CBS Devotes 3% of Hillary Profile to Scandals, 42% in Obama Piece

In a lengthy seven-a-half minute Friday CBS Evening News profile story, “For the Record: Hillary Clinton,” reporter Nancy Cordes devoted a measly 15 seconds, a piddling three percent of the story, to scandals connected to Clinton's actions. But the night before, in a “For the Record: Barack Obama” profile, reporter Dean Reynolds allocated 42 percent of his piece to Obama scandals: Anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan's ties to him and his church as well as his connections to indicted developer Tony Rezko. Here's the totality of all viewers heard Friday night from Cordes about scandals blamed on Hillary Clinton during her life:

Hillary Clinton's role and relationships factored into nearly every scandal that rocked the Clinton White House. Whitewater, an investment deal gone bad with friends from Arkansas. Travelgate, where she allegedly participated in the firing of seven White House Travel Office employees.

Cordes then stressed her innocence as she led into a mention of Monica Lewinsky; “But multimillion-dollar investigations turned up either no wrongdoing on her part or not enough evidence to prosecute. And the only Clinton investigation that did stick had decidedly little to do with the First Lady." Cordes proceeded to segue into her Senate years: “She has called it the greatest adversity she ever faced. But instead of retreating from public life, she decided to run for office herself.”

CBS News could contend that since Obama's past and questionable relationships are less known -- and certainly have been virtually ignored by the media -- that his profile needed to take more time to get viewers caught up on those matters. But a piddling three percent of a story to go through the many scandals in Clinton's past, to say nothing of the present with Norman Hsu? That seems ridiculously short and missed an opportunity to remind viewers of the myriad of Clinton scandal details they have probably forgotten.

Also, while Reynolds had described Obama as “a traditional liberal,” Cordes refrained from applying any ideological tag to Clinton.

In his February 28 story, which at 6:16 was more than a minute shorter than the time Clinton got Friday night, Reynolds gave 2:37 (157 of 376 seconds, 42 percent) to charges Obama's church is “anti-Israel,” how “a church-related publication saluted Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan, a well-known anti-Semite who in turn has praised Obama's candidacy,” and Tony Rezko:

Obama's long association with a now-indicted developer named Tony Rezko could be a liability. An Obama fundraiser from the early 90s, Rezko goes on trial for fraud next week. But his unsavory reputation was well-known for years. So it raised eyebrows when Obama and Resko's wife, Rita, bought property next to each other on Chicago's South Side on the very same day in 2005 even though by then Tony Rezko was under federal investigation. But no one has charged Obama with wrongdoing...

The time Cordes devoted to Clinton administration scandals in the February 29 CBS Evening News story in which I counted her first paragraph (15 seconds of a 444-second story, 3 percent) as allocated to raising scandals for which Hillary Clinton could be blamed (this entire portion took up 38 seconds, just over 8 percent of the story):

Hillary Clinton's role and relationships factored into nearly every scandal that rocked the Clinton White House. Whitewater, an investment deal gone bad with friends from Arkansas. Travelgate, where she allegedly participated in the firing of seven White House Travel Office employees.

But multimillion-dollar investigations turned up either no wrongdoing on her part or not enough evidence to prosecute. And the only Clinton investigation that did stick had decidedly little to do with the First Lady.

HILLARY CLINTON, IN 1998: I am happy to answer the grand jury's questions.

NANCY CORDES: She has called it the greatest adversity she ever faced. But instead of retreating from public life, she decided to run for office herself.

live by the sword..

Hey Billary,

Welcome to our world!

You are not getting a fair shake? (live by the sword..)

Take note John Mc Cain, you are in the same boat as the person that you said: would be a great president.

Ronald Reagan, 1962: I did not leave the Democratic party, the party left me.

Insert: your name, 2008, and the Republican party.

Romney / Jendil  2012 (if,we survive)

“She has called it the

“She has called it the greatest adversity she ever faced. But instead of retreating from public life, she decided to run for office herself.”

It just nauseates me how these horribly inept "journalists" regurgitate whatever impluasible line that is given to them by certain people, while questioning everything that comes from other sources, such as the Bush White House.

