Obama Surrogates 'Speaking Honestly' Plague His Campaign, Andrea Mitchell Tells Maddow

By Jack Coleman | May 22, 2012 | 15:00

Aided by its simpatico allies at MSNBC, the Obama campaign has swung into action to contain yet another unfortunate outbreak of candor.

That an affinity of soulmates exists between Obamists and MSNBCers was never more evident than yesterday in the wake of Newark mayor Cory Booker appearing on "Meet the Press" and opining that the Obama campaign vilifying Mitt Romney for his work at Bain Capital was as "nauseating" as a proposed GOP ad campaign on President Obama's erstwhile ties to radical cleric Jeremiah Wright. VP's Son Beau Biden Touts 'O'Biden' Campaign Event to Ed Schultz

By Jack Coleman | May 21, 2012 | 16:15

Yes, the same gaffe for which liberals mocked Sarah Palin back in 2008.

This time when it was made, on Ed Schultz's radio show, Schultz dutifully let it pass without mockery. (audio clip after page break)

Newsweek's Tina Brown Calls Biden a 'Hero' for Forcing Obama's Gay Marriage Flipflop

By Noel Sheppard | May 17, 2012 | 09:18

Would you say it was heroic to make a blunder on national television that forces the President of the United States to flipflop on an issue six months before Election Day thereby threatening his chances at the polls?

Newsweek editor Tina Brown did exactly that Wednesday when during an interview with the Huffington Post called Vice President Joe Biden "the hero of the hour" for making what could be game-changing comments about same-sex marriage on Meet the Press earlier this month (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Kirsten Powers: Obama's Gay Marriage Flipflop 'Less Evolution and More Intelligent Design'

By Noel Sheppard | May 12, 2012 | 19:06

Liberal columnist Kirsten Powers on Saturday made an observation about Barack Obama's same-sex marriage flipflop that few media members would dare.

During a Fox News Watch discussion about how differently the press handle the President's changes of heart versus Mitt Romney's, Powers observed, "This is less evolution and more intelligent design" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Former USA Today WH Correspondent: 'Obama Played the Press Perfectly on Gay Marriage Announcement'

By Noel Sheppard | May 11, 2012 | 12:40

So you think Barack Obama's flipflop on same-sex marriage Wednesday was all an accident caused by Vice President Joe Biden opening up his mouth when he wasn't supposed to on Sunday's Meet the Press?

Not according to former USA Today White House correspondent Richard Benedetto who wrote Thursday, "If you buy that, I have a bridge I want to sell you":

Hollywood: Driving the Homosexual Agenda for 40 Years

By Paul Wilson | May 10, 2012 | 15:00

Hollywood celebrities exuberantly celebrated President Obama’s recent declaration of support for gay marriage. But Hollywood did not have to come out of the closet and support homosexuality – it has long used its influence to purposely swing public opinion in favor of homosexuality.

For several decades, Hollywood has shown its overt support for homosexuality. Brokeback Mountain was nominated for Best Picture for its unabashedly sympathetic portrayal of a doomed gay relationship. Newt Gingrich’s half-sister officiated at a gay wedding on “Friends” in the 1990s. More recently, late night talk show host Conan O’Brian officiated at an actual gay wedding.

Liberal Propaganda for $300: 'Jeopardy' Sells Out to Democrats

By Matthew Sheffield | May 10, 2012 | 12:57

Does Alex Trebek owe Republicans equal time on his Jeopardy! game show? Answer: Yes, the show has become overrun by Democratic politicians and is only going to get even more politically imbalanced in the days to come.

Last week and this week, the popular game show, in which contestants are given clues and must provide the answer in the form of a question, has been presenting its annual "Teen Tournament" shows with young Americans as contestants -- and First Lady Michelle Obama presenting some of the clues. The show is being broadcast from Washington DC during the Teen Tournament.

'The Daily Show': 'TV Has Never Been Gayer'

By Noel Sheppard | May 09, 2012 | 01:31

As NewsBusters reported, Vice President Joe Biden made a stupendously stupid comment on Sunday's Meet the Press about the NBC sitcom Will and Grace doing "more to educate the American public [about homosexuality] than almost anything anybody’s ever done."

The Daily Show marvelously lampooned this issue as well as the President's "evolving" position on same-sex marriage Tuesday with John Oliver making the accurate media comment, "TV has never been gayer" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Joe Biden: The Tony Bennett of the Obama Administration, Says New York Times's Mark Leibovich

NBC's Curry Channels Biden: 'Will & Grace' and 'Glee' Provide 'Gay Role Models'

By Kyle Drennen | May 08, 2012 | 14:00

Following Vice President Biden praising the NBC sitcom Will & Grace for changing attitudes toward homosexuality on Sunday's Meet the Press, on Monday's Today, co-host Ann Curry made a similar declaration: "...there weren't a lot of gay role models on television....Now, there – this is, we're in the wake of Will and Grace, you know, we've seen Glee on television..." [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

Curry made the observation while talking to openly gay Bravo network executive and talk show host Andy Cohen detailing his coming-out story in a new memoir. Noting gay characters on television, Curry wondered: "Is it any easier for people?" Cohen declared: "I think with more visibility of gay people on TV you feel like you know them. And you feel wow, maybe it's okay. So I hope so, yes."

