Cry Babies: 'The View' Hosts Walk Out on O’Reilly During Heated Mosque Debate

By Alana Goodman | October 14, 2010 | 13:12

A  A

If you can’t stand the heat, then don’t invite Bill O’Reilly on your show to talk about current events. Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar flew off the handle during a live taping of “The View” on Thursday, storming off-stage during a dispute with O’Reilly over the Ground Zero mosque.

O’Reilly set the two women off after he said that, “Muslims killed us on 9/11.” Goldberg took offense at the statement, exclaiming “That is such bull----!”

“Extremists did that!” yelled a clearly agitated Goldberg. “What religion was Mr. McVeigh? There was an extremist as well and he killed people --”

(video below fold)

At that point Behar stood up angrily, telling O’Reilly that, “I don't want to sit here. I don't. I'm outraged by that statement.”

“You're outraged about Muslims killing us on 9/11?” O’Reilly asked, bewilderedly, as both Behar and Goldberg fled the stage.

“The View” co-host Barbara Walters immediately apologized to the audience and O’Reilly, saying “I want to say something. I want to say something to all of you. You have just seen what should not happen. We should be able to have discussions without washing our hands and screaming and walking offstage. I love my colleagues. It should not have happened.”

Transcript below:

Bill:  Let me give an example. The mosque, the mosque down here on 9/11. That's inappropriate. Sure, they have a right to do it, in the constitution. But it's inappropriate because a lot of the 9/11 families, who I know, say, look, we don't want that. It shouldn't be there.

Barbara: But what about the discussion --

Bill: no, no, no. There is the president going ‘they have a right to do it. ‘

Joy: Yes, this is America. This is America.

Bill: Hold it. Hold it. Listen to me because you'll learn. [Audience: Ooh]

Joy: Pinhead! Pinhead!

[Cheers and applause]

Bill: So he says to the press, yeah, they have a right to do it. And that's true. And then the question is but what about the wisdom of it, Mr. President? And he goes I'm not gonna comment. Where-upon everybody in the country goes “What”?

Whoopi: Well, wait a minute. Let me ask you this.

Bill: That is the gulf between us.

Whoopi: You're saying that Americans are not smart enough to recognize that, while it is part of our Constitution to say freedom of religion and freedom to worship and there were 70 families who are Muslim who also died in that building. So you're saying that his saying that they have the right to do it and not saying any more than that is why his approval rating has gone down?

Joy: That’s so un-American.

Bill: No. I'm showing that there is a gulf between -- Americans wanted to know what his opinion was on the issue and he wouldn't give it.

Joy: We're Americans. We agree with him.

Bill: You agree with him. Most Americans don't.

Joy: We’re Americans, I'm an American.

Bill: Let me break this to you. 70% of Americans don't want that mosque down there, so don’t give me the “we” bull.

[Applause]

Joy: Where is that poll? I want to see that poll.

Bill: You want to bet on that? I'll show you that poll in a minute.

Joy: All I'm saying is I'm American, too.

Bill: Seventy percent don't want it down there.

Whoopi: But why is that? Why are we saying --

Bill: Because it's inappropriate.

Whoopi: Why is it inappropriate when 70 families died, what are you talking about?

Bill: Because Muslims killed us on 9/11.

Whoopi: No! Not, oh, my god. That is such bull----!

Bill: Muslims didn't kill us on 9/11? Is that what you’re saying?

Whoopi: Extremists did that! What religion was Mr. McVeigh? There was an extremist as well and he killed people --

Bill: I'm telling you, 70 percent of the country --

Joy: I don't want to sit here. I don't. I'm outraged by that statement.

Bill: You're outraged about Muslims killing us on 9/11?

[Joy and Whoopi exit stage]

[Cheers and applause]

Barbara: I want to say something. I want to say something to all of you. You have just seen what should not happen. We should be able to have discussions without washing our hands and screaming and walking offstage. I love my colleagues. It should not have happened.

Yes, Babs, you're right, "We should be able to have discussions without washing our hands and screaming and walking offstage."

But the problem is liberals don't have discussions. Liberals need a stacked deck, they need a friendly audience, they need a friendly media, they need total dominance of the media, the schools and all other avenues of informational exchange, or they are in danger of having the complete idiocy of their ideas exposed and thereby discredited.

I'm sure Babs knows this, but she had to say something reasonable to make up, in some slight way, for the embarrassment Joyless and Whoopdi-do made of themselves.

Rad...I think Walters

Submitted by Jer on Thu, 10/14/2010 - 2:57pm.

I think Walters has always been, in Blitzer's words, 'sort of a relatively moderate liberal'.

On the other hand, Behar and Goldberg are unstomachable leftists.

Opinion shows do better out of power

Submitted by KC Mulville on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 3:30am.

