CNN’s Begala: Tea Party Goers ‘Wimpy, Whiny, Weasels Who Don’t Love Their Country’

  • Bookmark and Share

On Friday’s Hannity show on FNC, host Sean Hannity played an audio clip of liberal CNN contributor Paul Begala as he was interviewed on the April 15 Imus in the Morning, in which Begala engaged in name-calling against Tax Day Tea Party participants: "Why are they out there whining with this Tea Party thing? Just a bunch of wimpy, whiny, weasels who don't love their country and don't want to support – there are guys at Walter Reed who gave their legs for my country, and they're whining because they have to write a check?" He went on to single out FNC’s Hannity and Neil Cavuto before Imus stepped in to defend them. Begala: "Mr. Cavuto, Mr. Hannity, all the rest of those guys, they have representation, they just lost an election – that's not tyranny, that's democracy." After Imus defended Cavuto and Hannity, and called Hannity a patriot, Begala shot back: "Then tell him to pay his taxes and support our country and stop whining about it."

After playing the clip, Hannity held a discussion with FNC’s Kimberly Guilfoyle and conservative columnist S.E. Cupp. Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Friday, April 17, Hannity show on FNC:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

SEAN HANNITY: And tonight in "Your America," now, for many Americans, the anti-tax Tea Parties, earlier this week, represented a great moment for our country in which people came together to have their voices heard, but the idea of uniting for a common cause, well, it doesn't seem to be sitting well with liberals like the CNN reporter who berated that man just for attending the Chicago tea party, or this guy, former Clinton hack, Paul Begala. He was on Imus. Listen to this.

PAUL BEGALA: Why are they out there whining with this Tea Party thing?

DON IMUS: I don’t – but because we're-

BEGALA: Just a bunch of wimpy, whiny, weasels-

IMUS: Now you're making me feel bad because-

BEGALA: -who don't love their country and don't want to support – there are guys at Walter Reed who gave their legs for my country, and they're whining because they have to write a check? Mr. Cavuto, Mr. Hannity, all the rest of those guys, they have representation, they just lost an election – that's not tyranny, that's democracy.

IMUS: I wouldn't put Neil Cavuto in that category, and Sean Hannity is one of the great patriots in the history of our country, one of the great Americans.

BEGALA: Then tell him to pay his taxes and support our country and stop whining about it.

HANNITY: Oh, okay, we're not paying enough. Sorry we have First Amendment rights here, Paul. And here with reaction to all of this, is Fox News’s Kimberly Guilfoyle and columnist S.E. Cupp. All right, "wimpy, whining, weasels." We don't – he said we don't love this country.

KIMBERLY GUILFOYLE: Right. It's outrageous, and I have to tell you it was a shining example of how wonderful the people are in this country, Americans that do pay their taxes that were civilized, it was very orderly, and they're allowed to have their voice and be heard.

HANNITY: You know, and I had said this one on Imus' show. I said, you know, Don, the reason they don't mind raising taxes, Democrats, is because they don't pay them, including tax cheat Geithner and a whole series of other, you know, Obama nominees.

S.E. CUPP, CONSERVATIVE COLUMNIST: Yeah, first of all, congrats to Paul Begala who managed to make Don Imus look restrained. You know, job well-done. I don't, what I don't understand is liberals love a good protest. You know, you get five Code Pink members, in a square mile of one other, and you better believe MSNBC will have someone on it, but when average Americans, non-Hollywood Americans, get together around a national cause, forget it, they're whiners. Stop whining, Sean.

HANNITY: Yeah, you know, look at this Jan Schakowsky, whatever he name is, this congresswoman that's calling it despicable and shameful. And I'm thinking did liberals ever listen to what they said during the Bush years and called him every name in the book, and they accused our troops of terrorizing women and children in the dark at night, and killing innocent civilians in cold blood and we're going to get lectures on the First Amendment from hacks like Paul Begala?

GUILFOYLE: A little two-faced, don't you think?

HANNITY: Yeah, I think.

GUILFOYLE: That's the problem.

CUPP: It's a little hypocritical, I mean, the New York Times wrote seven pieces in two months on the Proposition 8 protest. Where were they during the 2,000 Tea Parties that cropped up over the country? Nowhere.

Begala's right about one

Begala's right about one thing: we sure as shootin' don't like his vision for our country.

