If you find liberal gnashing of teeth in the aftermath of a "shellacking" to be amusing, then you should try to decide which line of argument/rage/denial at the Daily Kos is most amusing.
There is "Conn Man" armed with the usual tendency to find mental illness and stupidity in the foe:
The American people have spoken, and their message is that obstructionist politics, refusal to play by the rules, sociopathic personalities, and semi-literacy are the qualities that they are looking for in elected officials. They have sent the message that anti-intellectualism, emotional rather than rational thinking, the politics of fear and anger, and a complete lack of compassion for anyone other than numero uno are their ideal personality traits for the people they want to be in charge...
There is "Jhawklefty" wondering what's the matter with Kansas, and the rest of America:
...[T]he Republican Party is an existential threat to our nation, our way of life, and our freedoms as Americans. I truly believe that their party - the politicians, the professional hack operatives, and the great mouth-breathing base - are an incarnation of evil in our midst. And you know what? In spite of their...overt hatred of the poor, working-class, and middle-class; in spite of their racism, their sexism, their general bigotry...in spite of their generally poor reputation among a strong majority of Americans...they are winning. You know why? Because they stuck to their (horribly dangerous and verging on insane) guns and ideas, and didn't compromise an inch...
Mastering in denial is the ever-popular "Bill in Portland Maine," denying that liberalism looks unpopular:
Democrats are still more popular than Republicans. Democratic policies are still more popular than Republican policies when we explain them...it's just that the average American doesn’t have the time or inclination to be explained to. So on we search for ways to slap our brand on a bumper sticker.
The theorist "Lbines" classically blames Fox News for creating a mob of morons:
Welcome to the conflict every corporate sponsored Republican has secretly feared for decades; the showdown between the Right-wing Crooks and the far Right Crazies. The American A--hole led by the Crazies, have finally gained legitimate political representation in Congress. These wayward souls now have a seat at the table, albeit the kid’s Thanksgiving table where they will be barred from interrupting adults having serious discussions...
While fueled by a low wattage intellect but highly energized by anger, homophobia, racism, and religious intolerance, this Fox Media led mob of morons will be primed for confrontation. The American A--hole has been whipped up into a frenzy and may not be able to be talked down.
But perhaps the most entertaining episode came from "Google Bonhoeffer," who sees the election returns as a....sexual assault:
That "Droopy" tag we slap on our party needs to go. It's not helping us. Calling us weak and blaming us for these massive losses is counterproductive.
I don't mean to sound rash but did we not get raped last night only to wake up resembling a rape victim who convinces herself that she was at fault and could've/should've done more to prevent the attack?
No. Sometimes when you are attacked the way we were last night, there's little you can do to fend off the rapist. Therefore it's useless to feel so down on yourself in the aftermath.
I want to be clear here.
We did NOT lose because we are weak or scared.
Anyone conjuring up images of Stewart Smalley here? Is this a pseudonym for Al Franken?
