FNC's Special Report with Brit Hume on Monday picked up on the late 2007 Sacred Heart University poll, highlighted Monday morning on NewsBusters, which found that by three-to-one Americans see a media slant to the left over the right while FNC led as the “most trusted” news source. In the “Grapevine” segment, fill-in anchor Bret Baier recited how the survey determined “45.4 percent of the respondents think journalists and broadcasters are mostly or somewhat liberal. Just 15.7 percent think they are conservative.” He then ran through how “44.9 percent view CNN as liberal; 41.9 believe the New York Times leans left; 40.3 for National Public Radio and 38.8 for MSNBC.” As for as which outlet is “most trusted?” FNC “led the way with 27 percent, CNN at 14.6, NBC News at 10.9, ABC News at seven, local news 6.9. CBS 6.8, MSNBC four and Public Broadcasting at three percent.”

The NewsBusters posting, “Sixth Poll in a Year Finds Public Recognizes Liberal Tilt to News Media,” recounted:

For the sixth time in a year, a national survey has found many more Americans see a media bias to the left than to the right, and the latest poll released earlier this month by the Sacred Heart University Polling Institute, discovered “significantly declining percentages of Americans saying they believe all or most of media news reporting,” with MSNBC (at a piddling four percent) and PBS (three percent) the least trusted for accurate reporting. Fox News, at 27 percent, was the most trusted, way ahead of second-best CNN at 14.6 percent. The Fairfield, Connecticut university's January 8 press release reported: “Just 19.6 percent of those surveyed could say they believe all or most news media reporting. This is down from 27.4 percent in 2003.”

By a three-to-one margin “Americans see news media journalists and broadcasters (45.4 percent to 15.7 percent) as mostly or somewhat liberal over mostly or somewhat conservative,” but for NPR and the New York Times recognition of a liberal tilt is closer to four-to-one.

Check that posting for a rundown of the previous five surveys.

The January 21 “Grapevine” segment item from Bret Baier:

Another national survey has found that more Americans believe the news media leans more to the left than to the right. The study by Sacred Heart University Polling Institute found 45.4 percent of the respondents think journalists and broadcasters are mostly or somewhat liberal. Just 15.7 percent think they are conservative. 44.9 percent view CNN as liberal; 41.9 believe the New York Times leans left; 40.3 for National Public Radio and 38.8 for MSNBC. Now, 48.7 percent said Fox News is mostly or somewhat conservative.

As far as which outlet is "most trusted?" Fox News led the way with 27 percent, CNN at 14.6, NBC News at 10.9, ABC News at 7, local news 6.9, CBS 6.8, MSNBC 4 and Public Broadcasting at 3 percent.

→ FOX is being unpatriotic

OK, maybe they're just passing up an opportunity to serve the American public.

FOX News owes it to the American people to siphon more of its News over to their local affiliates.

They should go heads up against CBS, NBC, ABC, with Brit Hume and the gang during the Evening News.

Seems somehow unfair that only extended cable subscribers have access to more fairly treated news.

Very good point. Fox will

Very good point. Fox will break in time to time, but only in special circumstances. Their network doesn't amount to much anyway. Other than sports, and Chris Wallace's show, they have 2 hours a night. If they put Britt Hume up against against ABC,CBS and NBC's finest, Britt would whip 'em!

→ Gary

Imagine the disgrace the "big 3" would experience in an apples to apples race.

It certainly says something when NBC, CBS, ABC give their product away for free and FOX, a pay channel, kicks their collective butts.

Liberal Bias Rises and Sets with the Sun ...

... it's a 24/7/365 phenomenon.

Only thing is though ... it's a daily raising and lowering of darkness ... with conservative values being the daily rising and setting light of the truth upon that darkness.

Everyone on the planet can see the liberal bias in the media ... it's just that there are a few (15.7% apparently) who won't publicly admit it.

Its hard to describe, but

Its hard to describe, but FoxNews feels like a diluted version of itself lately.

Conservative bias?

The only people who could see a conservative bias are so far to the left that they think CNN shills for the Bush Administration. In other words, people so far to the left that they're left of the media. So of course, to them it would seem to slant right.

True, so true...

