NBC's Mitchell Gushes Over Michelle Obama As 'Not So Secret Political Weapon'

By Brad Wilmouth | October 20, 2011 | 08:11

A  A

On Wednesday's NBC Nightly News, correspondent Andrea Mitchell filed a report in which she gushed over First Lady Michelle Obama's campaign skills, dubbing her as President Obama's "not so secret political weapon."

Mitchell recounted the First Lady's campaign appearance from earlier in the day:

On the White House jobs tour today, Michelle Obama is on message, announcing 25,000 private sector jobs for veterans and military spouses over the next two years. As the campaign gains speed, the First Lady is gearing up.

Soon came a clip of the Daily Beast's Tina Brown chiming in:

Michelle Obama really brings a warmth, a personal connection, a kind of strong womanly human connection that, you know, Obama, her husband, just cannot really seem to get.

After asserting that the First Lady had been reluctant to campaign in 2008, the NBC correspondent added:

That was then. Now she's everywhere, painting houses for military families, fighting childhood obesity, today picking pumpkins, and, above all, avoiding controversy, focusing on issues with broad appeal. So, as the economy  takes a toll on her husband's polls, hers remain sky high.

After a clip of Michelle Obama at a campaign rally, Mitchell concluded: "And Michelle Obama is just getting started."

Below is a complete transcript of the report from the Wednesday, October 19, NBC Nightly News:

BRIAN WILLIAMS: President Obama continued his jobs-promoting bus tour today. He was joined today by the First Lady, which, we have noticed, is happening a lot lately. Our report tonight from NBC's Andrea Mitchell.

MICHELLE OBAMA: This is nice day. It's good to see you. You're looking good.

ANDREA MITCHELL: On a military base in Virginia, Barack Obama's not so secret political weapon.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: How lucky am I to be married to Michelle Obama?

MITCHELL: On the White House jobs tour today, Michelle Obama is on message, announcing 25,000 private sector jobs for veterans and military spouses over the next two years. As the campaign gains speed, the First Lady is gearing up.

MICHELLE OBAMA: And I hope that all of you are fired up.

MITCHELL: She's raising millions, and, if he sometimes seems aloof, she is anything but.

MICHELLE OBAMA CLIP #1: I would like to thank all of you for planning such a lovely, intimate evening for the two of us.

(AUDIENCE LAUGHTER)

MICHELLE OBAMA CLIP #2: Who knows what will happen?

TINA BROWN, NEWSWEEK/THE DAILY BEAST: Michelle Obama really brings a warmth, a personal connection, a kind of strong womanly human connection that, you know, Obama, her husband, just cannot really seem to get.

MITCHELL: It's a transformation for a political spouse who was at first a reluctant campaigner and spent much of her first White House year focused on her children.

MICHELLE OBAMA: When Barack Obama started talking about running for President, I wasn't enthusiastic about the idea.

MITCHELL: That was then. Now she's everywhere, painting houses for military families, fighting childhood obesity, today picking pumpkins, and, above all, avoiding controversy, focusing on issues with broad appeal. So, as the economy  takes a toll on her husband's polls, hers remain sky high.

ANITA MCBRIDE, FORMER LAURA BUSH CHIEF OF STAFF: She's willing to go out there, much more comfortable than she was in 2008.

MICHELLE OBAMA IN FRONT OF APPLAUDING CROWD: Do you have his back? Are you fired up? Are you ready to go?

MITCHELL: And Michelle Obama is just getting started. Andrea Mitchell, NBC News, Washington.

Moochelle is not an attractive person

Submitted by ohio granny on Thu, 10/20/2011 - 8:28am.

Michelle Obama is not an attractive person. Not in looks or manner. Just like her husband, she is a user. She likes to use taxpayer money for exotic vacations for herself and her family. According to some reports, the amounts are in the millions.

She is only an asset to fools and idiots like Andrea Mitchell. For the rest of us she is just an abuser of the taxpayers. The sooner these people are out of office, the better for all of us, even Andrea Mitchell.

Her venues are limited.

Submitted by NeoKong on Thu, 10/20/2011 - 8:50am.

She can campaign in front of military families because she knows they will always be polite to the First Lady. She can always go in front of school children because they love it when anyone visits them and it is really a campaign stop for the Teacher's Union.

Let her try speaking before the Chamber of Commerce and tell them how wonderful things are with her husband's administration.
Let her speak in front of the Small Business Administration, the NRA, the farmers in the Central Valley, the Arizona Conference of Police and Sheriffs or the Border Patrol.
She can't go to those places. She can only campaign in front of audiences that are already locked in.

To be fair, Neo, those venues have always been the chosen ones for First Ladies.  No one expects a FLOTUS to go out and give policy speeches.

Didn't I see a story here at NB a few weeks ago, in which the MSM declared that anytime a campaign trots out the candidate's spouse, that's a sure sign the campaign is in deep trouble?

Of course, it was in reference to Republican campaigns.

You can't say cotton-pickin' any more.

And of course neither Obama nor his wife are 'campaigning.'   Remember, he said there was plenty of time for campaigning in 2012.

I have laughed at the liberal commentators who talk about Obama, "as he is out on the....uh...trail" (Chisum or Oregon).  ;-)

Mrs. Greenspan, always the faithful radical liberal propagandist, has a personal responsibility to shill for the Obamas, and Mrs Obama in particular We all remember when on June 5, 2008, she referred, on air, to the citizens of southwest Virginia as "rednecks". That's the kind of gal she is.

