Eleanor Clift Says Something So Dumb Mort Zuckerman Does Double Facepalm In Disbelief

By Noel Sheppard | January 28, 2012 | 16:57

How many times have you watched a political talk show and just couldn't imagine the nonsense coming out of some liberal pundit's mouth?

On PBS's McLaughlin Group Friday, Newsweek's Eleanor Clift said something so absolutely absurd about tax cuts that U.S. News and World Report's Mort Zuckerman did a double facepalm on camera in disbelief (video follows with transcript and commentary):

By Noel Sheppard | January 14, 2012 | 15:41

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has up to this point opted not to make his tax returns public.

Not surprisingly, Newsweek's Eleanor Clift smells a rat and expressed her conspiratorial opinion during the predictions segment of PBS's McLaughlin Group Friday (video follows with transcript):

McLaughlin Group Pays Tribute to Tony Blankley

By Noel Sheppard | January 14, 2012 | 15:21

Like a lot of Americans who live outside the D.C. metro area, I was first introduced to Tony Blankley by PBS's McLaughlin Group.

It was therefore quite fitting that host John McLaughlin as well as panelists Michelle Bernard, Pat Buchanan, Eleanor Clift, and Clarence Page on Friday paid tribute to Blankley who sadly passed away last Saturday (video follows with commentary):

George Will and Arianna Huffington Switch Roles on ABC's This Week

By Noel Sheppard | December 04, 2011 | 18:53

Prior to watching Rich Lowry say, "Eleanor [Clift] hit it on the head" on Sunday's McLaughlin Group, conservatives saw likely an even odder event on ABC's This Week.

George Will and Arianna Huffington curiously exchanged roles with him saying the recent unemployment numbers were good for President Obama and her claiming they're weren't (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Hell Freezes Over: Rich Lowry Says 'Eleanor [Clift] Has Hit It On The Head'

By Noel Sheppard | December 04, 2011 | 17:45

For conservatives, hell may have frozen over on Sunday.

Rich Lowry, the editor of the National Review, said on PBS's McLaughlin Group referring to the perilously liberal Newsweek columnist named Clift, "Eleanor has hit it on the head" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Eleanor Clift: What Irritates Media Most About Newt Gingrich Is 'The Fact That He Is Right'

By Noel Sheppard | November 27, 2011 | 15:53

Newsweek's Eleanor Clift made a rather revealing statement about the media's treatment of Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich Sunday.

Shortly after CNN's Howard Kurtz asked his Reliable Sources panel, "Why do some of these commentators have such a deep-seated animus toward Newt," Clift surprising said, "I think he's right about a lot of [things]. And I think that's even more irritating, the fact that he is right" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Eleanor Clift: Herman Cain Got 'Free Ride' From Media Until Politico Hit Piece

By Noel Sheppard | November 06, 2011 | 16:33

There have been a lot of ridiculous comments made in the past week since Politico published its hit piece on Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, but one of the most absurd yet came from Newsweek's Eleanor Clift this weekend.

Appearing on PBS's McLaughlin Group, Clift actually said, "This is the press doing what the press should be doing, and they should have done due diligence on this candidate earlier on...He got a free ride for a good long while." (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Eleanor Clift: President Sent ObamaCare to Supreme Court Because He's Afraid He Won't Get Reelected

By Noel Sheppard | October 02, 2011 | 15:45

Newsweek's Eleanor Clift made a rather shocking prediction on this weekend's "McLaughlin Group."

"Obama’s justice department took the, asked for healthcare ruling from the Supreme Court because they’re nervous that they’re not going to be in office a year and a half from now" (video follows with commentary):

Clift's 9/11 Regret: It Sparked Our 'Obsessive Focus' on Terrorism

By Geoffrey Dickens | September 12, 2011 | 13:00

Of all the major regrets she could have about 9/11, Newsweek's Eleanor Clift whined that the attacks on that tragic day sparked this nation's "Obsessive focus on terrorism." As part of a panel retrospective on 9/11, aired on the syndicated McLaughlin Group over the weekend, Clift complained that George W. Bush's war on terrorism was "very costly to this country" as it distracted the nation from its "internal problems."

Clift went on to cite, in her view, the great shame that was Barack Obama begging Congress "for money to modernize schools and build science labs" and added: "that's just one small example of the cost we've paid with the obsessive focus on terrorism this last decade."

Eleanor Clift: Fannie and Freddie Didn't Cause Mortgage Collapse - It Was Bush and Wall Street

By Noel Sheppard | July 10, 2011 | 20:59

It is truly fascinating how liberal media members will do anything to protect the reputation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

On this weekend's "McLaughlin Group," Newsweek's Eleanor Clift revised history to largely absolve the two government-sponsored enterprises for last decade's mortgage collapse while predictably blaming it on Wall Street and of course George W. Bush (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Pat Buchanan and John McLaughlin Finally Silence Eleanor Clift: 'Hold it' - 'Quiet'

By Noel Sheppard | July 03, 2011 | 18:18

There was a truly delicious moment on this weekend's "McLaughlin Group" that's guaranteed to please conservatives from coast to coast.

