On Wednesday's "Countdown" show, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann accused Republican strategist Kellyanne Conway and Fox News of "race hatred" in response to Conway making an arguably alarmist suggestion on Monday's "The O'Reilly Factor" that allowing the EEOC to sue employers for requiring its employees to speak English on the job could eventually lead to the hiring of non-English-speaking employees for other more serious jobs like air traffic controllers, resulting in airplanes crashing. During the "Countdown" show's regular "Worst Person in the World" segment, the MSNBC host went over the top by charging that Conway was "trying to dress up the lunatic fringe's race hatred over there at Fox News," and, addressing Conway, advised: "If you were just honest about your racism, at least you wouldn't look quite that stupid." (Transcript follows)
Olbermann's "Worst Person" segment, which normally features the MSNBC host listing three nominees for the dishonor of "Worst Person in the World," started with the "Countdown" host awarding the third place, or "bronze," distinction to Conway. Olbermann: "The bronze, to Republican water-carrier Kellyanne Conway, trying to dress up the lunatic fringe's race hatred over there at Fox News, claiming that a lawsuit against the Salvation Army branch that fired two employees who would not observe the 'speak only English' rule, could some day lead to death and destruction."
Olbermann then read a quote from her, which he likely obtained from the left-wing Media Matters for America, a frequent source of material for the MSNBC host. Imitating Conway's voice, Olbermann read: "'It is,' she says, 'one day going to blossom into two air traffic controllers who don't speak great English because political correctness has made us appoint them to those positions. We're going to have two planes crashing in the sky. And that's not a dramatic example. That's what happens with slippery slopes.'"
Olbermann then contended that the Civil Rights Act would allow employers to require English be spoken if it is "essential to doing the job," and then accused Conway of "racism" and of being "stupid." Olbermann: "Yeah, except the Civil Rights Act on this 'speak only English' stuff specifically excludes workplaces where speaking only English is essential to doing the job. You know, like American air traffic control centers. If you were just honest about your racism, at least you wouldn't look quite that stupid."

Wasn't it just this summer (or so) that a judge released a defendant on the grounds that the state hadn't provided a translator?
It would never occur to me to visit India or China and expect them to speak English. Of course, many do, but I wouldn't expect every Chinese or Indian police officer to speak English. If they arrested me on suspision of some crime, I'd have no right to have their proceedings explained to me in English. That's because it's perfectly reasonable to expect the Chinese to speak Chinese, and to conduct their affaris in Chinese. It isn't racial stereotyping to expect that; it's an assumption that practical people make. And if I expect that of other countries, why would I expect anything different here?
Throwing the race card about language is usually a cheap shot. We have enough racial problems without dragging this into it.

Military's no-doubt in the language of that military, but aviation people figured-out early-on that one language was needed for safety reasons, and English got selected. Not only in the US, but if they are landing in Brazil, for example, neither pilot nor controller may speak the other's language, but they both speak English. At least Air-traffic control English. Whether they could have a beer and converse about their families in English, I don't know.

Didn't know Kellye was offering a definite rather than a for instance. I took it to mean problems could occur, even fatal problems, if we force employers to hire regardless of language.
The nursing profession comes to mind, especially in light of the many wrong dosages given already (by English speaking distributors) in American hospitals as well as at pharmacies. But that's probably an English only thing too.
I feel much safer now knowing there is no slippery slope whatsoever in this issue.

Does English-speaking constitute a race of people? So what race would that be, since nearly all Americans speak English, and America is made up of who knows how many different races of people. Britain also speaks English. What "race" is a British person, Olbermann?
And it appears that those in favor of illegal aliens might be the racist ones. They're the ones who assume, without question, that being anti-illegal alien somehow means being against Mexican people. So the Left sees only Mexicans as possible illegal aliens? No others can be illegal? How's that for racism, if they choose to use that word with every lift of a finger?
The Left is a danger to America, and hence, a danger to themselves without even knowing it. But it's not at all surprising, but moreso very typical of liberal thinking.
As for Olbermann, he's gotten consistently worse. His show is more like a TV version of a liberal blog......a hard Left blog, nothing near center there.

In KO's case, anything he says is such unrealistic drivel. People just have to consider the source, and ignore it completely.

WE should not alter the United States of America for any guest. They should be welcome for a specified length of time--no longer. It is the insanity of many of the press and other elites that suggest that preserving our country equates with racism. It does not! Many of us believe in this country and its founding principles irrespective of what the revisionists suggest. Demanding that people doing work in OUR country make a measured effort to use English( no matter what the job) isn't racist just because you say so. English IS the language of our country and should remain so. Assimilation has been and should remain the only option for immigrants to our country. Citizens of this country should not have to take a lot of in-coming from vacuous twits like Olbermann over this issue. Hate and racism have no standing in this; we believe in the United States and wish to preserve it.

He spends his air time going after O'Reilly, & Bill pwns him in the ratings, & I'm just guessing that Bill sell a few more books then the weekend sports guy. I'll go out on that limb.
BTW Olbermann, calling John Gibson "BathTubHead"(yes, you read that right) shows me that you are hearing what is being said/written about your overpaid @$$. Gibby calls you BathTubBoy because he always filled in for you when you WOULD NOT GET OUT OF THE TUB because you DID NOT want cover Bill getting service from Monica during your 1st stint at MSNBC when Gibby worked there as well. What does BathTubHead mean anyway? I can't wait to hear this one.
Just do your show, take most of your script info directly from MediaMatters, Kos, DU, MoveOn, stick it into your teleprompter, collect your paycheck, & go home to you $4 million plus pad in one of Trump's buildings, & enjoy your 24 year old girlfriend. Enjoy it while you can, your well rewarded for getting your butt kicked, someone will clean up NBCnews & make it cost effective. Untill then, relax.
