Uniquely among Monday’s broadcast evening newscasts, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams read a short item citing a "disheartening" report by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicting that the world is in danger of suffering effects of global warming that will take 1,000 years to reverse unless "immediate action is taken to cut greenhouse gases." Williams: "The folks at NOAA ... say that if carbon dioxide continues to build up unchecked in our atmosphere, then the effects of global warming could be irreversible for more than a thousand years. That could mean severe drought in some parts of the world. Researchers conclude things are not hopeless as long as immediate action is taken to cut greenhouse gases."
Below is a complete transcript of the item from the Monday, January 26, NBC Nightly News, as read by Williams:
Meantime, the federal government is out tonight with a disheartening finding on the environment. The folks at NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, say that if carbon dioxide continues to build up unchecked in our atmosphere, then the effects of global warming could be irreversible for more than a thousand years. That could mean severe drought in some parts of the world. Researchers conclude things are not hopeless as long as immediate action is taken to cut greenhouse gases.

Somehow I don't think I'll be able to tell much difference between 23 below zero and 21 below. Maybe, but doubtful.
I've been in 80 below riding a snowmachine doin' a hundred...
January 27, 2009 - 19:31 ET by Army BratIt's pretty much all the same from around 20 below down to about 35 or 40 below if you're dressed right. Below that takes a whole different layering technique. I break out the Air Force flight pants and my Woflskin Parka and honest to God Mukluks...seal skin and everything. They work better than any high tech boots I have.
I to am a polluter. I heat my home with a wood stove and an oil burning Toyostove. I too use my Autostart to warm my vehicle before traveling, commute alone 100 miles round trip every day to work, eat meat of all kinds. I feed meat to my dogs, use dry ice to ship fish, drink carbonated drinks of all kinds and burp out the CO2...usually.
Will these acts be taxed or made a crime in the future? i'm not so sure. I never thought that someone who made it known that he was a Socialist/Marxist would be elected POTUS. We'll all be paying the price for this stupidity in the immediate future. Thanks Al! You moronic, greedy twit.
I think that most people that are not caught up in the religious fervor surrounding AGW have discovered the many research papers/studies of late that prove CO2 increases FOLLOW warming. As long as AGW provides a vehicle for the redistribution of wealth, it will be embraced by our liberal friends...scratch that...enemies, in the Obama regime.

CO2 is measured in parts per million
January 27, 2009 - 18:52 ET by 10ksnookerCurrently there is about 380 PPM. At one time the geological record showed it was 8-10 times this. If all the CO2 were removed from the atmosphere, all the plants on Earth would die.And shortly after that all the animals.
Carbon lifeforms, that's us and all the other plants and animals on Earth use two processes to interchange carbon. One is photosynthesis, plants breath in CO2 and breath out oxygen, the other is cellular respiration, where animals breath in oxygen and exhale CO2. It's more complicated than that, but that is the essence of carbon lifeforms.
Another point is the predicted greenhouse blanket of CO2 is not there. There is no proof of CO2 causing anything, except excess hysteria in the media.
No Emergency For Certain
January 27, 2009 - 18:54 ET by CGattonWhile 1/30 of 1% is close, it's actually closer to 1/25 of 1%, lol. In easy numbers to see, it's really about .0385% as opposed to the .0333% from your teacher's numbers. In either case, it is not a thing to worry about, unless you make your money from making people worry.
Danger to life occurs, depending on source, at 4-5%, or roughly 160-200 times it's current, relatively stable state. Since only a tiny fraction of the amount currently in the atmosphere comes from man, you can see why the doomsayer, climate-change screamers never produce verifiable numbers to back up their irrational science. It's your money they want, not truth.

Yes. Fairly constant.
January 28, 2009 - 01:48 ET by JWFThe biomass of the earth absorbs the extra CO2 we put into the atmosphere.
It has been doing so for the entire human history of burning carbon fuels.
We do ourselves a favor by putting CO2 in the atmosphere. The biomass gets bigger and a growing human population get supported by a bigger biomass.

