CNN's Piers Morgan provided his latest overly simplistic, pro-gun control solution to mass shootings in a series of posts on Twitter on Monday. The British TV host's first policy prescription: "Given the young ages of most mass/random shooters in America, I'd make it illegal for anyone under 25 to buy a gun of any kind."
Morgan continued by comparing buying a gun to renting a car: "It's almost impossible to rent a car under the age of 25 in America - why not regulate guns the same way? Just common sense." When someone challenged him on this, the disgraced former Daily Mirror editor attacked the constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms:
And there, right there, is the absurdity of the 2nd Amendment laid bare > RT @redsteeze .@piersmorgan Car rental is not a right, Musket.
Eighteen minutes before he made his draconian suggestion to target the under-25 demographic, Morgan began his latest anti-gun bender online by observing that "the 19yr-old mall shooter in Maryland was not legally allowed to buy an alcoholic drink until 21. But was able to legally buy a shotgun."
Someone should let Mr. Morgan know that the suspect could have also enlisted in the military when he was 18 (could be drafted in the event of a major war), and be trained to use much more destructive weapons than a shotgun or the much-hyped "assault weapon," and still be forbidden to buy alcoholic beverages for another three years.
Two days earlier, The Wrap.com reported that Morgan wasted little time after the Saturday shooting at The Mall in Columbia, Maryland to call for stricter gun control. He replied to singer Katy Perry's Tweets wondering if "anyone else really sad about the constant stream of shootings and how normal it’s becoming" by stating that he was "not sad, furious." The TV host went on to encourage Perry to become an pro-gun control activist: "[N]eed voices like you to effect change."
The CNN on-air personality also used the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and the 9/11 attacks to forward his leftist agenda: "America's response to 9/11 was to ban all potential weapons on planes. Why is the only answer to gun violence MORE guns?"
