The broadcast network evening show blackout, of Reverend Jeremiah Wright's 2001 charge that the U.S. earned the 9/11 attacks, continued Monday night as neither CBS nor NBC touched the Wright issue and ABC ran a full story which included Wright's “U.S. of K-K-K-A” hate speech and how Obama has been close to Wright for 20 years, but concluded with how “many African-Americans do not understand” the controversy since the “kind of fiery language Wright uses is not uncommon in black churches.”
The race-based, white-bashing rants may not be so uncommon, but is anti-American shouting -- about how “we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye” and so “America's chickens are coming home to roost” -- so common?
Anchor Charles Gibson set up the story from Jake Tapper by asserting Obama “is being dogged by his pastor's provocative comments.” After the “U.S. of K-K-K-A” soundbite, Tapper pointed out how “Wright has played an important role in Obama's life for 20 years.” Viewers then saw a clip of Obama from June of 2007 giving “a special shout out to my pastor” who's “a friend. And a great leader.” Following some quotes illustrating Obama's awareness a year ago of how Wright's views could prove embarrassing, Tapper ended with how such language is not unusual in black churches.
Not a word on Monday's CBS Evening News (anchored by Russ Mitchell) of Wright/Obama and, on Monday's NBC Nightly News, merely one cryptic “by the way” line from anchor Brian Williams:
Barack Obama, campaigning in Pennsylvania, said the country was probably already in a recession. He called again today for middle class tax cuts. By the way, Obama plans a major speech tomorrow morning in Philadelphia on the topics of race and religion.
In a sermon the Sunday after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Wright suggested America spurred and deserved the attacks:
We bombed Hiroshima! We bombed Nagasaki! And we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye....We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back into our own front yard. America's chickens are coming home to roost.
No part of that far-left, Blame America First language has made it onto the ABC, CBS or NBC evening newscasts since the video became public last Thursday. My March 15 NewsBusters/March 17 MRC CyberAlert item, “Instead of Wright, NBC Touts Childhood Pals: 'Good Luck Barry!',” recounted:
Friday night, ABC didn't have anything on Wright, though after Thursday's Good Morning America aired a story by Brian Ross about Wright's rants, Thursday's World News was the only broadcast network evening newscast to touch Wright as Jake Tapper ran this one soundbite from Wright attacking Hillary Clinton: "Barack knows what it means to be a black man, living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich, white people. Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain't never been called a n----er."Friday's CBS Evening News carried a story by Dean Reynolds which ran the "Not God Bless America, God [bleep] America" before Reynolds explained the close connection between Wright and Obama: "Reverend Wright officiated at Obama's wedding and the baptism of his children and he is described as a mentor for whom Obama took the phrase 'the audacity of hope' for the title of his book."
Saturday's World News and NBC Nightly News (as well as Sunday's World News) ran the "Not God Bless America, God Damn America" soundbite. (College basketball meant no CBS Evening News on Saturday, none in the EDT/CDT on Sunday.)
The story on the Monday, March 17 World News on ABC:
CHARLES GIBSON: Next we're going to turn to the fine line that Barack Obama is walking as he embraces his religion while trying to distance himself from the fiery pastor of his Chicago church. Tomorrow Obama is set to deliver what his campaign calls a major speech on race. As senior political correspondent Jake Tapper reports, it comes as Obama is being dogged by his pastor's provocative comments.
JAKE TAPPER: Questions about Barack Obama's pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, continued to dog the candidate on the campaign trail today. They came after a weekend of damage control: Putting out an explanatory video, removing Wright from his campaign team.
REVEREND JEREMIAH WRIGHT: They will not only attack you if you try to point out what's going in white America, U.S. of K-K-K-A.
TAPPER: Wright has played an important role in Obama's life for 20 years.
BARACK OBAMA, JUNE 2007: I've got to give a special shout out to my pastor. The guy who puts up with me, counsels me, listens to my wife complain about me. He's a friend. And a great leader.
TAPPER: Today Obama condemns Wright's controversial remarks.
OBAMA IN WEB VIDEO: When these statements -- or at least some of them -- first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign.
TAPPER: Wright was originally supposed to speak at Obama's candidacy announcement, but Obama disinvited him, telling him Wright recalled for the New York Times quote, “You can get kind of rough in the sermons. It's best for you not to be out there in public.” Last April, Wright said, quote: “If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me. I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.” But many African-Americans do not understand, pointing out the kind of fiery language Wright uses is not uncommon in black churches throughout the country. That will be a topic Obama addresses in his speech on race Tuesday.
OBAMA: Part of what I'll do tomorrow is to talk a little bit about how some of these issues are perceived from within the black church community for example, which I think views this very differently.
TAPPER: Another reminder of the chasm between black and white America.

