ABC Finds Chris Christie 'May Have Met His Match' in Navy SEAL Heckler, Ignores Dem Activism

By Brad Wilmouth | March 11, 2012 | 04:19

A  A

On Saturday's World News, as he ended a report on New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's dustup with a Rutgers University student who heckled him at a town hall forum, ABC correspondent Mark Greenblatt forwarded Rutgers Law student and former Navy SEAL Wiliam Brown's criticisms of Christie without noting Brown's  history of activism in the Democratic party, specifically that he ran unsuccessfully for a state assembly seat.

The ABC correspondent instead forwarded Brown's complaints about Christie's temperament as if the Democratic activist were concerned about the health of the Republican party. Greenblatt:

A short time ago, I spoke with that ex-Navy SEAL, he says that even though he interrupted the Governor. He does want an apology for what happened next. And, David, he's more concerned, though, that a rising star in the Republican party would actually lose his cool so easily.

A bit earlier, after recounting Governor Christie's history of verbal sparring with audience members in other forums, Greenblatt seemed to relish the idea that the Republican governor "may have met his match":

MARK GREENBLATT: And it's not the first time Chris Christie has made headlines for his combative style, taking on teachers unions and even his own constituents.

GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE (R-NJ): what you want to do is put on a show and giggle every time I talk, well, I have no interest of answering your question.

GREENBLATT: But this time-

WILLIAM BROWN, RUTGERS UNIVERSITY STUDENT: I'm a Navy SEAL, I honorably served this country, I'm a law school student, I didn't deserve to be called an idiot.

GREENBLATT: -he may have met his match in an ex-Navy SEAL.

Submitted by Winghunter on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 5:19am.

First, Wearing honorable service on your shirt-sleeve is dishonoring that service. It doesn't give anyone the right to act like an ass.

Second, Christie is nothing more than a RINO. The Conservatives from Jersey worked hard to put their report on him together. Spread it around so that we might look like we have a clue;

Winghunter and I agree... from what I've observed of the governor, Christis is a non-conservative "conservative", or a RINO.

Still, he's far more qualified to be president than the radical-in-chief that's currently occupying 1600 Penn. Ave.

Something else Christie did

Submitted by Gat New York on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 10:44am.

Something else Christie did last week that was much worse and, as far as I am concerned, crossed the line and has permanently damaged him.

Christie's uncontrollable need to shoot-from-the-lip went too far when he publicly criticized the New York City Police Department for monitoring Muslims and their groups outside New York City and, in his case, in New Jersey.

One: Christie should have had private discussions and meetings with Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Kelly about this and not recklessly use it for whatever pathetic reasons he had as a press opportunity. This alone completely disqualifies him from any consideration to be on a national ticket now or anytime in the future. His mouth has now made this a political opportunity for Obama and Holder.

Two: Christie should be reminded that planning for the first and second World Trade Center attack were in his state! Let the guy finish out his one term as new Jersey Governor and then recede back into the weeds and out of politics.

Actually, Bloomberg should have had the private meetings and discussions with Christie. As the uninvited guest, Bloomberg should have made his presence known. Did you support NYC detectives going down to Texas and making gun sales to try to prove they were illegal? NYC only has jurisdiction in NYC. We have federal agencies authorized to conduct investigations nationwide. I, personally, don't want NYC detectives running around the country trying to prevent or solve crimes. Maybe the AG's office should look into this the way they do when Texas tries to enforce border laws...

Bloomberg has been after our gun laws here in Virginia for quite some time. It's our fault that there are dirtbags in NYC. If only we'd ban guns down here, there's be no crime up there.

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Mon, 03/12/2012 - 10:18am.

Disregarding all the personal views (negative and positive) in this post about Christie, it's Bloomberg that screwed the pooch here. Christie has every right to slam MOTUS (Mayor Of The U.S.) Bloomberg. This arrogant bastard CONSTANTLY oversteps his boundaries (the city of NY), thinking he's the ultimate go-to mayor for everything and that he speaks for every mayor in the country. If he was going to have his cops operating in NJ, he should have spoken with Christie first. Period.

As for this supposed SEAL, if he wants respect, he needs to give respect. If he wants to spout off like a partisan hack, he deserves to be treated as such. I'd like to know: 1. Was he really a SEAL? 2. How long was he in the navy? 3. Why is he no longer in the navy? One thing the military, ESPECIALLY SpecOps, teaches, is discipline and respect. He showed neither in his partisan heckling.

