CBS Team Amused by Pie Attack on Rupert Murdoch, ‘Getting a Taste of Humble Pie’
Tuesday’s CBS Evening News poked fun at 80-year-old Rupert Murdoch being nearly hit by a pie as the show led with the News Corp founder’s appearance in front of the British parliament to discuss the News of the World phone hacking scandal. During the opening teaser, after playing a clip of Murdoch exclaiming that "This is the most humble day of my life," Schieffer made a quip about "humble pie." Schieffer: "Elizabeth Palmer and Anthony Mason on the News Corp chief getting a taste of humble pie."
After Schieffer opened the show recounting the Murdoch story and introduced correspondents Elizabeth Palmer and Anthony Mason, Mason could be seen with a big grin, presumably in response to the CBS anchor’s opening. Schieffer summed up the day’s events:
Rupert Murdoch called it the most humbling day of his life, and he said he was sorry, but it wasn't his fault and he wasn't resigning. Then someone hit him with a cream pie. That about summed up the parliamentary hearing into the police bribery and phone hacking scandal involving one of Murdoch's British newspapers.
Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Tuesday, July 19, CBS Evening News :
BOB SCHIEFFER, IN OPENING TEASER: Tonight, Rupert Murdoch on the hot seat.
RUPERT MURDOCH, NEWS CORPORATION: This is the most humble day of my life.
SCHIEFFER: Then, things got worse. (CLIP OF MAN WITH PIE GOING AFTER MURDOCH) Elizabeth Palmer and Anthony Mason on the News Corp chief getting a taste of humble pie.
..
SCHIEFFER: And good evening. Scott's off tonight, I'm Bob Schieffer. Well, Rupert Murdoch called it the most humbling day of his life, and he said he was sorry, but it wasn't his fault and he wasn't resigning. Then someone hit him with a cream pie. That about summed up the parliamentary hearing into the police bribery and phone hacking scandal involving one of Murdoch's British newspapers. We have two reports tonight from London. First, Elizabeth Palmer. Liz?

How amused would they be if it happened to them?

This is just one more reason not to watch network news, unless you are a liberal of course.

Well CBS didn't find any humor when someone pulled a similar stunt on Tom Cruise.
I don't find any mention or innuendo of the incident being something to giggle about in the CBS website article on it, despite calling the perpetrators "pranksters."

No fan of Rupert but the left MSM and the nuts on cable who loved Julian Assange just think that Rupert is a candidate for capital punishment. They would have to get by Wendi first and I don't think they could handle her. Hey the woman stands by her man.

A screaming protester gets some spittle on a congressman and the media spends a month on the story claiming everything from racism to assault. This event, why it is just a funny little thing that Murdock deserved anyway. Republicans can Conservatives are in a war with the media and losing.
And how amused would they be...

if the person behind the mic was a liberal and the attacker had a gun?
The liberal media constantly and continually measure the event based on the outcome and the result, not the potential and the overall ramifications.
The liberal media see Rupert Murdoch (who they hate) getting hit with some "whipped cream".
I see that the British Parlaiment has increadibly lax security and it took a spectator (Mrs. Murdoch) to intervene and stop a potential life-threatening situation.

You know what's even more amusing? The Fox News Channel is still going to be kicking liberal, MSM butts despite all that has transpired recently.

Once again, Fox contributor

Once again, Fox contributor Michelle Malkin weighs in:
"Heads are rolling in the News of the World hacking scandal aftermath. As they should be.
Several editors and London police officials have resigned. More are undoubtedly on the way. A former NoTW reporter-turned-whisteblower who suffered from drug and alcohol addictions has now tragically turned up dead — compounding a global media tragedy that has shaken countless murder victims’ families, terror victims’ families, celebrities, and politicians whose cell phones were allegedly illegally rifled through in pursuit of salacious gossip and tabloid fodder. …
As a proud Fox News contributor for the past 10 years, I have come to News Corp.’s defense countless times and will continue to do so when critics distort the facts and wage unfair attacks.
This is not one of those times. There is no defense for this godawful fiasco. …
Hacking is a serious crime and grave privacy invasion. PERIOD.
Yes, it is painful to see a great media champion/entrepreneur and a great media empire — of which NoTW was just a tiny sliver — under fire. The glee and double standards of News Corp. haters on both sides of the pond are hard to stomach.
But there is no one to blame for this other than those in News Corp. who let the scandal fester, and whose inaction handed critics all the ammunition they are firing now. These are the lumps and now every single rank-and-file employee and contributor at News Corp. is being forced to suffer them."

