Dean: Only Reason To Fight In Afghanistan--Feminism!

By Mark Finkelstein | April 20, 2011 | 10:19

Call him a NOW-hawk . . .

Of all the reasons to send our people to fight and die in Afghanistan, spending $2 billion per week in the process, Howard Dean has managed to come up with perhaps the worst: feminism.

On today's Morning Joe, Dean explained that "the whole reason" he used to support President Obama's waging of the Afghanistan war was that leaving the country would plunge its women back into "the Stone Age."  But now that Afghan President Karzai has showed insufficient support for women's right in Dean's eyes, it's time to get out.

Eugene Robinson: Biden Had A Better Idea On Afghanistan Than Obama

By Noel Sheppard | April 07, 2010 | 13:27

One of Barack Obama's biggest media cheerleaders on Tuesday said that Vice President Joe Biden's idea concerning managing the war in Afghanistan was better than the President's.

"I thought that the minimalist strategy that, that Joe Biden was, was apparently propounding, the anti-terror strategy as opposed to what we're effectively doing which is basically nation-building, I thought that Biden had a better idea," Washington Post columnist and former assistant managing editor Eugene Robinson said on yesterday's "Morning Joe."

"The President had different, you know, went a different way, and this is something he's going to have to work through Karzai if it's possible to work this through," he continued.

"I'm not sure this is going to end well" (video follows with transcript and commentary, file photo):

Meredith Vieira Sees U.S. Defeat in Afghanistan

By Geoffrey Dickens | September 24, 2007 | 12:39

It's not enough that the media is waving the white flag of defeat in Iraq but now they're declaring yet another war lost. NBC's "Today" co-host Meredith Vieira seemed so convinced that the U.S. had lost the war in Afghanistan she was perplexed when Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai didn't share her assessment of failure. On the Monday "Today" show, in a taped interview, a bewildered Vieira responded to Karzai's statement of victory with: "What have you won?"

The following exchange occurred in the 7am half-hour of the September 24, NBC "Today" show:
