Is right here.

Alan is Annoying

Alan was annoying and his examples often off point. He would often argue using  a flawed analogy, such as comparing Obama's mentor Reverend Wright to a fiery preacher McCain might have encountered.

Bob Bechel or Kirstan Powers can fill the role with more humor and intelligence.   He played the Washington Generals to Hannity's Globe Trotters.

I agree that Comes was very annoying

I won't miss him a bit.  I don't watch the show very often anyway but I hope Kirstan Powers doesn't replace him.  I think she is a little more level headed but may be pressured to always take the contrary opinion no matter what.  I think Bechel is more suited for that - he's a partisan hack.

I won't miss him a

I won't miss him a bit.

There was no "I'll give you the last word" with Colmes.  He had an infuriating habit of getting in a last lick just as the segment ended and the guest was cut off, so that he got the last word in, and couldn't be challenged.

I agree MB - plus Colmes didn't really ask questions

he gave diatribes.  He'd ask like 10 or more questions in a row that were really statements and then the person would have a minute or less to respond

mother

I cannot imagine who would miss colmes...I am very annoyed when I find him on the radio as I head home...

Beckel???

If Beckel is Colmes replacement, I for one, will NOT be watching at all.  Colmes was bad enough, Beckel is a true Left-Hole!

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

Alan is very annoying. He

Alan is very annoying. He is rude as well. He talks over people as soon as he asks a question. I have said "shut up Alan" more than I would care to count.

"Forget change, I want improvement!"

Right you are

This guy was one of the most annoying characters on TV. Apearantly his parents neglected to teach him any manners at all as his idea of debate is to talk over someone.

His leaving could make Hannity even more watched.

Colmes

Colmes is the quintessential "liberal" : immature, ignorant, vindictive, and illogical. "Reason" has no meaning for them. "Feelings" rule everything. Arguing with Colmes is about as productive as arguing with a lunatic. "Liberalism" is a disease and Colmes, the former stand-up comic, caught it long ago. There's a chemical imbalance in the "brains" of all "liberals".

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Doofus

That is the word I would use to describe Alan Colmes.  I never thought that his arguments were even close.  I listened to him long time ago on the radio and with some libertarian guy whose name I can't remember.  Hannity is well rid of him although Bob Bechel is a classic liberal when it comes to trying to make a point i.e. he can't.  He uses snide remarks to set up straw men to knock down.  Ever heard him argue with Ann Coulter?  She won't put up with his straw man approach and makes him look like a fool.

That said, I don't listen to or watch Sean Hannity either.  Don't get me wrong, he's one of the good guys but he appeals to a portion of the non-thinking conservative public if you ask me.  On his radio show he always lets the hanging softballs go un-swung at.  He appeals to the populist in the conservative movement and seems to be more interested in promoting his tours than actuallty discussing important things and often completely misses the point.  He is good at being the interviewer though and I used to listen just for that part of his show.

Just my opinion.

Since government is coercion, politics is largely the exercise of deception regarding the intended use of coercion - George Orwell

Um, did I miss something?

Is vulture boy leaving or something, if so how did I miss that?"

Hannity announced it on his

Hannity announced it on his radio program this afternoon and I the announcement followed on H&C (though I am ashamed to admit I don't know when that is on.)  I just hope they do come up with Hannity's equal on the left to replace Colmes.  The more reasoned arguments presenting both sides without character attacks, the better for all of us.

Alan Colmes

As much as Colmes usually pisses me off, and my wife can't stand him, the right/left thing is at the core of what makes the show work. And from the Hannity and Colmes comes a host of guests and analysts on both the right and left, which makes the show compelling.

Also Colmes doesn't support the fairness doctrine, an issue that may be coming up. And their friendly partisan barbs are actually fun--they get along in the end.

50% Solution

The departure of Alan Colmes still leaves Hannity & Colmes with one shrill, whiny, humorless ideologue.  I hope Fox will use this opportunity to re-tune this slot by bringing in a couple of true heavyweights.

Be they both on the right, or one from both ends of the spectrum, let them be clever, thoughtful, intelligent and able to articulate philosphy beyond talking points and catch-all phrases.

Please Fox, make this hour fun.

Miss Colmes? Nah

Maybe now a conservative guest can complete a sentence without being interrupted. We shall see.

My choice for his replacement: Cindy Sheehan

Oh Geesh!

Hannity will need all gaskets checked and headbolts tightened!

Don't let the door hit you on the way out

He was never good at his job.  Many times he was nasty in his reponses.

He had a way of asking a question, then when the person gave a logical answer, Colmes would leap to a wild conclusion.

