Olbermann Says His Critics, Including Military Officers, 'Can Go to Hell'

  • Bookmark and Share

On Thursday's Countdown show, after recounting the story of American soldiers deployed to Iraq while still recovering from injuries, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann seemed to oddly suggest that not only military officers, but also politicians and even commentators, presumably conservative ones, were responsible for the orders that these troops be deployed. The Countdown host contended these critics of his are the same people who accuse those who are anti-war of "hating the troops" and of being "anti-American," and suggested that they "go to hell." Olbermann:

The men who ordered them back, in the military, and outside of it, are the ones who accuse those who criticize them of hating the troops or of being anti-American. And frankly, those politicians, those commentators, and those senior officers can go to hell.

Olbermann seemed to be citing a January 17 story in the Denver Post which focused on the case of Master Sergeant Denny Nelson of Fort Carson, Colorado's Third Brigade Combat Team, who was deployed to Kuwait, ostensibly for "light duty" as a liaison officer, while recovering from a leg injury he suffered on a trampoline. Nelson was deployed despite a decision by the Soldier Readiness Process site at Fort Collins that he should not be deployed. After his arrival in Kuwait, and his discovery of plans to send him into Iraq sooner than originally planned, a physician emailed Nelson's superior officer in Fort Collins, Captain Scot Tebo, "urging him to send Nelson back to the U.S.," leading to the master sergeant soon returning to the country. (The full article can be found here.)

Below is a complete transcript of Olbermann's comments from the Thursday, January 17 Countdown show on MSNBC, which were part of a regular segment on Bush administration scandals titled "Bushed!":

And number one, "Veterans-Gate." We've already seen how the administration treated Iraq and Afghanistan vets at Walter Reed. Now, from Fort Carson's Third Brigade Combat Team from Colorado, an email from the team surgeon that, quote, "We have been having issues reaching deployable strength, and thus have been taking along some borderline soldiers who we would otherwise have left behind for continued treatment." Specifically, a master sergeant named Denny Nelson, whose leg and foot were so injured that at home, he was issued a permit for a handicapped parking space, whose doctors said he was not permitted to carry more than 20 pounds, he was sent back for service in Kuwait.

Men like Denny Nelson are the heroes. The men who ordered them back, in the military, and outside of it, are the ones who accuse those who criticize them of hating the troops or of being anti-American. And frankly, those politicians, those commentators, and those senior officers can go to hell.

Touchy Touchy aren't we Keeter

Surgeons are in the business of nursing soldiers with ever ache and pain. As Patton chewed out his doctors for placing those "combat fatigue" soldiers in with wounded heroes....it was the doctors who got Patton into trouble.
Wonder of wonders by the Korean War, medical surgeons had learned though psychiatry that the best medicine for ALL soldiers, especially the one that Patton tried to shame WAS TO MAKE THEM REJOIN THEIR UNITS as being around their own comrades healed them where doctors coddling only worsened the problem.

I would take this whiner surgeon stabbing chain of command in the back out and horse whip him, put a gun in his hand and tell him he could not play doctor until he created a thousands enemy patients for al Qaeda butchering doctors.

The best thing for ALL people is to get them out and moving. Laying around in beds and focusing on pain does nothing but reinforce that condition. My life has been a prime example of injuries and illnesses which would have killed me except for the grace of God gave me the will to get up, get back with my duty and stop focusing on what is wrong........and start focusing on what is right.

Olberman is typical in his Keeter rage for money and power, but his worry is as always that he is going to hell and he knows it. His not understanding that the best medicine is soldiers among their units doing their duty in having the closest people in the world to them depend on them...........is as foreign to his understanding in thinking he is God..........and can condemn people to hell.

Mr. Olberman, sir, get a Bible and talk with God as you need Him to educate you.........as cursing the very people God is working through and inspiring is something God definitely addresses in His Word.

God bless you Keith to change and find the Peace of God. In His Name. Amen

All Keith needs to do is go to the library! That or go on time out...

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

So let's see....this

So let's see....this soldier, still recovering from a non-service-related injury, was sent to Kuwait for "light duty." While there, they wanted to send him back to Iraq sooner than planned. So a physician emailed Nelson's superior officer in Fort Collins, Captain
Scot Tebo, "urging him to send Nelson back to the U.S.," leading to the
master sergeant soon returning to the country.

And this proves....what? The guy got sent back stateside. What's the problem here, Keith?

Well, well, well, isn't Bathtub Boy brave now....telling people he can't see and who can't see him, and couldn't care less what he thinks, to "go to hell."

Yup, Keith Olbermann....a legend in his own mind.

