Alleged Ex-Twitter Employee Claims Trump Would’ve Been Booted Sooner If He Were Anyone Else

Twitter claims in its “About” section to be “an open service that’s home to a world of diverse people, perspectives, ideas, and information.”

But in an act of abject political theater, the partisan Jan. 6 Committee broadcasted testimony on Tuesday made by an alleged former Twitter employee recounting that the platform considered booting former President Donald Trump well before the Capitol Riot in the first week of 2021.

Jan. 6 Committee member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) claimed the alleged Twitter employee – who purportedly worked on the company’s content moderation team – said the company targeted Trump months before finally canceling him.

“The employee testified Twitter considered adopting a stricter content moderation policy after President Trump told the Proud Boys to ‘stand back and stand by’ from the lectern at the September 29th presidential debate, but Twitter chose not to act,” Raskin said.

The faceless alleged employee, whose voice the committee muffled, went on to say that Trump “would have been permanently suspended a very long time ago” if he were any other user on Twitter. The machinated voice then accused some Twitter employees of relishing the “power” that came with being Trump’s favorite social media platform.

But an MRC Free Speech America report comparing the censorship totals of Trump and then-presidential candidate Joe Biden shows otherwise. Twitter censored Trump and his 2020 presidential campaign 625 total times between May 31, 2018 and Jan. 4, 2021. The same study found that Twitter never censored Biden or his campaign.
