NBC’s Engel Finds Muslim Brotherhood Is ‘Akin to Hamas,’ But Omits That Hamas Is Terrorist Group
On Tuesday’s NBC Nightly News, after anchor Brian Williams asked correspondent Richard Engel to respond to concerns about the radical nature of the Muslim Brotherhood that have been expressed by former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Engel asserted that the movement is "not al-Qaeda, it’s not the Taliban," but, as he went on to compare the group instead to Hamas, partly because they "wear business suits," he neglected to point out that Hamas is itself a terrorist organization.
He related that the organization is "anti-American, it’s anti-Israel, but it wouldn’t kick all the Christians out of this country."
When Williams brought up the Muslim Brotherhood, he posed the question: "And the Speaker (Gingrich) said that they were enemies of civilization. He said it’s in their own creed. I know for many years you lived and worked alongside members of the Muslim Brotherhood there in Cairo. Tell us your knowledge of this group."
Engel responded:
The group has about 20 to 40 percent support in the country. It’s not al-Qaeda, it’s not the Taliban. They do support Islamic law, but the people who are members of the Muslim Brotherhood wear business suits. It’s much more similar to, it’s much more akin to Hamas in the Gaza Strip. It’s anti-American, it’s anti-Israel, but it wouldn’t kick all the Christians out of this country, but it would definitely take a more anti-American line.
The NBC correspondent also did not mention that members of the Muslim Brotherhood had been implicated in the assassinations of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in 1981 or of the Egyptian prime minister in 1948.
Below is a complete transcript of the exchange from the Tuesday, February 8, NBC Nightly News :
BRIAN WILLIAMS: And, Richard, in this country last night, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, during an interview, was talking about the Muslim Brotherhood. You’ve been talking about them for days. It’s believed that any coalition government will have to contain a percentage of them. And the Speaker said that they were enemies of civilization. He said it’s in their own creed. I know for many years you lived and worked alongside members of the Muslim Brotherhood there in Cairo. Tell us your knowledge of this group.
RICHARD ENGEL: The group has about 20 to 40 percent support in the country.

"the people who are members of the Muslim Brotherhood wear business suits"....and with that, Engle steps back, takes his seat, and proudly rests his case.
Wow! What if Sarah Palin had made an argument like that?

NBC & MSNBC Memo: ATTACK GINGRICH NOW

Soft peddling the threat of the Muslim Brotherhood seems to be this week's vehicle to bash Gingrich. Apparently they've decided that Gingrich is a bigger threat to them lately. Their fear is palpable.
Verbally beating up your competition with baseless attacks shows weakness and a lack of character and has nothing to do with journalism.
If the Brotherhood takes

If the Brotherhood takes control of Egypt then we can look forward to closing Israeli borders and a Palestinian mentality. Perhaps not immediately but certainly very soon, perhaps just in time for a real President of the USA to be elected like Sarah Palin.
Business suits??

That's how they justify not calling them terrorists?
Um, someone should tell these yokels that the 9/11 pilots came from wealthy families. The Christmas undie-would-be bomber's also from a wealthy family. I'm sure they wore business suits too.

eventually you will end up with a second Iran
Will it happen?

The more I learn about the Egyptian military, the more calmer I get about the situation over in Egypt. But it still bears watching. I'm almost 100% positive that they won't let things go the way of the Brotherhood or turn into a new Iran even if they have some seats on some council or whatever. They know what's at stake.
If they get a second Iran, it won't be easy and they'd have to go through the military to get it.

The Brothers, from what I

The Brothers, from what I hear, have 20% of the seats in the legislature. Perhaps the new government will not be taken over by the Brothers yet, but Islam is patient.
They ARE patient

They are extremely patient. That's how after the first attempt to blow up the WTC in 1993, they bided their time and planned carefully until their next attempt, which was successful, came in 2001.
This is one of the things that make them very dangerous. Plotting death can not be rushed, especially if they want to do it on a large scale.(that's not counting the allegedly individuals who made attempts like the SUV in New York that was blamed on rednecks by Blooming Idiot)

For the first time in years,

For the first time in years, I caught 5 minutes of a network evening newscast, and it was this.
I heard the bit about the Muslim Brotherhood in business suits, and that was my fill for another few years. It didn't take long.
