Why shouldn't he?
February 2, 2009 - 08:47 ET by Prester JohnHe said he was sorry and that he was embarassed.
Isn't that enough? I mean, really, is being late on paying $140,000 to the IRS really that big a deal?
Now if he had a tax lien on him like Joe the Plumber did, then there would be reason for concern.
It's always just "an honest mistake".
February 2, 2009 - 08:48 ET by superconA Democrat could rob a liquor store and stillget confirmed. It never matters how bad they shame themselves. As long as they only have to seek the approval of their own then they're good to go.They're laughing right in our faces.
Because with a name like Obama... you know it has to be good.
Were you talking about...
February 2, 2009 - 09:24 ET by Willis_Leon_JohnsonTom Daschle or teddy kennedy at Chappaquidick?
Or Clinton concerning his income taxes.
February 2, 2009 - 15:33 ET by needleHe and his wife, both Yale trained lawyers, deducted their entire mortgage payments – that is, interest and principle – as interest for a few years until they got their hands slapped; then they refused do disclose their fraudulent tax returns until after the 1992 election.
“It was an honest ‘mistake’”
Gosh, I thought both Hill and Bill are supposed to be super smart – almost as smart as the big Zero. This is either a lot dumber than your average Joe Six Pack, or… typical of your standard crooked lying Democrat (please excuse the redundancies).

Dashle Regrets Tax "Errors"
He regrets it!! He's sorry!! Show a little compassion!!
This shouldn't stop him from being promoted!!
They will give him a minore tongue-lashing on C-Span, so they can be seen not to "condone" his actions, but in the end they will condone..oops!....confirm him.
Stimulus idea
February 2, 2009 - 11:12 ET by Sergeant ROCKI think that once we have these two tax cheats in office, it would justify adding to the 'stimulus' bill a provision where we mere peasants can either not pay taxes here and there, take bogus exemptions, etc. and otherwise get away with it without a penalty.
Call it the 'Geithner/Daschle Tax Act'?

I'm sorry, I have a great deal of faith in our free market system, but this kind of thing borders on the ridiculous.
Saddly, the effort to make this guy out to be something other than the lying, cheating chisler he is is going to hinder the revelation that he is not especially qualified for the job and that his ideas for reform are shortsighted.

Or put all his bribe money in the freezer and not be punished -- except by voters during the next election. Unfortunately, Daschle isn't subject to voter's fury. Obama is, though -- IF the MSM would simply report the truth, and resort to their 24/7 onslaught as they do towards Republicans -- like Joe the Plumber.

Don't worry about
February 2, 2009 - 09:01 ET by Hunter12Don't worry about Daschle. That new head of the IRS, President Obama's Treasury Sec, is a real bulldog when it comes to tax cheats. He'll nail Tom.
What's that? He's a tax cheat too!
One thing can be said for the President's cabinet picks. It's generating tax revenue, as these guys who would otherwise not pay their taxes, have to pony up to get their place at the trough.

February 2, 2009 - 11:27 ET by Hunter12We have to look at this from a positive perspective. With just two cabinet picks, President Obama has generated an additional $200K in tax revenue.

It's Getting Routine!!!
February 2, 2009 - 08:56 ET by flyingmonkeyYes, it's time to move on. Confirm Daschle so the Affirmative Action Hero can get down to the IRS building and reach into the pile of undeclared 1099's and pick his next cabinet secretary nominee.
Tax cheats are the way to go

What bothers me and has
February 2, 2009 - 09:01 ET by Ruths husband BenWhat bothers me and has bothered me for since he began running for Prez is that Obama continues to surround himself with corrupt or questionable people. This should alarm even the NB trolls. Eventually, the MSM will start reporting this.......but in the mean time (while we wait for hell to freeze over), it is good that the alternative media (i.e., the internet) is a venue where these things can get exposed.

I guess it was RINO vs ex RINO, me I'd take the ex RINO any day, so we can put some real conservatives up at some point.

February 2, 2009 - 09:51 ET by maggieqpublicAny Senator who votes ‘no’ on Daschle is inviting a closer look at his or her own financial situation. Whether it’s cheating on taxes or acting on a questionable financial deal…. there may be more than a few nervous Senators.

