Margaret Cho Complains GOP is 'Against Our Rights,' Palin Tries to 'Beat Feminism Down'

By Brad Wilmouth | May 28, 2012 | 13:47

A  A

Appearing as a panel member on Sunday's Melissa Harris-Perry show, comedienne Margaret Cho wondered why some women are Republicans as she asserted that the GOP is "a party that's so against our rights, our reproductive rights, so many rights in so many ways."

Cho also complained that Sarah Palin tries to "beat feminism down," claiming that "Sarah Palin wouldn't exist without feminism."

After host Melissa Harris-Perry recounted a GOP drive to appeal to women, Cho wondered:

What are women getting out of the GOP? That's, I always question that. I always wonder. This is a party that's so against our rights, our reproductive rights, so many rights in so many ways. What do we get from them? What do women get from them?

A bit later, after Harris-Perry brought up moderate Republican women like Olympia Snowe who are getting out of politics, Cho brought up Sarah Palin as she responded:

I think they've disappeared just because of social issues and women are such a huge thing. I mean, women, I think, in the GOP are looking for an identity, and I think that's why Sarah Palin's, you know, her appearance was so exciting for them because here is somebody who is really kind of like a showpiece for all of our conservative views and somebody who legitimizes what I think is backward really about, you know, women's rights because, you know, these women wouldn't exist, Sarah Palin wouldn't exist without feminism. Yet, she tries to beat feminism down every chance she gets.

Stupidity piled so high, you

Submitted by winston smith on Mon, 05/28/2012 - 3:22pm.

Stupidity piled so high, you don't even know where to begin. She's probably too deeply steeped in her partisan ignorance and hatred to realize that most of the early feminists like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were Republicans. Probably the more truthful thing to say is that feminism wouldn't exist without the Republican party.

Margy Cho and her sistahs...

Submitted by neutron on Mon, 05/28/2012 - 6:16pm.

Stupidity piled so high, Margy Cho and her sistahs can see Russia from the top of their pile of ignorance. What she and her "feminists" believe is feminism is a diluted facsimile of the original brew. Women's Suffrage was won. Equal rights were won for all.

Sure, there are inequalities that need to be worked out, but things like equal pay for equal work ignores excelling / excellence in your job.

It's "equal opportunity" not "equal outcomes" regardless of effort.
Today's Marxists (progressives and "feminists") can see Russia and China from their ivory towers, and want to be there.

Instead of just talking out your...whatever.... why don't you provide some examples of the "so many rights in so many ways" that Republicans are against for women??

And while you're at it, how about ONE example of Sarah Palin "beating down" feminism?

Liberals are expert ranters, as long as no one actually asks them to clarify what they are ranting about.

And Cho is now a political commentator?

Margaret, it's over. You are over. Rosie O'Donnell bombed on OWN, the only network that would even consider putting that warthog on a regular program. Roseanne's show on Lifetime bombed. You have only live comedy left, and that reduces you to the level of the Rotary Club luncheon circuit or blabbing on MSNBC because Megyn Kelly or Laura Ingraham would slice and dice you on Fox News. The other alphabet networks don't want you because you have all the audience draw of a test pattern.

Take the hint, Maggie. Your career is about as relevant as a buggy whip.

Making someone pay for their personal decisions (in the world of the progressive) means you are against their right to make that decision.

Alright, I admit that as a

Submitted by LinTaylor on Mon, 05/28/2012 - 6:13pm.

Alright, I admit that as a man I might not understand the thinking behind this...

But overall, the way liberal dumbasses like Cho invoke the phrase "reproductive rights" really bugs me. They believe that a developing baby is something akin to a cancerous tumor, and if you don't want it you should be able to go to a doctor, spread your legs (which is what got them into this problem in the first place) get it vacuumed out, and then throw it into the garbage can as they go off and party and probably get knocked up again.

This kind of disgustingly selfish attitude rubs me the wrong way. It's exactly like the people who tie kittens or puppies up in a sack and throw them into a river, thinking "I don't want them, so they're gone." (And as someone who works with the Humane Society in both Georgia and Alabama, I see that a lot.) The only life they care about is their own, and if something gets in the way of their pleasure, it needs to be eliminated.

And it's also the complete and total abandonment of responsibility, embodied by that brain-dead hag Joy Behar saying "When a woman decides she doesn't want a baby, that's it, end of discussion." It's just like their attitude for pretty much everything else. Criminals shouldn't have to suffer the consequences for their actions and Conservatives are horrid monsters for daring to suggest they go to jail or get the death penalty. Illegals don't have to go through the proper channels to become US citizens; things like immigration laws are just a bother and can be ignored. And if a woman wants to run around town getting plowed by any man she thinks is moderately handsome, she shouldn't have to deal with the completely expected after-effect of developing a new human being within her.

Then there's the "Republicans hate women because they don't want drive-thru abortions" attitude. Or alternately, Maggie, Conservatives don't believe it's needed because unlike you, we actually value life. Because unlike you, we recognize that there are physical and emotional consequences to the procedure. Because unlike you, we recognize that there are plenty of people out there (including gay couples, cough) who would love to adopt the baby you just want to chuck into the nearest dumpster. Because unlike you, Conservative women have standards and intelligence and don't whore themselves out.

Because, unlike you, we believe in taking responsibility for our actions and not just running away from anything we consider mildly unpleasant. That's what adults do, Margaret. When you're ready to stop crying, put down the rattle and act like an adult, you'll be treated as one, but until then, I think you should just shut up and take a nap.

I don't think it'd be all that funny, bobsmom. The liberal side would very quickly descend into vitriolic, ad hominem attacks against the other and wouldn't let them get a word in edgewise. The only way it would work is if you had a moderator who could shut off the libs' mics (or, God willing, their mouths) before they took up the entire debate.

However, I have news for Cho. Although I'm a woman, being a woman doesn't define my political views any more than being black should define someone's views. My concerns are much broader than "reproductive health". I'll take care of that on my own and in private. I vote Republican because in an ideal world the GOP would represent the ability for me to be able to earn and spend my money in the way of my choosing, instead of taking it from me and telling me how it should be spent.
