ABC, CBS and NBC Ignore Shocking Jump in Government Dependents

By Geoffrey Dickens | February 10, 2012 | 15:57

According to the Heritage Foundation Barack Obama’s policies, in just two years, have resulted in the number of Americans who rely on a federal program spiking by 23 percent to 67 million. Yet there was no mention of this grim figure on the Big Three network (ABC, CBS and NBC) evening or morning news programs. Since the study was released on Wednesday only Fox News and CNN have mentioned the increase in government dependents was the biggest two year jump since Jimmy Carter was president.  (video after the jump)

Media Mash: Politico, MSNBC Stomp On Conservative Florida 'Crackers'

By NB Staff | February 02, 2012 | 08:41

Politico correspondent Jonathan Martin's Tuesday morning comment about the "cracker counties" of Florida has gone unaddressed and unrebuked by the liberal media, so Sean Hannity and NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell led off last night's "Media Mash" segment with it.

MSNBC's "Chuck Todd agrees with Jonathan Martin," but he works at the same network which is constantly trying to find hidden racist messages in Republican speeches, particularly those of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, the Media Research Center president observed. Bozell on Hannity 'Media Mash': Gingrich Claim Was Not Newsworthy

By NB Staff | January 23, 2012 | 11:40

"There was nothing newsworthy" about Marianne Gingrich's latest claims about the dissolution of her marriage to Newt Gingrich, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News host Sean Hannity on his January 20 program.

"We looked at the September 2010 Esquire story on the marriage" and found "there's nothing, let me underscore, nothing in the story last night that wasn't in that interview," Bozell noted during the "Media Mash" segment [MP3 audio here; videofollows page break]

Video: NB Publisher Brent Bozell Hits the Media's 'Purposeful Character Assassination' of Romney

By NB Staff | January 16, 2012 | 11:08

While the news media has a professional "obligation to get it right," liberal network news anchor last week set out to "purposefully" take Mitt Romney's "fire people" comment out of context, Fox News host Sean Hannity complained on his January 13 program.

But it's not only "purposeful distortion" but "purposeful character assassination" by the liberal media added NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell, who appeared via satellite for the popular recurring "Media Mash" feature. [MP3 audio available here; video embedded below page break]

Washington Post Veteran Disparages Limbaugh, Hannity and Levin as ‘Right-Wing Nutjobs’ with ‘Wacky Conspiracy Theories’

By Brent Baker | January 13, 2012 | 12:15

Another bit of evidence emerged Thursday about how deeply ingrained anti-conservative hatred is inside America’s newspapers, even amongst those who don’t cover politics.

John Kelly, a Washington Post lifestyle columnist inside the “Metro” section best-known for raising money for Children’s National Medical Center and Sunday “Answer Man” columns about DC-area history, used the passing of a local radio legend to disparage syndicated radio hosts as “right-wing nutjobs unspooling their wacky conspiracy theories.” (Hat tip: DCRTV)

Bozell on Fox: Media Tarring Santorum As Extremist On Abortion But Ignored Obama's Extremism

By NB Staff | January 07, 2012 | 12:18

When Democrats have primary presidential contests, we never hear about "extreme-left, in-your-face liberals," playing to the left-wing base of their party, yet when it comes to this year Republican primary contest, the media are quick to slather the extreme-right label on candidates like Rick Santorum, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted on the January 6 edition of Fox News Channel's Hannity.

"ABC believes that if you support the traditional family as Rick Santorum does, that makes you in-your-face. CNN believes that it makes you extreme," Bozell complained, arguing that President Obama has the "most radical pro-abortion record in the history of the presidency of the United States" but was never called on it as a liability when facing the American electorate [video embedded below the page break]

Media Mash: Sniping at Newt Edition

By NB Staff | December 09, 2011 | 08:42

"There were 1,365 evening news stories" during the 2008 Democratic primary cycle and not one mentioned then-Senator Obama's connections to Bill Ayers. By contrast, the media have been doggedly determined to aggressively vet GOP primary candidates like Herman Cain, Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich this cycle, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News's Sean Hannity during a "Media Mash" segment last night.