One question, Paulie:  When's the last time you paid more taxes than the IRS said you owed, Mr. Super-patriot?

"Beauty is only skin deep, but liberal's to the bone." - me

HK

Funny thing about that. All these so called liberals who push higher taxes and such.Well if they were truly patriotic they would take no taxes breaks.Like that is going to happen.Begala is like those bugs that come crawling out when you lift a rock.

Yep.  I have yet to have a

Yep.  I have yet to have a liberal give me an answer to that question on paying more than the IRS says they owe.  They usually come up with something brilliant like, "I pay my fair share, and so should everyone else!" They just have a twisted view of "fair".

"Beauty is only skin deep, but liberal's to the bone." - me

You got that right. When I saw what Obama and Biden gave to charity it really showed their concern for helping folks out.As little as possible.

Begala is the real America-hater in this picture

This man supports a political philosophy which is 180 degrees opposed to the ideas this country was founded upon. Not only that, but he supports a "president" that has no love for this nation of any kind, and is beginning to appear to harbor hatred for it

What is more, he is much too cowardly to admit what he really is: A freedom-hating socialist.

He is not just a spineless wimp, but a total wussy.

Bagala can go straight to Hell, and take his totalitarian allies with him.

-Dave

This coup has gone on long enough. The time to put it down is NOW.

Paul Begala ...

Paul Begala isn't what those of us who put on the uniform of the United States Military are and that is a "TRUE PATRIOT". The person (Paul Begala) who is doing the name calling is actually the one who is the wimpy, whiney, weasel. What he doesn't understand is that the majority of the men and women who were injured in combat are willing to return to be with their mates.

What Begala also doesn't realize is that those who attended the TEA Parties are doing is expressing their displeasure with the government. The liberals aren't the only ones who can do this. And if Begala would pay attention to the people out there, he would realize that they come from both political parties and are also independents. By his comments, Begala shows two traits of liberals: ignorance and arrogance.

Remember folks, Freedom isn't Free. It was bought with the blood and sacrifice of the men and women who are serving and who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

For those who fought for it, Freedom has a flavor that the protected will never know.

Also remember folks, that the way to SUPPORT THE TROOPS is to support their mission. Anyone who says that they support the troops but don't support their mission is lying about supporting the troops. And if you want to know, yes I do have a dog in the fight, he is a United States Marine.

Begala Lagosi!

The one person whom doesn't love this country is "Barack Hussein Obama". He needs to be deported, along with the rest of the useless drive-by media.

That's rich!

Begala calling someone "wimpy" and "whiney?" Geez, he was one of the great wimpy-whiner apologists for Clinton, not to mention every stupid, brain-dead leftist protest of the last 8 years! This is just MORE liberal hypocrisy, so blatant you can actually smell it.

We've come full-circle, politically. Those great leftist defenders of the "common-man's" rights are now attacking those rights like a "right-wing reactionary" of the 60s. They now are the "establishment" they fought back then, and their ideas about "rights" have become as fascistic as Il Duce himself. The state is supreme and more important than any person to these modern-day brownshirts. Wait until they start actually punishing "wrong-think," instead of just belittling it.

Stop spending money like water, do you understand that, Begala?

Stop spending our money like water!

<edit: Oh, just BTW; protesting is now unpatriotic? Last year, it was patriotic, and questioning protesters' patriotism was unpatriotic! Simply put, Begala is a MORON!>

Confusion at the Begala Residence

Apparently Mrs. Begala took Paul's flat screen TV off the wall and replaced it with a mirror.  Therefore when poor Pauly took a gander that way he wasn't seeing video of Tea Parties, but a full length of himself.  So let's cut the guy some slack.  He thought he was seeing a wimpy, whiney weasel . . .  and he was.

I think he knows it full

I think he knows it full well. I think he revels in it, too. The Left has embraced their inner jackassdom.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Wow, talk about the

Wow, talk about the arrogance of power - to gratutiously insult so many honest, hard-working, taxpaying - voters. The Left has declared a civil war of insults and marginalization on half the country. This is going to get ugly, I'm afraid.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Chris,

It's been "ugly" for years! I'm more afraid of what comes after "ugly."

Famous last words: "It can't happen here!"

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."-John Adams

Joe,

As soon as I typed it, I had a feeling someone would point that out. I guess I'm saying, with what's to come, we may look back on the last few years as a time of relative civility, now that Begala and Garafalo are probably considered the mainstream of liberal spokespigs.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Which Came First?