CBS Boosts Obama White House's Same-Sex 'Marriage' Talking Points

By Matthew Balan | May 08, 2012 | 13:33

Bill Plante forwarded the Obama administration's spin on Tuesday's CBS This Morning concerning Vice President Joe Biden's support for same-sex "marriage." Plante omitted any clips for conservatives or even moderate Democrats during his report, and mentioned social conservatives' opposition only in passing. While Obama officials expressed support for same-sex "marriage" in the piece, no leftist critics of Obama's apparent opposition were included.

The CBS program was the only Big Three morning newscast on Tuesday that reported on the controversy over the Vice President's recent statement on the issue, as well as the ballot initiative in North Carolina that would codify marriage as between one man and one woman in the state.

CNN Lauds 'Brave Catholic' Joe Biden for Supporting Same-Sex Marriage

By Matt Hadro | May 08, 2012 | 12:42

After Vice President Joe Biden voiced his support of same-sex marriage over the weekend, CNN jumped all over the news on Monday and expectantly wondered if President Obama would follow suit. In fact, prime-time host Piers Morgan went so far as to admire the "brave Catholic" Biden for dissenting from Church teaching on the issue.

During every hour save one from 5 a.m. all the way through 10 p.m. on Monday, CNN hyped that Obama administration officials had come out in support of same-sex marriage. They hosted the executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force for a soft interview and aired quotes from the pro-gay Human Rights Campaign and a parent with a lesbian daughter.

Biden: 'Will and Grace' Increased Acceptance of Homosexuality

By Randy Hall | May 07, 2012 | 16:45

During an interview on yesterday's edition of 'Meet the Press,' Vice President Joe Biden stated that he is “absolutely comfortable” with same-sex marriage and praised a long-running situation comedy for “educating” the American public on homosexuality.

However, Biden first had to defend his record of “evolving” views regarding homosexual issues, just as President Barack Obama, who says he supports civil unions. When asked by Meet the Press Host David Gregory regarding the difference in views between himself and the president, Biden sprang to Obama's defense.

NBC: Romney Must 'Backtrack' From the Right, But Obama Will Suffer 'Damage' If He Steps Back From the Left

By Kyle Drennen | May 07, 2012 | 12:30

Talking to Meet the Press host David Gregory on Monday's NBC Today, co-host Ann Curry pushed for Mitt Romney to move away from conservatives: "...does he have to work really hard now to backtrack off of some of his positions in the past, as he was trying to win the primary...?" [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

In a stunning double standard, in her very next question, Curry fretted about President Obama distancing himself from Vice President Biden's support of gay marriage: "There's been some backtracking, it seems, by the White House. Is it possible that the White House could cause itself some damage in backtracking too much off of this?"

David Gregory Asks Biden: Is There a 'Modern Right-Wing Conspiracy' Against Obama?

By Noel Sheppard | May 06, 2012 | 15:49

In 1998, first lady Hillary Clinton famously claimed there was a vast right-wing conspiracy against her husband.

On Sunday, NBC's David Gregory actually asked Vice President Joe Biden on Meet the Press, "Do you think that there is a modern right-wing conspiracy that has aligned against this president?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CBS: Vice President Biden Among 'Most Popular Surrogates' of Obama

By Matthew Balan | May 01, 2012 | 18:48

On Monday, CBSNews.com's Lucy Madison bizarrely included Vice President Biden as one of the Obama campaign's "most popular surrogates" as she highlighted First Lady Michelle Obama's 69 percent approval rating, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll. However, Madison didn't point out that Biden's approval ratings in two polls earlier in 2012 lag far behind Mrs. Obama.

The online political reporter first noted in her article, "In push for battleground states, Michelle Obama heads west," that the First Lady was "swinging by Colorado and Arizona as part of a four-state tour that will include fundraisers and campaign appearances in Las Vegas and Albuquerque." She continued that these "early campaign appearances by Mrs. Obama - whose approval ratings eclipse her husband's...are another indication that President Obama's re-election campaign will make a hard push this November to win Western states with growing Latino populations."

