Tony Snow Passes at 53 of Colon Cancer - Godspeed, Tony

We’ve lost another giant today. I was prepared to go straight to bed after having stayed up all night watching movies, but as I tuned to the TV, I saw that one of my favorite people, Tony Snow, had passed. I could not be sadder. He was only 53 years old, and colon cancer took his life. The world is missing a great friend today. Godspeed, Tony.

Too Soon

I am truly at a loss for words. I believe Tony Snow was one of the classiest defenders conservative values I have ever heard. He was smart, quick on his feet, and above all kind.

If you heard him speak you knew his priorities: his God, his family, his country. May each be a comfort to his wife and children this sad passing has left behind.

I am in mourning

Today I have lost a friend... I miss Tony already, and the world is losing out on a true masterpiece of mankind.

Rest in peace Tony Snow.

Rest in peace Tony Snow. Truly a sad day.

RIP

A very sad day.

Tony Snow was one of the most inspiring human beings I'd ever listened to. Its not fair that he had to leave us so early in his life. He will be missed and impossible to replace.

My heart felt condolences to

My heart felt condolences to Tony's family.  We will all miss him.

Remembered Joy

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free!
I follow the plan God laid for me.
I saw His face, I heard His call,
I took His hand and left it all...
I could not stay another day,
To love, to laugh, to work or play;
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
And if my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss...
Ah yes, these things I, too, shall miss.
My life's been full, I've savoured much:
Good times, good friends, a loved-one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief—
Don't shorten yours with undue grief.
Be not burdened with tears of sorrow,
Enjoy the sunshine of the morrow.

Absolutly beautiful.

Thank you for sharing.

I knew he was sicker than he made out. He didn't complain about it. He as a classy guy. Nobody in the liberal media could hold a candle compared to him. We've lost another great American. RIP Tony.

By all accounts Tony Snow a

By all accounts Tony Snow was a decent, kind human being, and a much loved father and husband.

All decent people will say a prayer for him and his family -- and for all of our brothers and sisters who suffer in pain today, with illness.

I know that we can expect a torrent of filth from the usuasl suspect extreme leftist websites.

While that will be rightly exposed here for what it is, I would suggest we do not need to repoduce the actual words of gleeful and gloating hatred on Newsbusters.

It makes me sick enough to even think people could be so consumed with a monstrous viciousness to write this stuff, without accidentally reading it as well.

Sadly, you are probably right...

but I am not even going to go and look.  I am sure there was some "glee" going on with the passing of Denise Gallagher (Mike's wife).  Some of the commentors (and commentators) on those sights suffer a total lack of decency and decorum.

One expects it with blunt, undiplomatic persons, such as Jesse Helms, but the moonbats spare almost no one associated with the "right side of the aisle".  Family members are not immune, even when they are ill or when they pass away.

When it is Ted Kennedy's turn, let's be civil and "hold our tongues", as someone has to hold the moral high ground.  There will be time later to relate the damage that he did to this country (and other countries).

You know we will always take the moral high ground

on-the-rocks, you are so right. Even when it is Kennedy's turn, there will not be the avalanche of hate that we're seeing today from the left fringe.

My heart goes out to his

My heart goes out to his wife, children, close family, and friends. I never knew him personally but it was a real treat to hear his speech at the 2008 MRC Gala. I think I can speak for everyone at NewsBusters and the MRC that we'll deeply miss him.

You can find that Gala speech here, I think we may post it in a separate blog post a bit later.

Sad

He was just a good ole Kentucky boy (he was born in Berea, Ky.)

He was always my favorite. I listened to his radio show whenever I could. I just read a story in which members of the press complained that the turned the White House Press Secretary position into something more about personality than substance.

It's funny that they said that considering the presidential candidate they all love, adore, and worship.

Farewell, Mr. Snow. God bless your family.

Just listened to Barbara

Just listened to Barbara Bush phning in to Fox with the President HW Bush, clearly very upset, but talking about the ABSOLUTE LOYALTY of Tony Snow.