Chris - I too am deeply concerned about the new level to which this has sunk.  It is indeed a time to be vigilant.  Which do you think came first, the arrogance or the hate?

CWG,It's an arrogance

CWG,

It's an arrogance based on delusion. I think the left has always deluded itself into thinking that they were superior to everyone else and should be the ruling class. They have always hated who they feel are their intellectual inferiors. The Bush victories made them bitter and allowed them to develop an even more intense hatred. Now, the arrogance of power has allowed that hatred to spill out into the open in what used to be more civil venues.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Good analysis, Chris,

Arrogance when in power, hatred when out of power. The hatred fuels the arrogance, which causes more hatred each election cycle.

Sounds like a perpetual-motion machine. But we all know there's no such thing. More of a (literal) vicious circle. Eventually, the hatred will be there for all to see, and will be their downfall (I hope). But things will get very ugly before then, I fear.

Which is really where we started this thread, isn't it?

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."-John Adams

Joe, You're right it is

Joe,

You're right it is somethng that just builds on itself. I think what really took it to the next level is when the older, more established liberals picked up the hateful, nasty, and dishonest speech from the younger Kos-sack-types and brought it on the network and cable shows and in the magazines and newspapers. It isn't the speech of debates - it's designed to hurt and one can't really respond to it's dishonesty and bile.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

The way I see it...

Is that we can continue to work to get the RIGHT message out, or we can continue to let Begala and his filth continue to poison the well.  It is frustrating that we have to listen to him but that freedom of speech is hard.  Freedom of Speech only means that we have to ALLOW him his right.  We don't have to like it, and we certainly have every right to shout him down and criticize it.

"BEGALA: Then tell him to

"BEGALA: Then tell him to pay his taxes and support our country and stop whining about it."

Really, moron? Are you seriously going to make that argument, considering a requirement for serving in the Obama administration is to be a tax cheat?

Let's play: "What if a conservative said it?"

After Imus defended Cavuto and Hannity, and called Hannity a patriot, Begala shot back: "Then tell him to pay his taxes and support our country and stop whining about it."

Suppose we heard a conservative say this after the Iraq War started? Or after Katrina? Obama has spent more than this already ... and the potholes are still here.

Years ago, there was a Catholic bishop who had the gall to say that all he wanted out of his flock is for them to "Pay, Pray, and Obey." That's the attitude here. It won't work any better for Begala than it did for the bishop (who got swamped at Vatican II).

  Obama likes to be

Obama likes to be compared to Lincoln and there is one comparison that is emerging, obama is Lincolns mirror image.  Lincoln was reviled by the press and admired by the people.  Obama is just the opposite.

Let's examine this a bit

Let's examine this a bit more, shall we?

Lincoln was a white guy who set the nation's slaves free, while Obama is a black guy who is enslaving the nation.

I think there's something here...

"Beauty is only skin deep, but liberal's to the bone." - me

"Weasels who don't love

"Weasels who don't love their country"

By the way, I'm assuming that many of the tea party participants were probably military veterans. I could cry when I think about the warped standards of patriotism of those on the Left, like Begala.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

That's pretty big talk

That's pretty big talk coming from a guy who probably pays for a security detail.  I'd love to see him pop off like that in front of one of those "wimpy, whiney" protestors.  Let's just say he wouldn't be left with a forehead to ridicule.

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." -Winston Churchill

-the Forehead

How about this, Mr. Begala...how about the government lending money to
banks, refusing to take it back, and arbitrarily deciding that it
doesn't want the money repaid, but instead wants an equity share in the bank....

Would you call that democracy or tyranny????

And yeah, Mr. Forehead...protesting is democracy too! It's such an important part that it's enshrined in the FIRST amendment!

How are our elected leaders, our representatives supposed to know that we are not happy with what they are doing if we're not supposed to let it be known publicly?

OH, I get it....we are just supposed to shut up and do as we're told until the next election.

They might say "Wow, that sucks!"  But at least they'll say "Wow!"  -Duff Goldman, the Ace of Cakes

It is truly amazing how

It is truly amazing how quickly the left become outrageously hypocritical. We were not allowed to question their patriotism when, in a time of war, they outright advocated for our defeat. Now, they are falling all over themselves to declare conservatives and those that oppose an ever growing government as people that "do not love their country".