Embarrassing Conduct by Schieffer: Cues Up Biden to Pontificate, But Argues with Gingrich

By Brent Baker | April 02, 2012 | 04:00

An embarrassing performance Sunday for CBS’s Bob Schieffer in the debut of the new hour-long format for Face the Nation. At least he should be embarrassed by the contrast in how he played sycophant to Vice President Joe Biden, treating him as an oracle of wisdom, while not being nearly so coddling with Newt Gingrich who he corrected and challenged. Schieffer cued up Biden to pontificate:

What’s your take on that?
What did you mean by that?
What do you make of all of that?
What’s your take on that?

To Gingrich, however, he argued with the former Speaker’s points.

NBC Airs Obama Campaign Press Release and Pretends It's News

By Kyle Drennen | March 16, 2012 | 12:49

At the top of Thursday's NBC Nightly News, anchor Brian Williams did his part for President Obama's re-election as he announced: "Game on. The President and Vice President hitting it hard tonight on the campaign trail." Introducing the supposed news report, Williams touted how Republicans were "eating up time and money and effort" in the primary race, while "Democrats were in full fall campaign mode."

White House correspondent Kristen Welker sounded more like the White House press secretary as she set up a string of sound bites from Obama and Joe Biden: "President Obama defended his energy policy in suburban Maryland today, and attacked his GOP rivals....Assuming the traditional vice presidential role of campaign attack dog, Biden bared his teeth before a receptive audience of auto workers in politically-important Ohio....he slammed the Republican candidates who opposed the auto bailout." Not a single Republican sound bite was included.

ABC News: Planned Parenthood CEO a White House Top Adviser on Contraception Mandate; Insider Profit Motive Unquestioned

By Jill Stanek | February 13, 2012 | 14:51

Jake Tapper of ABC News wrote a remarkable story last week revealing the players in the Obama administration’s internal debate on the contraception mandate.

According to Tapper, President Obama’s top advisers on the issue included Vice President Joe Biden, former White House Chief-of-Staff Bill Daley, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, former Domestic Policy Council Director Melody Barnes, White House Senior Advisers Valerie Jarrett and Pete Rouse, former White House Communications Director Anita Dunn, two U.S. Senators – and Planned Parenthood Federation for America CEO Cecile Richards:

AP Pins 'Failed' Tag on GOP's Perry (2012) and Romney (2008), But Not Far Worse-Performing Dems

By Tom Blumer | January 22, 2012 | 11:41

After Rick Perry ended his presidential bid on Thursday, the Associated Press's Chris Tomlinson opened his dispatch about the announcement thusly: "Gov. Rick Perry dropped out of the presidential race on Thursday, endorsed his old friend Newt Gingrich and returned home to Texas, where the failed White House candidate has three years left to serve as the chief executive."

Based on much of his prior reportage, Tomlinson appears have a particular animus towards the Texas Governor. But tagging GOP presidential candidates or their candidacies as "failed" is not an aberration at the AP, while the wire service's omission of such tags on wildly unsuccessful Democratic candidates pointedly betrays the presence of obvious bias.

ABC on Romney (Not at Bain Since 1999): He 'Sent Millions to the Mormon Church' From Recent Bain Deals

By Tom Blumer | January 19, 2012 | 00:58

In 1998, we learned that Al and Tipper Gore made $353 in deductible charitable contributions against income of $198,000 the previous year. In the decade from 1998-2007, Joe and Jill Biden averaged $369 per year in such reported contributions. Bill and Hillary Clinton were infamous for taking charitable contributions for used underwear.

The aforementioned facts are generally not known by people who don't closely follow the news, because not much was made of them. But from the point of view of ABC News, particularly the hatchet men disguised as investigative reporters Matthew Mosk and Brian Ross, Mitt and Ann Romney have a much bigger problem than the Gores, Bidens, and Clintons: They, and particularly Mitt through Bain Capital (dubious, as we'll see), have given too much money to a particular charity. Because the reporters apparently want readers and viewers to see this as something underhanded, they describe charity as "sending" instead of "giving":

Ryan Seacrest to Interview Joe Biden on the Radio

By Tim Graham | January 18, 2012 | 07:54

Does Ryan Seacrest have a liberal bias? Maybe he's gunning to be the next Matt Lauer. On his national radio show, Seacrest announced he'll have Vice President Joe Biden on his show on Monday. Seacrest's online announcement lists the other significant political leaders he's  interviewed include the late Ted Kennedy, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Barack and Michelle Obama, and Bill and Hillary Clinton. Politico noted that despite this left-wing list, Seacrest tweeted on Tuesday: “Throughout 2012, I'm welcoming political leaders from all points of the spectrum.”

Seacrest touted how "the Vice President has been touring the nation holding Town Hall meetings in an effort to discuss the administration’s efforts to educate students on how to make college more affordable and student debt more manageable." He added Biden told students in Florida, “A college education is almost a prerequisite or a ticket to the middle class. It’s also a prerequisite if we’re going to lead this world again.”

