CNN's Morgan Presses Santorum on Guns and If It's 'Christian' to Undo ObamaCare

By Brad Wilmouth | April 03, 2012 | 07:26

A  A

On Monday's Piers Morgan Tonight, as he interviewed Rick Santorum, CNN host Morgan suggested that America needs more gun control, and pressed the GOP candidate on whether it is "caring" for him, "as a Christian," to undo ObamaCare if elected President. (Video below)

Early in the interview, the CNN host brought up the school shooting in Oakland, California, asserting that Republicans "run a mile from this debate" over gun laws, and suggested more gun control should be considered. After recounting the violence, Morgan posed:

It raises the whole issue again of gun law in America. I'm aware most Republican candidates run a mile from this debate, but, given the shear number of cases now of people getting access to firearms who simply shouldn't have them and who then go on to commit these kind of crimes, is it time for a big review of gun law in America?

Moments later, Morgan challenged Santorum on whether it would be "kind" and "caring" of him as a Christian to say to uninsured Americans that he would "throw that out so you guys don't get health care."  The CNN host raised the issue of religion and health care:

Let's talk about health care for a moment. Here's a question for you. You are a Christian famously. You are a Catholic famously. You would consider yourself, I'm sure, because of your religious beliefs, to be a caring and kind man by nature. That would be what you would be perceived to be as a man who follows your faith as well as you do.

He continued:

How could you be happy, from that position, in telling 30 million Americans who are now hoping and expected to be brought under health care cover in America when they couldn't have afforded it otherwise: You're not going to get it. That is going to be my position, my first act as President would be to throw that out so you guys don't get health care.

After Morgan was not satisfied with Santorum's answer, he raised the issue again:

I mean, that was a masterful political answer, but you didn't actually answer my question. What would you say, as a Christian, to 30 million people who are pretty impoverished - and that's why they've been brought into this health care cover by President Obama - what do you say to them? Look them in the eye and say, as a Christian, as a Catholic, "You can sling your hook, you're not going to get health cover."

Isn't it odd. . .

. . . that Lefties want the government to have nothing to do with religion EXCEPT when it comes to higher taxes and health care (shouldn't Christians be happy to care for the less fortunate by having Uncle Barry take more of their money???)

Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering

The religion double standard

Keep your religion out of our government the left cries! Unless that religion might further our cause, then why aren't you following your religious beliefs to further said cause?!

Why, oh why, do conservatives appear on this twit's show?

Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 04/03/2012 - 9:44am.

I'm usually all for marching into the lion's den because I believe that a candidate with solid convictions will usually overwhelm liberal hosts and destroy the Leftist argument.

But in the case of Piers Morgan, it's pointless. It's not a lion's den but a jello pit. His audience can't be very intelligent to watch his crap; there's no potential support to gain, and only new sound bites to feed the MSM.

Then again, Santorum is probably desperate at this stage of the campaign, and any free airtime is better than no air time.

CLUELESS REPUBLICAN MEETS ATHEIST MSMer

Submitted by Sgthulka on Tue, 04/03/2012 - 10:02am.

I see interviews like this and I shake my head. Why do Republicans feel the need to explain/rationalize/proselytize to every cable or network show?

Do candidates think this helps them? IT DOESN'T! He spent the majority of time discussing faith and culture - The trap that Morgan had set for him.

Rick should have known better.

Piers Morgan lecturing on Christian values is like Rosie O'Donnel lecturing on excercise and eating right.

Oikos university tragedy: I knew they would play the Christian.

Submitted by ctyankee on Tue, 04/03/2012 - 3:28pm.

When I read the headlines about a shooting at a "Christian University", I knew that the MSM would jump at the opportunity. They want to say that Christians are just as violent as Muslim terrorists.

It's no coincidence that Piers Morgan mentioned the "Christian University" with respect to gun control, then interrogated Mr. Santorum about his "Christian Values".

If Mr. Morgan is a typical modern Briton, he is probably an Atheist.