Hey, they dealt with it on
March 17, 2008 - 20:51 ET by motherbeltHey, they dealt with it on the weekend. Obama has "dealt" with it.
It's "old news" now. Time to "move on."
I've said in the other threads, if this is the kind of rhetoric that goes on, and indeed is expected, in black churches all over this country, we have a problem.
Donna Brazile talked about women coming out of church with their hats on sideways because they'd been so "lifted up." Being "lifted up" and getting excited about God is one thing. What Jeremiah Wright was doing in that video, IMO was more like "rabble-rousing." I am not saying the people in that church were rabble...I'm saying that was the technicque was more like trying to incite a crowd than trying to "lift people up."

March 17, 2008 - 21:02 ET by MightyMouth"Rev" Wright is just being a good business man.. Telling his customers what they want to hear. It's not Religion, its bisness... The business of racism. It sells better then sex (although he used that too if you saw the video). Does anyone think that the right rev lives in poverty like the majority of his flock? NFW! He is a sham artist just like swaggart and Baker. His bro's jesse, Al and Farakahn are livin large! (just like obama is) but just Imagine how many sins Obama can correct as President!
"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...
Of course he doesn't live
March 17, 2008 - 21:15 ET by motherbeltOf course he doesn't live in poverty; in another thread someone said he shows up at church in a Porsche...and I'll bet his house is no 3 bedroom split-level either. He tells his congregation not to be entralled by the idea of middle-classness...I guess he wouldn't lower himself to that level.
He can talk about racism, AIDS, government conspiracies all he wants, but when he specifically talks about Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, he has campaigned from the pulpit. But I don't expect anything to happen because of it; they (even white candidates) have been campaigning in black churches with impunity for years now. But let a Catholic priest or a white minister say something like "It's your duty to vote for pro-life candidates" and you would swear they were praying for a Republican president.
Oh, wait...that was in a black church, and they prayed for Obama to become President. Nevermind. <waving hand>

Once again, the MSM's soft racism of diminished standards -this time in seeking to excuse hysterical hate - because it's "not uncommon in black churches" - like that somehow makes it okay?

March 17, 2008 - 21:50 ET by CJK51Here in Scranton, PA, we've been the proverbial hotbed of Democrat activity the past two weeks. Last week, it was a big rally for Hillary and she marched in this weekend's St. Patrick's Day parade. Our local paper, which never lets the facts get in the way of a good story, had this front page headline: "Parade Goers Adore Hillary." And they still call and ask why I cancelled my subscription three years ago. What was funny about the Hillary adoration is that it all seemed to come from kids who were not old enough to vote.
The frenetic atmosphere continued today with the soul-healing, pastor-admonishing, silver-tongued (only in front of a Teleprompter) Obama rolling into town. Our local media, staffed by frustrated actors who all seemed to study the Shatnerian technique, was giddy over the fact that M-TV rented out a local sports bar to tape Barry's big appearance. And really, what says credible news source like M-TV? To cap off his evening, Obama was to speak at the annual dinner for some Irish women's organization (complete with signs spelling O'Bama, and the apostrophe a little shamrock -- just precious!).
The television coverage has been predictably hoary, but I will be interested to see if the local newspaper gushes over Obama as much as they did Hillary. Despite Scranton being a huge Democrat stronghold, let's just say it's also a great example of the types of Democrats who won't vote for Obama.
And can you believe I didn't venture out to meet either of them? What a squandered opportunity! (sarcasm off)
Just when you think that
March 17, 2008 - 22:16 ET by jdhawkJust when you think that the drive by media can't get more bizarre, they shock and awe in their attempt to get the American people to willingly suspend their disblief!
Yesterday, as reported here on NB, the NYT attempted to have us believe that whores are smart, sophisticated, intelligent, even cool not the witless, drugged, diseased, burn out cases that are typical of those that are in the "business" for just a few short years.
Now, the "major" TV news networks are attempting to have us believe that racism, America is wrong, hate mongering is business as usual in African American churches across America.
Shame on them; they are despicable.