Tony Snow Passes Into History

-By Warner Todd Huston

It was said of Abraham Lincoln upon his passing that "now he belongs to the ages," and that is the same sentiment I find myself feeling upon learning that Tony Snow has died of colon cancer today at age 53.

The Bush administration released a statement through current press secretary Dana Perino, she who inherited Mr. Snow's warm podium, upon Mr. Snow's passing saying, "The White House has lost a great friend and a great colleague. We all loved watching him at the podium, but most of all we learned how to love our families and treat each other."

This couldn't be better said. I last met Tony Snow at the MRC Dishonor awards (see picture of Tony and I) only but a few short months ago and a more gracious man one could never meet. Snow was tasked with delivering the keynote address and his words were, as always, filled with grace, good humor, and optimism even as he must have known he wasn't long for this world.

And after his address, after the festivities of the night ended, Mr. Snow happily stayed for pictures and questions from those in attendance. Even as many of the other notable speakers (Ann Coulter and Cal Thomas for instance) quickly made for the exits, Tony Snow, despite his debilitating illness, stayed, shook hands, stood for photos and bantered with the attendees of the dinner. That is how my ugly mug got snapped standing next to this fine, fine American.

This is a sad loss for America. But let us remain as humble as Tony Snow in our assessment. The country will go on, of course. Tony Snow wasn't the end all and be all of America and his passing won't end our great experiment in self government. He would be offended, I'm sure, if we made too much of his passing. He was too humble a man for that.

But it will be a tad colder and less friendly as well as a bit less optimistic now that this wonderful fellow has passed on to his just rewards.

Rest in peace, Tony Snow. We'll miss that sunny countenance and thoughtful commentary we'd become so used to. A hale fellow well met has passed, but his lessons of self determination and his surety that these United States is not a failed premise will stay with us forever.

C-Span, MSNBC and CNN can go to hell.

Do not turn on C-SPAN. Its a bunch of "independants", calling in to trash Tony. CNN also did a story that trashed him. These people have no class and are no longer Americans to me.

I refused to listen this morning to Washinton Journal for your very reason posted...

...anger isn't something I could handle this morning as I shed tears about Tony passing...

The Journal has already sunk to lows with their callers, and they do nothing about it it at all with all their lines getting invaded by the looney hate-filled leftists that I do not listen much anymore as it is...I already had an idea what these nutcases would be saying...

Disgraceful is what this country has become with a lot of people, no honor, respect, decorum or class in the least.

God bless Tony and his family

I was introduced to Tony through his columns in the Conservative Chronicle, and then as a broadcaster as one of the earliest guest hosts on Rush's program.  I'm anxious to hear what Rush will have to say on Monday.  I hate the thought that conservatism has lost one of its great advocates.

I don't want to touch off a religious debate, but because of his faith I believe Tony is at rest in the presence of his Lord.  God bless him and his family.

I've always loved these verses, and often think of them when a special Person of God has passed.  God has taken him to be with Him.  Tony Snow knew the way to the place where He is.

I woke up this morning to put on the news and find this out =( Not a good way to start the day at all. May Snow rest in peace and God bless his family; he was truly a great man.

Wasn't Tony great?

Wasn't Tony great? Who will we have to kick the old bag Helen Thomas around anymore? For the most part, he was even kind to her, and that's saying something.

Tony did an excellent job. He improved our lives.

53 is way to young.  He

53 is way to young.  He sure packed lots of life into those years, though, didn't he?  Striked me as the kind of guy that hit the ground running every morning.  Ya did good, Tony!

:-(

I'm at a loss for words. :-(

God bless you Tony

America has lost a conservative warrior and example of strong moral character. There will be a gap in the media without him.

I hope Tony is enjoying his reward in a place much nicer than this.