If the Dems go down, I bet the ratings of the liberal shows inch back up, and Fox goes down a bit. Liberal shows are where they'll go to nurse their wounds.

FoxNews skyrocketed last year, when non-liberals felt under-represented. FoxNews gave them a place to go. If the GOP gets back into power, FoxNews might slow down a bit.

Interesting, isn't it? When you have your party in power (even if it's only one house), then government is where you go. If you're out of power, you go to the media. The government is where they debate and make decisions. The media is where they debate only. (Yes, I know that neither the government nor the media engage in real debate, nor honest debate, and certainly not entertaining debate ... but that's how it's supposed to work.)

I would've responded to their "Muslims died too" line with

Submitted by gopcongress on Thu, 10/14/2010 - 1:28pm.

This walkoff had to have been staged. If not Muslims, they would have walked off for any imagined Un-Socialist reason, to discredit O'Reilly.

I have to admit, Bill plays patsy-cake with the Constitution on occasion, but the actions by the communists in this country ("communist" as in "state-sanctioned socilist" aka USSR style politics) have clearly shown their true light.

Strictly ratings grabbing, nothing else.

This was likely just posturing by Walters...

Submitted by PrairieSky on Thu, 10/14/2010 - 1:31pm.

Does anyone really think that she is angry with Goldberg and Behar? Barbara Walters is a liberal just like those two libnut bubbleheads, and this was likely just her way of trying to look like she was taking the high road in the situation. This is another example of why I am not (and never have been) a viewer or a fan of this idiotic show...Why O'Reilly continues to go on The View, even to plug his books, I'll never know. Bill doesn't need the publicity to push his books...He can do that quite well on his own show. I think he goes on just to pull those idiot's chains, which he does very well. The fallout from this should be interesting to watch.

Submitted by PrairieSky on Thu, 10/14/2010 - 2:01pm.

I do think that Walters was caught off guard by Behar's and Goldberg's behavior, and she tried to cover her butt by making that statement. She is the "grand dame" of the show and likely wanted to be seen as being above the fray, and so she said what she did. I do think that she very likely agrees with Behar's and Goldberg's sentiments and attitudes, but won't behave like they do, for appearances sake.

...you're saying Al-Waleed has nearly six times as much influence with NewsCorp as he does with Time Warner? ,-)

The point in not influence with Fox or CNN.  He has virtually zero with either.

The point is how some of the GZ mosque opponents attempt to discredit the backers with far-fetched, convoluted connections to various terrorist or anti-Jewish organizations.

I did not see any of that here - far-fetched, convoluted connections to various terrorist or anti-Jewish organizations

I saw a troll bring a far left meme - the fox news shareholder funding meme.

And I saw you link to a story that only mentioned how the saudi guy was a fox news shareholder and not even mention the whole also a CNN shareholder.

@Martin2717  As Jer pointed out, Prince Bin Talal is a friend of Murdock's and has appeared several times on Fox News. What I found particularly hilarious though was when the "Ground Zero Mosque" controversy was at it's highest he was referred to as "An anonymous Saudi prince who funds radical madrases around the world" and the hosts of Fox and Friends wouldn't give out his name, instead showing you a picture of Imam Rauf. They used him as part of their "Ground Zero terror mosque" narrative when he is the second largest shareholder of their parent company. Sure, anyone can buy shares in a publicly traded company but not every shareholder gets to make appearances on Fox and hang out with Rupert Murdock.

He also pointed out that he owns common stock when I said he had preferred stock, which I admitted was an error on my part.

The funny thing is, Vet refused to watch the videos I've posted that point out exactly what I'm talking about, so why exactly is it my fault he refuses to actually review the evidence I put forward?

Real cowards

Submitted by Mestilf on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 7:51am.

Are those who wont even research a topic because it makes the people they like look bad. I have no problem bashing any liberal or progressive who does something wrong, or admitting I screwed up because I actually have principles. Vet thinks he caught me lying because he did a google search for Bin Talal's name appearing on Fox News. Completely ignoring the fact I've said several times that the guy has appeared personally on FNC to discuss financial stuff and his Kingdom firm.

Jer and I have posted links showing exactly what we're talking about and instead of just saying something mature like, "Oh well that's interesting, still doesn't change my opinion on the ground zero mosque, or O'reilly's comments on the View" I get called a liar, a retard, an idiot, I've been told to go to hell several times, and had to watch Vet vainly try to make some convoluted point about Bin Talal owning CNN when Talal has invested 6 times more into News Corp than Time Warner.

Honestly I don't really care what you think of me, because I've got the facts on my side, and I admitted I was wrong about Bin Talal owning preferred stock. Vet's admitted he's to much of a coward to watch about 15 minutes worth of youtube videos showing what I'm talking about.  The article Jer posted detailed pretty much everything we were talking about and yet it got seemingly ignored completely.