Recently he was discussing taxes with a guest (was it Michael Steele, I can't remember).  The guest said that taxes needed to be lowered and Colmes said "So you don't believe in paying any taxes?"  It was obvious the guest never said people should pay zero tax.  Alan was just throwing crap against the wall to see what would stick.

Wow, wow and wow...I am

Wow, wow and wow...

I am shocked here...I have watched Fox from day one, I have screamed at Colmes over the years from my living room or kitchen...not because of our differences politically, but because he constantly interrupts, talks over, doesn't let anyone answer a full question before he starts with some new blather or another leftist question/statement, he veers off of the topic by doing the typical lib spin to point to conservatives did this too way back when using somebody from ten twenty years ago if he can't find a recent example from a repub critter...in other words he absolutely drives me nuts...

I also know he is doing his job, what he is paid to do, sometimes I Just block him out or laugh, to be honest, I don't know how I am going to feel, that is why I picked undecided...maybe we should be careful what we wish for here, you just never know who is going to be the replacement , it there is going to be one.

...but I know one thing, I know exactly how my husband is going to feel....lol.

Matthew, thanks for this info, I haven't had time today to read anything on other sites I visit usually before coming here, so this is news to me.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

H&C

I might watch this show once a month at best.  Colmes seemed to me more of a token liberal punching bag rather than a debater.  I don't know if he just not a strong enough personality to hold up against the more blustery Sean or if that was just his nature in general.  One way or the other he often came across as snively.  So, no I wouldnt miss him. Hannity also suffers from his own debatus interruptus, which is exasperating.

If they were to re-formulate I wouldn't want to eliminate the ideal of having both sides - I would hope it would just be with more respectful debate and less interruption.

Those who listen to liberals deserve to be lied to

I've never understood why anyone would put up with listening to a liberal.  In their worldview, anything goes, which means they have no problem lying to you if they think it is expedient.

Calling Rosie

I want to see the Hannity v. Rosie smackdown

I don't like one hit KO's.

I don't like one hit KO's. As amazing as such a fight would be to watch in slow motion, it just isn't entertaining to watch a professional boxer fight against your local geek squad employee.

This is the best news I've

This is the best news I've gotten all week. I could not stand watching him on this show. He constantly interrupted the guests and NEVER let them complete a sentence.  He was AWFUL.  I'm glad he's going...don't let the door kick you in the A$$, Alan.

I'm sure he's a nice enough guy and all, but as a host, he's hideous.

A Mean Center

I am so glad this guy will be gone soon.

When it was his turn to be on camera, I grabbed the remote.

But my biggest objection to Alan was that he was meanspirited. I suspect that through his life, he met now and then with some shabby treatment. So, IMO, he became passive aggressive when dealing with people.

I'd like to say I admire his courage...

for taking the drubbing he has over the years, but courage is not often found in liberals. Must be something else.

     The point counter

The point counter point idea is always a good one. Hannity is equally flawed with his mantra that he beats to death. I like him, but after you've heard his schitck 1,000 times it's like a bad commercial.

Colmes use to be a good banana, but in the last year, he has gotten real testy. Maybe it is his time to move on. Beckel reminds me of about one million fat guys I have seen in my past drinking life. Three beers, and you can hear him one block before you hit the swinging doors.

How about Michell Malkin vs Geraldo Riveria 5 nites a week? That would be fun! After one week of that, Geraldo would be welcoming the skin heads again, if he was still standing.

The Onion a few years ago

The Onion a few years ago had a headline that said "Alan Colmes loses arguement with nephew."   Satire but still with a grain of truth.

Won't miss it

I haven't had cable for two years.  I don't miss it.  I don't miss him.

I guess the only people who call Fox News 'conservative' are the people who don't watch it.

Colmes was easy to tune out or...

ignore except when he raised his left eyebrow.  His best feature was his acting as a punching bag or pinata for Hannity.  Juan Williams is boring and talks too much, so let's hope he doesn't get the gig.  Kirsten Powers looks nice but makes too much sense to be a Colmes replacement.  I'm in favor of Hannnity having his own show.  Don't even consider Beckel or that gray haired guy who looks like a washed out version of the Florida governor, please.  Jim Webster

Good riddance...

Goodbye Alan Colmes...From the beginning, I have never liked him.

It is very important to present both sides of the issues...People need to be aware of both sides in order to make an intelligent, informed decision about what they believe. But Alan Colmes has always been nothing more that just a shill for the left. He doesn't offer any constructive input to the discussion...Just liberal, leftist talking points. He drives me nuts, and I won't miss him.

