Belzer Links Reagan with Iraq 'Heist,' Calls Giuliani a 'Fascist Thug'

The right wing's “big heist” in Iraq led by bankers who “are screwing everyone” all “started with Ronald Reagan crushing the poor, crushing the unions,” actor/comedian Richard Belzer bizarrely claimed Friday night on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher before proceeding to smear Rudy Giuliani as a “fascist thug with a comb-over trying to suppress his speech impediment.” [This item includes an accurate quotation of a vulgarity.]

Belzer
, who plays “Detective John Munch” on NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, appeared on the show's panel with musician Herbie Hancock and ABC News reporter Martha Raddatz. When Hancock asserted $80 billion is unaccounted for in Iraq, Belzer launched into this tirade:

This is a big heist, this is a big heist. The right wing is in power, the bankers are screwing everyone -- the oil companies, Halliburton -- this is no fucking mystery. These people have been after this. It started with Reagan crushing the poor, crushing the unions, rewarding people, putting them into heads of certain departments of the government and then disassembling those departments because they have contempt for the government.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

What government department was ever disassembled in the Reagan years?

About 25 minutes later on the January 25 show, the topic turned to Giuliani's plummet in Republican presidential candidate polls, and Belzer took advantage of the opportunity to malign him with personal insults:

He has run the most unconscionable campaign, mentioning 9/11 every other second, trying to instill fear in us. Americans are tough. We don't need this fascist thug with a comb-over trying to suppress his speech impediment and change his entire personality. I mean, what you see on TV, that's not really Rudy Giuliani. Before 9/11 his approval rating was 32 percent in New York. He was detested in New York.

Just a small taste of what is to come

This moron, who I would bet never saw the inside of a high school classroom, is a perfect example of the mentality, morality and attitude of the majority of todays herd of liberal lemmings who, unless checked, will soon rule our country. He is, of course, a perfect fit for Maher's sewer show.

Belzer

If I were this crapweasel, I would be careful in cracking on someone's looks...has he looked in the mirror????

Richard Belezer

You all seem to forget how Belezer is smarter than the soldiers in Iraq, because he reads 20 newpapers evey day, like the New York Times among others.

Even in his acting on TV is just talking crap about things he hates or does not understand.

Whats more, that he is Jewish and being a Jew,I hope you don't take his views as the views of all the Jews.

What government department was ever disassembled in Reagan years

It sure as hell wasn't Education or Energy, despite explicit promises made then. Both are now even-bigger drains on the taxpayers despite both being educational & energy failures because politicians need sinecures in which to place the fat asses of their worthless in the job-market buddies. As sinecures, they're both an absolute flourishing success.

In fact, one of the reasons I work so hard for Paul is that I firmly-believe he's the only one who'd actually-keep those Reagan-era promises Ronald Reagan didn't keep. The others may talk a good game on spending, but I've seen their performance too often to believe their words are anything close to true.

I realize we do it here, but we're not journalists...can you imagine the uproar if a criticism of HRC on one of the political shows made reference to her "piano legs"?

I guess it's OK for a liberal to mock someone's "speech impediment."

Hypocrisy, thy name is Liberal.

Is There Anyone . . . .

Is there anyone in Hollywood, who can just do their job without sharing their stupid, ideaological, and hateful commentary with the public?  Who the hell cares what Belzer thinks?  At what point in his life did he accomplish anything that makes his thoughts provoundly more important then anyone else?  One of this country's failings is our willingness to give these morons a platform to expound on the trash occupying their brain.  Worse yet, we end responding to it like it's important.

Not knowing much about this

Not knowing much about this jerk I looked him up inWikipedia (I know not the best source but the easiest.)

Belzer was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA to a Jewish family of Francis and Charles Belzer, a candy and tobacco retailer.[1] His cousinis actor Henry Winkler.Belzer grew up with his parents and older brother Leonard. As a youth, Belzer worked as a paperboy and was "kicked out of every school he attended". Nonetheless, Belzer attended and graduated from Andrew Warde High School in the neighboring town of Fairfield,Connecticut. Both parents died while he was young: His mother died of cancer when he was 18 and his father committed suicide when Belzer was 22.

After high school, he worked as a reporter for the Bridgeport Post. He attended Dean Junior College in Franklin, Massachusetts for a year and a part of a semester before being asked to leave for leading too many student demonstrations. According to one interview, he was majoring in Physical Education.[citationneeded] After leaving college, Belzer was encouraged by his father to enlistin the Army. For a brief period, he studied and then later taught yoga. One of his earliest comedy routines included a character "Yogi Yogi, the Yodler" a contestant in a yodeling contest.

Belzer terminated his enlistment early. He married Gail Ross, a union that ended in divorce. Belzer relocated to NewYork City, and moved in with singer Shelley Ackerman, and began working as a stand-up comic

On March 27,1985 on his cable TV talk show Hot Properties, just days prior to the inaugural Wrestle Mania, Belzer requested that Hulk Hogan demonstrate one of his signature wrestling moves. Hogan put Belzer in a front chin lock or sleeper hold, which caused Belzer to pass out. When Hogan released him, Belzer hit his head on the floor, sustaining a laceration to his scalp which required him to be hospitalized briefly. Belzer sued Hogan for $5 million, and later settled out of court. Belzer used the settlement (rumored to be $1.5 million) to purchase a cottage in France, where heand his wife Harlee live when he's not working in the U.S.

So he is on real (idiots) with Bill Maher, what in his background tells us he can find his way out of a one ended barrel? A non funny comidian, that droped out of school, the army, two of three marrages, sue ssome one for 5 mil. Then buys a house in France, with US dollars, and bitches about America.

I love the line: the big heist! You have no talent, and you sue peope, and YOU, have the nearve to talk about big heist?????