And, no, it's a typo dude. When I'm on here, I'm multitasking, I really don't give a rats ass whether I make a mistake here or there, which is why I don't try to show off my grammar nazi-ing abilities. I'm sure if I went through your posts I could find something you typed wrong by mistake. It's petty and stupid and distracts from the discussion we're trying to have.

So again, if you can point out where I've lied about factual information, feel free to point it out to me. Preferably in a PM because I'm over this discussion. Until then I'm ignoring Vet until he grows a pair and actually takes the time to research what we're talking about instead of taking the lazy way out and throwing around half-assed google searches that don't prove anything what so ever.

Extremists

Submitted by forest on Thu, 10/14/2010 - 1:40pm.

"Extremists" is getting old.  You could make the "it was just the extremists that did that" argument about any violent group in history.   "Most of group X didn't kill anybody!  It was just the extremists!"  You can put anything in place of the X.  This doesn't mean that there aren't ideological problems across most or all of the group that allow the so called "extremists"  to carry on.

Man, liberals are stupid.  And the dumber they get, the more adamant they are about it (see storming off stage).

When liberals are losing

Submitted by Secret Conservative on Thu, 10/14/2010 - 1:57pm.

When a liberal is losing an argument, they either storm off (usually spouting some kind of insulting invective) or they turn really mean, and make nasty personal remarks toward the person they are arguing with.  THEN they storm off and you get the silent treatment for several days.

I've been married to a liberal for 20 years, and he cannot have a reasonable discussion about politics.  It always end up with him screaming "racist" or some other lib talking point insult - and this is BEFORE it starts getting personal and nasty.

Liberals At Work Here!

Submitted by DaMama on Thu, 10/14/2010 - 1:44pm.

This just proves that liberals don't want to discuss anything.  They run on their emotions, not facts.  Goldberg and Behar are foolish twits who don't know fact from fiction.

FACT:  Muslim extremists ran those planes into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and hijacked United 93.  Their sole purpose was to kill as many people as possible.  They were MUSLIMS.  They admitted on tape that they did this in the name of Allah.  Allah is worshipped by Muslims only.

FACT:  McVeigh was NOT a Christian.  Just because someone says they are a Christian does not make it so.  To be a Christian, you must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, Savior of the world, died for our sins, rose again, and is coming back.  You must believe the Bible is the inerrant word of God.  You must live by biblical precepts.  McVeigh was NONE of these.  Just because I go to an auto parts store, buy an oil filter and 5 quarts of oil does not make me a mechanic.  Many people claim to be Christian, but their actions dictate otherwise.

FACT:  Goldberg and Behar base everything on emotions.  They hate anyone who disagrees with their liberal standpoint.  All you have to do is watch them on this travesty called "The View" to see what they believe and what they espouse as "truth".  If you can stomach it you can try and watch Behar's show, but it is so bad, it is always at the bottom of the ratings.  These women are bullies, haters, bigots, anti-Christian, anti-freedom of speech, and exemplify everything that is wrong with liberals today.

To quote one of my favorite lines from "The Untouchables":  Thus endeth the lesson.

Ah, you can't insult leftists and muslims.  They are in the same family tree.  But Catholics/Christians and Americans/Tea Partiers?  Oh that's fine.  Jesus is scum and Catholics don't cut your head off with a rusty butterknife.  And arresting people for Gadsden flag bumper stickers just makes sense.

It's so plain isn't it.  Iran isn't called Iran for nothing.  A fellow leftist helped them with that name.  Adolph Hitler, proud member of the National German Socialist Workers Union.

Socialists, Communists, and Muslims are brothers in arms.  But in the end they all kill each other, and then devolve into monkey-like primates.

Ahh...  an insult to that commi hooker's family nearly brought her from stupid to tears "You're outraged about Muslims killing us on 9/11?"  How can you be so cruel O'Reilly?

For starters, none of those old hags except Baba Wawa has any sense anyway. Hasselbeck is the token conservative so they can say they have "balance." Whoopi, well who cares what an actress who does little more than curse thinks anyway?

From my Southern perspective, this is proof as to how limited (as well as hypocritical) Left-wing nutbags like Behar are. I would have asked her about the Confederate flag - an issue that every Northerner insists on sticking his nose into but suddenly withdraws from opposition on this. Oh, one more thing - put Sarah Palin in the Bronx for a week and Behar in Alaska. Which one would actually live to be on the show the next week? I'll give you a hint - it ain't Josephina

Submitted by Avitar on Thu, 10/14/2010 - 5:28pm.

The problem is that the first comandment of Islam is to kill all muslims who becomes unislamic.   As a muslim you can not feel safe unless you are the most extreme muslim in the valley.

There are Christians who think that the injunction "suffer not a witch to live" is not an option and that anyone who does not burn witches is not a good Christian.  But there is no comand to purify the faith in Christianity so the pope can argue with O'Rielly and nobody pulls out the butcher's tools.   A flying naked nun on a broomstick might set one or both of them off but they can discuss weither she would be a witch  without fear.