February 2, 2009 - 10:38 ET by dscottOh come on, what's the problem? If Geithner, a tax cheater can be confirmed to run the Treasury, then Attilia the Hun can be confirmed to run HHS. So Daschle cheated on his taxes, so he has a conflict of interest because he earned $220k on speaking fees to health care interests and earned $2.1 mil consulting with a law firm representing health care interests? Big hairy deal! <sarcasm>
I mean come on, Obama chose the person whom he believes will best carry out his agenda. Why should the Senate deny Obama the chance to choose his own man? Maybe he could find someone worse? That's it, the Senate needs to confirm Daschle immediately otherwise Obama will pick someone worse, wasn't that the excuse given for Geithner?
One wonders what Obama has in mind for Surgeon General??? A former NARAL or Planned Parenthood leader???
Birds of a feather do flock together, Obama picks these people for a reason, one that only a corrupt Chicago politican can appreciate. He certainly isn't oblivious to their background, they all have been vetted by HIS people with HIS criteria.

February 2, 2009 - 11:38 ET by Hunter12I'm waiting for Ayers to come up for some appointment. The wash cycle on his past continues. He went out to speak at some Left Coast college and, although the alumni were up in arms about it, was allowed to spew his brand of free speech to gullible students (Kids, his girlfriend died in a bomb-making accident. That wasn't Drano and tin-foil she was missing with.). Look for this school to get a nice infusion of cash from the federal government for aiding the effort.

What is a Liberal
February 2, 2009 - 12:30 ET by Gat New YorkGiven what has happened with Geithner and Daschle you have "the reason Liberals love to raise taxes is because they don't have to pay it themsleves."
Ignorance is bliss
February 2, 2009 - 11:28 ET by iveseenitallWe have the most corrupt government ever assembled in American history. This pack of thugs, led by one of the biggest thugs of all, has the pedal to the metal as we race down the road to doom. And with the help of the MSM, "We the People" are being screwed along the way. But it's our own fault. Apathy reigns supreme. (How about those commercials on the Super Bowl show! Weren't they just great! BTW, did you go to work today?)
P.S. "Poor" Michael Phelps. The Olympic "hero" has been caught using drugs. What a shame. But, he too, has "apologized. Maybe, as HHS boss, Daschle should just legalize drugs. And do you think his pals will legalize not paying taxes? Oh wait, that's only for the "elite" few.

February 2, 2009 - 12:20 ET by yobobbybDemocrat in Name Only. It is clear now why the Demos have no qualms about raising taxes...they don't intend to pay them anyway! As a Dino sore about the new taxes coming our way, why I believe that precedent has been set regarding tax evasion. I'll just plead stupidity (and who won't believe that a Demo is stupid) and throw myself on the mercy of the IRS. Certainly Geitner will take pity on a fellow *sshole, er, Demo...won't he?
If Obama runs out of names
February 2, 2009 - 13:03 ET by celatorIf Obama runs out of names of tax cheats and others of very questionable character to nominate to various offices, he could just go to San Quentin or Rikers Island and find some inmates who would be very comfortable to work in his administration.
Might save a lot of time. They've already been declared guilty and have started serving time, and are most likely already democrats.
A clemency order might do the trick.

Yep, Daschle fits the template for thse creatures that make our laws, take our money while they get away with murder....

February 2, 2009 - 20:53 ET by nwahsThere is no leadership left in the Republican party. He should not be rewarded for being another tax cheat. Failure will be My Success - Barack Obama
February 3, 2009 - 07:21 ET by Retired GeekObama and his Liberal supporters, followers, and worshipers are trapped in a 'Dialectical Conundrum' or the struggle of the opposites.
Liberals struggle at being the victim of paralyzing oppression and the mind numbing guilt of oppressing others with their policies and solutions.
Obama and his cadre of Liberal minions must oppress and make 'Victims', to ensure a steady supply of 'Victims' for their solutions and programs, or those solutions and programs will fail.
The 'Obama Perfect Government' is about rewarding incompetence and punishing success, for the successful can't be successful unless the failures fail, hence Obama must boost the failures back up, to bring Obama equality to America again.
Obama believes 'failure will be the success' of his Administration.
Of course...The Dems
February 3, 2009 - 08:08 ET by MrDebaterhave no ethics...so how can they be unethical? Anyway...doesn't the constitution say that paying your taxes is voluntary? Just like charitable contributions, the dems just choose not to participate...
