CBS Evening News Skips Liberal Label of Huffington Post

By Brad Wilmouth | February 07, 2011 | 22:49

On Monday’s CBS Evening News, as anchor Katie Couric read a short item on AOL’s purchase of the left-wing Huffington Post Web site, she neglected to mention the ideological lean of the Web site as she merely called it "one of the leading news Web sites."

NBC’s Brian Williams did tag the Web site as "liberal" as he also read a an item on the acquisition. Williams: "A big payday for Arianna Huffington as AOL becomes the new owner of Huffington Post, the liberal Web site she created six years ago."

ABC’s World News, which devoted much of its program to anchor Diane Sawyer’s interview with former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, did not mention the deal.

By contrast, as previously documented by NewsBusters, it was NBC’s Today show which ealrier in the day neglected to use an ideological label to describe the Huffington Post while ABC’s Good Morning America and CBS’s The Early Show did note the Web site’s liberal lean.

Below are complete transcripts of the items read on both the CBS Evening News and the NBC Nightly News from Monday, February 7:

#From the CBS Evening News:

KATIE COURIC: In other business news, AOL’s got the Huffington Post. As AOL tries again to reinvent itself in the post-dial-up era, it announced today it will pay $315 million for one of the leading news Web sites. AOL is hoping to pick up post readers and boost ad revenue. Post founder Arianna Huffington will take control of AOL’s editorial content.

#From the NBC Nightly News:

BRIAN WILLIAMS: A big payday for Arianna Huffington as AOL becomes the new owner of Huffington Post, the liberal Web site she created six years ago. It’s now a sprawling online media property with over 20 separate sections. Purchase price, $315 million. The deal puts Huffington in charge of all AOL’s editorial properties on the Web. AOL, one of the Web trail blazers, has been struggling of late in the Google era.

To be fair, Couric was being

Submitted by gopsteve on Mon, 02/07/2011 - 11:34pm.

To be fair, Couric was being honest. In Couric's mind, the HuffPo is just a middle of the road, centrist "leading news web site."

I think it was Bernie Goldberg who said it best, to paraphrase...These libs in the media hang out with so many like minded left leaning people, they start thinking that they are the center.

He tells of a story that when Nixon won in a 49 state landslide, some dimwitted elitist was so shocked because she didn't "know anyone who voted for Nixon."

That is our Katie!

Liberals and 'The Rich'

Submitted by Slyrr on Tue, 02/08/2011 - 11:04am.

Someone must take Ms. Huffnpuff to task on this.  She's a liberal.  Yet she's reported to be 'ecstatic' that she has personally pocketed nearly $20 million bucks from this deal.

Check it:  Liberals, for decades, have been railing against 'the rich'.  The rich are evil. They are heartless, greedy monsters who drink the blood of the poor and feast on their flesh.  The rich are demons from the pits of hell, and liberals have screamed, screeched and frothed that 'the rich' must be punished.  The rich must be forced by the government, at the point of a bayonet, to pay tyrannical taxes as punishment for having all that money.  Liberals say 'the rich' don't need all that money - that they should be glad to pay sky-high taxes and be shackled with laws to punish them.

Well - Ms. Huffnpuff is now one of 'the rich'.

If she is a true liberal, if she REALLY believes all the garbage she and her like minded friends have been vomiting from their foul mouths all these years - then her path is clear.

She must give away all this money to the federal government.  Every penny of this $18 mil she got from the deal she must now immediately surrender to the Feds.  After all - she's rich.  She doesn't 'need' that money.  She's part of the problem - she IS 'the rich'.  Instead of being ecstatic about having all this money, she should be filled with loathing and hatred for herself.  This money is, after all, something to be despised.  And it's not hers really - she should be eager and glad to give it away to the government so that the goverment can use it to do.... whatever it is that they do.

So Ms. Huffnpuff:  You want to be a good little liberal woman?  You want to be a leader?  Lead by example.  Give away all that money.  Every penny.  Write out one lump sum check to the IRS and send it to them with a note that says, 'I, Arianna Huffington, am sorry that I earned this money. I have no right to it, and to keep myself from being rich I hereby surrender it to the government - who are the rightful owners.'

Then to the right liberal thing and go live in a mud hut or a wigwam, and eat nothing but grass and tree bark.  After all, you don't need mansions or limos or any of that stuff.  It's evil too, right?  Carbon footprints and global warming and all that, right?  You want to be part of the solution, don't you?  To be a good little liberal who lives by all that liberal religious dogma?  You want to prove that those aren't just empty words you've been vomiting, don't you?

Give it away, Ms Huffington - every penny.  Otherwise, you're a hypocrite and you have no right to tell anyone else what they 'should do' with their money.  And you have no right to influence lawmakers either.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.