Of course in Gingrich's case, the media have been particularly sloppy and unfair, Bozell observed, citing NBC's Lisa Myers who insisted Gingrich "shut down the government" when in fact it was a Clinton veto of spending bills that did that. What's more, the media have often raised a long-settled IRS investigation of Gingrich, without mentioning that the investigation cleared him of wrongdoing (video follows page break):

Media Mash: Barney Frank Retirement Edition

By NB Staff | December 02, 2011 | 08:57

Amidst all the media coverage of Rep. Barney Frank's (Mass.) retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives, the media largely praised the retiring Democrat while overlooking the scandals of his tenure in office and his crucial support to government policies that helped fuel the housing bubble, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told viewers of the December 1 edition of Fox News Channel's Hannity.

"Why isn't anyone in the media talking about the obvious? This is a man who single-handedly presided over the collapse" of the U.S. housing industry, Bozell reminded host Sean Hannity in the popular recurring "Media Mash" segment. "Barney Frank in  2003 fought George Bush when he tried to do something about it." [video of the full segment follows page break]

By Noel Sheppard | December 01, 2011 | 09:26

Media Mash: End of Occupy Wall Street Edition

By NB Staff | November 18, 2011 | 08:40

Media silence greeted video of an Occupy Wall Street protester vowing to burn New York City to the ground and toss Molotov cocktails into a Macy's department store, yet there was "non-stop media coverage" of the alleged, but never proven, use of the N-word at one Tea Party rally, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted last night on Fox News Channel's Hannity.

"Look at the violence you're starting to see, the rapes, the assaults... I'm starting to hold the national news media responsible for this as well" as well as New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, the Media Research Center founder added [video follows page break]:

Media Mash: 'Predatory Black Sexuality' Edition

By NB Staff | November 11, 2011 | 10:33

Liberal MSNBC contributors like Toure have "gone beyond the pale" with their recent remarks about Herman Cain, NewsBusters publisher and Media Research Center president Brent Bozell complained on the November 10 edition of "Hannity."

Bozell was reacting to a montage that included the liberal author anticipating a racist backlash by white conservatives who, according to Toure, will now fear Cain's "predatory black sexuality" following the allegations of Sharon Bialek, a "blonde, white woman."

"It's the worst kind of racism, Sean," Bozell added. "What they're trying to say is, 'Hey, look at you Republicans, this is a black boy. He's going after your white women. Look at this, aren't you offended, aren't you offended?!'" [see video below page break]

By Noel Sheppard | November 06, 2011 | 19:33

CNN's Howard Kurtz considers himself to be a media analyst, yet on Sunday's Reliable Sources, he spent 22 minutes discussing Politico's hit piece on Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain without once mentioning how the press handled Bill Clinton's actual  sex scandals.

Bozell Contrasts Media 'Avalanche' Over Anonymous Cain Allegations with Paltry Coverage of Clinton Sexual Harassment

By NB Staff | November 04, 2011 | 10:14

"With Herman Cain, let's remember here, Sean, we have nobody on the record, we have no specific allegation of anything that's happened," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted on last night's Hannity, contrasting the "avalanche" of Cain coverage with the minimal coverage the networks gave to Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, and Juanita Broaddrick's allegations of sexual harassment and, in the latter case, rape. Media Mash: Occupy Oakland Edition

By NB Staff | October 28, 2011 | 06:59

The reason Oakland, California, "one of the most left-wing cities in America" has attempted to disband the Occupy movement there is all the crime and violence fostered by the radicals running the squatter camps. Yet the media put the police on the defensive rather than report on the illegal activities of Occupy Oakland protesters, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell observed during the "Media Mash" segment of the October 27 edition of "Hannity."

