Wolf Blitzer Cracks: Palin Will Provide ‘A Lot of Material’ to Comedian Craig Ferguson

  • Bookmark and Share

On Wednesday night’s Late Late Show on CBS, when host Craig Ferguson asked guest Wolf Blitzer of CNN’s The Situation Room if he thought Sarah Palin is "gone" now, Blitzer cracked that Palin would provide Ferguson with "a lot of material" as she will still be active publicly. After the two were talking about whether the CNN anchor sometimes finds something "really funny" while he is doing the news, Ferguson cracked that the former Alaska governor is "quite funny," evoking audience laughter, and asked about her future. Ferguson: "Hey, what about Sarah Palin, talking about "quite funny"? Do you think she's gone? Do you think that's it?"

Blitzer responded: "No, she’s not gone. We’ll be seeing a lot of her. She’s going to be writing a book. She’ll be doing speeches. She’ll be on TV. You’re going to have a lot of material. ... If you need material, you’ll have it."

Below is a complete transcript of the discussion of Palin between Blitzer and Ferguson from the Wednesday, August 5, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on CBS:

CRAIG FERGUSON: Do you ever get the giggles on the news? [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER] Do you ever like the story and go, "Oh, God, this is just stupid"?

WOLF BLITZER: Sometimes it gets really funny, yeah, yeah, sometimes. Not often. Mostly serious.

FERGUSON: Hey, what about Sarah Palin, talking about "quite funny"? [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER] Do you think she’s gone? Do you think that’s it?

BLITZER: No, she’s not gone. We’ll be seeing a lot of her. She’s going to be writing a book. She’ll be doing speeches. She’ll be on TV. You’re going to have a lot of material.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHTER AND APPLAUSE]

FERGUSON: It’s reassuring.

BLITZER: Yeah.

FERGUSON: It’s certainly reassuring.

BLITZER: If you need material, you’ll have it.

FERGUSON: Oh, I need more than material, but material would be a place to start. Yeah, it would be lovely. Yeah. So you think she’s going to do all that, you think she’s going to run for office again?

BLITZER: She might. She’s still only, what, 44 or 45 years old?

FERGUSON: I would never comment on a lady’s age.

BLITZER: Yeah. She’s still young. She’s got many years ahead of her. I wouldn’t rule it out.

FERGUSON: What about Alaska? She’s out of, she’s done with Alaska, isn’t she?

BLITZER: No, she’s not done with Alaska. No, she was governor. I don’t think she’s going to run again in Alaska, but you never know.

FERGUSON: She didn’t even finish the first time.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]

BLITZER: You never say never. No, she didn’t finish, yeah.

   BLITZER: Yeah. She’s

BLITZER: Yeah. She’s still young. She’s got many years ahead of her. I wouldn’t rule it out.

You betcha.  And She probably has more years ahead of her than many of the 'professional journalists' who attack her.

Craig

I used to love Craig - even laughed when Palin sent him a video making him an honorary citizen of Alaska when Craig was waiting for his INS interview.  Then, he drank the Letterman kool aid and joined the boss in smearing Palin.  It was so sad.  I stopped watching him during the election campaign and have not restarted.  It's a shame because the man is absolutely funny.  I just can't stand the smearing.  Palin, and her family, don't deserve it.

It just proves how much the left terrified of her.  They smear her so we forget that she is an expert on energy plus has made connections with the diplomats of several countries - including Russia, Twaiwan and China - as governor of Alaska.

Lindamae.....I don't watch late night television, so I wasn't

very familiar with Craig Ferguson. I had heard or read that he was a liberal, and it was confirmed when I found a New York Times interview where he called himself a "left-wing-thinking individual."

But I also came across this video of one of his show's monologues recorded just prior to this past presidential election. In this monologue, Ferguson comes across as surprisingly fair and balanced.

He not only criticized both candidates, Obama and McCain, as well as Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, but Ferguson had some harsh words for the media.

From your comments it appears that the monologue I watched that seemed fair and balanced was not representative of his usual schtik.

He was the "headliner" of

He was the "headliner" of that National Press Club dinner a few years ago (the one that wanda sykes recently bombed) - and his commentary was really funny, and fair for the most part

there is a certain amount of respect I feel he should get because he is a famous scot making every effort to become an American because he loves this country - how many of OUR celebrities who were born here and don't realize that is like winning lifes lottery hate this country?