NYT's Bill Keller Endorses Obama-Clinton Ticket In 2012

By Noel Sheppard | January 09, 2012 | 09:00

In Bill Keller's view, "it does more to guarantee Obama’s re-election than anything else the Democrats can do":

NBC's Ann Curry to Joe Biden: With No WMD, Can U.S. 'Claim Victory' in Iraq?

By Kyle Drennen | December 01, 2011 | 18:06

In an interview with Vice President Joe Biden in Iraq aired on Thursday's NBC Today, co-host Ann Curry depicted the war effort there as a failure: "In a war that was started to protect the world from weapons of mass destruction that were never found, can the United States claim victory?" [Audio available here]

Biden agreed with Curry as he took a jab at the Bush administration: "We're not claiming victory. What we're claiming here is that we've done the job our administration set out to do, to end a war we did not start, to end it in a responsible way, to bring Americans home, to end the bleeding, both financially and physically that this war has caused..." NBC's Ann Curry in Baghdad: 'U.S. Brings Its Divisive Eight-Year War in Iraq to an End'

By Kyle Drennen | November 30, 2011 | 13:58

In a live report from Baghdad on Wednesday's NBC Today, co-host Ann Curry described her arrival to the country with Vice President Biden: "Security is heavy amid an uptick in violence as the U.S. brings its divisive eight-year war in Iraq to an end. The Vice President timed his trip to the last days of America's war in Iraq."

Later in the report, Curry listed the cost of the war: "Eight years after 'shock and awe,' after the toppling and death of Saddam Hussein, after at least 4,473 American lives lost, and 32,226 wounded in action, and a roughly estimated 100,000 Iraqi civilian deaths, America leaves a significantly less violent but not completely stable Iraq."

Scarborough Denounces Mika's Double Standard On Biden 'Rape' Fear-Mongering

By Mark Finkelstein | October 24, 2011 | 12:28

A notable moment on Morning Joe today, as Joe Scarborough called out Mika Brzezinski on her double standard when it comes to criticizing politicians for their over-the-top remarks.

Setting Scarborough off was Brzezinski's defense of Joe Biden's allegation that crime, including rape, would increase if Republicans don't vote for President Obama's latest tax-raising stimulus plan.  Joe claimed Mika would surely condemn a Republican, such as Michelle Bachmann, employing similar fear-mongering tactics.  Video after the jump.

WaPo's Kessler Exposes Biden's 'Absurd Claims About Rising Rape and Murder Rates'; Elsewhere, a Near Non-Story

By Tom Blumer | October 21, 2011 | 18:07

In June, when yours truly last blogged on a Glenn Kessler piece (at NewsBusters; at BizzyBlog), the Washington Post's "Fact Checker" was calling Barack Obama's claims about the accomplishments of the auto-company bailouts "one of the most misleading collections of assertions we have seen in a short presidential speech." He gave Obama's claims three Pinocchios ("Significant factual error and/or obvious contradictions").

Today, Kessler went to four Pinocchios ("whoppers") on Vice President Joe Biden's claims about the prospects for a rise in rapes and murders if the $35 billion section of Obama's "American Jobs Act" devoted to "saving" public-sector jobs doesn't pass. NB's Noel Sheppard did a great job on the "macro" aspect of Biden's bogus claim this morning. Kessler's clean-up has to do with Biden's supposed exemplar, the city of Flint Michigan, where the Vice President claims that murders have doubled and rapes have tripled in the past year (bolds are mine):

What Biden-Loving Media Miss: Violent Crime in America Down Four Years in a Row

By Noel Sheppard | October 21, 2011 | 10:58

While media outlets such as CBS News celebrate Vice President Joe Biden's claim that rape and murder will increase if the President's jobs bill isn't passed, they've all ignored a crucial point.

According to a report released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation last month, despite the recession with its associated state and city budget cuts, violent crime in America has declined four years in a row:

CBS Covers Biden's 'Controversial' Rape Remark; ABC, NBC Punt

By Matthew Balan | October 20, 2011 | 12:39

CBS's Early Show on Thursday stood out as the only Big Three network program that covered what anchor Jeff Glor labeled as Vice President Biden's "controversial comments linking rape and the jobs bill," where he attacked the GOP for opposing the legislation. ABC and NBC's morning shows on Thursday didn't air anything on the story, and none of the networks' evening news shows on Wednesday reported on it.

Despite correspondent Bill Plante's full report on Biden's attack on the GOP, which included a sound bite of the Democrat standing by his comments after a question from Human Events editor Jason Mattera, Face The Nation host Bob Schieffer all but defended the Vice President's remarks: "I think the Vice President is just drawing things in the starkest possible terms...it is a little bit difficult to argue with the logic. If you have fewer police on the streets, you're probably going to have more crime."
