Sour Grapes at Rotten Tomatoes, Listed Palin Movie as 'Science Fiction and Fantasy'

By Aubrey Vaughan | July 13, 2011 | 14:28

Earlier this morning, Washington Times blogger Kerry Picket discovered an unusual listing on the popular movie rating website Rotten Tomatoes. The new Sarah Palin documentary, 'The Undefeated,' was categorized not only as a documentary, but also as science fiction and fantasy.

Since Picket's blog was posted, the science fiction and fantasy tag has been removed, but it begs the question of why the film was categorized in the same listing as the fantasy tales of 'X-Men,' 'Pirates of the Caribbean,' and 'Transformers' in the first place.

The removal of the improper tag came without explanation or apology from Rotten Tomatoes.

In looking into the categorization of other political documentaries, from former Vice President Al Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth' to conservative director Ray Griggs's 'I Want Your Money,' the films were all categorized only under the labels of documentary and special interest, not any less flattering labels.

Perhaps Rotten Tomatoes will pass it off as a simple mistake, but the choice of science fiction and fantasy, among all the other categories under which 'Undefeated' could have accidentally been placed, makes you think otherwise.

Ignorance

If I had to guess, there was likely someone at rotten tomatoes that simply knew nothing about the movie and placed it as 'fantasy' from pure ignorance.

Sorry Fredy I don't think so...

I think they saw Sarah Palin on the promo and immediately decided that to deman her was the right thing to do!

And you expect different from Warner Brothers?

I removed RT from my favorites list when they were purchased by Warner Brothers. I understand it's just a conglomeration of critiques from across the Country, but having a major entertainment entity as the owner ... I imagine anything WB would get some preferential treatment.

Anyway, as far as SP. You don't think Liberal Hollywood would treated her any different from what they have been doing, did you?

Really?

You have to be kidding!! Someone deliberately placed a pro-Palin documentary in S.F. because they didn’t think a word of it was true, plain & simple. Of course you’ll never find out who did it but it is obvious WHY!

GL was good, it followed the comic very closely in story line.

The success of the super-hero films of the past 15 years or so has been their adaptations  of the comics into film, vice creating new Hollywood stuff for them. Afterall, those books sell because the fans love the characterizations, the plots, and the artwork.  Why mess with success?

Green Lantern does that well, and manages to fit a lot of GL lore into a single film.  I wouldn't rank it as high as the Spider-Man films or several of the Batman flicks, but it delivers.  Apparently the critics wanted something else.

Rotten Tomatoes may have to

Rotten Tomatoes may have to worry about "Revenge of the Killer Tomatoes".
