On Monday's Countdown show, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann used his regular "Worst Person in the World" segment to accuse the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Admiral Michael Mullen, of trying to "fake" a "Gulf of Tonkin" incident with Iran over the recent U.S. Navy confrontation with Iranian navy speed boats in the Strait of Hormuz. Referring to reports that, out of five Iranian boats, only one unarmed boat approached the U.S. Navy ships, and that the threatening message received could have come from a "well-known marine heckler" of the area, Olbermann awarded the "Worst Person" dishonor to Mullen: "So you guys tried to fake another Gulf of Tonkin incident using some clown with a CB radio and the lethal threat posed by the S.S. Minnow? Joint Chiefs Chairman Mike Mullen, on behalf of the Bush administration, today's 'Worst Person in the World'!"
Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the regular "Worst Person in the World" segment from the Monday January 14 Countdown show on MSNBC:
KEITH OLBERMANN: Our winner, your friendly U.S. government, epitomized here by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mullen. This is about the little thing in the Straits of Hormuz, which the administration tried to sell as a near act of war by Iranian patrol boats against three giant U.S. warships, complete with provocative maneuvers and somebody radioing the U.S. ships, quote, "I am coming to you. You will explode after minutes." Admiral Mullen, it was, who said of the video of the incident, "To my knowledge, I have not seen one as both provocative and dramatic as this." Five minutes later, though, he added: "First of all, I haven't seen the full video myself." Now, the Navy Times newspaper echoes a lot of online reporting saying that the threatening radio message may have come from a well-known marine heckler whose radio abuse is legendary around the Persian Gulf. Oh, and that the only Iranian boat that actually came close to one of the U.S. warships was unarmed. So you guys tried to fake another Gulf of Tonkin incident using some clown with a CB radio and the lethal threat posed by the S.S. Minnow? Joint Chiefs Chairman Mike Mullen, on behalf of the Bush administration, today's "Worst Person in the World"!

Right! The central fact
January 15, 2008 - 10:07 ET by dscottRight! The central fact omitted by Uber Dumber, the power of the explosives more than made up for the size of the boat used to deliver them to the USS Cole.
The Iranians are employing the same tactics of the suicide bombers using bomb vests, truck bombs or car bombs, except in this case it's a few people riding in a boat. They know very well that they can't slug it out ship to ship as their Navy would be toast within the first few minutes of engagement. They have resorted to the gnat swarming tactic. And they have the brass to push the envelop as much as possible since the British didn't properly respond to their situation and the NIE report gave them lots of cover.
But we all should realize why the Iranians are doing this, it's about the price of oil, every time they push the envelop, the price of oil goes up. The Iranians are attempting to get as much money for their oil as possible and more importantly attempting to push the US into recession. Sustained oil price hikes have virtually always triggered a recession in the US. They know "it's the economy stupid" that will influence US politics and are counting on a Dem victory in 2008 just as they counted on it in 2007 to hobble Bush in Iraq. It didn't work that time since W has more brass than the Dems have spine. Now they the Iranians are going for the brass ring, a Dem in the Whitehouse will help their agenda as Dems will let the UN take over the international relations issues under the guise of international cooperation. We all saw how that worked under Clinton and Carter!
Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. dscott's corollary: The line between malice and stupidity is called depraved indifference.

Inspired by a Democrats
January 15, 2008 - 02:53 ET by Lame CherryI honestly long ago had enough of Keeter Olberman and so would like him to list me sometime as I doubt Mike Mullen will do anything about it.
In Olberman's case though, I would be inspired by 2 Democrats. The wonderful Zell Miller in threatening to fight a duel with that sissy Chris Matthews........and Andrew Jackson who said he had 2 regrets as President in not shooting Henry Clay and hanging his Vice President. John Calhoun.
I realize it is quite illegal to fight a duel as sissy's like Olberman passed laws to protect them, but it would be a price I would willingly pay to call out this smarmy Keeter Olberman, let him choose his pistol, walk 10 paces and no matter if the loud mouth put one in my chest or not to stand like Andy Jackson and drive a ball into Olberman's.
Life or Death, the liberty as Nathan Hale proclaimed is a worthy price as Mike Mullen has just been slandered, defamed and called a liar.
I would take that quite personal and like Zell Miller and Andy Jackson figure the cost of a duel well worth the price of one's own good name.
Words are cheap and flow so freely now. The real men are in Iraq and Afghanistan speaking with munitions. Perhaps Larry Craig would sponsor a bill to rescind the law against the duel.........if only for a day.
Now there would not be any delight in shooting down a vocabulary assassin named Keeter Olberman, but risking one's life in the defense of one's name is a most glorious and gallant honor.
So Keeter, I or some other American await your tongue assassination to offer our challenge upon deerskin gloves slapping your face. We will use your pistols as you must have some being a man.........I do not know any of the people around you who are not cowards like yourself to be your second..........but I will choose Dick Cheney as my second with Anton Scalia to call off the paces.
Your heroic Democrats can not be wrong Keeter. Come let us play like men.........if you have the muster.