Except that it's completely pointless

Submitted by Quasi-socialist on Thu, 10/14/2010 - 10:08pm.

He earns return from one group, Newscorp, and donates money to the other, the Mosques. So, that despite that Fox News editorializes against the Mosque, he's not going to cut ties with an investment that's making him money--so it's at best a tension and not some collusion.

Nobody can stop him from purchasing Newscorp's stock--and if Newscorp tried, I'm sure we'd hear you all screeching Islamaphobia about that, too.

So it's really pointless. And I think that you can't figure how to put it together, once again testifies to me how little thought liberals put into things.

His name was probably left out of things simply as a courtesy to a stock holder, just like shaking his hand and thanking him for his interest in the company.

Yeah, it's all reality. But just like a lot of reality, it means nothing definite.

On the other hands Muslims, crying "Allahu Ackbar", knocked down the twin towers. Muslims have a policy that it is okay to lie to infidels (just like Alinskyites, btw), the press fears offending muslims with non-depictions of Muhammad, as long as the name is mentioned. Rauf wants to build a tower at ground zero, and apparently extremists are involved in the fund-raising.

See how the arrows (if valid) all go in the same direction? That's called making a point.

Yes. it was Muslims who did

Submitted by Seabeach4348 on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 7:59am.

Yes. it was Muslims who did the dirty deed on 9/11; they were radical Muslims, but Muslims just the same.  Joy and Whoopi just couldn't handle that.  These two cretins are typical liberals who obviously have a serious problem with the truth, and they behaved in a typically dysfunctional liberal manner by storming off when they were losing the argument.  Too bad that they didn't just stay off stage.

As an aside, I haven't a clue as to what the hell Whoopi was wearing, but Halloween is two weeks from now so she's a bit early.

I also remember the thousands of Muslims dancing and rejoicing in the streets over the attack on the Great Satan in Muslim countries on 9/11.  I think that this memory remains with me more vividly than the WTCs coming down.

The scum and perverts in the liberal media almost gleefully broadcast this disgusting and hateful demonstration, over and over again,  immediately after 9/11. Apparently they thought that the attack somehow was America's fault, and that we should all be more sensitive as to why they (the Muslim street) hates us! And, of course, it was Bush's fault.

muslims, regardless of sect (moderate or extreme), still killed those people on 9/11 in the name of Islam and Allah.

Christians are the total group, ie: baptist, catholic, protestant, etc.  Muslim is the complete "nation" of that religion, if you consider it a religion.

BOR did exactly what he should have done.  The skanks walked off because they knew they had been defeated and more people need to do that to these wannabe talk show hosts on the left.

So were the 9/11 hijackers

Submitted by Beukeboom on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 3:06pm.

So were the 9/11 hijackers Episcopalians? Jehovah's Witnesses? Buddhists?

Your comparison is invalid because the Muslims who hijacked the planes and murdered thousands proclaimed they were doing so in the name of Allah thus showing their motivation to be religious in nature. Thus O'Reilly's statement is absolutely correct, accurate and valid.

Not so with your bank robbers. Bank robbers typically do so due to simple greed.

Even Behar's and Goldberg's shouted statements proved to be factually incorrect. For example Goldberg's implication that Timothy McVeigh was Christian or was motivated by Christian principles is proven wrong by McVeigh's own statements.

Another example: Behar's denial of well published polls including the one O'Reilly cited showing a rather impressive majority of Americans oppose that mosque being built. Even NYC folks fall along those lines.

Subsequent published comments by both Behar and Goldberg show quite clearly both of them have their heads stuck in the sand and aren't willing or able to handle the cold, hard facts of the matter. Their opinions are created out of emotion more than an objective examination of the facts. This seems to be the norm with liberals.

Is there anyone on TV more

Submitted by mchris65 on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 2:07pm.

Is there anyone on TV more repulsive than Behar?  I bow down to anyone who got that miserable load off the stage.

Ed Schultz gives her a run

Ed Schultz gives her a run for the money.

In terms of broadcast lib programs, Mike Malloy beats them both hands down in the race for repulsiveness.

So were the planes that

Submitted by Beukeboom on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 2:54pm.

So were the planes that crashed and murdered thousands of people hijacked by Lutherans? By Jehovah's Witnesses? By Buddhists?

No, they were hijacked by Muslims. And it is documented they did it for reasons directly tied in with Islam. Those are the facts, Behar & Goldberg. You may want to be politically correct and bury your heads in the sand so you won't be bothered with the cold, hard truth that O'Reilly proclaimed that Muslims murdered thousands on American soil on 9/11.

There are none so idiotic who try to deny documented facts.

McVeigh didn't believe in God..LINK

That would make him a typical democrat.
