It took fourteen pages--13 of those geared towards Franklin' Foer's attempt to keep his job--but here's the punchline:
When I last spoke with Beauchamp in early November, he continued to stand by his stories. Unfortunately, the standards of this magazine require more than that. And, in light of the evidence available to us, after months of intensive re-reporting, we cannot be confident that the events in his pieces occurred in exactly the manner that he described them. Without that essential confidence, we cannot stand by these stories.
Stay tuned. I'll have much more later, including why Franklin Foer said nothing to justify keeping his job.

Indict Franklin Foer

In reading the reports to listening to other veterans, it would be obvious to a child Beauchamp was an absolute liar for profit. The first Beauchamp lie which glared out at me was his having a soldier put a dead person's skull on his head like a crown. ANY farm kid knows how death stinks and the stink does not wash off. It was all elementary and yet Foer surged ahead with an agenda.........an agenda which I will repeat got a host of people DEAD.
This is reckless homocide when one instigates situations where people end up murdered. I can not urge the United States Military enough to convene a tribunal and indict Beauchamp, his lying wife and Franklin Foer.
If they toss in the publishers who let this travesty continue, I would call it the beginning of justice.
It is past time that Koran flushed down toilets in Newsweek goes by without an criminal charges. Muslims died, Americans died because of these Abu Gharib stationed, solicited and planted stories meant to hinder the war effort.
Would it be proper to indict David Rockefeller as it was his meandering players which did this, YOU BET. But in knowing how the real world does work, let us leave Rockefeller in exchange for his throwing this ilk to the Military Courts where they can be tried and convicted. Whereby, sentence should be carried out for mass murder as that is what this ilk instigated.
There is no justice in New Republic admissions. Let the US Military try this case and whatever they decide all of America can then live with as justice, if not have the Iraqi Courts try them as they seemed to have done an adequate job with Saddam and his Islamocommunist comrades.
