Time magazine, November 26, 2007 (Michael Grunwald):
[Georgia's] drought was a natural event transformed into a natural disaster by human folly. And while it's still hard to say whether global warming caused any particular drought or flood or fire, it's going to cause more of all of them.
Time magazine, June 24, 1974:
In Africa, drought continues for the sixth consecutive year, adding terribly to the toll of famine victims... Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age.

But let me boast of the wonderful abundance of rain showered down on West Texas this past summer, and the "anecdotal card" gets played.

November 21, 2007 - 09:33 ET by Free StinkerI think he took it wit him, but we all know he's secretly still on the shadow governments payroll.
That's how Bush will stay in power post-Jan 2009, after Rove creates a weather emergency.

November 21, 2007 - 09:49 ET by danboHow could I not have thought about the shadow government. My error. I stand corrected.
And Rove would just want that much power to fall into the wrong hands. And Rove gets such a thrill causing that much pain and suffering.

Rove's weather machine makes more sense.
I'm sure he'll eventually realize people have left the other thread and moves over to enlighten us on the wonders of warmer science. (But then he might not be that bright.)
But he does have a lot of time before he has to go to his class (I suspect as a student.)

You probably already know about this study of the last hundred years of the media and climatemongering, but I supply it anyway. I do not remember where I first got this link from, maybe from this site or maybe even from one of your previous articles or Noel's, but just in case, I provide it.

AGW must be real because:
November 21, 2007 - 02:09 ET by Parker12271. It will force all those evil capitalists and consumers to choose a less "impact-full" way of life, and ideally "go tribal" again like the good-old-days (and maybe even commune with nature like Pocahontas).
2. The economic hit of transitioning HALF the electric grid away from coal power will hurt the evil imperialist United States and put it in its place; hopefully under the control of the morally superior United Nations.
3. Evil meat eaters will be forced to go vegan to take all the energy strain off the system caused by feeding grain to cows, hogs and chickens.
4. Evil rednecks will be forced to give up their scary pick-up trucks and ride the metro bus system like all good human beings do.
5. Good liberals always take the opposite side of issues from conservatives.

Drought - a sign of the Cherokee removal
November 21, 2007 - 03:03 ET by Gary HallDrought - a sign of the Cherokee removal. Then mad chief drylandrunner said to the white man, who would eventually create Time Magazine, that if you make us leave our homeland, this great and horrid drought will return in 2007 - shortly after the great leader the iceman cometh forth warns of a great time of ice.

Maybe so
November 21, 2007 - 09:28 ET by sarcasmoBut I've never heard of them. DeSoto's search for "El Dorado" is said to have taken him to the Gulf Coast of Florida, but I don't think Spanish soldiers ever found much gold when they got there. Sadly, the Cherokee were the most assimilated (and Christian, and intermarried-with-whites, as if any of that stuff mattered when gold & human greed was concerned!) tribe in America at the time this happened.

I was just looking it
November 21, 2007 - 09:44 ET by danboI was just looking it up. gold was discovered in North Carolina 1799 and 1803. The land was already in private hands or state lands so you didn't have rushers staking claims. But the farmers mined on their own land, and speculators rushed into get mining contracts or to out and out by the land and to start mining. I believe it started about Cabarrus county.

Thanks
November 21, 2007 - 09:51 ET by sarcasmoIt's interesting they also had the first attempt to follow a "vein" of gold, and that experience probably proved useful in California. Note the assumption in the piece that Cherokee land which was duly granted to them by treaty wasn't, somehow, the same as privately-owned land. Double-standards like that one, whether applied to land or to free speech, always work against human freedom.

November 21, 2007 - 10:05 ET by danboIf my memory is correct, At the time the Cherokee had their own judicial system, written language, schools and newspapers. And built some very nice homes and farms/plantations. But they were savages?
Those double standards will get you every time. Only half are allowed to speak. The other half will be silenced for everyone's good.
BTW I went through Dahlonega for the first time about 8 weeks ago. It looks like a really neat place. I want to get back there when I have the time and am not worried about bad rains.
Strange. A drought and I was driving through a heavy down pour for better than an hour.

November 21, 2007 - 07:53 ET by dahliatraversGreat find, Amy.
This also emphasizes the point that the global warming scare is in part a creation of the media. I can't help thinking that with the media's affection for politicians with a "D" after their name, AGW wouldn't have gotten off the ground the way it did under Al Gore's "leadership" if it had been a former Republican Vice President or President "sounding the alarm".
I will definately second
November 21, 2007 - 10:02 ET by Sick-n-TiredI will definately second that!! Tasty info indeed! I wonder if Time even knows or cares about their bias.
And Dahlia, that is a good point; the ominous AGW would have probably never got traction under a person with and "R" behind their name----regardless of whether it was/is the party of conservation....
