No Media Firestorm After Democratic Gov. Bredesen Uses Racial Slur

It has been five days since Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen used an offensive ethnic slur to describe the Chinese workers who built the railroads across the American West in the 1800s. Bredesen used the term in a dispatch he wrote and emailed to some Tennessee newspapers while traveling in Beijing.

The ensuing media firestorm has yet to, well, ensue. Terry Frank explains why Bredesen's rude language won't be his "macaca moment," and takes issue with Bredesen's attempt to portray himself as the victim in the story. (He blames the newspapers for not editing his piece and, contradictorily, for suggesting the word might be offensive.)

Oh, did I mention that Bredesen is a liberal Democrat? That may explain why the media firestorm never ensued.

Why are you surprised?

Why are you surprised? A lib could say whatever he wants and get a free pass.

Libs can say any words they

Libs can say any words they want, because, as we all know, "they are down for the struggle".

It's OK to be a racist if

It's OK to be a racist if you're a Democrat...  Just ask Robert KKK Byrd or Hitlery "f---ing J-w Bas---d" Rodham-Clinton...

But if you're a Republican, you are automatically a racist even when you're not.

But if you're a Republican,

But if you're a Republican, you are automatically a racist even when you're not.

You can always tell when libs are attacking a Republican. The media will claim they are either gay or racist. Those are libs' two favorite names to call people. Third most popular being "just plain stupid."

Didn't have to look this one up

At least I knew immediately what this particular epithet was.  I had to look up the macaca thing.  You still really have to dig to find out that that one is a slur.  But, alas, there will be nothing done to put this out to the public because he is a Dem.  Maybe my bretheren out there can explain something to me, because I really have a hard time wrapping my head around it.

How did reality become skewed to the point where the party of the Confederacy, the Dixiecrats and the KKK end up being the party of racial equality?

coolie ?

was that coolie or collie .. maybe he can blame his spell check .. could have been better (or worse, depending on viewpoint) .. chinks, gooks on the wire ..

It takes conservative

It takes conservative kindling to make a media firestorm...

Reaching for Racism

There is racism as an example and then there is racism in Breseden. People need to learn to pick their examples as if Breseden is racist for using coolie then so are history books, books about the building of Africa's railroads where coolies were fed to lions and people from Roosevelt to Capstick.

Out of respect for this site I do not use terms which are termed racist as I already had two little lurkers post hits on what I stated because they needed something to type and racism is the sword for ignorant ranters.

There was nothing in context of Breseden using coolie which showed it racism. He will get a pass as he is not running for office and George Allen was laid out to dry as there is a movement to rid government of Conservatives.

I have no problem using roundhead, hick, redneck, coolie and I will avoid the negroid slang term originating from the British in India to describe blacks there (yes coolies was a term for Indians too, but they were the original n word people and it had no different meaning than that of black.) when they are used in context.
In reading a book abou the northwest Indians by Teddy Roosevelt, there was an Indian there who decided that Chinese coolies were not human so it was ok to kill them.

But then there are lurkers here who will state that Indian is racist and they should be called "native Americans", but since all evidence proves that Indians were immigrants to America from Japanese lineage and not in the least the "first Americans" as some reaching minds in Canada try to equate them.........all of it is bogus. One can not stand around and say, "Hey those people" as there are too many groups in history to deal with.

The real question is why has there not been one posting on Newsbusters exposing the racism of the Democrats in creating Barak Obama out of nothing in order to con black people into voting for white Democrats.......and after the election Obama and blacks will once again be shown the door.
That is racism in a perfect example of using someone for race, degrading them because of race and then expelling them because of race.

In historical context coolie is defined as a day laborer. Byrd, Stark... were truly racists.

It is just as well you did

It is just as well you did not mention Bredesen is a liberal Democrat, since he is not.

As for "coolie" being offensive...maybe so, but it's news to me, and I suspect most people.

Just like macaca was to the rest of us eh.

James2306, my guess is most

James2306, my guess is most folks have heard the word "coolie" but consider [or at least formerly considered] it fairly benign, while, on the other hand, were not even familiar with the term "macaca", and thus had no immediate opinion about its offensiveness.
