Some new shows might not
February 12, 2008 - 10:45 ET by shawn228Some new shows might not survive ie Chuck. I doubt 24 will come back until January and one of my favorite shows.
Some Sophmore shows likeFriday Night Lights might not come back. Shows like Heroes will have a hard time getting their audience back.
Shows like Greys Anatomy and CSI will do just fine.

Heros has a cult type
February 12, 2008 - 10:58 ET by Dan The Man 2Heros has a cult type following similar to Baby 5 except a wider audiance. It will survive as long as the plots are not too goofy and they can round up the cast.
Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.
Heroes will be fine, but
February 12, 2008 - 11:05 ET by balboaHeroes will be fine, but you're right in that some shows like Friday Night Lights might not make it. Ausiello at tvguide.com had a great list of shows that were going to have new episodes before summer, and what shows just might not make it back at all.

Programming comes and goes
February 12, 2008 - 11:01 ET by Dan The Man 2Programming comes and goes and the sheep still watch it. There is no lasting damage and the strike had little effect, except that it was more pleasant. Disclaimer, i do not watch much television except for Sci-Fi and have turned into a news junkie. The only regular programming I get through other people watching the tube.
Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.
Hopefully wasn't a choice.
February 12, 2008 - 11:02 ET by ConservativeRexHopefully wasn't a choice. I would like to see Hollywood go belly up. Maybe they'll start offering up anything but what they've been offering.
the writing is doing
February 12, 2008 - 12:18 ET by TruthMongerthe writing is doing considerably more damage then any strike, IMHO - left-wing fascist political propaganda on everything from ER to Sesame Street...
I fully support their continued self-destruction
Meh.
February 12, 2008 - 11:02 ET by landsharkIt's actually kind of nice to pick up a book after dinner and enjoy the quiet of the house.
I love TV
February 12, 2008 - 11:07 ET by shawn228I used to not have time to watch all my shows. My DVR was a gift from the Gods. I love in no particular order.
Ghost Whisperer
Prison Break,
24
Friday Night Lights
Lost
Smallville,
Greys Anatomy
Heroes
SNL
I don't see what is wrong with the quality of tv shows. My only beef is I have not seen a good comedy since Friends and Seinfeld.

You should stick with 30 Rock and the Office. Great comedies.

February 12, 2008 - 11:15 ET by shawn228I watch Ghost Whisperer for a couple of reasons ;-) Lol Nah, I am pretty big Sci Fi fan, and I love shows like Buffy, Angel, Justice League.
GW is actually a very well written show. What else is on Friday Night? I used to actually go out once in a while. Now all I have is NB and TV.

I like some scifi, like Buffy, which was constantly robbed for not being nominated for any Emmys.

Network TV is garbage
February 12, 2008 - 11:39 ET by OldSailor88My wife and I watch very few network TV shows any more. We haven't found any that are worth our time. We watch House regularly and the first 4 weeks of American Idol so we can make fun of all the people who suck. After that, we're on History, Discovery, A&E and of course Ghost Hunters on Sci Fi. I grew up with real TV shows like All in the Family and M*A*S*H. Shows nowdays pale in comparison. I can also proudly say that I never watched a full episode of Seinfeld or Friends. They were pretty much crap too.
Stultus est sicut stultus facit
Sounds like our house!
February 12, 2008 - 12:24 ET by Cape Conservativesooooooooooo, where are these millions of viewers these shows supposedly attract? It is frightening to me to realize how many people just sit and stare at the 'boob tube' and end up mindless, unable-to-think-for-themselves, 'boobs'!!!!!
And guess what, CC?
February 12, 2008 - 12:54 ET by OldSailor88My 4 year old isn't sick with commercialism either. Noggin is the best network EVER for children. No commercials, and all fun and learning. Don't think I cloister her though. We watch Bugs Bunny and the gang on DVD. New network cartoons stink too.

I wasn't arguing anything except that the signs had a similar look and feel to the same old Socialist Worker, International ANSWER, and other lefty mob signs we see all the time
Not very creative for creative people. Why is that?
Draw your own conclusion. I like the Stalinist one, myself
And I have NO PROBLEM with writer's getting their fair share of the vast amounts of money made by media corporations. In fact, I welcome it.

