Chris Rock Lambasts Mormons for History on Race, Defends Obama
Appearing as a guest on Thursday's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC, comedian Chris Rock alluded to the Mormon Church's controversial history on race from several decades ago as he asserted that "Mitt Romney's crew" had "believed black people were the devil until 1978." Rock:
What's going on? Okay, I just heard this the other day. The Mormons, Mitt Romney's crew, they believed black people were the devil until 1978. I'm not making this up. Right, right, right?
He soon downplayed the lingering recession as he defended President Obama's economic policies. Rock began his defense of Obama:
Obama's had it tough, but Obama is good, man. But to think about Obama, you got to realize, man, first of all, the economy has been getting better every month, for almost like two years. And everybody's going: It's not getting better fast enough. It's like complaining that your team keeps winning by one.
Blaming former President Bush, he went on to argue that Obama had a "clean-up job to do" as he came into office.

That's the first thing I noticed too. Which part is the "not making this up" part? That Mormons "thought blacks were the devil" until 1978 or "I just heard this the other day"?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a.k.a. "Mormons", did not allow black males to hold "Priesthood" before 1978. So Chris Rock is partly right. However, it wasn't because the "Mormon" Church thought they were "the devil."
Just as polygamy and polylandry were "outlawed" by then President Wilford Woodruff in 1890, after 1978, all worthy black males can now hold the "Priesthood" in the "Mormon" church.
All Chris is doing is pushing the Obama agenda by spinning the facts and trying to make Governor Romney's faith an issue. I may be stating the obvious here but Chris and most of the entertainment industry are desparate to get President Obama elected so they spin. Chris and the political party of donkeys needs to understand that spinning at these speeds will only make them dizzy.
One other thing...
All "Mormons", including Governor Romney, believe that the Consititution of the United States is a divinely inspired document. There is no such thing as a “conscientious objector” in the “Mormon” church.

That's right Chris, never forgive the poor judgment of the past and that people just may have the capacity to change for the better. We're all racists just like you.
BTW- using your standard of perpetual guilt with no forgiveness then why in blazes are you promoting the Democrat Party? They are the ones who created the KKK lynching black people and instrumental in passing Jim Crow laws. Where's your outrage and condemnation of Democrats? Why are you not daily throwing in Harry Reid's face the actions of Bull Connor, a Democrat? How about George Wallace? A Democrat. Would that mean you would have to acknowledge the actions of Eisenhower, Nixon and GOP members of Congress for advancing Civil Rights despite the objections of Democrats during that era?
What's the problem there Chris? You can forgive the Democrat Party of their lynchings, promotion of Jim Crow laws and Segregation, but you can't forgive anyone else? HYPOCRITE or worse just plain ignorant.

He is just a scumbag racist..drinking the leftist coolaid that puts black people back in bondage to the Government...and that is his crime, he is not intelligent enough to see he is nothing more than a useful idiot to the left, assisting them in making african americans (or any minority for that matter), held in bondage to welfare, lower standards for education (as if they are subpar humans or something), and equating genetic skin color to sexual preference (as if a choice of who you have sex with equals who your parents are)...He is a pathetic fool.

Man I was a Chris Rock fan until I saw this. As a Mormon, I was totally offended by what he said, because it is such a lie. There have been African American members of our Church since it was founded in the early 1800's, and there are tons of stories of early Church members taking struggling Black members under their wing, providing them shelter, buying the freedom of slaves, and fully fellowshipping them as friends. The early founders of our religion were outspoken abolitionists, and consistently preached against slavery and racism, and that has continued to be our stance since. Since then, go to mormon.org and ask any Black member of our Church, and see if they have not been viewed and treated as equals. It's so sad that racism even needs to be discussed anymore, because of people like Chris Rock who still want to promote it. Ask any Mormon you know, and you will find that a racist Mormon is about as rare as unbiased mainstream media–they don't exist. Anyone who has questions about what we believe should go to mormon.org.

The first reference in Latter Day Saint writings describing dark skin as a curse and mark from God refers to Lamanites. The Book of Mormon, published in the late 1820s, states the following about a group of people who rebelled against God:
And [God] had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people, the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them. And thus saith the Lord God; I will cause that they shall be loathsome unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities." (2 Nephi 5:21)
The Lamanite nation was the original nation to disobey the teachings of the prophets in the Book of Mormon, and the Nephites were the original people to follow said teachings, though the Nephites rebel and repent throughout the book. The curse was also placed on the Lamanites' descendants "because of the traditions of their fathers", (Alma 17:15) which would ultimately "be taken from [them] and be answered upon the heads of [their] parents" (2 Nephi 4:6)
The mark of blackness was placed upon the Lamanites so the Nephites "might not mix and believe in incorrect traditions which would prove their destruction" (Alma 3:7-9). The Book of Mormon records the Lord as forbidding miscegenation between Lamanites and Nephites (2 Nephi 5:23) and saying they were to stay "separated from thee and thy seed [Nephites], from this time henceforth and forever, except they repent of their wickedness and turn to me that I may have mercy upon them" (Alma 3:14)."
You know what Rock was referring to.
Well, they must have repented.

It is difficult to "overlook" the black side of Obama as the Racist in Chief throws it in our face every day. He is not the "first black president" - he is the "first mixed breed president". As Rock says they try to ignore his "white side." It appears to be he would be considered a racist white or black. Chris Rock is just an overpaid, underrated "comedian/" much on the same scale as Bill Maher. Obama certainly can attract the scum can't he. Rock should crawl back under one and take Maher with him. What a pompous arrogant racist jerk.

The Mormons, Mitt Romney's crew, they believed black people were the devil until 1978.
And the point is....? If it's to paint Romney as some kind of drooling racist then that brush slops over onto Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Reid, born in 1939, converted to Mormonism while he was in college, making his conversion sometime during the late 50s or early 60s at the latest. Almost fully two decades before the 1978 "enlightenment" of the Mormon faith.
So whatever it is Rock is trying to allege (smear) about Romney applies equally to Reid, if not more so since Reid wasn't born into the faith but consciously chose to join. In other words, if Romney is a racist because of this then Reid is a bigger racist as he knew about the slight to blacks but joined anyway.

Either that or you are terribly mis-informed. At no time in our past or present did the LDS Church ever teach that Blacks were the devil. Our canonized scripture teaches that all are alike to God w/o regard to race, color, creed, or gender.
"For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he doeth that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile." Chris Rock is a pawn, he doesn't say anything knew or very truthful here. It is almost a form of mind control that political elitists and Hollywood members are managed with. It all sounds the same after a while, is there a leftist bible out there that they all get their words from?
There appears to be a sleeping giant awakening in America these days, and we can thank Chris Rock, and all the rest for lighting a fire underneath us. The silent majority feels under attack and is ready to fight back and take our country back. So go ahead and make jokes all you want- underneath your levity, we can feel how tense you are because your time is almost up. Its just too bad that this group feels the need to belittle others to retain power and make themselves appear better.
