Ex-Newsweek Writer Wolffe Warns of 'Ugliness' Toward Obama from GOP Crowds, 'Same Thing' as '08 Campaign

By Brad Wilmouth | March 24, 2012 | 04:41

A  A

On Friday's The Ed Show on MSNBC, host Ed Schultz and MSNBC political analyst Richard Wolffe - formerly of Newsweek - drew attention to a woman at a shooting range who recently encouraged Rick Santorum to "pretend it's Obama" while the GOP presidential candidate was firing at a target.

After Schultz noted that Santorum criticized the comment when it was brought to his attention, Wolffe warned viewers:

Well, think what happened towards the end of the McCain campaign in 2008, the kind of comments that were coming out of the crowds then, we're going to see the same thing again. Brace yourself. This kind of ugliness will come out, it will be more vocal...

The MSNBC analyst may have been referring to a report debunked by the Secret Service that someone in the audience shouted, "Kill him," during a rally with Sarah Palin in Pennsylvania in October 2008.

Wolffe went on to admonish Santorum for visiting a shooting range during the campaign, asserting that "you're asking for trouble" by doing so. Wolffe:

But, honestly, what kind of candidate goes and has an event at a shooting range? I mean, you're asking for trouble.

For his part, after playing clips from the shooting range, Schultz had set up Wolffe's take as the MSNBC host posed, "He distanced himself from it, but what does this say about this incident and about Santorum's supporters and the people that are hanging around Republican candidates?"

Yes, we will see the same ugliness.
Like the New Black Panthers standing, armed, outside of a polling place shouting "You're about to be ruled by the black man, cracker!!"

Here we go again.

Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 03/24/2012 - 8:06am.

As Flo in the Progressive ad with "Brad" says: Oh, here we go again.

By that I mean the "we're not responsible for our supporters, but you are for yours" routine.

Bill Maher said that if Dick Cheney were dead, more people would live.  He wasn't making a joke.  He added "That's a FACT."

And not a single Democrat anywhere condemned him for it.

But Republicans are supposed to be responsible for every stupid outburst from an idiot in their crowds, every single day.

"Back Fire"

Submitted by mad53PA on Sat, 03/24/2012 - 8:15am.

I agree with MB, all of this to be expected.

I do believe however, that over time this is going to blow up in the Democrats faces.

Yes, there is allot of anger out there but when you spend all of your time calling about half of the voting population, racists, homophobes, violent, intolerant,
anti women etc, well people will only take so much.

When issues begin to focus on Obama and his mouth pieces, there will be plenty of ammo (parden the pun) and they are already doing the loading.

Why does no one in the media

Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 03/24/2012 - 8:27am.

Why does no one in the media every "worry" that the "all Obama's opponents are racist" tactic might "turn off the moderates" in the party?

Liberal tactics

Submitted by FaulknerFan on Sat, 03/24/2012 - 10:02am.

Why does no one in the media every "worry" that the "all Obama's opponents are racist" tactic might "turn off the moderates" in the party?

Because the whole thing is a tactic, embraced by the Republican establishment, to limit the influence of conservatives, who make up 40 % of the country, in the Republican party. If the democrats can get a McCain or his ilk as the republican nominee the choice is between the normal democrat radical liberal and a liberal lite. The conservatives and the majority of the country are then marginalized and the minority liberals dictate the direction the country takes. If the republican is essentially one of them then the country continues on its path to complete collapse, only at a slower pace.

Submitted by kinijane on Sat, 03/24/2012 - 4:18pm.

I hope you are right, because I think that anyone who does their homework will see the crap the
media and democrats are throwing out there is just what it is.....a big pile of crap. What does
concern me is these people who keep reporting this stuff, knowing its outright lying and a lot
of mis-repersentation, are they not worried about what their children are going to have to live
with down the road? Also read a piece about the threats the media are getting if they don't toe
the line, same problem, is a job that involves deceiving the American people worth the demise
of our way of life, loss of freedom, ability to buy and make our own decisions living under laws
that are impossible to abide by?

Where was the Media?

Submitted by tiger20 on Sat, 03/24/2012 - 10:02am.

Where was the mainstream media when actual murders, rapes and assaults were occurring at Occupy movement encampments over the past year?

Where was the media when death requests were made against George Bush?

Where was the media when the left hoped for Dick Cheney's heart to explode?

Yet Santorum stages a campaign event and somehow he is responsible for the ill advised comments of one attendee? Was this a private event or open to the public? How does the media know this was a Santorum supporter?

Coluld this person have been an Obama "plant" designed to exploit the media sensationalsim that was sure to occur? Certainly not beyond the Chicago gangster approach to political campaigning the Obama team is know for.

Expect seven more months of this sycophantasy.

Yes, there certainly was ugliness during the 2008 campaign, but it wasn't coming from the Conservative side!

"But, honestly, what kind of candidate despises oil & cheers higher gasoline prices and then goes and has an event at an oil rig and again with an oil tanker in the background, all while flying around willy-nilly on fuel-guzzling 747s and parading in mile-long motorcades of non-hybrid vehicles? I mean, you're asking for trouble."

America's One-Sided Race Card

Submitted by berlet98 on Sun, 03/25/2012 - 1:39am.

America's One-Sided Race Card

Careful not to pull a boner as he did when he condemned Cambridge cop Joe Crowley in 2009 without a scintilla of evidence, President Barack Hussein Obama has weighed in on the tragic Sanford, Florida killing of 17 year old Trayvon Martin by neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman.

The president, playing the race card for his black base as he did in the Cambridge affair, said, “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon” and demanded exhaustive Sanford, Florida, and federal investigations into the case.

He declared that “some soul searching” was needed throughout the country but made no reference to why the president of the United States is involving himself in a local matter. As with Sandra Fluke and the female vote, Obama figured he could make points with his African-American constituency by telling them what his son would look like.

Despite the fact that details are still evolving on the incident, America’s leftists quickly and mindlessly sprang to a verdict of racially-inspired murder and blamed everyone from Zimmerman, who reportedly has a number of African-Americans and Latinos in his family, to Rush Limbaugh, Jeb Bush, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, George Romney, and virtually every white person in America.

At least they didn’t blame Sandra Fluke.

Professional race-mongers Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton also galloped to the Sunshine State to spread their hateful bile and called for revenge and retribution. It wasn’t clear whom they blamed but presumably it was repressive and murderous white society as well as Zimmerman.

The racist New Black Panther Party didn’t want to be left out and so circulated a poster reading, “Murdered in Cold Blood, Child Killer of Trayvon Martin, WANTED DEAD or ALIVE.”

Accused gunman Zimmerman hasn’t been arrested due to lack of concrete evidence in the case and his claim of killing Martin in self-defense after being attacked, a claim substantiated by witnesses, and various Sanford officials have stepped aside to insure a fair and just inquiry.

No one would question the necessity of a full and thorough investigation into Martin’s death, except perhaps for Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the New Black Panther Party and other racists who have rushed to judgment in order to stir the racial pot, create discord, garner donations, and grab headlines.

There may be a national need for Obama’s “soul searching” just as there was a need for a “new gentility” as preached by the president following the Tucson shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords and which never came to fruition thanks to relentless incivility from liberals.

However, there’s an equally-pressing necessity for objective crime reporting by the mainstream media with respect to black crime in America, a crying need that has frequently been addressed on this blogsite and admitted by some members of the MSM.

See “More Riotous Times in Obamaland,” http://bit.ly/p9gIJM.

The rabble-rousing Farrakhan threatened violent retaliation . . .