No
January 28, 2009 - 10:41 ET by r22weissMost of the NOAA/Climate Prediction Center long range models showed the Pacific Ocean going from a La Nina pattern in 2008 to a weak La Nina/neutral in 2009. Well guess what, the La Nina did weaken in the Fall of 2008 but has strengthened again this January. So their long range computer models are off. Even a friend at the Cleveland, OH weather service noticed that some of the computer models are trending to warmer temperatures that what actually happens. That's what happens when you put faulty data into the models and try to reach the result you want instead of the actual result.

January 27, 2009 - 19:51 ET by richb313The fix is in folks. No matter what the real science is, no matter what common sense tells you we will have very soon restrictive legislation that will forever change this country. This is just the latest scam to try for a world government. The green movement was taken over by that crowd years ago. Look at all the proposed solutions. All of them involve the United States of America losing part of its' soverignty. The Kyoto Treaty, which Clinton signed (agreed with a world Govt.) but the Senate never ratified, was an attempt to establish the U.N. as the leadership in a world govt. The Cap and Trade schemes benifit no one except the high dollar investor class and cost the regular citizen in higher energy costs and higher costs in food and all manufactured goods.
We do not need to worry about reducing our carbon footprint. Ever since the Industrial Revolution we have been reducing our carbon foot print. We have moved from wood to coal to oil, and somewhat to Nuclear Power. Each step along the way reduced real pollution. President Bush supported research into Nano Technology and Hydrogen technology. I am not going to make a prediction what new technology or energy source will eventually replace oil, but one will just as coal replaced wood. There was no Government interference in that transition as there was no Govt mandate to move from coal to oil.
Don't be fooled by any of the reactionary hype. This is about Govt wanting to exert more control. It is about the United States losing its soverignty. It is about The connected wanting another investment scheme to make more money without even having to produce anything.
The Warmist Con
January 27, 2009 - 19:53 ET by slickwillie2001If you study the way a typical street con progresses, and how a con-man works his trade, when a con begins to fail the conman begins to get desperate, and dangerous. At this point you fear simply being mugged rather than conned.
So it will be with the Warmists. Their message of doom will become ever more shrill. They will resort to personal threats. We must remain resolute and stick to the truth, and in time the con will collapse and be put down the memory hole.
A few decades from now, when the politics are safe, books will be written about 'the great global warming con'. It will be a case study in how to move a population with propaganda.

UN Blowback: More Than 650 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims

Study: Half of warming due to Sun! –Sea Levels Fail to Rise? - Warming Fears in ‘Dustbin of History’
POZNAN, Poland - The UN global warming conference currently underway in Poland is about to face a serious challenge from over 650 dissenting scientists from around the globe who are criticizing the climate claims made by the UN IPCC and former Vice President Al Gore. Set for release this week, a newly updated U.S. Senate Minority Report features the dissenting voices of over 650 international scientists, many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN. The report has added about 250 scientists (and growing) in 2008 to the over 400 scientists who spoke out in 2007. The over 650 dissenting scientists are more than 12 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers.
The U.S. Senate report is the latest evidence of the growing groundswell of scientific opposition rising to challenge the UN and Gore. Scientific meetings are now being dominated by a growing number of skeptical scientists. The prestigious International Geological Congress, dubbed the geologists’ equivalent of the Olympic Games, was held in Norway in August 2008 and prominently featured the voices and views of scientists skeptical of man-made global warming fears. [See Full report Here: & See: Skeptical scientists overwhelm conference: ‘2/3 of presenters and question-askers were hostile to, even dismissive of, the UN IPCC’ ]
Full Senate Report Set To Be Released in the Next 24 Hours – Stay Tuned…
A hint of what the upcoming report contains:
I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.” - Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.
“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical.” - Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology and formerly of NASA who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”
Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist.
“The IPCC has actually become a closed circuit; it doesn’t listen to others. It doesn’t have open minds… I am really amazed that the Nobel Peace Prize has been given on scientifically incorrect conclusions by people who are not geologists,” - Indian geologist Dr. Arun D. Ahluwalia at Punjab University and a board member of the UN-supported International Year of the Planet.
“The models and forecasts of the UN IPCC “are incorrect because they only are based on mathematical models and presented results at scenarios that do not include, for example, solar activity.” - Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico
“It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t buy into anthropogenic global warming.” - U.S Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA.
“Even doubling or tripling the amount of carbon dioxide will virtually have little impact, as water vapor and water condensed on particles as clouds dominate the worldwide scene and always will.” – . Geoffrey G. Duffy, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Auckland, NZ.
“After reading [UN IPCC chairman] Pachauri’s asinine comment [comparing skeptics to] Flat Earthers, it’s hard to remain quiet.” - Climate statistician Dr. William M. Briggs, who specializes in the statistics of forecast evaluation, serves on the American Meteorological Society’s Probability and Statistics Committee and is an Associate Editor of Monthly Weather Review.
“For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming? For how many years must cooling go on?” - Geologist Dr. David Gee the chairman of the science committee of the 2008 International Geological Congress who has authored 130 plus peer reviewed papers, and is currently at Uppsala University in Sweden.