During a heated discussion about President Obama's call to end tax breaks for corporate jet purchases, Pat Buchanan and John McLaughlin literally silenced Newsweek's Eleanor Clift much to her dismay (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Newsweek's Clift Says Press Don't Care About Romney's Mormonism Hours Before Mag Reveals Cover Story On It

By Noel Sheppard | June 05, 2011 | 15:58

Newsweek's Eleanor Clift said on PBS's "McLaughlin Group" Friday that the press really aren't interested in Mitt Romney being a Mormon.

This amazingly transpired roughly 24 hours before her magazine revealed a June 13-20 cover story about Romney entitled "The Mormon Moment: How the Outsider Faith Creates Winners" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Clift Slapped Down By Tim Carney: Obama Will Talk to Eva Longoria but Not Arizona Gov. Brewer

By Geoffrey Dickens | May 16, 2011 | 15:15

On this weekend's McLaughlin Group Newsweek's Eleanor Clift used the occasion of Barack Obama's immigration speech to opine that Hispanics "know which side, which party is on their side" and implied it's not the GOP as she declared Republican Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona has "negative attitudes" towards them. During a discussion about Obama's immigration speech last week Clift even bragged: "This president has done far more in terms of security crackdown than George W. Bush did."

This was all too much for the Washington Examiner's Tim Carney to bear as he wittily retorted that instead of having an open dialogue with the governor of a major border state like Brewer, the President chose to talk about the vital issue with Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, as seen in the following May 15 exchange:

By Noel Sheppard | April 24, 2011 | 18:06

"A lot more Americans are going to learn to speak Spanish, and I think that's a fine thing."

So said Newsweek's Eleanor Clift Friday in the middle of a "McLaughlin Group" program devoted in its entirety to looking at how America is responding to a growing Hispanic population as well as an ongoing economic expansion in Latin America (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Lowry Calls Obama Classless, Clift Asks 'What Would You Expect From Kenyan Socialist With No Birth Certificate?'

By Noel Sheppard | April 17, 2011 | 19:02

For the second week in a row, Newsweek's Eleanor Clift and National Review's Rich Lowry had quite a battle on PBS's "McLaughlin Group."

This time the fireworks started when Lowry called President Obama classless for the way he treated Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) at Wednesday's speech on deficit reduction which led Clift to ask, "What else would you expect from a socialist born in Kenya who’s hiding his birth certificate?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Rich Lowry Smacks Down Eleanor Clift: 'You're Talking Out of Both Sides of Your Mouth'

By Noel Sheppard | April 10, 2011 | 19:33

There was a moment on this weekend's "McLaughlin Group" that is guaranteed to make conservatives all around the country smile from ear to ear.

After Newsweek's Eleanor Clift predictably attacked Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) and his just-released budget proposal, National Review's Rich Lowry caught her in a serious contradiction and said, "With all due respect, Eleanor, you're talking out of both sides of your mouth" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Monica Crowley Refutes Eleanor Clift's Claim Tea Party Candidate Can't Win National Election

By Noel Sheppard | March 27, 2011 | 23:56

After getting laughed at by Monica Crowley for making a foolish comment about the disparate ways Barack Obama and Ronald Reagan handled Libya during their respective presidencies, Newsweek's Eleanor Clift doubled down on this weekend's "McLaughlin Group" by saying a Tea Party candidate can't win a national election.

Crowley was once again up to the challenge and correctly pointed out, "If the government keeps spending like this, that Tea Party movement is only going to accelerate" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

By Noel Sheppard | March 06, 2011 | 17:17

Does a sycophantic devotion to the President make liberal media members lose all connection to reality?

Before you answer, consider that on Friday, Newsweek's Eleanor Clift and liberal radio host Bill Press actually said on PBS's "McLaughlin Group" the U.S. auto industry is stronger than it ever was (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Rewriting Ronald Reagan: Reagan and National Defense

By Tim Graham | February 03, 2011 | 17:43

Ronald Reagan may have won the Cold War by forcing the Soviet Union to realize that it could not compete financially or technologically with a revitalized United States. But to the American media, the Reagan defense buildup seemed like a plot designed to deny government aid to poor and hungry people. It was seemingly the only spending that caused the budget deficit, even bankrupted the country. Cranking up spending on supposedly unworkable new ideas like a national missile defense system was “absolute nonsense,” as ABC’s Ted Koppel told Phil Donahue in 1987.