Finally, IMO, ANY military member who supports democrats has serious issues. The democrats historically and traditionally hammer the military at every opportunity, target the military for budget cuts on a regular basis, disrespect the military as a whole, get us into wars time and again, thus sacrificing our military members, and sometimes even show open despite for military and servicemembers.

I am only addressing NYPD's

Submitted by Gat New York on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 11:13am.

I am only addressing NYPD's counter terrorism unit surveilling Muslims in places other than must New York City including overseas cities. Every police deprtment and government know they have been doing it and that includes the U.S. federal government. They have been doing this for over 10 years and long before

Christie shot his mouth off. Bloomberg did not owe him anything. Christie just saw this as a press opp moment to once again ingratiate himself to Muslims in his state. He obviously cares less about the threat of terror attacks.

Where does NYC get that authority from? Besides past precedent. I'm curious because it scares me to think that NYC has that legitimate authority.

I care about terror attacks, but I also care about the rule of law.

As far as I know

NYPD has no jurisdiction outside the 5 Burroughs. What's next, are they going to make arrests in other states now? Sounds a bit like a secret police. Do they have Stasi stenciled on their badges?

Maybe Bloomy should be investigated for misuse of his authority.

Well then you better also

Submitted by Gat New York on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 3:54pm.

Well then you better also investigate Giuliani because that is where it started.

This has been going on for 10 years. So why the uproar now?

NYPD has done this for that time with the knowledge of other departments.

Christie is just a left wing blowhard who saw this as a press opportunity and like I said he wants to suck up to his Muslim community.

So which is it? You in favor of a war on terror or are you a part of the Obama appeasement squad?

Submitted by Radical1979 on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 4:27pm.

I don't care who started it, it needs to stop.

It's far from appeasement to expect law enforcement to follow the law. This is probably what leads Bloomberg to think he can also start investigating the gun laws and their enforcement in other states.

It's wrong, no matter who does it.

Submitted by stratman on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 2:00pm.

Christie earlier disqualified himself from the Presidency when he refused to sign on in support with other Governors attempting to repel ObamaCare from their states. It would have cost New Jersey little to nothing and would have been the right thing to do with the unconstitutional excrement Obama has foisted on the country.

To clarify: Christie is not even Mitt Romney against ObamaCare.

Navy Seal? Big deal! Does that give you any more rights than anyone else? I didn't think so. You act like an idiot, you're going to be called an idiot.
What do you do, use that line in bars for free drinks? Pathetic. Quit bugging any governor and I am pretty sure you won't be called names. I know for a fact UDT training didn't include "how to be disrespectful" you have concocted that on your own.
Talk about thin skinned. When the rest of your team finds out how you're being such a baby they will knock the hell out of you, and they should. You were the cry baby of that team, weren't you? No one listening to all your gripes. I don't know how they put up with you. They probably didn't, they just avoided you, didn't they? LOL What a wuss.

Big Mouth

Submitted by Jersey Girl on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 9:24am.

Too bad Christie's big mouth got in the way of him discussing the history of Rowan, previously known as Glassboro College.

Glassboro was the site of the LBJ/Kosygin Summit and President Reagan was the first sitting president to speak at commencement.

A teachable moment turned into another bully-ing moment for Christie.

He was elected because he wasn't Corzine. He has a lot to learn when it comes to dignity if he wants re-election.

I know it's a minor detail

Submitted by Tugboat Phil on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 11:24am.

But SEALs don't usually call themselves "Navy SEALs." It would be like a Green Beret calling himself an "Army Green Beret." I've only known a few SEALs and they were for the most part tight lipped, take care of business, kind of guys. However, as was already mentioned....Jesse Ventura.

Something doesn't seem right about this. If he was what he says, then thanks for your service. As has been stated above, it doesn't earn you the right to be an azz in public.

However, if he's a poser, I wouldn't want to be him when some real Team guys meet him.

Hay, squiddie, you claim that you have "honorably served," but you seemed to have forgotten just what that honor involves, like RESPECT for civilian authority! You don't interrupt any civilian authority while they're speaking, EVER! You're taught, in basic training, no less, to respect authority, even civilian authority, and that you keep your mouth SHUT whenever someone in authority is speaking!

As for your faux indignation at being called an "idiot," do what any SEAL would do: suck it up! You were called a lot worse than that during training, I guarantee it!
