Ex-SNL's Dana Carvey Jabs Romney: 'I Hate Poor People'; Obama Is Like a 'Zen Master'

By Brad Wilmouth | July 14, 2012 | 02:41

A  A

Appearing as a guest on Friday's The Tonight Show on NBC, former Saturday Night Live cast member Dana Carvey demonstrated the tendency of comedians to have fun with President Obama in a fashion that builds him up while poking fun at Republicans in a way that tears them down.

When asked by host Jay Leno about the presidential election, Carvey remarked that Obama is "like a Zen master of speaking" before mocking Mitt Romney's speaking ability:

(Video can be found here.)

Well, it's going to be really interesting because Obama is like a Zen master of speaking, and Romney is like, he seems sincere, but he's a little jumpy, you know.

"I like to set people on fire. I mean, I like to fire people. [BRIEF PAUSE] That don't provide me services."

[PAUSES]

"I hate poor people, and I want to heal them." What? "I mean, I hate that they're poor and it will kill (?) them."

After adding, "Now, that's not a winning thing against Obama," Carvey made fun of Obama in a way that was not so denigrating. Imitating Obama's voice, he began:

Because Obama, Obama has a lot of confidence. That's the thing about Obama because Romney's [SPEAKS JIBBERISH TO IMITATE MITT ROMNEY BEFORE RETURNING TO BARACK OBAMA VOICE] And Obama knows how to pause. He knows how to let things settle down.

"Obama knows how to pause"?

He pauses because he must be very careful what he says. He knows at any moment he may begin sponaneously blurting out the truth.

Carvey gives no credit

Submitted by celator on Sat, 07/14/2012 - 10:45am.

Carvey gives no credit whatsoever to the loyal teleprompters who have always been there for Obama.

They never complain, they don't gossip about the Obamas, they never get angry when they have to fly in the dark cargo compartment of Air Force One. They endure a lot and get no credit at all from anyone.

Just wait until the teleprompters decide to "not work properly" just before one of Obama's speeches. Then you'll see some panic, mister. Then people will see what's what. We are sick and tired of being taken for granted.

Thank you for your attention

I''ve heard there's one guy in Yonkers, NY who pretty much believes Obama is a good speaker. Other than that, there's nobody.

Dana Carvey?

Submitted by Willis_Leon_Johnson on Sat, 07/14/2012 - 11:30am.

Wasn't the movie "Blank Slate" his autobiography?

I thought he wrote it based on his real life experiences and he was the only one qualified to play the part of  Dana Carvey.

It certainly seemed to be a real life of the majority of hollywood types.

I KNEW he'd be a big lib!

Submitted by NJRightWinger12 on Sat, 07/14/2012 - 11:48am.

When he'd refuse to imitate, much less makes fun of, Clinton or O'Bozo, and of course, rip into Reagan, Bush Sr and Jr, and any other GOPer. Gee, I wonder why his career is in the crapper? And naturally, old time lefty Jay puts him on FRIDAY night, the night the losers go on, in which he usually tapes the shows either on Thur, or whoever is free on the weekends cause they have no career to speak of-see Carvey, Dana!

And, btw, my sister was named Dana, so thats a GIRLS name, lol!

Dana, in classic Zen buddhism, Zen masters use nonsense.

Submitted by drsamherman on Sat, 07/14/2012 - 12:52pm.

Their goal is to elicit a moment of awareness, an achievement of understanding beyond human words. Zero is not a Zen master, because he has not even mastered the basic English language in everyday rhetoric. He has to understand the meaning of the words before he can engage in zazen instruction. Not to mention, Zen masters are supposed to have a clear path and be able to influence others to attain that path. Your Zero can't even get his own party's majority in the Senate to act upon the most basic of all governmental functions--a budget.

So cut out with the Zen crap, Dana. You don't know what true Zen is, and certainly Oblivious is the anti-Zen.
