'CBS Evening News' Gives Barely 20 Seconds to Rather's Lawsuit

Wednesday night, Katie Couric read this short item on the "CBS Evening News:"

Dan Rather filed a $70 million lawsuit today against CBS. He accuses the network of making him a quote, “scapegoat” for a discredited story about President Bush's National Guard service. In a statement today, CBS said Rather's “complaints are old news” and his “lawsuit is without merit.”

On ABC's "World News," anchor Charles Gibson allocated about the same amount of time to the lawsuit, but Gibson gave a glimpse of Rather's paranoia, pointing out how “he accuses the network of punishing him to pacify the White House.” Ron Allen included that claim in a full story on Wednesday's "NBC Nightly News."

That's Fair & Balanced.

That's Fair & Balanced.

They gave Dan 20 seconds more than he deserves. ;-)

. . . and no matter how horrific the terrorist attack, it's conducted by losers. Winners don't need to hijack airplanes. Winners have an Air Force. --P.J. O'Rourke

I'd Rather not...

Well I guess they've got it right. Liberals suing liberals just isn't newsworthy. Now if you'll all excuse me, I'm going to go watch one of the many "what's new with OJ" channels. I'd like to see him fudge wearing a glove this time :)

My ratherdom for a tarty horse

I sit here amused typing this in visiting the thoughts of what all these people must really be:

Katie Couric: "Ok I can use this in my own lawsuit against CBS when I get fired too in saying I failed because CBS tarted me up and I have Dan's own tartie up statements about me which ruined my career."

Charlie Gibson: "I only got this job because Woodruff had no brains getting out of an APC in a war zone and now this Rather with no brains is sinking all the anchor boats."

Ron Allen: "Man I used to work for this Rather. Clinton acted nuts on dope but Rather is nuts without the dope."

Dan Rather: "Everyone is against me Kenneth. I look in the mirror in the morning shaving and someone is in there looking back at me. I don't dare call the police because every time I try he disappears out of the mirror. He works for the White House too....."

Welcome back Dan. It has been rather like..............."so boring it was like watching sweat form on Gramma's dill pickles on a hot summer day and having no money to bet on which drop would hit the floor first".

Eat your own Dan as you always said, "We don't report the news. We MAKE the news." Manufacture the story Dan.....be the story.

I'M CONFUSED...

Dan Rather's lawsuit has reaffirmed my opinion of him that I had formed in the 80s. I remember seeing this...Here is a guy who should have gotten fired after an incident during the 1987 US Open, which CBS has always broadcast. Danny Boy(not danybhoy)got pissy about the fact that a match was being covered to it's conclusion & he stomped off the set. 6 minutes of dead air, prime time network air time, 6 of em, dead. He should have fired (thanks to wiki...)September 11, 87, even Uncle Walter said so.

So since then, Danny Boy has been paid in the neihborhood of $200 million, this for the #3 horse in a 3 horse race-for most of that period. Mr. Rather should just go back to his gig at HDTV & enjoy the fruits of his lowly rated, badly overpaid labor. I believe Dan Rather has issues with honesty. I get the impression that he believed his own BS & that he thought he was bulletproof, & he surrounded himself with those who are likeminded, Mary Mapes. She still holds the idea that the fraud they tried to sell is true. The sooner we never hear from these morons, the better.

Kudos to Bernie Goldberg for taking all the crap after he called him out in his books, Bernie was spot on.

}}---> Another Danny Boy moment

Remember when he showed up to cover the SF World Series earthquake and was so befuddled (I'm not actually saying he was drunk, mind you) that Walter Cronkite had to come in and bail him out?

~LYDSEXICS UNTIE!~

Wait... Dan Rather was fired?

That's funny...  I thought he was 'stepping down'?  That is what virtually ALL the MSM nets were saying during the fallout of memo-gate.  You can't sue for making your own decision.  Right?

The American Revolution Continued

Katie's missed opportunity.

Just think of the street creds Katie would have got if she had burst out laughing after reading that copy.

Twenty seconds - that's what they gave Kerry..

Twenty seconds - About as much time as CBS spent investigating and holding John Kerry responsible for his actions.

gee - I don't remember

gee - I don't remember hearing ANYTHING on Fox News when Bill O'Reilly was being sued