Fox News host Sean Hannity agreed and added that the media persistently tried to paint Tea Party demonstrators as extreme while reporting "hardly a peep" about the rampant anti-Semitism and political extremism as the Occupy protests. [watch the full segment's video below the page break]

Oct. 20 'Media Mash': Media Pushing Obama to 'Embrace' 'Occupy Wall Street' Class-warfare Message

By NB Staff | October 21, 2011 | 09:25

While the liberal media are increasingly counseling Obama to co-opt the class-warfare message of Occupy Wall Street (OWS), the fact of the matter is the president's policies are left-wing enough already.

"Obama's administration has been pushing an agenda that has been constantly against corporations, constantly against capitalism, constantly supporting against the rich and supporting redistribution of wealth," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted during the "Media Mash" segment on the October 20 Hannity.

The fact is that the OWS movement is far-left, but the media "know how much the American people turn against that, which is why they're doing everything to shield the American people from what's going on in these protests." [video of "Media Mash" follows the page break]

Ann Coulter: Media 'Will Lie About the Economy' To Get Obama Reelected

By Noel Sheppard | October 15, 2011 | 09:13

Just how far are the media willing to go to get Barack Obama reelected?

As conservative author Ann Coulter told Fox News's Sean Hannity Friday evening, "He will have the entire mainstream media bucking for him and they will lie about the economy. 'Oh, it's a turnaround, don't stop him now'" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Giuliani to 'Occupy Wall Street': 'Streets Are Not for Sleeping'

By Grant Dahl | October 14, 2011 | 17:46

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani told Sean Hannity on his talk show yesterday that, if he was still mayor, he would have told the "Occupy Wall Street" protesters, “You are not allowed to sleep on the streets.”

On his show, Hannity asked Giuliani how he would have dealt with the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement if he was still mayor of New York City - to which Giuliani replied, “Well I had a rule and I enforced it as best I could and pretty effectively. The rule was: You’re not allowed to sleep on the streets. Sorry, not allowed to sleep on the streets. Streets are not for sleeping.”

Media Mash: Occupy Wall Street Edition

By NB Staff | October 14, 2011 | 09:46

The media despised the Tea Party in its infancy, but now that they're trying to boost the "Occupy Wall Street" (OWS) movement, they're describing the latter as a liberal version of the former, without actually reporting on the hard-left Marxist underpinnings of the protests.

NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell and Fox News's Sean Hannity discussed the media's coverage of OWS plus the media's bias against rising GOP candidate Herman Cain during an October 13 "Media Mash" segment on FNC's "Hannity." NYT Claims Sean Hannity Abets 'Inflammatory Rhetoric'; Fiery Leftist PBS Host Avoids Criticism

By Clay Waters | October 12, 2011 | 10:01

New York Times media reporter Brian Stelter marked the 15th anniversary of Fox News on the front of Monday’s Business section with a profile of host Sean Hannity, whose program has been a channel mainstay from the beginning: “Victory Lap for Fox and Hannity.”

Stelter wasn’t hostile, but did use something a guest said on Hannity’s show to accuse Hannity of instigating “inflammatory rhetoric.” But another Stelter story in the same section failed to criticize a left-wing figure, Tavis Smiley, who engages in truly inflammatory rhetoric from a secure public perch at PBS.

Media Mash: Attempts to Smear GOP as 'Bloodthirsty' and Newsweek Editor's Admission Obama 'Wasn't Ready'

By NB Staff | September 30, 2011 | 09:28

In the weekly take-down of the liberal media on Fox News Channel's "Hannity" on Thursday, NewsBusters publisher and Media Research Center President Brent Bozell condemned efforts to "demonize the Tea Party, to marginalize the Tea Party, to suggest that the Tea Party's extremist" simply because GOP debate audiences voiced support for the death penalty. [Audio available here]

Following a clip of CNN's Jack Cafferty asking viewers to tell him whether or not Republican primary voters were "bloodthirsty," Bozell pointed out, "...the vast majority of Americans support the death penalty for convicted murderers and terrorists. That's the reality....Only CNN finds something radically strange about somebody expressing this support."