What I was trying to get across is that I am sick and tired of this bastard going out and making these false accusations at the US military and government officials. He has gone way beyond his 1st amendment rights, and is an outright enemy to the USA. For this Olbermann should be charged with Treason under article 3 section 3 of the United States constitution under the grounds of giving aid and comfort to the enemy, if not physically, he has certainly drumed up aid with his outreach to them, and I would be willing to bet an investigation into his background would dig up even more.

BATH-TUB-BOY...
January 15, 2008 - 04:43 ET by danybhoyHere is the bottom line about BathTubBoy & other liberals/progressives/hippies/marxists/elitists on this subject...
They attack what will do them no real harm, while they downplay those who would kill them if possible. Bush, Cheney, the US military, O'Reilly, El-Rushbo, FoxNews, & conservative talk radio are all "enemies" to BathTubBoy & his like minded idiots. But they will never have to fear any real threats from them. But they don't fear our real enemies because this country does everything it can to defend us from them at all costs. Even if the left opposes most of what makes that possible.
BathTubBoy is the real fake, like other icons the left get their "news & informantion" from, Stewert, Colbert, & Mahar, none of them are actual journalists. BathTubBoy should either put up or shut up. He never has an opposing viewpoint on his show, which is what made MSNBC's Iowa coverage funny, since Mathews was openly cheering on Obama, & since BathTubBoy is a longtime shill for the Clintons. He was in waaaaaaay over his head, I wonder if those who oversee MSNBC/NBCnews noticed? How long will it take them to notice?

January 15, 2008 - 07:20 ET by ArchConservativeFirst of all, who would ever take seriously someone who calls people that are not murdering or raping the "worst person in the world"? Apparently the answer is neo-progressives. Hillary saying that Obama hasn't done the "spadework" isn't grounds for this? Comparing Bush to Hitler isn't grounds for this? Murdering 3000 innocents on 9/11 or cheering on the hijackers isn't grounds for this? No, just a member of the JCOS who was trying to protect his troops from a nation that has vowed to destroy Israel and mushroom cloud us.

"Worst Person in the World" segment from October 12, 2000...
January 15, 2008 - 09:16 ET by reasonsjesterOlbermann: "Well hellooooo! Today's 'worst person in the world' - the 17 men and women who perished aboard the U.S.S. Cole! The sailors stupidly sat like ducks in the Port of Aden when a lone boat approached the giant U.S. warship and detonated an explosive device into the hull. I mean, how stupid is our U.S. Navy? The men and women aboard the U.S.S. Cole - today's 'worst person in the world!'"
Obviously, I don't intend to make light of the tragic deaths of our best and brightest that horrendous day in October. What I intend to point out is the hypocrisy of yea-hoos like Olbermann who don't remember history in any appreciable way, and thus make assinine statements like the ones he did on air Monday. The U.S.S. Cole bombing demonstrates the axiom that we have to be right 100% of the time, and the terrorists only have to be right once. If MSNBC wanted to be fair, the "Worst Person in the World" for that ominous date in October would have been Bill Clinton, who did virtually nothing to respond to the terrorists (except give a speech), and who demonstrated to bin Laden and al Qaeda the wrongheaded idea that America is full of cowards. Bush has proven that idea wrong by taking the fight to the enemy where he lay, in the face of disastrous public opinion and a media that has been merciless and reckless in their pursuit of destroying his presidency.