The difference is that conservatives love the USA, liberals just love power.

 Begala:  "Just a bunch

Begala:  "Just a bunch of wimpy, whiney, weasels who don't love their country and don't want to support – there are guys at Walter Reed who gave their legs for my country, and they're whining because they have to write a check?"

This sounds like it's supposed to be some kind of inane, ill-conceived payback for rightly calling liberal Democrats and world leaders who opposed the war in Iraq 'whimps' and 'weasles' which they were and still are. The ugliness and pettiness the Democrats will stoop to in order to exact retribution on those they disagree with is becoming so transparent. Everything that's done in this administration is contrived to avenge the acts, ideas and statements of the previous administration or anyone that supported it.  Every issue or event that comes up now becomes a morality play on why Bush and the Republicans had it wrong all along.  Vilifying those with families and businesses who work for a living and pay taxes through nose is now standard operating procedure in the Democrat party.

MSM

Jessie R. Hamby          It is sad to think they call US names, but it is treason to tell american citizens they don't love their country. That's why WE went to the TEA parties. Because WE love our country. It's congress that is destroying this country. Get rid of everyone in congress. One problem solved. Next, charge CNN & MSNBC for hate crimes against american citizens. Two problems solved.

Double Point Score For Begala

Strawman and attempted human shield defense in one sentence. Go Paulie!

Along with their disdain for out-of-control government, those attending TEA Parties are also united in their support for our troops, including wounded veterans.

To suggest that being against taxpayer funding for ACORN, fantasy fuel programs and other waste in Obama's porkulus and budget bills, in some way equates to being against supporting wounded veterans is beyond Orwellian, beyond stupid, beyond explanation. What kind of drugs is this guy on?

Wow do Democrats have very short

memories-The majority of BHO appointees are tax dodgers, very short memories.

I pay my taxes-how about drug dealers-thieves-a flat sales/consumption tax, so everyone has skin in the game.

I want the tax dollars spent wisely-as do most of those folks attending the Tax Day gatherings. Good Government.

Democrats are and have always been, anti American-socialist/Marxist/communist thinkers.

"The Forehead"

Begala is so much of a patriot that he considers the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's assassination to be Patriot's Day.

Like Rush Limbaugh says, "How can someone with such a huge forehead have such a small mind?"

I've always wanted to do this. Join me, won't you?

"Why, Paul Begala!  Are you questioning my patriotism?  Are you saying, because we differ on an issue, that I'm somehow unpatriotic for expressing my opinion?  Are you saying that people of good conscience cannot disagree on something without one of them turning out to be someone who doesn't love his country??"

That was fun, wasn't it?

But back to reality.  Paul (May I call you "Forehead"?), your opinion of me, and people like me, has no impact.  See, Forehead, you and yours have done what you could over the previous few decades to put the Democrat Party's interests over the interests of the United States.  So, your call us "wimpy, whiny weasels" has absolutely no impact.

Forehead, I'm not questioning your patriotism, because we know that you don't possess a shred of it.  We know you're unpatriotic, and we know from the evidence that you've lived your life that way.  We know you don't love the United States, and have done what you could to neutralize her impact on the rest of the world.

If you and yours succeed in redefining "patriotism" so that the populace perceives it as now being akin to Obama-worship, then yes, I'm as unpatriotic as it get.  But if the traditional definition still applies, you and yours are an embarrassment to the nation.  You do not operate with "good conscience," only with an orientation to amplifying the Democrat Party.  That's why you want to turn illegal aliens into citizens, nationalize the economy, and legitimize deviancy--not for the good of the United States, but to swell the ranks of the Democrat Party.

You are an evil man, Begala, and you serve an evil man.  I pray that God will convict both of you, along with the others who embrace your twisted, myopic agenda, and that you will collectively repent of the wrong you do.

--Mike

Begala!

Paul Begala is a whining, wimpy, Clinton lap dog! His sweetheart, Hillary, screamed about being sick and tired of being called non patriotic for critisizing the opposition. Now the shoe is on the other foot and look what we get! It just goes to show you what the root problem with the Communist liberals really is! Whatever they say about us or accuse us of being is a result of looking at themselves in the mirror and placing our face on their personalities! It also goes to prove that they really don't like themselves. Small wonder they're so miserable!

Progressive = Projection

Want to know what the libs will do next? Just look at what they're accusing conservatives of doing.