Nothing like a cut and paste post from the nastiest troll here. You don't have to read anything Michelle Malkin posts. Just wait for a troll to cut and paste the same thing over and over.

mob mentality, especially in the media. FOX in the archenemy of the liberal press and only a fool would believe that they're not going to remain directly in MSM's crosshairs for a long time. Murdoch is a catalyst for stepping up the attacks. Anything that liberals can jump on, they will. And we can expect to hear the peanut gallery in the White House chirping about it as well, very soon. But if I were in the MSM or the White House, I wouldn't cackle too loudly as one never knows where investigations of this size and scope may ultimately lead. Stranger things have happened.

A man walked into the British Parliament Building. He then walked into a parliamentary hearing room. The hearing room had a high-profile hearing going on. The hearing had a very high-profile witness testifying. He walked into the hearing room with a pie plate filled with shaving cream. He got to within inches of the witness. He was stopped, not by security, but by the witness' wife. Obviously, someone helped him ... specifically, so that it would appear on the evening news and embarrass the witness. I'm waiting to see CBS' investigation on how the guy beat the Brits' security and got there to begin with ... I suppose I'll have a long wait.
Would those that helped him have still thought it was so funny if the guy would have had a gun hidden in the shaving cream? It's not an unrealistic concern ... guys like this and the Code Pink morons are clearly not the most mentally stable people around.
Yeah, it's an inside job

Those members of the parliament should be very ashamed about something like that happening. And the person in charge of security should be fired and even fined and jailed for allowing something so egregious to happen.

FROM THE DESK OF F. VENGENCE FLOOK:
I wrote this Monday night so it has lost some of its zip. Our liberal friends are worked into a frenzy HOPING this phone hacking scandal will bring down Rupert Murdock. (How many times did Brian Williams mention Rupert’s name in his last two “news” reports?) Let me tell you what this hubbub has caused me to do with my investments. I have, over the past few months, sold ALL of my stocks. I am assuming Obama will veto the Republicans’ final debt ceiling offer and will throw us into absolute financial crisis. Then I can buy stocks of good companies for very reasonable prices. But, this Murdoch deal may be an even better short-term opportunity. Someone said last night that News Corp’s (NWS) stock was down 30%. Let’s assume that is accurate. I’ll use make-believe numbers to so we can all do the math in our heads. NWS was selling for $10; now it is selling for $7. If I buy it at $7 and it goes back to $10, I have made 46%. ($3/$7) And, once Murdoch is cleared – as he will be – the stock will go back up and I will make my $46+%. Unless, of course, Obama has ruined the country. But, I’m a pig; I’ll wait for NWS to go even lower and make more than 50%. (WARNING, I AM NOT A FINANCIAL ADVISOR.)
Tues., PM – I watched Brian Williams again. I refuse to call what he does “news.” He spent even more time attacking Murdoch. Is Murdoch a conservative? Or do libs simply hate him because he owns FNC? And the attack on Murdoch’s wife!! No decent news person would have EVER done that! What has America come to?
Then the Michele Bachmann story regarding the migraines that will keep her from being president. Why try to hide the disgust you have for Rep. Bachmann, Brian? Why don’t you just say it the way you normally would when you are off the air, “When, Rep. Bachmann, did you stop hiring four swarthy guys to tie up your husband so you could force him to watch you have sex with those four swarthy guys”? (For those of you who did not notice, this is my variation of the “When did you stop beating your wife, Senator” story.
And FNC and MRC meekly point out how awful the MSM has become. And conservatives sit around and complain about how awful it is.