It'll be interesting to see who replaces him...But whoever it will be, they're sure to be an improvement over Colmes.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

Alan Colmes

For some reason many managers in the media are in love with drama.  The rubes that managed radio stations for fifty years always required talk show hosts either talk calls from people who were not serious but had conflicting opinions or have studio guests or have a co-host that they could conflict with.  The station managers adopted many less successful format devices to manufacture dramatic tension. Alan  Colms was always just a suit's way to manufacture dramatic tension and did not make a reasonable contribution to the show.

That should end with Rush Limbaugh with no co-host, no studio guests and nearly all serious ditto head callers agreeing with him and mostly editorial commentary explaining the context of the day’s events.  The funny thing is that his format predates the other formats.  Will Rogers used to say that the comedy is already written he just read it out of the newspapers.  How did that get lost from 1935 when Rogers died until Limbaugh adopted it in the 1980's?

Happy Thanskgiving to

Happy Thanskgiving to All!!!!

Well,

I checked don't watch it but one reason I don't watch it is Colmes is a dofus so I could have checked 2 blocks.

Another reason is Hannity is always hawking some book or event. He and Beck are a non stop commercial for themselves.

I am not allowed to watch H & C

The show is complete chaos the whole time. Both of them annoy the hell out of me but Alan makes me want to hit something. He is so stupid about half the time he isn't rational, very observant or even well informed. He often takes positions or brings up stuff that has already been refuted or proven to be wrong. Doesn't stop him! Plus I just don't like the guy's looks. Hate to say that but if I were across from him they would probably be pulling me off him cause I would want to stomp a mud hole in his *** about 4 nights a week. I always think of the cartoon Heckel and Jeckel when I watched H & C. Good riddance. Hope he gets a job where I don't have to hear or look at him. Ever! I could stand to watch Kirstin Powers in his slot. She seems to have toned it down some, especially when she saw how the MSM was treating Palin. I believe she can be more balanced. Alan is and was a shrill, nattering magpie of a weenie. His limp wristed style of baiting the guests used to get right up the crack of my..................

Hey Doug...How do you really feel??

Seriously though, I'm with you...

Kirsten Powers would be an acceptable replacement for Colmes...At least she can be reasonable, contributes intelligently to the discourse, and is not nearly soooo annoying!!! And like you, I have never liked the way Colmes looks. I know that sounds shallow, but there is just something about him...He just grates on me.

Anyway...I don't really care why Colmes is going...Just as long as he's going.

Excellent!

Something told me DO NOT miss going to church this past Sunday - and it actually paid off bigtime!!!

I've got it!

Why don't they replace Colmes with Chris Matthews?  Hannity could ask questions of the guests, then Chris could spout his Obama worship during commercials.  (snicker)

Miss Colmes??? I thought so!!!!

I'm not going to miss Alan's rabid case

of liberalus interruptus of the conservative or even moderate H&C guest(s) on cue when he's out of LibRat talking points, and is about to get his ass handed to him on the facts, one bit. Not one bit.

Sean's broken-record and manic spells on whatever issue I can deal with, but two and three talking heads at a time..

Shaun vs. Alan

As a mostly lifelong conservative, I must admit I find Alan Colmes' views  almost always distasteful. But he is a cerebral host who rarely if ever attacks a guest personally. So I give him credit for advancing the interesting and enlightening aspects of the show, even if his favorite debate tactic (reductio ad absurdum) gets boring pretty quickly these days. Contrast this with the whiny, off-putting style of Shaun Hannity and you can get an idea why I turn off Hannity and Colmes ever more frequently. Shaun can be interesting and well-worth watching, as on his Hannity's America where he has a stimulating, but not provoking personna. His viewpoint, that is, his conservative message, is always appropos and if not the last word in conservative analysis, it is nevertheless well worth a listen. But his debate style is insufferable. If he does not interrupt his guests more than the inimitable Chris Mathews, who can be the pentultimate obnoxious host, then Shaun is a close, on-his-butt second. Shaun never misses an opportunity to step on his opponent's words. Never mind that the audience might be curious as to why a particular lefty seems smitten with an outrageous opinion, Shaun will make sure the listener never finds out. And if the lefty's mouthings are especially egregious (note: this could mean that the lib has scored a point) then be sure that Shaun will attack the miscreant personally, or just change the subject by bringing up some other more easily assailed failing. Whereas Alan is a more intellectually honest debater, Shaun is a cheap trick artist, a bomb-thrower and a spectacle-maker. It will be fascinating to see who Fox brings in to replace Colmes. I would love to see another strong woman cut out of the Fox gorgeous-babe-who-is-a-lawyer mold. Someone who is just as strong intellectually as Alan, but quite frankly easier on the eyes. But it cannot be another bomb-thrower or the show will -- blow up (hah! bomb-thrower . . . blow up. Too obvious, right?). Well, you get the point, anyway. I don't listen to or watch too many liberals. Can't stand their cant. They haven't had a new idea since Roosevelt's brain trust. And they are often cut out of holier-than-thou cloth. Clearly someone like Rachel Maddow or Adrianna Huffington would be just too much. But I have seen one or two on MSNBC and CNN while surfing during a commercial, nameless to me unfortunately, who I think could fit in Alan's chair nicely. There is a dark-haired, dark-skinned, serious young woman, a Democrat strategist, I think, who shows up on MSNBS as a guest panelist, who might be worth a shot. Anyone know who she is?