If Andrea and her cadre of closeted liberals think that Michelle is a secret weapon, then Republicans are in good shape. This sort of disillusionment shows the weaknesses in liberal thinking. Michelle may be of some influence in downtown Washington or LA, but she has no influence in the fly over states. I don't know of many voters who even recognize her as part of the BarryO campaign. She's more or less seen as a dietician who needs to be on a diet, and the spokesperson for the I hate America and I hate white people crowd.

Call your cable or satellite company and demand that they remove CNN, MSNBC, and MTV from your entertainment package.  Stop subsidizing the liberal left.

'For the FIRST time in my life...!'

Submitted by Slyrr on Thu, 10/20/2011 - 10:07am.

Every political cartoon depicting Obama should have a caricature of Mooch-elle tucked in the corner, screeching, 'For the FIRST time in my life, I'm actually proud to be an American!'

That pretty much wraps up this foul woman in a nutshell. For her entire life, she's hated America. She's despised it, bad-mouthed it, insulted it, resented it, wanted to trash it and wreck it.

Only when her do-nothing husband was nominated for President was she suddenly 'proud' of her country.

Now she's stuffing her face with steaks, burgers, fries and bon-bons, ransacking taxpayer money for her own greed and lust for riches, going on lavish junkets and vacations which she calls 'goodwill tours' and 'state visits', all using our tax dollars and lying about it. And even while fighting to make her muffled voice articulate through another mouthful of burgers, she's still screaming while glutting herself on our money in the midst of the Obama Depression: 'For the first time in my life I'm actually PROUD to be an American!'

She should call them what she really thinks they are - 'reparations'. Stealing money from white people who never did a thing to hurt her or her family - who she now robs and plunders to make up for percieved injustices from an unreachable past that never affected her in the slightest.

But she's gotten caught with her hand in the cookie jar too many times. Her African shopping spree, where she dragged along her kids and lied, calling them 'senior staff', was yet another black eye. She's binged too blatently and visibly. So they had to dress her up in 'commoner' outfits and send her to Target to do some shopping (also using our money), to prove that she can tolerate being among 'the little people'. And that silly photo of her painting? I guarantee once the cameras had been safely put away, she threw down that roller and stormed off for the nearest luxury spa.

The sooner this odious couple are cast out of power the better.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Just tool on over to MOTUS.

Here's a nice piece.  All about Mrs. O on the campagin trail.

I notice Andrea didn't bother to mention Moo's August make-over....remember, she went missing for quite a while and turned up all smoothed out (*BoTox*) and with a much slimmer nose. Chin looks different too, but I can't quite figure out what she had done.

Wouldn't one think the first lady having some plastic surgery would be a news worthy item, Andrea?  Oh, never mind.  I know it's nothing new for you, Andrea, old hat, been there, done that a thousand times, haven't you old girl?

it was an article by Guy Benson and I believe the original was posted at Townhall.

A few good ones:

The choice to include two provisions -- 1099 reform and the CLASS Act -- in your unpopular healthcare bill that are so unaffordable and unworkable that your own administration has since abandoned them.
The choice of your Justice Department to file a lawsuit to overturn a small North Carolina town's democratically-enacted decision to eliminate party identifications from municipal election ballots, arguing that African-Americans need "D" and "R" labels to determine whom to support.
The choice to attempt to freeze out a legitimate news organization you viewed as inconveniently adversarial, a ploy that enraged the entire press corps.
The choice to sit idly by while anti-American dictators ranted against our country, later expressing gratitude that they didn't blame you, specifically, for events that occurred when you were very young.
The choice to compare AIG executives to suicide bombers for receiving bonuses that your own administration wrote into the 2009 stimulus bill.
The choice to lie about what scientific experts said, in order to pursue your anti-offshore drilling agenda.
The choice of your State Department to extend "condolences" to the family of a terrorist killed in a US strike.

Well, no wonder Michelle wasn't enthusiastic about Obama running

Submitted by Gary Hall on Thu, 10/20/2011 - 12:31pm.

  • MICHELLE OBAMA: When Barack Obama started talking about running for President, I wasn't enthusiastic about the idea.

After all, he'd told the media, he wasn't qualified yet, and she'd told the media that he couldn't run for POTUS, because he hadn't done anything yet.

Then, there was that bit about her never loving her country before - yep, that's a tough spot to be in for a potential First Lady of the US; "Hi, my name is Michelle Obama, and I'm the first First Lady who don't love her country."

Then, there was the real issue at hand; she'd have to quit her once plush job at Chicago Medical Center, where once she served as executive director at the hospital, making $316,962 (in 2004), and quit her position on the board of TreeHouse Foods, were she earned just north of $50K. Hmm - a corporate board member of a corporation which was a big vendor of WalMart corporation.  Hello Occupy Wall Streeters!

Also interesting, is that she, Hilary Clinton and Laura Bush, according to one source, are the only three First Lady's to have a Masters Degree (interesting - 3 in a row.)

Hmm - Laura Bush? I wonder if Andrea Mitchell knew who she was for 8 years?

They (MSM) were just a wee bit hard-pressed to find much air time for here, were they not?

I do feel sorry for Barry sometimes, I mean, he has to wake up to that every morning, good grief!

Guess what you trogs called MSM, it is going to happen again, you are going to wonder what the hell happened come next November, you will wring your hands, say how could this have happened, we did not see it coming, but come it will, and I for one will call you out whenever I see you in an airport. You do not get, you never did, you never will, but when it runs over you, you will recognize it as oh my, 2010 was a picnic compared to this butt drubbing this narrcistic little pimple on history is going to take in 2012. I see a 49 to 1 drubbing coming, may be 49-2, how can you explain Illinois and California, well one way is to compare their debt to the FED's. All three chief execs are stupid.