Keith can go to hell

And Probably will...

He's a nobody, so frankly, commentators like him, and those senior producers that support such vitriol are doing this country a great disservice. They can all go to Hell.

In much the same way we saw

In much the same way we saw Anna Nicole self destruct in front of our eyes, and are seeing the same with Brittany, we are watching this guy become a parody of himself.

A guy like Keith should be pitied. He is so filled with hate, he won't be able to sustain himself. No telling what kind of drugs he's on, but he's gonna crash, and when he does, it won't be pretty.

→ Gary

But there's a difference.

I don't remember wanting to see Anna Nicole or Brittany self distruct.

I do want to see OldBuffoon self destruct into a drooling lump.

Oh, wait.  After further review, OldBuffoon is a drooling lump.

I ♣ My Seal

Well that's a given! I

Well that's a given!

I felt sorry for Anna, a poor dumb stripper who couldn't handle it, and I feel sorry for the whole Spears family. They're what Senator Robert Byrd D-WV, would call "white n_____s". Tough to watch.

Keith is a very sad individual. I'm sure he spends most nights drinking, or whatever, alone, stewing in his own madness. Sad way to go through life.

Keith is so full of it

In just one minute of Google searching, I discovered that soldiers like Denny who do get sent to war are assigned desk duty or other similar type duty. This comes from actual commanders in the field. Are you suprized that Keith left that little nugget out of his report? Neither am I.

You know, Keith has become

You know, Keith has become so deranged for attention I think it's time to just stop reporting anything he does.Im convinced thats the best way to get him.Just totally shut him out. This will be my last ever comment on K.O. NB try it.You know he gets off on the critics. He's twisted.

Brave Sir Robin

Yeah, yeah, we've heard it all before. In the liberal fantasy, they wanted to quietly point out the perils of going to war in Iraq, but they were fearful of being called anti-American, so they bravely stayed quiet. And when the war started going badly, they decided that it was safe for them to come out and magnify every misstep.

The truth is they want the right to criticize without being criticized in return. And if we told Keith to go to hell, he'd complain about being told to go to hell. He's another media vampire (he has no self-reflection). He doesn't grasp the irony of hating his critics for criticizing his criticism.

He delights in telling imaginary stick-men to go to hell. How brave!

And if we told Keith to go

And if we told Keith to go to hell, he'd complain about being told to go to hell

No, KC, he would scream "Censorship!!"

I love your vampire/no self reflection analogy!

Ideological Agility

Thanks, mb. I only wish it wasn't true. The media as a whole are vampires, to some degree, but Keith is the battiest of them all.

Keith is slowly treading

Keith is slowly treading towards a tragic Howard Beale ending.

Just remember, history has proven that with all extreme lib commentators the ending is NEVER pretty.

I would wish something horrible on Olberdork

But something horrible has already befallen him.. I can think of few things worse in fact. He will have to go through his entire life being Keith Olberdork and that, quite clearly, has just got to suck.

Olberdork...home to the worlds loneliest brain cell.

Happy Trails...

If ever confronted by a

If ever confronted by a Military Officer, Olby would promptly wet himself and call for security. We've all dealt with wussies like him,  just confront them any where but their venue and you own 'em. Frankly, I'd own him in his venue but I'd spend the night in the local hoosegow, so all in all not a bad proposition.

BATH-TUB-BOY...

Ok, so those politicians, those commentators(I'm assuming folks who comment online as well), & those senior officers can go to hell? Our hero BathTubBoy, who asked why President Bush hates the troops, at the same time he spends every show blasting all things that support our military, their mission, those who lead them, & last, but not least, those of us who support the troops & their mission.

BathTubBoy says we can go to hell. Since I don't believe I've done enough to heaven, I'll be in hell, & when I see BathTubBoy there(don't kid yourself Keith, when you sell your soul, that's where you end up) , we will have a "conversation". Won't be much talking though...see you in hell BathTubBoy, & bring friends.

He says to us, go to hell

BLOWBERMAN, THE SAME TO YOU!

While I would wish nobody

While I would wish nobody to go to hell...this is just yet another example of how libs handle critisim. Say something that is against what they think, and they respond with vulgarity or telling you to go to hell. In my mind...they've lost the argument once they resort to those tactics.

Anti-War and Hating Troops

You do see the same refrain over and over again from the self loathing anti-war movement. They don't hate the troops, they support the troops.

Yet the New York Times publishes a hit piece on Sunday without statistics claiming our soldiers commit a disproportinate number of murders when they come back home.

Congressman Charles Rangel claims only the poor and uneducated serve because they have no other options. The Times runs stories of military recruiters "fooling" people into signing up.