I hate the New York Times more than it hates the US Military

You're correct

You're correct that the left is terrified of Sarah Palin.  All the attacks on her are personal and superficial.  When Palin really gets rolling and takes off the gloves, she will be unstoppable.

What's in a name?

Hi-frickin'-larious coming from a guy named "Wolf Blitzer". Yet another self-absorbed, pompous ass. There's an unlimited supply of yucks if comedians had the balls to tackle the droolers of the msm.

Yuck Yuck!

Ferguson needs to get viewers, as does Blitzer & neither of them are doing much to get them.  Blitzer is just living in the past and his garbage is virtually ignored by anyone with the brain of a pea!

Funny you should mention ...

No discussion of the scores of gaffe's and all that comedic material generated by President Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Harry Reid, and the usual cast of characters?

The lead poisoning from Michelle's garden?

Terrorists being sent to Bermuda?

Spending your way out of bankruptcy?

Black Panthers at polling places getting a pass.

That $200 million for new jets for Nancy Pelosi.

Al Franken in the Senate?

Etc., etc., etc.?

Now isn't that funny?

Go Ahead, Yuck It Up

Take cheap shots at someone you know nothing about, except for left-wing spin.  She's got more class than you numbnutz will ever have.  I wish Sarah well, in whatever path she takes.  She's earned a rest from morons like these.

Wolf Blitzer is old news.

He is so 1990's. Now CNN is in last place in cable news thanks to him.

The idea of Wolf Blitzer

The idea of Wolf Blitzer poking fun at anyone and implying that they are joke material is too funny for words.

And I don't mean just because of his name.

wolf in sheep's clothing

What gets tome is the way Blitzer tries to appear impartial.  I don't watch CNN but on occasion have seen Blitzer's blurbs on this site and Youtube.  He more than other liberal announcers attempts to hide his liberal mein by pretending to be fair.  This comment demonstrates where his sympathies really lay.  You might not even notice his liberalism if you weren't given a headsup by websites like the MRC that give us all qwarnings about the lies and twisted thinking of the far left.  And, even though these pretenders try to hide, their bias has been exposed which has further led to the deterioration of their viewing audience and to their credibility.  I continue to wonder when it will all end.  When will the viewing audience become so small that advertisers don't support them anymore?

"when it will all

"when it will all end."

This is what really bugs me.  If these liberal msm outlets are doing so poorly in terms of ratings, how do they continue to survive? Why are advertisers still spending money to promote their products and services on these networks if there is no audience?  Commercial revenues have to be down, so who or what is making up the deficit?  Something stinks here.

satellite and cable

One of the ways CNN and MSNBC can survive is by the money they receive from the satellite and cable people.  Think about it.  When you sign up for a particular package, you have to have the liberal outlets in order to get what you want.  You have to have CNN if you have FOX, for example.  You are also paying for MTV, BET, and VH1 which are all liberal outlets that promote the demise of American values and the birth of socialism.  Just for fun, call Direct TV or Dish Tv and tell them that you don't want CNN anymore and then listen to the load of crap they lay on you.  Better yet, tell them you want the Conservative Package which excludes BET, CNN, VH1, MTV, MSNBC.  They will tell you there is no such package, but insist that there is.  Tell them you heard about it on talk radio.  If you have Dish tell them Direct has it; if you have Direct tell them Dish has it.  Mess them up a little because they are sure not doing what their customers want them to do.

"..tell them that you want

"..tell them that you want the conservative package.."

Funny.

But, back to the main point. Even with the revenue from these "all or nothing" cable deals, isn't ad revenue still the biggest source of revenue for the individual nets?  Advertisers don't get an benefit from the cable deals, I wouldn't think, so again, if the ratings are down why would advertisers stay?

Re Ferguson

Ferguson is the late-night host that plays slowed-down videos of President George W. Bush's speeches and claims "the President has started drinking again". He used that tired schtick for years, yet Ferguson is a real drunk himself and a real a-hole. The fact that he has a TV newsreader for a guest is a sign of desperation. Unfortunately CBS can't think of anything better to do with such a lousy time slot.

He's the most liberal of the four or five late-night hosts, even more liberal than Letterman.
