his soul.  (I have some experience with that from someone who I once considered a best friend)

But on this level, I cannot understand how anyone would put any credibility in his words now.  Liar before? Or liar now?

You are correct that G.S. certainly did parlay his book into "quite a career".  But for me, most in that field have not shown much reverence for the truth, much less having honor or integrity.

I also agree with you that the members of the media excited to ride this pony do not and will not see the hypocrisy of the issue between Stephanopoulos and McClellan since this latest book fits their agenda.

Keep up the good work.  I don't know how you do it as I can only take it for short periods of time and with the amount of manipulation and out and out lies that the MSM puts out there, it often seems like pushing water uphill.

Customers who bought this item also bought...

If you go to Amazon and click on the link for his book, there is a section that says, "Customers who bought this item also bought..." Take a good look at the books in the list. It's seems like only the LEFT wing are buying his books. This is confirmation on who is audience was.

Well isn't this just f'n

Well isn't this just f'n precious....tells you all you need to know about all of this being coordinated from the book release to Congress calling for hearings..all before the coming election and as usual the constant Bush bashing and the evil Cheney/Rove/Libby conspiracies who were the real bad guys who got us into war...what a sorry state the leftists are in with their hatred as far as I am concerned...

With the stuttering scaredy pants Scottie McClellan we have our new John Dean.

He makes me sick....I am putting it politely.

Ouch.

I saw the show...Mary was priceless.

"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Churchill

BT - I saw Mary too

I haven't watched these shows in a long time and I watched both O'Reilly and H&C. O'Reilly's talking points memo was good also. Mary was great at slapping down Colmes with the Plame thing. She was better here then I remember her ever being in the past. You can tell she was mad.

I too gave up on those

I too gave up on those shows a while ago. I guess I should have checked in with them tonight.

Maybe one of the NB staff will post the video of Mary's smackdown. I hope so!

MB - I really gave up on T.V. alltogether

for a couple years now except for Desperate Housewives and Lost. I would turn something on here and there and would over hear the News when my husband had it on, but I've pretty much put myself in a black out. I give them zero credibility anymore. I read my local paper (that also has national news) and articles on the Internet and that is it now.

It was really wild to see how it's even worse that it was before I quit watching. O'reilly and H&C and the News with Brit Hume were the only shows that gave the conservative perspective at all. Matthews had a panel of three and Tucker Carlson was the token conservative but he completely agreed with everything that the liberals said as always. Then David Gregory had a panel of 5 people - not one gave the conservative perspective. He let Dan Bartlett on first but why can Fox find conservative viewpoints for their panels but Gregory has 5 all with the liberal perspective. It's crazy.

I guess I should start watching O'reilly again. Not that he doesn't drive me crazy too sometimes, but at least he allows conservatives on and sometimes agrees with our issues. We should support FOX because they are the only one with any balance.

Show him the money!

Like Hal Holbrook's character in "Wall Street" said, "the bad thing about money is it makes you do things you really don't want to do."  Make no mistake, this is all about money for McClelland.  Face it, he was a disaster as press secretary.  He always looked like a 14 year old who was about to cry.  What future does this guy have without selling out his friends.  I don't respect it but I understand it.  Who in the real world has not been betrayed or screwed by someone you've worked for/with?

It's all about money.  For most people, you can buy anything in this world with money.

WATCH OUT CEASAR...

Ha, both Mary & her hubby James must have the same sort of thought process. I remember James talking about Bill Richardson as Judas. You know, for all of those who wondered how these 2 people could ever get married, well...

Just a thought for everyone at MSNBC who thinks that BathTubBoy getting Scott McClellan's 1st cable interview for his "I Am Judas" book tour, while I am sure that life in the Bush administration was'nt always happy days & sunshine, there will always be the flip side to the story, & maybe even to the person who this story was told to. When Olbermann flames out, & he will (he always does) , the stories we will hear about how much of a fragile, childish, baby he is will come out. We will hear the same sorts of stories we did when he was at ESPN & during his 1st go-around at MSNBC. Where do you think the name BathTubBoy came from? But I think it will be worse this time, because he is running around with no oversight, & is accountable to nobody. So when it comes down, we will hear about how insane he is, & how bad he is to work with/for. Beware Keith, the next tell all could be about you, I'm just saying...

As for McClellan, if he felt the way he did(if the book is to be believed)why did'nt he walk? I have walked away from an employer that I felt had serious problems in the department I was in & would'nt put up with the BS. I did'nt air my dirty laudry at management, I just said nothing could done to change my mind about why I left when I was asked why. McClellan should have just walked, but it begs the question, if he flet this, & nobody knew he felt this way, does he really believe what he has writen in his new book? Did he sell out in order to cash in? Maybe, but I wonder what he stands for, because if he did sell out for a few pieces of silver, then Mary is right, he is Judas.

dany... I love your post

dany...

