MSNBC Hosts Spin Wildly After Weiner Fesses Up

By Aubrey Vaughan | June 09, 2011 | 18:35

A  A

In a desperate attempt to save Rep. Anthony Weiner, who has even been abandoned by the leaders of his own party, MSNBC is still refusing to acknowledge that Weiner's actions should jeopardize his House seat.

Lawrence O'Donnell, host of "The Last Word," ridicules the idea that lying should be grounds for resignation, Rachel Maddow, host of "The Rachel Maddow Show," describes the situation as "more gossip than news," and Cenk Uygur, MSNBC political commentator, says that "he lied, so what."

(Videos after the break)

While the remarks from MSNBC are not all that surprising, their refusal to even consider the idea of Weiner's resignation are, following many prominent Democrats calling for him to step down.

In O'Donnell's take on Weinergate, he thinks American politics are is moving in a "more prudish direction" following "a brief detour in the 90s toward the French and accepting everything Clintonian."

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Maddow similarly says Weiner should not be held responsible because he did not win his seat based off his sexual morality, which is apparently not necessary for good judgement in other areas.

Finally, Uygur maintains that even though Weiner did lie, it doesn't compromise his overall political standards. He references his own past when sympathizing with Weiner, asking, "You know how many times, when I was single and I had girlfriends, you know how many times that I lied to them? What does that mean? That you're not responsible on any other issue?'

The same misguided talking point is espoused from each of these MSNBC journalists: Weiner's lapse in moral judgement should not reflect an overall lack in political judgement. Of course, if the same story was unfolding about a Republican congressman, their opinions would be much different.

During his apology, Weiner

Submitted by tcm14 on Thu, 06/09/2011 - 6:43pm.

During his apology, Weiner said he had not done anything to violate his oath to uphold the Constitution. How much is an oath worth from a guy who baldfacedly lied to America on national TV for 10 days?

Why don't these MSNBC shills just come right out and say it? "He lied, but he's a Democrat! It's okay!"

I hope he doesn't resign and the media keeps up the feeding frenzy on Weiner
and
that MSNBC every night has to go out and defend the little turd.
I hope the Dems keep calling for his resignation and that he digs his heels in and becomes the old Weiner with the pompous self righteous arrogance that got him into this wonderful Alice in pornoland story.
I also hope the Repubs shut up and let the Dems eat themselves. a little prodding now and again but they have had their share of scandals and should not be finger pointing.
It's more fun to watch them eviscerate themselves.

The Dolts

Submitted by TC Lynch on Thu, 06/09/2011 - 7:00pm.

They are banging away to defend their favorite guest like the fangirls who Weiner was sending pics. Maddow and Uyger keep howling about Vitter still being in the Senate, but skip over the fact that after he got in trouble, the voters in his state gave him 57% of the vote and sent him back to DC.

I hope Weiner does not resign. I want him there, the neutered "pitbull," who anytime he gets near a camera or microphone will be mocked and reviled, an albatross handing around the DNC's neck.

Weiner blamed the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy for his problem, just like Hillary blamed the VRWC on the Today Show when Bill was in the middle of the Lewinsky scandal. Hillary knew the real story when she blamed conservatives, so did Weiner.

I guess that kind of behavior is okay with the folks at MSNBC who still want to see Weinergagte as nothing more than a sex scandal. When you cover-up a sex scandal, it's no longer about the sex, it's about the cover-up.

There's something seriously wrong with the folks over there as MSNBC.

So Weiners oath of office is sacrosanct...

Submitted by USMC8411 on Thu, 06/09/2011 - 7:51pm.

But his oath to his wife is NOT? He stabbed his wife, who is carrying his unborn child, in the back every single time he tweeted his BS to another woman. Not to mention the scumbag pictures.

We are to believe that this scumbag holds his oath of office in higher esteem than the oath he made to a woman he gave his name to? The same woman that will bear his child?

A dog will not defecate where it sleeps. Weiner sh!t all over his wife, his unborn baby, and the rest of the country. Where has his PRIDE gone? What legacy will that child have, if not aborted by "pro choice" supporter parents?

From wikipedia: The defecation cycle:

In the adult human, the process of defecation, or the defecation cycle, is normally a combination of both voluntary and involuntary processes.

This jerk did it voluntarily. And the msm tries to wipe up the mess...

Remember one thing about this horrible network

Submitted by djwolf12 on Thu, 06/09/2011 - 8:05pm.

