Leno Mocks Opponents of Gay Marriage, CBS Highlights Quote

By Paul Wilson | February 09, 2012 | 11:32

The idea that marriage is a sacred institution is apparently a joke to Jay Leno and CBS.

Leno declared that those who wish to defend the sanctity of marriage should "ban Kardashian weddings." CBS apparently thought that Leno's crack was too good to pass up, highlighting Leno's quote on at the start of its February 8 "CBS This Morning" show.

Jay Leno Pines for More Socially Liberal Republican Party

By Brad Wilmouth | February 09, 2012 | 08:49

As former GOP presidential candidate Jon Huntsman appeared as a guest on Tuesday's The Tonight Show, host Jay Leno wondered why the Republican Party became so interested in social issues and theorized that a moderate Republican should be able to get elected President, as he suggested that a Republican who is liberal on social issues might appeal to someone like himself who "couldn't care less about social issues."

Wanda Sykes: Rick Perry 'Had to Drop Out' - 'He Was One More Debate Away From Saying the N-Word'

By Noel Sheppard | January 20, 2012 | 09:26

Comedienne Wanda Sykes speculated Thursday that Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry had to drop out of the race because "he was one more debate away from saying the N-word."

Appearing on NBC’s Tonight Show to bash all the GOP candidates, she also told the host that Newt Gingrich might have wanted an open marriage with his ex-wife because she said he had a "tiny penis" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

By Noel Sheppard | January 10, 2012 | 20:20

On Monday, Tonight Show host Jay Leno introduced America to Jack Taylor, a remarkable seven-year-old with an uncannily keen insight into politics.

After telling Leno that he doesn’t like President Obama because “all he does is spend, spend, spend,” Taylor took to rating the Republican presidential candidates (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

By Noel Sheppard | December 17, 2011 | 09:48

Ron Paul Gets Standing Ovation on NBC's Tonight Show

By Noel Sheppard | December 17, 2011 | 09:19

As the polls reflect, the appeal of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is sweeping the nation.

No better was that exemplified than on NBC's Tonight Show Friday when the Texas Congressman received a standing ovation as he walked onto the stage to meet host Jay Leno (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Leno: Perry Wore Same Jacket in Anti-Gay Ad as Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain

By Noel Sheppard | December 10, 2011 | 13:54

Jay Leno on Friday took what many might think was a double entendre poke at Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry.

After playing the Texas governor's new ad dealing with gays serving openly in the military, the Tonight Show host quipped, "It's the same jacket Heath Ledger wore in 'Brokeback Mountain,' but we won't go there" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

By Noel Sheppard | November 22, 2011 | 08:55

Last month as NewsBusters reported, Jay Leno did a disgustingly sycophantic interview with President Obama.

On Monday's program, comedian Dennis Miller told the Tonight Show host, "You guys have quite a bromance there, don't you? I've come up with one of those celebrity nicknames for you two -- J-Lobama" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

On Leno, Chris Matthews Tears Down GOP 2012 Candidates as Incompetent and 'Strange'

By Kyle Drennen | November 11, 2011 | 15:53

Appearing on Thursday's Tonight Show, MSNBC's Chris Matthews went after the Republican presidential candidates one by one, asserting Herman Cain's "bad, bad behavior" with women, Rick Perry being "not even competent to be in this – on that stage," and a "hypnotized" Michele Bachmann being a "strange person."

Even host Jay Leno got in on the GOP bashing, claiming the Republican Party had become so conservative that "even Reagan could not get elected" in a primary race. Matthews touted Reagan as a liberal: "He was pro-choice in California....He raised taxes. He did a lot of things that these people won't do anymore."

Network Morning Shows Tout 'Comedian in Chief' Obama Mocking GOP on Leno

By Kyle Drennen | October 26, 2011 | 09:41

All three network morning shows on Wednesday cheered President Obama's Tuesday appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. At the top of ABC's Good Morning America, co-host Robin Roberts declared: "Comedian in chief. The President hits late-night TV talking about all the people taking swings at him right now. And why what he's really worried about is what the First Lady's giving out for Halloween."

Later, fellow co-host George Stephanopoulos noted how Obama was "trying to warm up his image with a few laughs on Jay Leno's couch." White House correspondent Jake Tapper described how the President "made certain to have a few laughs" at the expense of the Republican presidential candidates. A clip followed of Leno asking if the commander in chief had been watching the GOP debates, with Obama replying: "I'm going to wait until everybody's voted off the island."