You know lot's of the people who still watch the MSM especially ABC, NBC and CBS are getting older and older and are stuck in the past; in fact, they yearn for the "good old days" when Cronkite gave them their news in neat little bundles, all the news they needed for the day. My sister is a one of these lefties and she seriously told me one day "...the only news you ever need to watch is Bill Moyer on PBS...". The left has a hard time thinking outside of their bubble. It is a strain on their brain cells. This is why they hate us so much, we trouble them with our "deviant and dangerous thoughts". They think we are criminal anarchists. Amazing.

45% Liberal bias 15%

45% Liberal bias

15% Conservative bias

That leaves 40% which are so far left they think the liberal bias is fair and balanced.

That would mean 85% liberal bias which is more in line to actuality.

I find it weird having to use another site for this...

But it has to be this way. It looks like things at Fox may REALLY be tilting to the left. This article from AIM--Accuracy in Media should explain things...

And I find it intersting that Sacred Heart University, hardly a j-school would put out such a study and take a risk of villifying itself. You see Sacred Heart owns an NPR radio station--make that a set of radio stations.

WSHU-91.1--Which carries NPR's main news programs and claissical music--my former boss Tandi Wilder was News Director there--she has since moved to DC to work in another media company.

WSHU-AM 1260--formelry Westport's lone radio station, commercial outlet WMMM, ten years ago SHU bought the failing station, which couldn't compete with other stations like WSTC/WNLK, WICC Bridgeport and of course the NYC stations, and put NPR's News/Talk programming on it.

WSUF--89.9 Greenport--see above, but serves Long Island.

The group also includes a bunch of translators covering Long Island, a tiny bit of Westchester County, NY and southern CT, sending the signal to places like New London.

WSHU's main studios are located at Jefferson House on the campus in Farifield--I've been to the place a couple of times and I call it the SHU Shack--well just because. And I was considering SHU when I was in high school. Of course, I ended up at the now infamous UCONNISTAN--whose own radio station in Storrs WHUS--is your typical college station, including programs from Pacifica!

Bob, I have noticed a leftward tilt at the FNC also.

As far as I am concerned, the slide began about two years ago. I think Rupert has made a mistake in turning the whole thing over to his lefty son. Then again, at Rupert's age, does he really care at this point? Besides, Rupert Murdoch isn't exactly a conservative himself, as he seems to enjoy rubbing elbows with Broom Hilda and others of that ilk. It will be interesting to see what happens once he is out of the picture entirely.

As for Michael Savage's dust up with the CAIR crowd, which has received almost no media attention whatsoever, it would be very unfortunate for this country if that group of Islamo-supremecist terrorist supporters should somehow succeed in getting him removed from the airwaves. They have already cost him some sponsors. I do not think many people fully grasp the serious implications that would have for the future of freedom of espression in this country.

If things have deteriated to the point where an organization that has known ties to Islamo-supremecist terrorist organizations is allowed to force an American talk-show host from the airwaves in his own country, it would be just one more sign that we are losing the GWOT, as I believe we are.

None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. -J.W. von Goethe

It's funny

When I'm having a conversation about the media bias.. the libs' response is "well what about talk radio? huh? come on you 'neo-con' or 'bush bot!!1'".. and my response is usually, "How's that Air America doing?.. Oh noes!!1 We have AM RADIO ha ha ha (sarcastic evil laugh).

Yes, but Talk Radio reports

Yes, but Talk Radio reports on news the liberal media won't cover, hence the balance! Plus, you don't have to be a "neo-con" to REPORT THE NEWS ACCURATELY. See Drudge.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

libs just looooove drudge

nothing but 'he makes crap up' responses by them... I just don't get it.. how can we see through all the bs, but not the idiot leftists?

I know I have right wing views, but I just want news anchors to do their job: reporting the news, not give their opinions.. that's what shows like the view are for... so I can ignore them

Only 38%?

Only 38% see MSNBC as biased? I think the percentage of the population who've ever seen or even heard of MSNBC can not be much higher than that.

msnbc and PBS came in

msnbc and PBS came in last....

ROFLMAO!

Too bad we are forced to help fund PBS.

Public sees liberal bias in media

Public also notes that grass is green and sky is blue. Gimme a break.

Happy Trails...