A 1985 Los Angeles Times survey of reporters found out how McGovernite liberalism dominated the press: 84 percent of reporters and editors supported a so-called “nuclear freeze” to ban all future nuclear missile deployment; 80 percent were opposed to increased defense spending; and 76 percent objected to aid to the Contra rebels fighting for democracy in Nicaragua. One side of this debate had an eye on permanent “peaceful coexistence.” The other side had an eye on victory.

By Noel Sheppard | January 16, 2011 | 22:15

For fans of PBS's "McLaughlin Group" that have for years put up with Eleanor Clift screeching and rudely interrupting other guests, a marvelous moment happened Friday that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Eleanor Clift: New Tea Partiers in House 'Going to Get Their Hearts Broken' in Washington

By Noel Sheppard | December 19, 2010 | 18:30

Newsweek's Eleanor Clift on Friday said the newly-elected Tea Party members in the House are going to get their hearts broken when they get to the nation's capital.

In her view, expressed on PBS's "The McLaughlin Group," this will happen "as they come up against all the forces in Washington, the same forces that Barack Obama came up against" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Eleanor Clift: Obama a Nice Family Man, Republicans Would Rather Walk on Broken Glass Than Give Up 'Tax Cuts for the Rich'

By Ken Shepherd | December 10, 2010 | 15:51

President Obama is a nice, moral family man. Too bad he has to deal with wild-eyed ideologues in the congressional GOP.

That's the sentiment of Eleanor Clift's December 10 Newsweek.com piece, "Filling In the Blanks," which examines where the president stands in the public's perception at the midway through his term in office.

As is standard operating procedure for Clift, Republicans and conservatives are cast in a negative light while Obama is humanized and dealt with very sympathetically. Here's how Clift opened her piece (emphases mine):

Eleanor Clift: Obama Lacks 'Feel' for Politics

By P.J. Gladnick | November 22, 2010 | 11:45

Eleanor Clint doesn't exactly say that President Barack Obama is completely clueless about politics but she comes pretty close to it in her latest Newsweek column. The lack of a basic ability to control the political agenda in Washington is a prospect that makes a committed liberal like Clift somewhat less than happy:

Obama’s storied political career took him from the relative obscurity of the Illinois State Legislature to the presidency in such a short time that he didn’t get much of a feel for the nitty-gritty politicking that consumes so much of today’s partisan bickering. He didn’t have the benefit of getting beaten badly at the state level, like Clinton was in Arkansas, and having to learn how to reinvent himself.

Eleanor Clift Equates Airport Scanners to CAT Scans: 'What Are We Concealing Here?'

By Noel Sheppard | November 21, 2010 | 15:31

Newsweek's Eleanor Clift doesn't understand why Americans are uncomfortable with the new body scanners being used at some of the nation's airports.

Chatting about the subject on PBS's "McLaughlin Group," Clift sarcastically said, "Maybe we ought to worry about C-T x-rays and so forth - you never can tell when somebody might put that out" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Media Help Flailing Liberals Spread Message on Abortion, Gay Rights

By Erin R. Brown | October 29, 2010 | 12:51

It’s no secret that the nation is preparing for a GOP tidal wave with significant conservative victories in the Senate and House next Tuesday. The election has essentially focused on domestic economic policy. Conservative candidates have been gaining ground with a popular job growth/lower taxes/revive the economy mantra.

But desperate liberal Democrats have suddenly shifted the focus from the economy to divisive social issues like abortion and gay rights, and the mainstream media have been more than willing to give them a platform. Media personalities like Matt Lauer, Rachel Maddow and Eleanor Clift are loudly voicing concerns over the future of gay marriage and the legal status of abortion.

Eleanor Clift Holds Out Hope of Democrats Retaining the House

By Ken Shepherd | October 25, 2010 | 12:45

For Eleanor Clift, the dream will never die. At least not until after all the polls close on November 2.

The uber-liberal Newsweek contributor presses Democrats to "Keep Dreaming" in an October 25 post at the magazine's website.

Clift insists that it is possible that Democrats can get their base motivated enough to keep Republicans from taking the House:

Newsweek's Clift Plays Democratic Strategist with 'What Obama Must Do After the Midterms'

By Ken Shepherd | October 08, 2010 | 17:16

Apparently the political death panel at Newsweek is resigned to the fact that the Democratic Congress is DOA come November 2.

Thus braced for the impact of a possible Republican congressional takeover, uber-liberal Newsweek writer Eleanor Clift donned her political strategist cap to openly advise Obama that how, "Just as Clinton did in ’94," he'll need to "reaffirm his relevance and return to his core principles."

But haven't Obama's core liberal principles been the problem that's brought about this impending midterm doom?
