Ex-CNN's Franken: Romney Painted NAACP as 'Willie Hortons,' 'Grand Dragon' Limbaugh Wants Jim Crow Return

By Brad Wilmouth | July 17, 2012 | 07:44

A  A

Appearing as a panel member on Sunday's Melissa Harris-Perry show, syndicated columnist and former CNN correspondent Bob Franken obnoxiously accused Mitt Romney of trying to portray the NAACP audience he spoke to as "Willie Hortons" whom he could use to motivate his Republican base. He went on to claim that Rush Limbaugh, whom he called the "grand dragon of radio," represents people who wish to return to Jim Crow segregation in America.

After fellow panel member and MSNBC contributor Joy Reid charged that Romney attended the NAACP convention to impress moderate white voters and also to motivate his conservative base, Franken began:

(Video can be found here.)

Well, I share your analysis that he was trying to fire up the base and was using props. I think that what he was trying to say to the base - and this will be a bit provocative, you know how I hate that - what he was saying to the base is that he was talking to a room full of Willie Hortons

That that was what he was trying to do, in the same way this Willie Horton name was used, as you know, earlier in our political history, our troubled political history, as evidenced by the fact that the, his immediate reaction from the grand dragon of radio, by whom I mean Rush Limbaugh, tracked that.

After host Harris-Perry, impressed with hearing Limbaugh called a "grand dragon," exclaimed, "Wow!", Franken continued:

He does speak for the people among the conservatives who wish for a return to the good old days of Jim Crow. That is what he was doing, and he was doing it, I think, in a very passive aggressive way.

How do people previously believed to be sane, get to such a point that they are willing to go out in public and make statements such as this?

This guy has always been a jackass. Only difference now is he probably has enough money to live on so he doesn't care about trying to hold on to a job anymore.

Mr. Franken better watch it, giving the DNC wet dreams away like that would lead to the union thugs calling on him.

The DNC were responsible for the "Jim Crow" laws throughout the south not the RNC, but I never expect facts and truth from a CNN employee.

Exactly

Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 07/17/2012 - 8:37am.

He went at their invitation, and he told them what his agenda was about with changing it to please the crowd.

Yet, for doing so, the MSM has accused him of (a) failing to change his position on Obamacare to win their support, and (b) deliberatley provoking a negative reaction to his repeal-Obamacare statement in order to win over skeptical right-wing extremists.

Had he avoided references to Obamacare, he would've been accused of pandering to the group.

And had he not gone, he would have been accused of insensity toward African-Americans (at best) or racism (at worst).

But these are the same people who insist that there is no liberal bias in the media.

Submitted by minky on Tue, 07/17/2012 - 12:39pm.

I realize that making statements like this about public figures is protected speech, but for most rational people there is a limit. For a pig like Franken to say this sort of thing amounts to slander in the eyes of respectable society. Leftists love to admonish others to be civil, while they say any damn thing they please. FU Franken!!
