In the self-incriminating quote of the night, an unidentified white man, in a Tuesday night CBS Evening News story on Barack Obama, insisted “I don't want to sound prejudiced or anything,” but then proceeded to declare: “I don't want to vote for a colored man to be our President.” The soundbite aired during a piece from Dean Reynolds on Obama's racial identity and how it gives some blacks “pause” because “he is not the descendant of African slaves, but is the son of a white mother and a Kenyan father.” Reynolds, reporting from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, concluded by observing that “of course, there are whites who will never vote for Obama because he is black.” The unidentified man, standing in what looked like a store, then asserted in a soundbite:
I don't want to sound prejudiced or anything, but for one I'm not gonna, I don't want to vote for a colored man to be our President.
The CBSNews.com online version of the Reynolds story identified the man only as “one South Carolina voter.”
The man certainly, and very unfortunately, confirmed the media's prejudices about conservative white men.

Why do you assume he was a conservative? When the party is not identified in association to a negative portrayal, 99.99% of the time it is a Democrat.
When asked if he went to war with Iraq to derail the impeachment vote: “I don’t think any serious person would believe that any President would do such a thing." - President Clinton (Dec 1998).
I agree, a conservative
November 28, 2007 - 09:19 ET by general companyI agree, a conservative would not even consider Obama. I also think they would know better then to spout off with this type of nonsense, libs say stupid crap all of the time. If the media did not ID him as a conservative, isnt it safe to say he is a Dem?

Add to that, Republicans
November 28, 2007 - 09:34 ET by Hero SquadAdd to that, Republicans right now can't vote for Obama unless they switch parties.
With a plethora of reasons why a conservative would not consider voting for a liberal-to-the-core Democrat, skin color would never even come into play.
Meanwhile, a liberal Democrat should support most, if not all, of what Obama stands for, leaving only one factor that would cause said Democrat to vote otherwise.

November 27, 2007 - 21:17 ET by dscottBrent, it's called political black ops from the bag of dirty tricks, and this season seems to have an inordinate amount of this activity. It started successfully with George Allen over the Macca flap and then moved on to Foley over the gay issue. That the MSM is participating openly in such an unethical pandering to the race card means the Dems and MSM are particularly worried about the outcome of the primaries and general election.
The MSM has chosen Obama over Hillary, so now begins the process of race baiting in order to put everyone on the defensive to help Obama level the playing field so to speak by instantly implying that if you are white and don't vote for Obama you are a racist. If Obama loses, all the Dems and MSM will caterwaul and mewl that America is racist and more steps need to be taken.
Liberals know they can't win if the election is about what they really are (Socialism, socialized medicine, welfare or high taxation), that's why they are hiding behind the "Progressive" rebranding.

Prejudice
November 27, 2007 - 21:38 ET by Lame CherryThere is not a human alive who is not prejudiced in every form from sight, sound, scent, touch due to our relationship with our parents and later transends to emotional psychopathies.
One either votes for their parents or votes against their parents. In that democrats vote for people who make excuses for them and GOP'ers vote for people who learned to disdain failure.
Someone not wanting to vote for a black because they are black deals with a prejudice of only liking what they visualized growing up.............and in turn any reporter in the MSM who makes things like this an issue is due to the fact growing up they grew to be racists.
Reporters, producers and anchors on the media are such interesting tadpoles swimming about tasting race, oggling sex, vomitting religion, touching perversion and simply hearing only those things being spoken which gives them cover to practice their prejudice by making an issue of the other people.
A very interesting genesis of the Democrat party of 1850 showed they were heathens, anti American and bigots. They still are today in the liberals pulling the same watch the white rabbit game.

November 27, 2007 - 23:13 ET by mostlymoderateThere are many legitimate reasons a person might admit to not voting for a black president. One could be the fact that blacks represent a minority of the population and that a black president might spend too much time working for black causes instead of "American" causes (causes that effect EVERYONE).
It's not Obama's fault. The black community is confused with the agenda's of people like Sharpton, Jackson, Rapper's, etc. Now I KNOW that most black people do not subscribe to any of the above; however, that is what the media PORTRAYS. Therefore, I can understand a white person being weary of voting for a black person.