Paul Begala is a sissy

This guy is one of the most effeminate guys on television and he's accusing others of being wimp and whiny? Hilarious.

I served in the Marines for four years. I invite Begala to call me a wimp to my face. He would go down faster than Obama bowing before the Saudi king.

It's like Chris Matthews

It's like Chris Matthews calling people out to "play Hardball" - I'd love to his pasty pudginess shellacked in a "hardball" contest with a real conservative.

Re sissy

A couple of months ago, Begala was on CNN's Lou Dobbs show. The label CNN applied under his talking head said 'Paula Begala, Democratic Party Representative'. Wish I could have captured it.

C'mon, now. If you did that, and I do understand wanting to do..

. . .the same, that'd be unfair to this guy, even though a good rearend-whipping does seem appropriate.

He hides behind those cameras.

He's also got to live with the knowledge that he's a wuss and the knowledge that we all know that he's one.

He's got to know that everyone in CNN's audience, as well as his colleagues, know that.

Besides, a growl would probably send him packing.

Even so...

Thanks for your service.

Clinton Butt Boy

Who really cares what Paul Beg Allah has to say about anything?

This guy is a certified  fruit cake .

Hey, I'm happy Begala said those things about us.

I'd have been worried if he actually said something nice or even remotely fair or non-malicious.

As it sounds, though, he's nearly pegged his "Begala HUTA Remarks Scale" on this one.

Well, done, Paul.

It does appear we got your attention.

And that you are scared.

Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea. ~Andrew Breitbart

Begala is full of BS...

I served this country for 22 years in the military (DD-214 shows honorable service) and have been a volunteer firefighter/EMT for the past 14.5 years. I challenge Bagala to show me his list of honorable service, without making the big bucks, to this country. If he supports O'Dumbo he is not a patriot be any means. Most likely a life long criminal and in 99% of the cases a traitor as most democrats are today.

Old, Retired and glad of it.

Yeah, quit being so selfish

Yeah, quit being so selfish you racist rednecks and fork over the money you've gotten by exploiting Mexicans and the Black Man!

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).

I'm going to try to be civil about this...

Mr. Begala,

You seem to forget yourself sir,

The soldiers you seem to suddenly venerate, were worthy of it long before you first drew breath. Patriotism is much more than simply paying one's taxes. If you ever actually spoke with a veteran, you would understand that. If you were any sort of decent human being, you would, like myself, feel guilty that you did not serve your fellow man more than simply hurling insults at those that disagree with you.

I was a simple bartender and I'm pretty sure I declared my income more effeciently than many in your party. After that I gave to charity with much more vigor than many in your fold. I also dedicated my time to those elderly veterans that you suddenly seem so concerned about. I was a greatful citizen, and I didn't mind doing it, I was indeed honored to know them.

You are a political operative, you always have been and always will be. There is nothing wrong with that, that is who you are and you can't help it. I know, I understand and you have my sympathy.

Many, if not most, of our soldiers serve this nation because they have a faith in something greater than themselves. Be it the nation itself, be it a feeling of right vs. wrong or be it a defense of their very families. One thing is certain, they beileve in something.

You sir, believe in nothing. You are only concerned with the acquisition, maintenence and dictation of power. Only you yourself will know what you ultimately intend to do with such power, but I think we can all agree, that is all you care about. No matter how many of us get stepped on in the process.

I'm pretty much a moderate on the spectrum, I know that won't earn me too many friends in the world of political discussion, but that is not the purpose of my post. You violated a sacred trust. You were given a platform and an opportunity to really show Americans, in this last election, what politics could be. All you have done with that opportunity is to squander it on petty insults and accusations that you accused the previous administration of succumbing to.

Again, I expected as much, but many others hoped for more.

Mike

Excluded middle argument.

Either you support wounded vets or you support tax cuts.

How about we support the stopping of this massive spending wave and stopping this massive government expansion?

How about kicking puppies Begula? Or stealing from orphans? Or melting all teh ice cream? Or killing kittens? Or poisoning unicorns? Painting rainbows black?

Do you support cloning Hitler or cutting spending?

Do you support drowing ducklings or protecting this country?

Do you support starving Santa's elves or giving tax dollars to Acorn?

Do you support putting crushed drywall in PBJ sandwiches or paying down the deficit?

Do you support banning sprinkles on sugar cookies or stopping corruption in government?

Sincerely,

a Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars.
