As NewsBusters observed last month, the media, possibly with marching papers from the White House, have regularly been blaming all that ails the nation on "The Republican Congress" despite the fact Democrats control the Senate.
On ABC's This Week Sunday, George Will marvelously noted, "While [Barack Obama] was lecturing in Constitutional law, he missed that part of the Article I that says there’s a Senate also" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR, HOST: So, one of those end points is obviously what the super committee is going to come up. You heard me ask Speaker Boehner about that. Weigh in, if you like, about how and do you believe they’re going to come up with an agreement by the deadline just before Thanksgiving, George.
GEORGE WILL: The problem is by next Sunday they have to have a plan if they’re going to get it scored by the Congressional Budget Office before the 23rd. The President needs this committee to fail because he’s already decided to run against what he calls “The Republican Congress.” While he was lecturing in Constitutional law, he missed that part of the Article I that says there’s a Senate also. And the Democrats control that, and as Boehner said, they’re holding up a lot of legislation.
Please notice the guilty smile on fellow panelist Arianna Huffington's face as Will made this remark.
She knows darned well that the President and his Party have been continually misrepresenting this issue and that folks like her and her colleagues in the so-called news industry have been willing accomplices to spreading the misinformation.
With polls showing the country's view of Congress at dismally low levels, Democrats and the White House believe they have to convince the public the GOP is responsible, and are therefore employing this tremendously disgraceful strategy.
But if the press didn't assist them, they wouldn't think of lying to the public this way for their dishonesty would be systematically exposed.
It must be nice for the President and his Party to know that's not going to happen.