That doesn't sound like love to me.

POVERTY PIMPING...

They are poor & uneducated because of LBJ era "Great Society" programs & poor public schools, both are supported by the Dems for political reasons. The Dems are the biggest enemy to the poor & uneducated, but they keep holding the hand that holds them down. Some things never change.

head shot

Why does Olby have the camera about 4 inches from his face ?  Is it to see his bulging veins and flaring nostrils when he loses his mind every night?

Just wonderin'

Olberslob

Every time I read or watch Olberman I can't help but think of what an dick weed he is.

Hey Olberslob, it's not your defense of the troops that "some" find unpatriotic or anti-american, it's your complete intolerance and full assault of the political opposition, at all cost, that is unpatriotic.  It's the fact that you're willing to lie, bend the truth, and discredit this country just because your beloved Democrates are not in the white house.  That's what's anti-american.  It's the knee-jerk, America is wrong because my cronies aren't running the show attitude that causes people to conclude you're an unpatriotic, mean-spirited, nit-wit.

That brave men and women

That brave men and women would volunteer to defend the rights of anti-Americans like Keith and his ilk to villify and disrespect them speaks volumes of the character of our soldiers.  Fortunately Keith is a marginal fringe player that appeals to a small, sick segment of our society.

After you Olbie!

So, the Walter Reed fiasco was all Bush's fault, not a harbinger of what Hillary-care would be?

Vets should be allowed to go to ANY hospital, Jerk!

Mr. Magoo Strikes again

My goodness. Doesn't he look like Mr. Magoo? (See above) Olbermann is a bitter, mean, near-sighted old man. He should scream "Road Hog!"

Olbermaniac Where is your career headed ?

What ya gonna do when Bush leaves office, boy ?  As you say...

"not only military officers, but also politicians and even commentators"...what ?  Have more influence than you do ?

My advice is to continue the Transition to the NFL broadcast booth, where you can Join Fans that hate teams...after all, if you bad mouth the Steelers, you'll always find an audience that agrees with you.

This puke should be replaced

This puke should be replaced by a test pattern.

This is a classic example

This is a classic example of the Keith Olbermann 10 step "news reporting" approach.

(1) Find a article alleging something critical about the Bush Administration or whatever enemy du jour is on Olbermann's list; Liberal web sites are preferred as sources;

(2) Whatever the article claims, work a picture or connection to Bush, no matter how tenuous, into the item;

(3) Do no original reporting. Do not check on the allegations, do not allow the person or persons being criticized to respond or give their point of view;

(4) Do not mention the source of the allegation, especially if it comes from a liberal website that is not accredited as a news organization (such as the AP or NY Times wire service, et cetera);

(5) When re-writing the allegations for on-air presentation, be as inflammatory as possible. Smear anyone and everyone. Call them juvenile names, challenge their professional ethics, defame them again and again with as many witty historical references or pop culture references one can come up with;

(6) Offer no balance or contrarian views whatsoever.

(7) If a guest must be invited on the show, make sure it's a liberal

(8) When reading the item on-ai, try to be as outraged as possible. Raise and lower your voice, shake your head repeatedly, make your face go red.

(9) If the item is later shown to be false or incomplete or inaccurate, ignore the criticism.

(10) Rinse and repeat.

So does anyone watch Keith

So does anyone watch Keith anymore? I mean, he's far surpassed the possibility of psychiatric rehabilitation. He's turning into a Rosie, what with his completely pointless rants and all. If he's even got an audience, I have to wonder if they just listen to laugh at his absurdity.

→ No, AJ

And it works out real good for us.  Here's how it works:

One of the head guys at NB watches it (poor soul) and reports to us about it.  We then think of venomous things to say about him and call him "Bathtub Boy" to honor John Gibson on FOX.

It works for us, and most of us never have to watch.

Once a week we take up a collection for Brad Wilmouth to keep up the good work.

Hey Brad, the check's in the mail.

This story was NONSENSE of

This story was NONSENSE of the first order.

A soldier is re-assigned to light duty in Kuwait following a trampoline accident by the medical board.  Then is re-deployed following further evaluation from Kuwait.

In most cases, most of my compadres will walk on fire to go back to their units rather than get re-deployed early.  I know several who have suffered injuries that would obviously heal better at home (Back injuries, knee injuries, rotator cuff, etc) but will not stay away from their comrades in a warzone who might need them.

During troops used to escape from the Replacement Depots in the rear to rejoin their units rathr than sit around and recover. Kieth so suffers from BDS that he will find ANY perceived flaw with which to paint the military and by extention the administration.