Does anyone really believe that Hillary actually came to a crossroads when Bill was caught with that trollop and a cigar?  That she was caught by surprise by his actions and stopped to ponder her future?  And she thought, "NOW I will run for president"????

But then that actually contradicts her statement: "I have no plans to run for President", NBC's "Meet The Press", 9/15/02-as reported by Mark Finkelstein two weeks ago.  Which also contradicts a statement by her close advisor, General Wesley Clark, who stated that she's wanted this opportunity all her life.

Jeebus, don't these MSM people do ANY fact checking???

As Mary Mapes said, when

As Mary Mapes said, when asked if they shouldn't have verified the authenticity of the documents before running the story:

"No, I don't think that's the standard."

And, as the Clinton administration was wont to say: That explanantion is no longer operative.

They think it all starts from zero every day. They really do live in a "50 First Dates" world.

The surest sign that they are switching their explanations is when they start out with "I've always....."

Sure you have.

Re the Lewinsky thing: maybe it was the turning point. Maybe the Priapic One said honey, if you stick by me, I'll help you run for President!!

Enough already.

Poor hillery ---once again a victim but not the right kind...this time she is getting less coverage on all levels...she should be careful about questioning the media because to be ignored is the kiss of death...Typical that it has to do with the negatives not being reported on her but on her opponent..

With any hope at all this will be over on Tuesday. We will be able to go on and elect a real president and not a presumptious one.

Lassie had the same problem as Hillary

Remember when Lassie ran for president?

Lassie: Woof woof

Timmy: What's that girl? You say the media isn't giving you a fair shot? They aren't fair to you?

Lassie: Woof woof

Timmy: Yeah. That picture of you sniffing that doberman's butt didn't help.

Lassie: Woof woof

Timmy: You say they pick on you because you're a girl? I have news for you, Lassie. In real life you're actually a male dog portraying a female dog.

Lassie: Woof woof

Timmy: Oh? Well f*** you too, Lassie!

Don't mean to be catty, but..

Oh, I suspect it had something to do with the 1st lady [Hillary]

Oh, I suspect it had something to do with the 1st lady [Hillary]

And the only Clinton investigation that did stick had decidedly little to do with the First Lady.

It's widely understood by now that that particular president of the United States suffers from some form of an aggressive comulsive sexual disorder. Surely one of the contributing factors encouraging him to pursue his target victims would find it's roots in those acts Hillary was not willing to perform on the president of the U.S. Therefore one might include that she was involved.

Ooooooh, Gary

Your post just positively oozes irony.

Of all the scandals, in all the Clinton universe.

Too funny.

Blondie -- of all the scandals... there were others

Thanks gal. (;~>

However, what really riles me is that there were these other scandals all around Bill Clinton - and involving Bill Clinton, that did result in meaningful investigations, indictments, and convictions with sentences, do not exist in the minds of the press. There were the numerous scandals involving all of his old (perhaps some new) friends and associates in the campaign finance and federal election law violations.

Here's one of the final sentencing announcements by his US Department of Justice: RecordFinehttp://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/2001/January/017crm.htm. Abramoff who appeared in a photo or two in the Bush white house, with little if any meaningful contact with President Bush, became a household name compliments of the MSM, yet the name of that foreign national James Raidy in the link above, an old friend and associate of Clinton who visited the white house and had numerous working meetings with the president, does not ring of a Clinton scandal amongst our nation's MSM journalists. They do not have an interest in pursuing illegal activities of their friends in power.

Clinton was tried and found guilty of war crimes against humanity, by those silly radical groups in Europe - I just think it's worth mentioning.

Many of his contributors and contacts who his administration did great favors for in the corporate and accounting fraud scandals of the 90's were convicted and sentenced - Enron being but one.

Well, you know

Hillary has all that presidential experience, um, until it comes to scandals.

Then she goes all forgetful.

No worries, she's toast on Wednesday, anyway.

Good riddance.  It will be great to get the Clinton's off the national politcal landscape again.  I am experiencing Clinton fatigue, redux.