Possible Quotes from Obama's so-called 'Race Speech':
March 17, 2008 - 22:52 ET by BarkerHere's some possible "news quotes" from the speech:
1) "I can't quit you"
2) "I'll follow Jeremiah Wright to the gates of hell"
3) "I was for Jeremiah Wright before I was against him"
4) "I've never seen the guy before in my life"
5) "I'm resigning my candidacy effective immediately"
(just soundbites?)
this has no bearing on america
March 17, 2008 - 23:32 ET by sajc05while i think obama has a lot of explaining to do because this man is a clear racist...
WHY DOES NOBODY CARE ABOUT OUR COUNTRY CRUMBLING?????
Bush cuts taxes (BERNANKE TESTIFIED THAT TAX CUTS DON'T PAY FOR THEMSELVES (conservatism 101)) increases spending by trillions, prints money out of the treasury like its toilet paper, borrows from china and the financial markets collapse and WE as CONSERVATIVES are crying about what some racist black dude said???
KARL ROVE told tom tancrado that if he kept up his argument that the border should be SECURED then he would find the "doorway to this administration darkened" and rove is now on fox news?
can someone on this board that really believes they are conservative tell me WHY WHY WHY i should feel nothing but betrayal and a "thanks for ruining this country" for/from bush?
north american union/ open borders/ spend us into ruin bush?
i'm done with his conservatism and people that defend it.
IF anyone here is a TRUE conservative than they would agree that cutting taxes - increasing spending - sinking the dollar by printing off/ borrowing money - giving billions of $ to mexico to secure their own southern border while leaving our own wide open - have your justice dept/ put 2 border guards in prison for defending our border - have our transportation dept. ignore the will of congress and the people and go ahead and try to allow mexican trucks on our roads even w/out being able to pass an english proficiency test.... yada yada yada....
IS NOT CONSERVATIVE
because of these things i despise bush for destroying a great country... don't be a hack for a party, support CONSERVATISM not these back stabbing REPUBLICANS
and trust me i know the dems are faaaaarrrrr worse, but we should expect better out of these people
I am in agreement with you
March 18, 2008 - 01:33 ET by mostlymoderateI am in agreement with you on ONE thing: we should expect more from our politicians (whether Democratic or Republican). Think about it, how did we get stuck with a race between McAmnestly, Shrillery and B. Hussein??? Really, how did these three become the greatest our Country has to offer for the highest job in the land? Where are the Reagans, the Kennedy's, the Eisenhowers and Roosevelt's of our time??? What the heck was wrong with Romney for the Republicans and Edwards for the Democrats? Why not Giulliani? Is the unfair media to blame?
That's all..
Tell
March 18, 2008 - 08:36 ET by cvgbuckeyeTell you what, 05, that type of approach is what causes a weakened Conservative Movement to disappear from the political scene for decades.
First of all, your statement regarding tax cuts is a somewhat telling hint that you are basically unaware of Conservative principles and are probably misrepresenting yourself as a Conservative;; but thats cool;; you can say what you want to on here.
There are basically three camps of Conservatives on the scene today:
1. Those like yourself (if you really are a Conservative) who are readily new on the scene and have decided to tear down the movement by your Bush hate;;;; of a man who has subjected himself to ALL the naysayers and "take it and shut up" because he decided that his "legacy" was not as important as the security of The United States of America. I recommend that this group read a little of Barry Goldwater, Pat Buchanan (his old stuff) Bill Buckley, Phyliss Schafly and others.
2. Those elected under a Conservative flag and then desert the philosophy in short order and cause irrepairable damage due to the fair weather Conservatives described above. See the 2 previous Senators from Ohio for example.
3. The rest of us who still admire the Conservatives that are hanging in there. Those of us who still hold President Bush in high regard, in spite of a few mistakes; a man of deep Christian values who has tried and sometimes failed to do the right thing.
By the way, I would vote for Karl Rove, today, if he ran for president. Quit joining the MSM in vanquishing everything that this administration has tried to do. I know its fashionable for psuedo-conservatives to do so.
Don't sugar coat it...
March 18, 2008 - 14:29 ET by Khyris.... the statement regarding tax cuts is more than a hint of unawareness of conservative principles...
... it's an unequivocal confirmation of a total lack of comprehension of simple math.
After the tax cuts, the treasury garnered significant increases in tax revenue. More revenue is, well, MORE than less revenue; doesn't get much simpler than that.
Truth will overcome these leftist wieners' denials
March 18, 2008 - 07:11 ET by PlaceboThe media’s swooning of Obama and his vitriolic and bigoted pastor and mentor is no earth shattering revelation. Let’s face it, these leftist wieners have been bowing to this apostate, Obama, shamelessly, non-stop as if he is the second coming.
Obama’s feigning that he was never about while this alleged holy man, Pastor Wright, was spewing anti-American, anti-white rhetoric is, let’s just say, an utter lie.
Meanwhile the self-righteous, Barak’s disciples within the mass-media, not only choose to ignore this repugnant and obvious falsehood, they audaciously call those of us calling it as it, truly, is… bigots.
The majority of Americans aren’t sheep-like and out-and-out dullards, as those within the self-anointed ranks of the media presume. In the end, it will come back to bite them on the you-know… as it will other leftists who propagate the Obama myth; the big-lie.
As a black member of a black church...
March 18, 2008 - 08:54 ET by ksimm81I have been going to my church since 1988. I have missed many services and many sermons.
That abeing said, I STILL know where my pastor stands. And my BLACK pastor would have never said the atrocious things that the 'Reverend' Wright said.
We actually lost our assistant Pastor on 9/11. He was on the 93rd Floor on Tower One.
And while the Sunday after 9/11, 'Reverend' Wright was saying that all of America deserved what happened that Tuesday, my Pastor and the whole congregtion were out on a revival crying our eyes out because of our fallen assistant Pastor. He was still 'missing' at the time and his remains were not found to October in 2002.
NEWSFLASH: Reverend Wright doesn't speak for ALL BLACK CHURCHES!
I find it hard to believe that Obama never knew his Pastor harbored such feelings.
I was always leery about Obama and I TRULY AM now. I don't trust that man.
I would love to see an African-American inthe White House....JUST NOT OBAMA!