Class Act

Man, this just hits you where it hurts. Anyone who watched Tony whether they were on the left, right or center could tell he was a class act all the way around. He had "that something" about him which I suspect was a result of his ability to live life by putting his faith and family above all else. It certainly showed in the mans character. Godspeed Tony. Perhaps one day I'll have a chance to shake your hand and tell you what an influence you were in my life even though we never met. Until then I'll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers and do my best to help others carry on the torch in your honor and the honor of those who fought the good fight and passed before you.

How so very sad. T. Snow will be greatly missed, and should be missed by people on both sides of the ailse. How very sad that we lose the likes of Snow and Russert within a month of each other. Whether their views disagreed with a persons own personal view they were both equally respectable and truly gentlemen. I guess it is true, only the good die young. AP rips Tony Snow's memory

I was astounded at the callousness in which an AP article eulogized Tony Snow today. There is was, on my home page, when I clicked on the Internet and the Yahoo home page came up.

Read my blog, tell me what you think. http://garyganu.blogspot.com/2008/07/i-was-astounded-at-callousness-in-which.html

Despicable

Good link, gary.  Shows the true character of the far left liberal scum, but I believe Tony is looking down and laughing at them as they spew their bile at his passing, and if it's one thing these bottom-feeders cannot tolerate, it is being laughed off.  Time to get some pictures of these vermin and do a little photo-shopping.

He won't be laughing. He

He won't be laughing. He will be truly saddened that they are who they are. He will feel pity.

God Bless Tony

Truly a sad day for America.  He was such a decent and honest, down-to-earth man that earned respect among both sides of the political arena.  God rest you, Tony Snow - you made the world a better place in the short time you had here.  My prayers go out to your family.

Cooling, With a Chance of Snow

If only those words were true.

If only we would have one more chance to see Tony Snow. He made each of us feel special.

I am heartsick.

IT IS HIS SMILE STUPID

Tony Snow was a wonderful joyous soul whose smile ALWAYS lead the way.

Knowing Tony was blessed to know the LORD should ease the pain for his family, friends, and people like me who never had the pleasure of his company, but admired him from afar.

He is loved and he will be missed.

Speaking with my 24 year old son today on the phone, I told him of Tony's passing.

He told me how strange it was because he was watching a white house briefing the other day and thought to himself, "I wonder where Tony Snow is."

We don't have to wonder anymore.

Tony is in the hands of GOD.

Blessings to his family.

you're outta here

I was interested to read Tony's bio. He burned brightly but left too soon. I'm reminded of Bruce Cockburn's "Closer to the Light" as a fitting farewell. RIP Tony.

Snow doing some Tull

I was searching out videos of Tony playing music and came across this one.  About half way thru, at 1:16, he picks up the flute and gets into some Tull.  At one point, he even went up onto one leg briefly.  LOL!  Pretty good, Tony!

Such sad news. He was so

Such sad news. He was so young and will be missed Greatly.

I am heartsick

I was so hoping he would be one of the ones to make it and would tell us about some new experimental drug that made all the difference that would help everyone in the future, but it was not to be.  I will miss his strong, quiet sensible voice representing the best in a conservative commentor; one I could be proud of and not cringe at.  Godspeed, Tony.

What an awful thing to wake up to

After a very early morning when I saw lots and lots of people I haven't seen in well over six months, I sat down in front of the computer to start taking care of business and opened up a few news sites as I worked.  Then I popped open NewsBusters and read that Tony Snow had died.

I remember well flipping on the radio back in the day expecting to hear Limbaugh but instead hearing Tony Snow.  I gritted my teeth and gave him a chance and found his analysis to be good and hius personality engaging.

He made Fox News Sunday a pleasant break from the other Sunday morning fare, laying the groundwork for Chris Wallace.

I didn't catch his own radio program that much, but was absolutely geeked to see him named the White House Press Secretary!  Watching him politely yet firmly slap around the hate-filled Leftists that populate the WH Press Corps was great.

What an utterly depressing bit of news to start off the day.  He will be sorely missed; my condolences to his familyu and all that have been touched by him in the slightest.