Media Mash: CNN's Romans Pushes 'Buffett Rule'; There's No Appeasing Chris Matthews

By NB Staff | September 26, 2011 | 08:35

"Greece has got a 45 percent income tax, a 23 percent value-added tax on top of that, so Greece should be in fine shape according to this economic theory," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News's Sean Hannity on Friday, reacting to a clip of CNN's Christine Romans insisting that "serious economists" all agree that taxes must be raised on America's highest income earners.

"This is a press release by the Obama campaign," Bozell complained, adding that "cutting the size of government... capping spending" and "cutting the deficit" are options that are "off the table, not just with Obama, but with CNN."

'Media Mash': Biased Debate Questions Edition

By NB Staff | September 16, 2011 | 08:53

"We counted, in the Republican debate [hosted by MSNBC at the Reagan Library], we counted 26 ideological questions.... Out 26 questions, how many do you think came with a left-wing ideological bent?" NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell asked Fox News host Sean Hannity on his eponymous program last night.

"Twenty-five out of 26" Bozell informed a stumped Hannity, referring to a study released Tuesday by Media Research Center (MRC) deputy research director Geoff Dickens.

"Now, that's perfectly fine if you're going to play devil's advocate... but that's not what these questions are," MRC founder Bozell added, noting that the media don't hit Obama from the right on policy questions in interviews.

Media Mash: MSNBC Defends Hoffa Edition

By NB Staff | September 08, 2011 | 10:15

"If Rush Limbaugh or you on your radio show said we have to take out Obama, you know darn well that tomorrow morning every editorial in America would be accusing you of inciting violence," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell said to Fox News host Sean Hannity last night. Yet when  James Hoffa said the same thing about Tea Party conservatives, liberal journalists at MSNBC actually defended the Teamsters president.

"MSNBC is aiding and abetting on this character assassination campaign against some very good people," the Media Research Center founder argued on the September 7 "Media Mash" segment.

Media Mash: Liberal Media Stooges Edition

By NB Staff | August 26, 2011 | 10:17

Attacks on Republicans like Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, and Sarah Palin that compare them to the Three Stooges are just a sign that the liberal media is getting worried that their champion Barack Obama stands a good shot of losing next year's election. What's more, any Republican who gets attacked as an intellectual lightweight should "wear it as a badge of honor."

That's what NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell argued during the "Media Mash" segment on the August 25 "Hannity," after watching a clip of CNN's Jack Cafferty dismissing not just Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin but also their supporters, whom he said were "allergic to brains."

Bill Maher: Sean Hannity's Too Chicken to Put Me On Fox

By Tim Graham | August 24, 2011 | 10:24

HBO host Bill Maher is touring the country doing "comedy" and granted an interview in Eureka, California to reporter Myles Cochrane, who brought up a recent attack (on July 18) from Sean Hannity. "He hates God. He hates religion. He smokes pot. He wants to be Hugh Hefner. You know, he's not hard to figure out."

After running tape of Maher attacking Sarah Palin as illiterate, Hannity added "he's got his head so far up Barack Obama, without using his vernacular, he wouldn't know an intelligent person if he saw one. It's like he's got this really - it's almost a dark agenda. Hates God, hates conservatives, hates conservative women, says anything and thinks that he's funny." Maher said Hannity's too cowardly to confront him directly on Fox News:

Coulter: Upside of Media Vetting GOP Candidates - We Don't End Up With President Voting Present as Economy Falls in Toilet

By Noel Sheppard | August 19, 2011 | 09:57

As NewsBusters has been reporting, the Obama-loving media are working overtime examining the records of every GOP candidate for president.

"The bright side though is," conservative author Ann Coulter told Fox News's Sean Hannity Wednesday, "we don't end up with a Republican president who is suddenly having an affair with an intern, or a Republican president who votes present for his entire term as the economy falls into the toilet" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell appeared on last night's "Hannity" to go over how, in Sean Hannity's words, the media welcomed Rick Perry to the race "Bachmann-style," that is with a barrage of unfair smears and even comparisons of the Texas governor to Democratic segregationist Bull Connor.