February 12, 2008 - 12:46 ET by balboaNot very creative for creative people. Why is that?
I'm sure it's because they secretly long for the oppressive rule of someone like Stalin...
I remember Tina Fey saying in an interview once how she longed for the days of tyranny that Russians got to enjoy. Stephen Colbert has often spoken of his undying love of oppression.
Hadn't really noticed...
February 12, 2008 - 11:47 ET by desertdwellerI guess I'm one of those demographics who hasn't noticed a Hollywood writer's strike. Not much has interested me from Hollywood for about 10 years -- it's the wasteland of entertainment.
Doubtful
February 12, 2008 - 12:08 ET by mattmIt will probably have little effect. They'll just go back to the assembly line and crank out the same old crap. I don't know the specifics of the agreement but without a merit system in place (which unions hate), there won't be much improvement.
They should de-unionized. Then we might get better shows, and good writers would get paid for being good writers, and bad writers would be looking for another line of work.
AMEN!
February 12, 2008 - 12:20 ET by Cape ConservativeIt is high time for unions to depart - sure they were needed when sweatshops were around, but now all they are good for is to keep the pockets of their leaders filled with 'coin' and keep those with no talents employed. That goes for all - from town clerks to teachers and police/fire departments...the employer should always have a right to expect personal accountability from its employees. Boston is currently hot about drug testing for firefighters after a couple were found under the influence after dying in a recent fire. Welllllllllllllll - if I was a firefighter I'd WELCOME drug testing to protect myself - I wouldn't want to be counting on a co-worker and end up injured or dead because they were under the influence of drugs or alcohol!
I checked DEFINITELY, but I
February 12, 2008 - 12:12 ET by Cape Conservativemust admit that as I type this, I am full of "hope" (as BHO is inclined to say every chance he opens his mouth ;-)
The loss of what comes out of these people's minds is no big deal...in our home, we do NOT watch the trash they have put out in an all-out effort to brainwash our young people with their off-the-wall ideologies. I, for one, am sick to death of men, particularly white men, being depicted over and over again as mindless. Such disrespect is understandable only when you realize the shows spring forth from the mouths and minds of such creeps as I've seen walking the picket lines! They have an agenda and will stop at nothing until "their way" of looking at the world is everyone's way. Sorry to disappoint you, fellows, but it AIN'T working at this house!
PS and I hope they continue just a while longer so we will have one year of NO opportunities for the liberal Hollywood actors (who just love to award each other's greatness) to spew their hatred for our country on stage at the various award ceremonies. John Wayne, Bob Hope how we miss you!!!!!!!!!

How about...who cares?
February 12, 2008 - 15:46 ET by thefirststrikeHow about...who cares? There are far more important and far more interesting topics...this whole thing is merely trivial in my humble opinion.
People in this country spend way too much time and effort worrying and thinking about what Hollywood, musicians and their favorite sports players and teams are saying and doing, and not enough time worrying about their elected leaders and the government, and the state of their country and their democracy.
I always say that if we as a nation would take just 10% of the energy we spend on sports or any other of our many trivial and inane pursuits and spend it on politics...watching and writing letters and keeping our elected officials in line...we wouldn't have one single corrupt politician in Washington DC.
That's MY 2 cents worth on the writer's strike.
How about...who cares?

i wanted to see the strike last years
February 13, 2008 - 10:12 ET by lunaticcringeradioi know there are a lot of small businesses that suffer, but hey this is how union mobs work the system. i just can't squirt a tear for the situation. this is a machine that for the most part has established a deep root of ignorance in the american pblic and then pushes it's propoganda against everything conservative in america. i can't really feel bad when i see the disinformation wing of liberal socialism stumble. i would have prefered to see the strike last a year or two and cause the american public to get off their asses and start to be productive after not being force fedanti conservative liberal dogma in every 30 min sitcom or hour long drama.
you do realize that there are people that think the daily show is authentic news and i was happy to hear that show was hurt by the writers strike.
i would go father than voting who cares, i would vote for a longer strike please. because i haven't watched a network tv show in over 5 to 7 years i could care less about network tv. it just got to the point that everything on there was disgustingly boring or idiotic. 24 uuuuuggggggh i'd have rather spent a full 24 hours with a power drill next to my head than to see one hour of that aweful show. lost, please i wish i was, gilligan island was more entertaining. i really did try and view once and that stuff was junk. every crime drama is the same regergitated csi or law & order with a liberal spin on it. so as for hollywood network tv, they lost me as a viewer years ago.

Why Do We Care?
February 13, 2008 - 16:25 ET by PSPCplWhy do we care how much damage the strike did to Hollyweird and the televsision industry? It's like Groucho Marx said, "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book."