Ultra-Liberal Daily Beast Rips Leno's Obama Interview: 'Might Just as Well Been Scripted by David Axelrod'

By Noel Sheppard | October 26, 2011 | 09:27

A tremendously unlikely source came out Wednesday with a scathing review of Jay Leno's interview with President Obama on NBC's Tonight Show.

Lloyd Grove, editor at large for the perilously liberal Daily Beast, wrote, "Obama couldn’t have found a more willing accomplice. Leno—who wears his American flag pin on the right lapel, in contrast to the president’s flag-on-left—might just as well been scripted by David Axelrod" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Maher Tells Leno That Bush, Palin, Perry and Bachmann Are Idiots - But He Doesn't Know Iowa Has Caucuses

By Noel Sheppard | September 11, 2011 | 23:55

Within seconds of his introduction on Friday's "Tonight Show," Bill Maher attacked leading Republicans.

In a truly delicious example of instant karma, moments after calling Dan Quayle, George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, Rick Perry, and Michele Bachmann idiots, the pompous, more arrogant than most Maher spoke of how important the "Iowa primary" is (video follows with commentary):

Media Sites Crow Over Don Rickles 'Insulting' Bristol Palin

By P.J. Gladnick | July 17, 2011 | 09:39

(Check the update at the bottom of this story. Bristol may have accidentally tipped us off as to the intentions of her mother.)

You know what a true insult from comedian Don Rickles would be? It would be if you appeared on a stage with Rickles and did NOT receive an "insult" from the "Merchant of Venom."

However, many media websites seem to be unaware of Rickles' stock in trade. They are crowing over the fact that they believe Don Rickles delivered serious insults to Bristol and Sarah Palin during a visit of the former to the Tonight Show last Thursday where the comedian was one of the guests. As you can see in this video (and below the fold), Rickles "insults" were relatively mild compared to the zingers he directed towards President Ronald Reagan on stage during his second inauguration in 1985. And the reaction from The Gipper was sheer delight at the "insults."

Yet here we have such sites as Raw Story and andPOP taking the Rickles insults as if they were some sort of serious political commentary.  Raw Story leads off with a headline that could also describe a Rickles encounter with anybody on a stage: "Don Rickles makes fun of Bristol Palin to her face."

Leno Joke about Weiner Includes Pro-life Terminology: 'Unborn Son'

By Jill Stanek | June 20, 2011 | 11:17

Tonight Show host Jay Leno demonstrated June 17 that getting a laugh is much more important than political correctness to a comedian.

Although Leno is married to pro-abortion feminist Mavis, he knew “male fetus” just wouldn’t get the response “unborn son” would.

Watch the clip beginning at 12:28 for Leno’s quip, “Trending tomorrow, Weiner’s unborn son tweets his sonogram picture to over 500 girls”…

Bozell Column: Flunking the Citizenship Test

By Brent Bozell | March 22, 2011 | 21:29

Anyone who’s ever seen Jay Leno do one of his “Jaywalking” segments on NBC, locating average Americans and asking them factual questions on street corners, knows there are far too many Americans who know next to nothing about just about everything. They can’t name our first president, or don’t even know what the phrase “founding fathers” means. Ask them to name our current vice president and watch the brain waves flatline.

Newsweek magazine recently announced its disgust after it offered the government’s official citizenship test (the one we require immigrants to pass before being naturalized) to 1,000 Americans. Thirty-eight percent of the sample failed. Newsweek worried in its headline: “The country's future is imperiled by our ignorance.”

The magazine was careful enough to report that civic ignorance isn’t new. One study found the yearly shifts in civic knowledge since World War II have averaged out to "slightly under 1 percent." But it worried that today’s interconnected world is “becoming more and more inhospitable to incurious know-nothings – like us.”

Chris Matthews Slams Huckabee for Getting it Wrong on Obama and Kenya - and Gets it Wrong on Obama and Kenya

By Jack Coleman | March 16, 2011 | 17:42

Here's an example of a former newspaper man correcting a politician's claim -- and his correction requiring a correction.

Appearing on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on Monday, MSNBC's Chris Matthews offered kneejerk condemnation of Mike Huckabee saying President Obama grew up in Kenya as "racist," an assertion Huckabee had acknowledged as inaccurate.

Matthews piled on, making his own demonstrably false claim in the process (video after page break) --

Chris Matthews Rips GOP 2012 Candidates on Leno, Then Claims: 'I Want to be Somewhat Nonpartisan'

By Kyle Drennen | March 16, 2011 | 11:25

On Monday's Tonight Show with Jay Leno on NBC, MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews slammed the potential crop of 2012 Republican presidential contenders as "the weakest list of candidates I have ever seen."