Au Contraire.. I find your

Au Contraire.. I find your description of Hannity to fit the MO of Colmes exactly.

Hannity does step on guests, usually when they have made an interesting point but he is an equal opportunity stepper, and does the same to conservatives and leftists.

Colmes talks over (and does not listen to) conservatives. He usually leaves leftists to make their boring and asinine points.

Colmes has also perfected an extremely snide trick of muttering something insulting, or just plain mendacious, that is picked up on his mic, but which is inaudible to the conservative guest.

But can Laura replace BOR                       PLEASE

Had a great face for radio...

...as the old joke goes. I don't mean to be cruel. I just want to parlay into my observation that Colmes was always a wonderful radio personality who somehow always seemed painfully boxed into the role of dweeby liberal. When I used to catch Colmes' late night radio show on the now defunct WEVD in New York the differences were stark. Colmes, a former comic, was loose and hip and comfortable sparring with a variety of guest and callers. But on the tube Colmes became a laughable punching clown compared to Sean Hannity's killer trial lawyer schtick. Recurring guests such as Ann Coulter and Dick Morris would routinely wipe the floor up with Colmes who was armed with only silly puns and "facts" quickly ripped from the DNC fax machine. Colmes' nose was bloodied so much that even liberals turned on him.

Obviously, Sean Hannity was the clear star of "Hannity and Colmes" and I gather I'm not alone in feeling that Hannity was only sharing the spotlight with his partner out of sheer friendship. Also, to be frank, Colmes at times appeared distressingly thin and weakened next to Hannity's "helmet-haired" good looks. A visual picture that does not bode well in trying to score left wing talking points.

Nonetheless, I wish Alan Colmes well. I sincerely hopes he finds a venue that allows the Alan Colmes of radio to spread its wings.

Hey tc...

I happened to catch Colmes radio show he has now, or had, recently, don't know if he still does or not, this was about more than six months or so ago now, he wasn't anything like he is on television, not so rude and over-talking everyone blah blah blah...not on the two shows I heard anyway...I actually listened to it all.

...my other half didn't believe me.

He did his job, earned his pay...I wish him no ill will either, hope he does fine in fact.

As a conservative I usually disagreed with Combs. But I always  respected the civility Combs dispayed on Hannity & Combs.

I'd like to see someone

I'd like to see someone else on there like Dick Morris and make the show into 5 day a week Lib bashing party...forget this 'fair and balanced' junk-nobody else is doing it in the MSM.

Be that as it may, I actually like Alan Colmes on some level, even though he's an obnoxious Liberal.

woot!

I'm with you, this "Fair and Balanced" on one channel and raving libtardishness on all the others sux.

Colmes was somewhat

Colmes was somewhat tolerable about four or five years ago.  He has gradually become nothing but a walking talking point for the left.  (In some ways this criticism applies to Hannity as well, but Colmes is far worse.)  Colmes makes little sense and seems to press minute issues that he thinks he can win even as he is losing the overall debate.  In a way he seemed a little lost on the show, playing second-fiddle to Hannity, who has a stronger personality.  In recent years, I've pretty much stopped watching the show altogether.  Most of the time, it's just a bunch of people screaming back and forth, not listening to each other.  It gets irritating real quick.

Does this mean Hannity is

Does this mean Hannity is getting a Colmes Over?

If you can meet with triumph and disaster

I think Colmes is weaker

I think Colmes is a little weaker than your average news lib. I've seen him get smacked down by Hannity and guests, even liberal guests, more often than most. And like most libs, he never addresses the issue at hand, and simply tries to discredit those he disagrees with. I think we will see the same pattern from whoever he is replaced with. Like Colmes, they won't be able to debate with facts, only tactics.

Colmes

I was watching the show the night Colmes' wife came on talking about her new book.  She's the sister of one of the female commentators on Fox, and attractive as well.  I couldn't help thinking howinhell does she wake up to that face everyday?  Ugh.. I won't miss him.
