- Hey, my name's Dan. I'm from Ohio. I'm of the Conservative/Libertarian persuasion. I'm a big fan of small, un-intrusive, accountable, and fiscally responsible government. Low taxes and low costs-of-living are important to me too. Also, I happen to really like capitalism, particularly smart and responsible capitalism that respects consumers and employees. I hate the unions, mostly because they are more interested in keeping Dems in power and getting sweetheart deals for their leaders than actually looking out for the workers they claim to represent. I would very much like to see a Right-to-Work amendment added to the U.S. Constitution. I learned something from the health care reform debate: the Democratic Party doesn't actually care about democracy. Now, I'm sure there are Democrats out there who still do, but the progressives, currently the most powerful and influential members of the party, demonstrated that they don't. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and congressional democrats completely ignored countless letters, emails, petitions, demonstrations, and town hall attendees and voted in lockstep to pass the ironically named Affordable Care Act. Which means that progressives view democracy as outdated. Progressivism is incompatible with democracy. What progressives strive for is statist altruism. Comte's idea of altruism, wherein it is everyone's obligation to put everyone else's needs before their own, enforced by an authoritarian government. That's the "new direction" that Pelosi is taking this country in. Clearly, progressivism is fundamentally unconstitutional. But these leftists show about as much repect for the Constitution as they do the will of the people. Their agenda is the only thing they care about, and the only thing they have any loyalty to. They wrap it up in a blanket of compassion and empathy, and paint the opposition as selfish and uncaring. They make appeals to emotion rather than logical arguments when advancing their positions. And they will do anything to hang onto the power they have: lie, demonize, smear, distort, marginalize, intimidate, and even violently assault anyone who tries to stand in their way. Now, I would like to believe that not everyone who considers themself to be progressive thinks this way, but since those in power apparently do, we're in for pretty rough fight.
