ABC's Whoopi Goldberg: 'Bonehead' Bachmann Is 'Not Presidential Material'
On Tuesday's The View on ABC, as the group discussed GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann's appearance on Monday's Night's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC, after playing a clip of the Minnesota Congresswoman and Fallon playing a comical game of word association, ABC co-host Whoopi Goldberg declared that "bonehead" is the word she would associate with Bachmann, while co-host Barbara Walters declined to say what word first comes to her mind.
After the clip in which Bachmann used the word "oops" to make fun of fellow GOP candidate Rick Perry, The View co-host Joy Behar took at jab at the Minnesota Congresswoman. Behar: "She says 'oops' for Rick Perry? Her entire career is 'oops.'"
Co-host Sherri Shepherd soon tried to coax Walters into divulging what word first comes to her mind when she hears Bachmann's name, as Behar injected the word "oops."
After Walters declined to comment, Goldberg jumped in: "Bonehead. That's what I would say. ... Listen, I'm sorry. She looks fantastic, I have to say. She's gorgeous. But she's not presidential material. I'm sorry, she's not. I'm just saying."
Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Tuesday, November 22, The View on ABC:

In the Iowa debates last Saturday, each candidate was asked to tell how their American experience was unique.
When Bachmann was a young girl, her parents divorced. Her mother immediately downsized, which included selling off all of the family things, home, "heirlooms", furniture, china, etc. in order to survive on her vastly reduced income. She DIDN'T take welfare. If you think about that, it must have had quite an impact on young Michele Bachmann.
I am quite impressed with Rep. Bachmann. The press has succeeded in Palinizing her, painting her to be a kook....and Whoopsi is so stoopid she buys it. I bet she's never spent an hour listening to Bachmann express herself. Bachmann is a smart, smart woman.
I'd like to see Bachmann as House Majority Whip as soon as we have an (R) president and more Tea Party republicans in the House. She is hugely conversant with ObamaCare, and IMO, should be the one to be in charge of dismantling it. Or perhaps she'd make a wonderful Sec'y of HHS, replacing Sebilius and dismantling O-Care from that chair.

The sad thing is these hags (and SNL and the Daily Show) have some degree of cultural currency in how the GOP candidates are perceived, and it's difficult to undo these misconceptions.
I mean, to what degree is Bachmann not a serious candidate. Any fair-minded person who pays attention to these things knows that Goldberg's statement is nonsensical gibberish, but there's no one there to call her out on it, no one there to balance it out or fact-check her, and there's no watchdog (other than Newsbusters) to hold her accountable.
