January 14, 2009 - 12:23 ET by Scuba DudeC'mon, it's a no brainer.
Republicans are held to a much higher standard than Democrats. Even the perception of wrong doing calls for the Republican to fall on his sword while the democrat gets a pass.

January 14, 2009 - 12:55 ET by thebutlerdiditThis was truly a no-brainer. Let's see, Geitner, Richardson, Hillary, Blago, Greg Craig, Jefferson, Rengel, Dodd, Frank, etc. Hmmm, they seem to get some waaayy huge passes, well, I guess, Blago got thrown under the cheese wagon, but only because it was necessary. The rest, free pass. Then you have old Grandpa Ted Stevens, beloved by his constituents, but he was treated like he had just committed double murder. They don't have to fight for their policies, or be worried about standards, that's what they have the MEDIA for!!

January 14, 2009 - 12:54 ET by Miss Cheviouswho does the "He" refer to ?
If Obama was the republican referred to in the question of course He would have to pull the nomination after all "everyone knows" Republicans can do no right ....
On the other hand if the "He" refers to Geithner of course the nomination is the absolute dead solid perfect choice because after all "everyone knows" Democrats can do no wrong .... ESPECIALLY He whose judgement is NOT to be QUESTIONED.
Notice?
January 14, 2009 - 13:06 ET by BarkerFor Democrats, it's a distraction; for Republicans, it's a scandal.

And their new story is
January 14, 2009 - 13:33 ET by thebutlerdiditWe are in unprecedented times! It was just an "honest" mistake the fact Geither didn't pay his taxes! We need him, it's more important that we forget these little "hiccups" because everyone knows that only Geithner understands TARP, and how to fix this mess! For Goodness sakes, people, quit DISTRACTING, this is way too important! And Geithner has been cleared by the Obama team, after all. I feel good that he will be in charge of the printing of money, writing and interpreting tax laws, and don't forget be in charge of our Secret Service. What a great idea! And the Republicans will rrroooollll on over. And frankly they probably might as well, they are going to get slammed if they do, slammed if they don't fight this. If they do, then they will be seen as trying to kill the Obama Buzz, and people will say, they aren't being Hope and Change like.

Common mistake? Let's ask the IRS
January 14, 2009 - 13:28 ET by Jack BauerRush Limbaugh has just played a drive-by media Obama Talking Points memo, that what GEITHNER comitted was a "common slash honest mistake."
Okay -- any Republican on the committee with the balls to find out? Can witnesses be called?
If so, how about calling the current operating head of the IRS. Let's ask him, what percentage of self-employed people make this COMMON MISTAKE.
BUT let's also define a "common" mistake first. To be fairly common, I'm thinking that around say, a quarter of all people would have to make it to be "common."
Jack you're looking at it rong
January 14, 2009 - 13:34 ET by botgit's not common as in typical and frequent

January 14, 2009 - 14:01 ET by cocodrieI've been self-employed since 1969. The IRS is on us like gravy on rice. This excuse is typical left-wing extremist %*#+@&#.

January 14, 2009 - 17:27 ET by JillCWSince I hit the post button and it got stuck, I'll add this:
A friend in CT was in the silver recovery business several years ago. He miscalculated income and was stuck with an IRS bill for four years. After they overbilled him and he overpaid, it took five years for them to get their money back. Oddly, CT lost all the paperwork several times before they finally reimbursed the overpayment.

Liberals Don't Live the Laws . . .
January 14, 2009 - 17:30 ET by JillCWThey just enact them to exploit and depress "we the people." Sounds like "all we like sheep have gone astray, we have gone each to his own way. . ." meaning, do what you want as long as it feels good. Libs avoid the same taxes they impose on us . . . perhaps, Repubs do the same.

You are so right!
January 14, 2009 - 15:09 ET by JillCWI had the same experiences as a self-employed person. Sheesh, the tax paperwork was outrageous. Then I taught at a local community college with a semester-by-semester contract and still got stuck with a W-2 instead of a 1099. One year, I didn't take enough out and had fewer deductions. My tax bill was a paltry $250.00 and they wrote to me asap and demanded their money. I guess when you're one of the "GLOBAL" elite, you can do whatever you want.

Hi Blonde
January 14, 2009 - 17:35 ET by sherylsimsYEP! That was me back in the old days before I sent my drunken computer to rehab. Now I am back and ready to post all sorts of witty and clever stuff. But first I have to think of something witty and worth saying. But I am back so all y'all double posters (triple posters) can TRY to beat my 32 posts, but I will be watching.
Hi sheryl
January 14, 2009 - 17:48 ET by BlondeWell, I was trying to be nice and not mention you specifically by name....you outed yourself there, gf!
I had a triple today...first in eons!

January 14, 2009 - 17:54 ET by sherylsimsI liked the pics of Michelle's dress. I especially liked the one made of rubbers. I am trying to think of someone for whom it might be more appropriate...
Also, I did notice the triple post and knew you were thinking of me.
I had several days "off" from here and while I am happy to be back, I just find myself shaking my head and wondering how much more we can take. It is easy to identify the problems (With the new president, and the unbalanced media coverage, etc) but much harder to figure out the solutions.

You aren't alone regarding the IRS/self-employment.
Would have been so nice to be able to say ..."heck, just a little hiccup"...took years to get things straightened out.
Infuriating when you have someone like Judd Gregg "R" N.H. saying he is what we need now like he did yesterday on Cavuto...my gawd the guy is part of the problem, has been...
All of this is simply unbelievable anymore.
I just shake my head...whatever will be, will be.
Until the repub party wakes up, grows a spine, things will stay the same.

Democrats are held to NO ethical standards.
Come on Obama could be caught red handed smoking crack, (Marion Barry anyone) pimping out his family,(like Hillary & Chelsea), also getting his pipe polished (we all know like you know who), stealing gold from fort Knox (Sandy Berger), while holding a Roman style orgy in the White House basement (Barney Frank), while breaking bread with the devil himself (like Jimmy Carter) and this would be all an innocent oversight.
I think that Joe the Plumber got screwed!
January 14, 2009 - 13:43 ET by thebutlerdiditHe only owed $1,400 on a tax lein, and he was branded a criminal. And he was not even running for anything, especially not trying to run our Nat'l Treasury.

January 14, 2009 - 15:08 ET by DelsaRepublicans have lost the will to FIGHT for almost any one or anything.
They are rolling over for Obama's tax evader who would be our next cheif Tax Collector.
I feel like I am living in a parallel universe.
Republicans in the House and Senate are just seemingly rolling over and allowing a Socialist takeover.
Is this true?