Weiner was always on this network preaching his Progressive crap to the masses over there and they swooned to this POS with every word he had to say. The hosts on that channel demonize traditional marriage and anyone that is pro-life. They are pro-Jack Kavorkien and Pro-Dr. Tiller, aand especially anti-religious. Traditional values are what Progressives despise, and anyone who disagrees with Progressives would probably deserve a visit from the Progressive Brownshirts. These people have taken their masks off and we see them for who they really are. I will tell you this: Election Night 2012 on M.S.S.R. will go down in the ANALs of television history when Barack Milhaus Nixon and his Socialist Progressives in the US Government get thrown out on their asses. The disgusting hosts on this network WILL NOT hold any of their rage and hatred towards the anti progressivism American people in a way that should garnish the heaviest of fines from the FCC.

Semper Fi, recruiter

Submitted by bkeyser on Thu, 06/09/2011 - 8:08pm.

You're on target with this- MSNBC, and other Weiner supporters (ha) are trying to move the narrative from his predatory acts and complete disrespect for women, religion, and his office to the thing that we all know politicians in general do best: lying.

It's not the lying; that I could leave to his constituents to judge. His despicable acts are the reason he is unworthy -which is a hard thing to be (ha, again) given the basic nature of democratic pols. In the Corps- you'd get time then a big chicken dinner.

The hard part would be facing my pregnant wife, after she found out about it through the media, who continue to blame Breitbart for the revelation of my very own perversions! "Breitbart, the known liar...". Exactly what did Breitbart lie about here? I saw the Michael Maddow Show (That's no woman...I mean, check out the double Adam's apple on that gullet...) drag out Breitbart's liberal progressive equal, the great larry flynt! Or should I say that they wheeled him out?
Mr. Flynt, and I quote: "I uuugghhh thinkkaahhh Brrreeitbaarrrrhdt izzz ahhh frauuhhhdddd!"

Bob Livingson RESIGNED in 1998 for his infractions, as the republicans rightfully went after the country's first black president, William Jefferson Blythe Clinton. And Chris Lee went away asap. Slick Willey still signed the big chicken dinner for accused adulterers serving in uniform while he enjoyed cigars and pizza in the Oral Orifice. Ted Kennedy killed a woman and LIED about the whole incident. He went on to become a crusader for the rights of women and every time Chappaquiddick is brought up, the media cry foul! Bwarney "Hot Bottom" Fwank, Gerry" No ID required boy intern" Studds, Jerry "Take a personal Check?" Springer, Jim "Gay American" McGreevey, (Surprise honey, I like boys! It's on the news now...), Jesse "Illegitimate Child" Jackson, Gary "Hairless" Condit, Eliot "Client #9" Spitzer, Chris "Waitress Sandwich with Teddy" Dodd... And those are just the sex scandals...

A Jewish man treats a Muslim woman like this, and it is not a recruiting tool for the jihad johnny gang? Where is the Muslim community on this? Silence, as demonstrated after 9/11, is agreement. This silence is deafening!

Larry O'dumbo's guest, Melanie Sloan, said...

Submitted by USMC8411 on Fri, 06/10/2011 - 12:33am.

"Right. They are trying to say that this, this is gonna hinge on the misuse of official resources but frankly people use official resources all the time to make phone calls, to make their weekend plans, they send a fax, ahh they send an email and all of that is permissible. So it's really hard to see exactly what the ethics committee would hang its hat on here to say this conduct, this is what violates the ethics rules. Others who said maybe it's the lying, what so, so now no politician has ever lied to us before? I mean that's the kind of thing, we see it all the time. So, I... I, he did behave dis credibly, but I don't think it's enough for a full fledged ethics... ahh um censure."

OH REALLY? ALL elected officials send pictures of their genitals using government resources? Please name them! THEN they lie about it, after calling a press conference to deny it, on our time and our dime? Spin it all you want honey, but politicians who use government property for personal use or gain, are wrong. We pay for the office phone to conduct government business. The elected officials can most certainly afford a personal communications device to conduct personal business, and should do so. Then they can tweet weeners anytime they want, except while in the performance of their duties. Because politicians lie to us all the time, it does NOT MAKE IT RIGHT, nor should we allow them to get away with it! Shame on your arrogant defense of a potential sexual predator.

Let's see what the creep did on our time, and how he did it, before we hang him. If we send this example to the ruling class, they may begin to see the light... If not... to the gallows!

Hey Melanie, is it ok for your girlfriend to tweet nekkid genital pictures to A Weiner? How would you "feel" if A. Weiner twitted his genitals to your mother, sister, teenage daughter, or girfriend? Would that be ethical?

Melanie Sloan. With citizens for responsibility and ethics in Washington... Really? Sounds like 1984 doublespeak to me. What a damn joke. Don't we have a waste, fraud, and abuse department in the government? Shouldn't they be looking into citizens for responsibility and ethics for fraud, and then at themselves for waste and abuse for NOT going after the ethics committee?
As Jenkoff Uigur would howl... "Of couuuurrse...." And that's the media scum-job of the day.