Matthews bashed Mitt Romney as someone who "gives a bad name to empty suits." He claimed Mike Huckabee was being "racist" by mistakenly saying President Obama spent part of his childhood in Kenya instead of Indonesia. When Leno asked about Minnesota Congressman Michele Bachmann, Matthews ranted about a gaffe she made about Lexington and Concord being in New Hampshire: "You ought to at least know high school history....you got to know something to run for president, don't you?"

Continuing his attack on Bachmann, Matthews added: "Wouldn't you like your plumber to know what a pipe was?" He then admitted: "That's too mean." And announced: "I want to be somewhat nonpartisan."

Wanda Sykes Asks Leno 'Has Obama Had One Relaxing Day Since He's Been In Office?'

By Noel Sheppard | March 16, 2011 | 01:22

As strife continued in Libya, and Japan dug out from an epic earthquake and tsunamis leaving one of our largest trading partners in the midst of a nuclear crisis, Barack Obama went golfing this past Saturday.

Obviously clueless about the President's numerous golf outings and vacations since Inauguration Day, comedienne Wanda Sykes actually asked Jay Leno on Tuesday's "Tonight Show," "Has Obama had one relaxing day since he's been in office?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Rachel Maddow Plays Gay Card: Defends Her Own Lies By Calling Critics Homophobes

The folks at MSNBC should be deeply embarrassed and ashamed of their prime time commentator Rachel Maddow.

Having been exposed by Politifact for lying last week about Wisconsin having a budget surplus, Maddow on Thursday hypocritically defended herself by playing nine cherry-picked words from the broadcast in question while disgracefully calling her critics homophobes (video follows with transcript and commentary):

After some additional investigation, it turns out the juiciest whopper of all came a few minutes earlier when she totally misrepresented Republican and Democrat political contributions in the previous elections (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Last Monday, New York Times columnist Paul Krugman ironically asked his readers why voters are so ill-informed.

Eight days later, MSNBC's resident Rhodes scholar Rachel Maddow, while chatting with the "Tonight Show's" Jay Leno about what's going on in Wisconsin, demonstrated perfectly why so many in our country have little factual knowledge of current events (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Jay Leno Makes Oral Sex Joke About Christine O'Donnell

By Noel Sheppard | October 02, 2010 | 17:16

Jay Leno on Friday made an oral sex joke about Delaware Republican senatorial candidate Christine O'Donnell.

His "Tonight Show" guest was "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, who last week himself made a sexual comment about O'Donnell on HBO's "Real Time" as NewsBusters previously reported.

Leno brought this up with MacFarlane who joked, "I think the second she opened her mouth, it would probably ruin everything."

The "Tonight Show" host responded, "Or make it really good" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Maher: 'I'm Against a Church Anywhere'

By Nathan Burchfiel | September 14, 2010 | 10:19

Comedian Bill Maher took his anti-religion, anti-conservative views off HBO and into the mainstream Sept. 13 during an appearance on NBC's "Tonight Show." Maher told host Jay Leno he's against the Ground Zero Mosque, because he's "against a mosque anywhere. I'm against a church anywhere, or a Hindu temple or a synagogue."

Maher declared that houses of worship are "places that people go to retell nonsense stories from a time before men understood what a germ or an atom was, or where the sun went at night. They try to telepathically communicate with their imaginary friend. These are places that fleece people, and scare people and they perpetuate mass delusion. We shouldn't build any of them."

But Maher conceded that because the First Amendment protects freedom of religion, "they should be able to build them anywhere."

He also attacked conservatives and Sarah Palin, calling her an "evil dingbat."

Bozell: Jay Leno Knows More About What's News than the 'News' Networks

By NB Staff | September 10, 2010 | 12:37

The ABC, CBS and NBC evening new shows have yet to notice Fidel Castro's astonishing admission that Cuban Communism does not work. But non-journalist Jay Leno brought the news to his Tonight Show audience on Thursday, joshing:  "Most Cubans heard this announcement on a 1954 RCA Deluxe console TV -- beautiful black-and-white, all mahogany...." (Video at right)

The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg recounted Castro's confession in a September 8 post:
During the generally lighthearted conversation (we had just spent three hours talking about Iran and the Middle East), I asked him if he believed the Cuban model was still something worth exporting.