I love your post here, I agree with all of it..

As an aside, speaking of money and Olbie, Scottie giving his interview there, nkviking has a great link here on NB somewhere with the publishers of the book and the connections with Soros...I think he is right, msnbc is totally controlled by Soros/MM has been for quite awhile as far as I am concerned, just ask Don Imus...plus I think it is the only reason BathTub Boy is still there, at least until after the election.

"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Churchill

Well, McClellan never was

Well, McClellan never was any good in front of an audience, so Olbermann's show is an excellent choice.

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." -Ronald Reagan

I used to just think McClellan was just....

....an incompetent, inarticulate, and utterly ineffective press secretary.  I now believe that he is a rank opportunist and back-stabber.  It's one thing to be critical of Bush (who was ludicrously loyal to him), but it's a completely different story when he goes and hawks his lame book on the most partisan, hateful, virulently left-wing Bush-bashing clown in America.

"women and minorities hardest hit"

Ditto...

I'm wondering if this idiot realizes just how deep into the swamp scum he has sunk? I doubt it...and even if he has, it's too late now. McClellan has just cut his own throat as far as a career in politics and/or government goes. Who would ever trust him?

And as for choosing MSNBC and Olbertwit as his first cable interview, let alone going on Today? He's about to find out what it's like to swim with sharks like those.

"...peace is the highest aspiration of the American people. We will negotiate for it, sacrifice for it, we will never surrender for it, now or ever."  President Ronald Reagan, January 20, 1981

Watch the doughboy self destruct.

Scott McClellan is only just beginning to realize how thoroughly he has destroyed his name.

Personally I always thought he was a pathetic pissant in front of the press and that in itself did not instill confidence in the Bush Administration for me.

Can I get a witness?

McClellan will have to take time to testify before the House Judiciary Committee. I bet he'll also get dragged into the Valerie Plame civil suit.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

Geez!!! Will the insanity

Geez!!! Will the insanity ever end???? Can't these idiots in Washington just do their jobs? And if anyone should be paying for outing Plame, it is her HUSBAND!!! Dick Armitage should be right next to him.

What a frickin' Elihu.

Brain Implant?

George Soros probably made him a deal that he couldn't refuse.

But seriously, given Bush's popularity rating, Scottie (the schmuck) likely just decided to play the odds - with a lot of encouragement from the publisher no doubt.

Sad.  He deserves all the heat he gets.

Like Mary Matlin said on Fox tonight, he either was living a lie during his days of "fully supporting" Bush, or he is living a lie now.

Either way, he's a bum.

Wear your PPE

Personal Protective Equipment must be available to everyone who works in hazardous conditions. The bodily fluids that emit from the upcoming man-love-fest on this show should be considered infectuous when dealing with rodental rat-like life forms like Keith Olberrat and Scott RatClellan.

It would also help if you took a shower in lye soap, just to be sure.

And...

he talked on the Today Show about the visions he had when coming to Washington.  Bush would be a uniter not a divider.  Now he looks back and sees how partisanship is so much a part of Washington politics.  He thinks his books explains that we need to get over this partisanship.  HAH! (in Chris Matthew's voice).  If that's the case, why is he making the rounds on the most partisan network?  Olbermann???  He's certainly a true uniter...of the left wing nutjobs!

NO-NO-NO-NOOO!

Noel:

You DO NOT sell your soul like this and become known to history as a traitor for 10 pieces of silver. Even Judas cast his 10 pieces at the feet of the Pharisees.

This is much more cynical than that. It is a combination of the 10 pieces of silver and high stakes betrayal motivated by a deeply rooted sense of being deserted by all of those that he counted as friends. McClellan has found it convenient to disguise all this with a blanket of some new-found spiritual birth.

You see, for some time, he had been suspected as the source of leaks. Leaks of information that may not have been accurate at all and he was set up to be discovered. His motivation for the leaking may never be known but some suspect that he felt put upon by being kept out of the close circle around the president and then being beat up by the White House press corps because he never seemed to know enough.

He started inventing things and leaking things to save face and he got caught.

A few people like Tony Snow, Dick Cheney, Dan Bartlett and Ari Flescher are aware of this. No President that has ever occupied the White House hates a leaker more than President Bush. As this thing goes on and on with a Mainstream Media Frolicing frenzy and potential damage to John McCain, they are going to have to lose their gentlemenly demeanors and out this sick kid.

They will let it go far to long before they do, as usual.

It was 30 pieces of

It was 30 pieces of silver... (no big deal)

Would that McClellan could realize the cowardice in his act and follow the example of Judas.

McClellan is either a lying POS or a coward who kept his mouth shut in the face of what he now describes as lust for war.

"For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear."