Besides what I have written below, B. Hussein Obama has little political experience. He is a first term Senator. He has no national experience beyond this term. And, given that he is running for president, he hasn't had the time to learn that job, yet.
On the following issues is how I am judging the candidates, defeatocrats or Republicans (I state where I stand on each issue):
1. What do they propose that we do about Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the WOT? Support finishing the job we started in both countries and root out and destroy islamofascism whever it may be found.
2. What is their position on immigration in the United States? Secure our borders and enforce existing law. This will ensure that illegals do not continue to enter our country and will force the ones that are here to move back where they came from.
3. Will they make permanent the tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 and abolish death taxes and the AMT? Tax cuts ought to be permanent and we should abolish death taxes and the AMT.
4. Would they federally fund embryonic stem cell research? No, an alternative has already been found.
5. Do they favor or oppose legalized abortion in the United States? No, except where the mother's life is in danger. It is murder.
6. Do they favor or oppose the concept of universal health care in America? No. And, we should move the existing government health care programs to private enterprise where possible.
7. Do they favor the concept of privatization of Social Security? Yes, immediately.
8. Do they favor or oppose giving the president a "line-item" veto? Yes.
9. Do they support assistance for the production of ethanol and/or biofuel as an alternative to oil? No, it is inefficient and drives up the cost of this commodity, corn, for all other uses.
10. Do they favor or oppose a constitutional ammendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman? Yes.
11. Do they favor or oppose the use of the death penalty for certain crimes? Favor.
There is not one of the above items that B. Hussein Obama and I see eye to eye on. And, for that matter, none of the other dimocrats do either.

As a lifelong white boy, I agree with several of the comments above re race. I'd vote for just about any color or sex of human if he or she represented my interests. Barack does not.
UPDATE: Maybe this should be an additional comment. I'm not that smart.
Well..... I'm not very sophisticated in the way these comments post, but as of today, and after I mentioned the diversity training video in Denver earlier, I read the News, and the training video has been pulled. After one guy complained about the video, numerous other employees of Denver who had been subjected to the show came forward to complain as well.

What I don't get is...
November 28, 2007 - 08:33 ET by sarcasmoWhat was so-wrong with "black." Sure it's inaccurate just like white, but if they wanted accuracy they could have gone for 'dark brown' and 'light brown.' The terminology-change seems to me to be designed (by those who make all of their money off of racial conflict) to incite racial conflict where otherwise there would be none. It's very hard to explain the shift from "black" to "people of color" in any other way. I still just say "black."
Racism is a problem of the heart, and such issues aren't where government (which has no heart) shines. You can't legislate morality. It's a minority-view, but I think any racial progress in my lifetime has been despite, not because-of, big government. I'm blessed to work in a company that has none of that BS, and I know I'm blessed -- which is also a blessing -- even though I sometimes take it for granted. Our black employees are there because they're excellent employees. Period. I'm lucky to work with them.

South Carolina
November 28, 2007 - 08:41 ET by candanceI'm really getting tired of the lefties in the media portraying the south in the worst possible light.
A few months back it was Whoopi Goldberg saying Michael Vick didn't know any better because he was from the deep south - as if everyone in the south tortures animals.
Then it was De Palma showing his murderous Marines with a Confederate flag in their quarters.
Now it's this news report (about voters in New Hampshire) going 800 miles away to find a racist in the south. At least this time they got a guy with a real southern accent, though.
Such elitist thinking. Any time they need to justify or explain something, they say it happens down south and immediately all their liberal viewers accept it. If that sound bite had come from Minnesota, would people be more skeptical?

The part I like is the fact
November 28, 2007 - 09:00 ET by USA4freedomThe part I like is the fact that no one remembersany….history. It was theDemocrats….. standing…in.. the.. doorways of the southern schools. Some how this great lie goes onforever. Repeat after me.. TheRepublicans are racist. Are you going to believe the Democrats or your lying eyes. Black Democrats under Clinton, (after receiving some 90% of the black vote) Ron Brown.. and….? Black Republicans under Bush,(after receiving only some where around 10% of the black vote) Secretary of State Colin Powell and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, to General Services Administrationdirector Steve Perry and Kay James, head of the Office of Personnel Management. All this and the people we put up as judges, running for state and national office, example: Clarence Thomas Steel, Blackwell and Swann. On the other hand in the Democraticside of the debate you get: McCall (ran for Mayor of NYC) and thelate Maynard Jackson (DNC Chairman hopeful) all tossed under the busfor…drum roll please.. white guys..
Look, can’t we get past the race card. The Democrats have this weird idea that theRepublicans want blacks not to get ahead. You being poor or uneducated does not make me richer or smarter. It will give us.. higher taxes to help support the poor. Watching blacks in poverty does not put one dime in my.. pocket, but it will take dollars out of my wallet for: welfare, food stamps, etc. More proof that Liberal ideas do not work.

I agree this guy is fake. The implication is that he is a Conservative- Republican. No one who leans left will even consider that this guy is a Dem. The reason he is unlableled is so they don't have to lie.
The thing is, like Kerry in 04, dems will eventually nominate whomever they think will win an election, in otherwords whom they think the most number of Republicans/independents will vote for.