Then he has the nerve to talk about Rudys hair, Dude.. have your looked at your face? It looks like the moon, (the bad side).

Small children could get lost in those craters.

I, and I would say for the most of us here: Go back to France, and pick at your face.

I remember reading an article about him years ago where he bragged that his life was so good, the biggest decision he has to make all day is what to have for lunch.

That always stuck in my head about him, because only in America could a loser like him have so much money and comfort and then has the gall to blame America, specifically Republicans, for all the evils in the world. I say he has too much free time and money on his hands, and maybe needs to start helping others less fortunate instead of wasting his time figuring out what to have for lunch.

No. They are all so full of themselves, that they think it is their duty to educate the dolts out there as to what they should think, believe, and vote for.
I wish I could remember who it was that said something like "If we can't look to our celebrities for guidance on this, who can we turn to?"

The jaw-dropping egotism and condescension of these hacks is a sight to behold.

I noted Herbie Hancock mentioned in the piece. I'm a musician and big jazz fan. I've always said that jazzers many times make the mistake of taking the horn out of their mouth and attempt to educate? their fans.

I have quit watching any of the Law & Orders. The first Criminal Intent came after Vincient Defore (?) made smart assed remarks about Bush. Next came SVU after Belzer said that he was smarter than our soldiers. Finally I had had enough from regular Law & Order making comments about Christians that I quit watching it. All and all I don't watch anything on NBC any more.

I don't think that Maher's show is watched by that many people. The ones that do watch are as big an a-hole as he is.

Fred Thompson and Belzer were not on the same show. Fred did make some appearances on SVU but he would have no reason to be seen with Belzer.

Richard Belzer was a

Richard Belzer was a somewhat funny comedian back in the day, except when he went off on a political tangent.  Then he became remarkably un-funny.  But his bizarre, ad-hominen attacks on Reagan and Bush display a simple-minded knee-jerk "angry guy" who very likely has "personal issues" and projects that anger in the wrong direction.  But I'm no psychologist.

Belzer is one of those morons...

Belzer reminds me so much of pothead characters from movies and TV shows who latch on to conspiracy nonsense. Ironically, he plays a fictional character of serious thought and stablity when in reality, he is an aging Hippie who got lucky enough, in between deep drags off of cigarettes and bong hits, to find an audience for his humor and a TV show needing someone with performance experience and a leathery face. And of course for a Crybaby Boomer Hippie that equates to insight, intelligence and the ability to detect mass conspiracy (because it's all around us ya' know).

Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!

Belzer's reality is clouded

Belzer's reality is clouded by the fact that he is an idiot. Who cares what he and his ilk think or do.

Belzer

Belzer is my generation. Then,as now, there were two groups in general---those who went to school, studied, and for the most part did the right thing. Then there were those who dropped out, either physically, morally, or intellectually. These people simply refused to live by the "rules", refused to do anything that didn't give them immediate pleasure or allow them to give vent to their every emotion. They also refused to grow up. Responsibility was anathema to them. However, they always took care of themselves. Their hypocrisy took over. While they preached how bad the establishment is, they took from it --big time. Look at these clowns in the media, on t.v., in Hollywood, in our government. They are simply unprincipled, lying  "liberal" hypocrites who, under the facade,  loathe themselves as well as everyone else. Financially, many of them have made out much better than many of those who did the "right thing", yet they continue live with their own demons. But while doing so, they've ruined the common good and put future generations in dire jeopardy with their malcontent. When they get the michrophone, they use it to divide our nation. Rosie, Maher, Moore, Matthews, Olberman, Belzer, Bill and Hillary...on and on it goes.

NEVER, NEVER trust a "liberal"

Belzer's comedy is soooo passe...

Belzer is famous for one, and only one, funny comedy stunt he did back in the 80's.  He impersonated Mick Jagger dancing while singing "Can't get no.." He likened the skit to a struting barnyard rooster on LSD.

Thinking back, Mick Jagger is (ugh) better looking than Belzer and Belzer probably WAS on LSD at the time.

Lastly, a previous post said it all, he belongs on Maher's show with the rest of the mentally challenged.

Richard Belzer

Anyone is entitled to an opinion.  But why do these TV and movie people think we give a damn what that opinion is?  I like Belzer as an actor, but I am not interested in his political views, whatever they might be.  And, by the way, we don't seem to be hearing much about Oprah-Obama anymore.  Wonder why?

In fairness, Belzer may

In fairness, Belzer may just be suffering from the after effects of getting slapped around by that wrestler...

By the way, Munch was a great character on Homicide...when he had a decent script and good actors to work off of.  What's his purpose on SVU...the most stiffly scripted and acted show on television since Dragnet: 1968.

Richard Who??

Richard Belzer?? Did he invent the thermometer or something? Could you cover people who MATTER please, and not third rate hack actors?

Perhaps you could be so

Perhaps you could be so helpful as provide a list of approved people who "matter" enough to cover and discuss.

Richard Lewis?  Richard Dawson?  Richard Chamberlain?  Richard Petty?  Cliff Richard?

Drill et al: Red States/Blue States explanation

The first year that the television networks were able to broadcast the election returns in color, they arbitrarily assigned the color blue to the incumbent candidate, and red to the challenger. All through the years that was the way they did it.

Gore, as a sitting vice-president, was considered the incumbent so he was "blue" on the network maps and Bush was red. Bush won and the networks went wild and created the whole RED STATE insanity.

Kerry should have been given the red color on the map to represent his challenger status, and Bush should have been given blue to represent his incumbent status, but it was too far gone. The media had created this whole RED STATE meme and they weren't going to let it go.

Now after eight years I doubt it will go back to the original way, which was just a method of showing which states had gone to the candidates.
