May 1, 2008 - 14:55 ET by Scout FinchYes, because the media is helping Obama "move on".
Yes, and easily. Wright is
May 1, 2008 - 22:11 ET by zeoconYes, and easily. Wright is going to take a hint and shut up now (that's what the Obama campaign is hoping, at least). Within a month he'll be out of the news entirely.
Deja vu
May 1, 2008 - 14:59 ET by scamorama(2008) Barack Obama: "I could no more disown him than I could disown my grandmother."
(1972) George McGovern: "I stand behind Thomas Eagleton 1,000 percent."
I would like to say "no",
May 1, 2008 - 15:02 ET by motherbeltI would like to say "no", but I said "yes, almost completely", because the media will see to it. The minute the last word of his press conference was out of his mouth the "time to move on" started.
Obama will probably be able to put "Rev." Wretched behind him.
May 1, 2008 - 15:06 ET by R D HelmBut not Middle America. Obama has essentially no chance now.
Not even against an appallingly weak candidate like McCain.

Not at all. Msm will try
May 1, 2008 - 15:07 ET by bigtimerNot at all.
Msm will try with everything they've got...not gonna' happen though...too many other venues that will keep it smoldering....and one of them may still be Wright himself on down the road, let alone Hillary if she doesn't get nomination.
Too little... too late.

Time will tell if McCan't
May 1, 2008 - 15:19 ET by MOONSTRUCKTime will tell if McCan't will rise to the occasion. My money is on no. The complete audicity of barack to believe that suddenly he is throwing the "reverend" under the bus, and had no idea of the hatred this man spewed week after week. Purely and simply he had to, to stay in the lead. B as in B, S as in S. If the African American community want to know one of the reasons there is racism, they don't have to look no farther than the "reverends". It's disgusting, and hopefully their agenda's will become crystal clear soon. Disgraceful is putting it mildly!
MS, if McCain cannot even muster the courage to beat Obama...
May 1, 2008 - 15:34 ET by R D Helm...then he doesn't deserve to be president, anyway.

No
May 1, 2008 - 15:30 ET by GothampcNo because Wright will keep grabbing the spotlight for the next several months (he must have hired Cindy Sheehan's publicist).
Wright's honorary degree has just been pulled from Northwestern.
As Scooby Doo used to say: "Ruh-roh".

The rightwing media has
May 1, 2008 - 18:23 ET by goldbarThe rightwing media has been feasting on the blood of Rev. Wright for several months and now the blood has all been drunk. Next, in desperation they may try to start a bloodfeast on William Ayres, but that corpse is already dessicated. Who will the zombie right choose for their next victim. My guess is now that she's almost of no longer use to them, their next victim will be....HILLARY CLINTON!!(insert Psycho music here).
I don't think this is the
May 1, 2008 - 18:57 ET by BDI don't think this is the case. I believe we are in the preparatory phase of a battle that will revisit the 1960's.
During this upcoming battle, we will see the chaff of the 1960's attempt to justify their existance and defend their actions in the Weathermen, SDS, Black Panthers, Nation of Islam, etc.
All the while the other side will be showcasing traditional values.
I think it will serve as a foretaste of what will occur in 2028 when the lefties who will run for office will attempt to justify their past participation in Code pink, Daily Kos, Rap songs, etc. They will be fighting against guys who will be able to point to campaign ribbons from Fallujah.
It will not be pretty....
What you've described is the
May 1, 2008 - 19:21 ET by goldbarWhat you've described is the scenario that Charles Manson envisioned and actually tried to instigate with the Tate-LaBianca murders.
No, I do not envision this
May 1, 2008 - 19:45 ET by BDNo, I do not envision this as an armed struggle, rather a cultural struggle.
Things will come to a point that it will NOT be cool to say you protested at the Pentagon with Abbie Hoffman, quite to the contrary.
It will NOT be cool to be a Code Pinko at the USMC recruting station, but rather the poor E-6 who was forced to endure HOURS of their mantra...
It will NOT be cool to be a Graduate Teaching Assistant to Ward Churcill, but rather will be cool for a GTA who is studying Frequency modulation for the Dept of Defense.
Attending a reading of Noam Chomsky will be considered "Dull" and uninteresting for all but the committed leftist. Listening to Pfc. Monica Brown who was just awarded the Silver Star for action in Afghanistan describe what it is like to run an Aid Station in Khost Afghanistan and treat the civilians will be considered worth covering.
See where I am going with this? The Sixties kids are flushing themselves out of society.
Sheesh! Noam Chomsky IS
May 2, 2008 - 02:32 ET by NL207Sheesh! Noam Chomsky IS dull and uninteresting! How interesting was Marx or Lenin? Chomsky is just that philosophy warmed over. The man is a dedicated Communist, a true believer.
I don't know about behind
May 1, 2008 - 19:36 ET by Jack BauerI don't know about behind him, but he sure tried to throw him under the bus. But just like Rasputin, or the monster in the horror move.. Wright ain't gonna die!
McCain may not have the nerve
May 1, 2008 - 20:38 ET by pgrossjrWright should be a terminal problem for Obama. BUT, it is a long way to November and McCain has already shown that he doesnt have the nerve to use all the ammo in his gun. witness the kerfluffle about the NC ad. The media will work to put out of everyones memory, we will have to wait and see if the McCain campaign will bring it back in the general election.
pgjr - if he doesn't
May 1, 2008 - 21:00 ET by Cape ConservativeI am most hopeful that the 527s will! Look at how successful the Swift Boat Veterans were in 2004. They told the TRUTH - nothing was ever proved otherwise. And there is enough TRUTH this time around that no fabrication will be necessary. The only requirements will be the desire to get the TRUTH out to as many as possible.
And I would like to say thank you to Mrs. Daves for having the courage to run the NC ad! I understand the response from the public has been quite good. It looks like we will have to take charge at the local level once again, just as we did with our personal phone calls to Congress during the immigration mess last year! Power to the People!!! (thanks, Laura I ;-)
It's pretty obvious
May 1, 2008 - 22:17 ET by pbthinkerObama just didn't handle the pastor correctly and I have my doubts he actually understands what the problem is. All he understands is his poll numbers are going down and his endorsements are going up. If the pastor comes out again Obama could lock up the nomination before June and the Dems won't have to worry.

May 2, 2008 - 02:25 ET by Prof.ChaosWright is stuck to him like a tick on a hound.
far, far behind
May 2, 2008 - 04:04 ET by AgnosticAs soon as the media sets their focus on Senator McCain then Wright will become a distant memory that will only be mentioned by Conservatives in the reference of "Yea (fill in McCain controversy) but Senator Obama never answered for Wright." It will be true but will still be a weak argument.