Why do they always say "greenhouse gassES"???
January 27, 2009 - 20:21 ET by krendlerWHY NOT JUST SAY CO2, libs/msm? That's what you mean.
They're almost as averse to saying CO2 as they are "global warming" (replaced w/ "climate change").
And what's with the plural form of "gas"? Anything beside CO2 they're worried about?
I guess they're afraid somebody is going to quickly point out the utterly debunked graphs Big Al presented in his movie "demonstrating" the correlation between CO2 and temperature (which, as it turns out, show CO2 LAGGING temp changes by CENTURIES. Temps caused CO2 levels to increase. Not the other way around, as Gore contended). Why doesn't Brian Williams mention that? I guarantee you he never has.
They call them Greenhouse
January 28, 2009 - 09:34 ET by Hunter12They call them Greenhouse Gases to conjure up that experience we've all had of being in a greenhouse on a warm day and scare people with that dread of excessive heat and humidity. They have to change the mantra from Global Warming to Climate Change, because the world is cooling. It's happened so quickly and drastically that they can't even claim the changes they've shoved through so far are working. If such were the case, people will shortly be screaming that we need more coal-fired power plants and everyone must drive an SUV, as, at least where I live, it's colder than it has been for a long time. I wonder how long Europe is going to put up with the cap and trade crapola they started three or four years ago. With the unemployment fueling Muslim unrest, they need to put that money into the hands of people who can create jobs. The government, any government, has always been notoriously poor at doing that. Bureauracy sucks the effective capital off the top of any such project and there isn't enough left to sustain a startup program.

Liberals have 'Solved' Global Warming
January 28, 2009 - 00:21 ET by Retired GeekDemocratic genius Dennis Kuchinich and other intellectual Democrats have found the answer to Global Warming.
Future President of the United States Maxine Waters, was explaining why NASA should land the 'Sun Lander' at NIGHT to avoid heat damage to the lander.
A common epiphany occurred involving Maxine Waters, Dennis Kuchinich, Barney Frank, John Murtha and Nancy Pelosi.
They said all of the sudden, we realized what is causing 'Global Warming' at the same time!
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!
"Adding another hour of sunlight during the summer afternoons", a spokesman for the group said "is the obvious culprit, because it heats up the planet."
President Obama has asked for them to get a bill on his desk for signing as soon as possible, the bill will be entitled "Stop Global Warming by Eliminating Extra Hours of Sunshine" sponsored by all intellectuals in the Democratic Party.
President Obama stated he wants NO bipartisanship, this will be the bill that defines 'Hope' and 'Change' for his administration.
Daylight Savings Time
January 28, 2009 - 13:23 ET by r22weissThis makes no sence. How can you eliminate extra hours of sunshine with a time chage? If you eliminate daylight savings time there is still going to be the SAME amount of daylight in standard time, just on a different scale.
A few years ago when daylight savings time was extended to early March to the first weekend in November instead of early April to the last weekend in October was done to SAVE electricity. Here's why...when you get up in the morning what do you do? The average person turns a light on...no matter if the sun is up or not. In the evening the average person only turns a majority of their lights on when the sun sets. Thus, buy extending daylight savings time you actually reduce the cost of electricity. Your AC/Heater is still going to run the same amount no matter how much daylight there is, that depends on temperature, not daylight.
But all this is too logical for them to see.
Global warming is a hoax
January 28, 2009 - 12:52 ET by kevinm13When will these idiots realize that man cannot influence climate and that CO2 or carbon dioxide is exhaled by humans and breathed in (necessary for life) by plants.
